Always a pleasure receiving the Minotaur Sampler. This time around though, none of the samplers appeals to me. Hopefully volume 11 will be more to my liking.

4 out of 5 for me!
Thank you to Minotaur for fun samplers, these are a great way to read the beginning of upcoming books.

I thought most of these had strong starts and I want to put them on my TBR; there was one that had a slower start but I bet it could still be a great story!

    Of note:
Leave No Trace was my favorite of the bunch and I will cry if Minotaur denies me for the NG ARC, lol! But I'll be reading this one whether I have to wait until release.

I’ve never seen something like this so when I saw it for download on Netgalley I got it because I was curious. I haven’t read very many thriller/mystery type books and intought it would be cool to read the start of a couple so I could maybe find something I really wanted to read. I liked the mix of different book types. It gives mostly everyone a chance to find something they might be interested in. As for all of the books individually:

Leave No Trace: I greatly enjoyed this. Plenty of action and intrigue. I really want to know what was behind the main attack in the book and I really want to read more. Will be looking this up to read in the future. 4.25 stars

The Expectant Detectives: While I didn’t dislike this it was my least favorite in the book. I’ve discovered I’m not much of a cozy mystery person. I liked the MC mostly? I don’t like how heavily she was judging the one alt woman while also trying to befriend her. I can see how cozy mystery fans would like this but I don’t think I’ll be continuing. 3 stars

Everyone Who Can Forgive Me is Dead: This is hands down my favorite in the sampling. I loved the MC and I need to know more about her and the tragedy she was involved in. Will 100% be reading this in the near future. 4.5 stars

Off the Air: Once again, I’m not the biggest fan of cozy mystery. I did like this more than the first included and I’m vaguely intrigued by the concept. I mostly like the MC but I hate her rivalry with the other female reporter and how she takes her down for being girly and caring about what she looks like. The awkward Spanish with the Latinx reporter was awkward. I doubt I’ll read more but there is a higher chance here. 3.5 stars

Bless Your Heart: I really liked the prologue to this. It was properly creepy and disturbing. And then it went south for me. Wasn’t that big a fan of the family interaction and the goth kid stereotype annoyed me. I might look this up for see if there is more like the prologue in the book later. 3.5 stars

Overall I did like this. It’s a neat way to find a new read. Do recommend this and would read another like this if I saw it in the future.

Leave No Trace by A. J. Landau
Nothing but pain would paste in our throats and eyes if we experienced the Statue Of Liberty's explosive attack. One induced by terrorists. It would feel to shocking for words. Then, to look and see or hear about all the injuries and deaths. Truly, our national parks are an American blessing. One of the care group and workers is an Angela Pierce, the first and youngest Black woman to hold the job. She is the special agent in charge. She works with the NPS's Investigative Service Branch. If this had really happened we all would find ourselves walking slowly, missing a meal worried and thinking how could it happen. I like the story because it is so present. The pandemic is mentioned. "The Expectant Detectives" They are moving to the Cotswolds from London. Also, there is a new baby arriving. It is their time to catch the Happy bus and smile. Life could not feel better. Best of all, they have a sense of humor. In the country, I think, you can not live without being a laugh a holic. She certainly waited long enough to have her baby. She's thirty one years old. Maybe the twenties is not the perfect time to grow another you. "Everyone Who Can Forgive Me Is Dead" by Jenny Hollander To witness a crime and survive is mind altering. When violent crimes occur at a Journalism school, there are repercussions years later. Sadly, you never know when new information will come out. Then, it is like that awful time is real time all over again. "Off The Air" by Christina Estes The excitement is about a radio host who collapsed inside the KRFK radio station. Reporting is not an easy job. No one wants to step up and speak before the grieving family have been notified. In this instance, everybody thinks it might have been Larry Lemmon who collapsed. A good guy is one of the spreading rumors. "Bless Your Heart" by Lindy Ryan

I always enjoy these samplers - they are a great way to read a long excerpt of upcoming books. There is something for everyone in this sampler - humor, suspense, and mystery.

The two I would most like to read are "Leave No Trace" and "Everyone Who Can Forgive Me is Dead'. The first book is about an attack on the Statue of Liberty. The second one is a mystery about a lethal attack on journalism students, and the one who survived.

We also have Southern housewives who happen to be vampires, extremely pregnant women investigating a mystery, and a prize winning book about a journalist investigating the suspicious death of a talk show host.
