Ice Cream Everywhere: Sweet Stories from Around the World Reviews

What a great way to celebrate diversity with Ice Cream! This joyful book takes readers through different countries and the different variations of the sweet treat from gelato in Italy to kulfi on a stick in India. Bright illustrations and fun facts make this book a wonderful read for libraries, schools, and homes!

This book is so much fun. Everyone will love reading about how countries around the world enjoy ice cream. I never would have thought to press a frozen dessert through a noodle maker to serve ice cream spaghetti in a bowl with whipped cream, strawberry sauce, and white chocolate shavings, but I will now. Surprisingly, that idea originated in Germany. I bet it stemmed from an Italian who moved to Germany. I'd love to see that catch on in the US.

Kids will get excited when they see kids in Italy can have brioche con gelato for breakfast. After reading this book, they might beg to visit Turkey to see the mischievous games sellers play with kids, flipping, twisting, bobbing, and bouncing their stretchy, chewy texture Maraş, Turkish ice cream just out of the reach of little hands.

I love how Lucy wove information usually found in sidebars into her illustrations making the book more interactive. And every illustration in this book is so colorful and dancing with fun. The images pop off the page and are sure to keep young readers wanting to turn the page.

What a great way to show how people may be from different countries and cultures, but we have so much in common, too.

With the more detailed facts and history, teachers could easily use this book in their lesson plans.

I kept thinking about the saying, "You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream," which made me think that kids, parents, and teachers will be screaming to read more books by Judy Campbell-Smith and Lucy Semple.

My family loves gathering with international students and has always enjoyed learning about foods and cultural traditions from around the world.

I love how this new book, Ice Cream Everywhere: Sweet Stories from Around the World, written by Judy Campbell Smith and illustrated by Lucy Semple, will captivate the interest of children as they learn about sweet treats and different world cultures simultaneously.

There were many new kinds of desserts that I had never heard of before (but am eager to try!) that I learned from reading this book. Each spread highlights and describes a sweet treat from a different country and includes a sidebar with more detailed facts and history.

This book contains many connections to culture, geography, and different languages. Also, this book can be used as a launching point to research recipes about these different countries and how to make these sweet treats.

The underlying themes in this book are celebrating diversity and seeing the threads that unite our humanity: joy, new beginnings, sharing, laughter, and hope.

I like how the author gleaned from the expertise of people from diverse cultures to ensure the information about each culture was accurate and authentic. The bright illustrations positively depict families from diverse cultural backgrounds and cross-cultural friendships.

I highly recommend this fun and informative book!

Ice Cream IS everywhere! What a fun romp around the world. I especially loved learning about new varieties and am hungry to try them all. The illustrations are fun and the writing exceptional, "A mischievous Maras seller makes it flip, twist, bob, and bounce just out of Emre’s reach." The back matter is just right to inform a little further and expand the ice cream interest - sweet!
