Tavern of Terror Vol. 8: Short Horror Stories Anthology Reviews

  • Cobwebby Reading Reindeer

The newest collection of tales gently themed around Hannigan's Tavern, that off-the-beaten-track, often overlooked, quiet neighborhood pub, ranges from Scary on to Terrifying (WHY did I read this after Dark?!!). My takeaway theme in this collection is: Implacability. Whether it's human evil, revenge, murderous intent--or something Paranormal or actively Supernatural. ...you can't escape. You can't hide, and most likely you can't run. It's just your Inescapable fate.

I loved pretty much all of this story collection- which is unusual for me. An epic prank, a sleep disorder, bats, a serial killer, horrifying body horror, and, my favorite, a ghost tour. And many more, 12 tales in all. One thing I liked was that the titular tavern, Hannigan’s is used a lot more in this volume. The bartender/manager, Harry, is seen interacting with people (and sometimes things that aren’t exactly people anymore) and becoming somewhat fleshed out. This series keeps on getting better!

Scare Street never disappoints, and the new installment in this series is no exception. I listened to this in one setting (thank you to the ARC team at Scare Street for the audiobook).

If you are looking for the "out of the place" scares, and the tales that range from fantastical to horrific, you found the right series! I could not get enough of these, and look forward to the next book to be released. For you Shane Ryan fans out there - you may want to pay particular attention to one story in particular!

I had no sooner finished reading Volume 7 of this series when along comes Volume 8, and it is every bit as good as its predecessors. Once again Hannegan's Pub is the epicenter of any number of strange goings-on. You'd think there would at least be warnings on social media but unsuspecting victims continue to patronize the joint. All I can say is - let's hope they never stop or else these wonderful stories will stop haunting my dreams.
If the stories weren't already top notch, one of them even features a guest visit from Shane Ryan, every man's hero. I hope I don't need to explain who Shane Ryan is to anyone familiar with Scare Street.
Keep these stories coming ladies and gentlemen. A world of horror aficionados are counting on you.

Definitely one of the better collections.

I will do a full review for every entry once I finish the series.

    Interesting

Several very creepy stories loosely tied together by a special tavern make this an interesting read. Enjoy finding the flavor you most enjoy.
