While World War II has been over for two years, its horrors linger within society, and chance encounters expose the still-festering wounds. Like most Americans, Beatrix Patterson and her husband Thomas Ling are trying to accept the past in order to focus on the future and a family.
Despite her desire for a quiet life, Beatrix must become a pursuer of truth once again when asked to expose suspected war criminals who may have killed thousands, a diabolical scheme to rob Indigenous Americans of their relics, and a person practicing voodoo as a means to murder a respected member of the Santa Barbara religious community.
Who can she trust to speak the truth when everyone involved seems to be hiding something that could ruin their lives?
Each book in the Beatrix Patterson Mysteries is written as a stand-alone. Readers do not need to read every book in the series to follow along.

THOUGHTS:
I love reading historical fiction especially one that has amazing characters - I absolutely love Beatrix Patterson and her husband Thomas Ling, and with a mystery twist, I just devoured this book with sheer delight. I enjoyed how Shaw’s writing drew me in to the story- giving impeccable detail to her well written and well researched story line - love the complex story line set in beautiful Santa Barbara, California.

Eva Shaw, the author of “The Pursuer,” has written a suspenseful and captivating story. This is the third in the Beatrix Patterson series, but it can be read alone. The genres for this book are Mystery, Suspense, Fiction, and Historical Fiction. The timeline for this story is set two years after the ending of World War Two but goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events. The author vividly describes the scenery and her dramatic characters. The characters are described as complex, complicated, unique, and quirky. Eva Shaw shows us betrayals, deceit, suspicious activity, false representations of identity, mysteries, thefts, danger, and murder.
Beatrix has the ability to find people, property, and things. Beatrix is a psychologist and is now married to Thomas, and hopefully plans to have a family. Thomas has some surprises as well. There is fallout from the war, and Beatrix is asked to find suspected war criminals and thefts of significant objects. As “The Pursuer,” Beatrix is determined to find “the truth” at any cost. Everyone is suspect and hiding secrets. There is danger and murder. There are twists and turns and unexpected revelations. I highly recommend this thought-provoking novel. -
The pursuer
By Eva Shaw.
Well written historical novel.
Eva shaw does a wonderful job.
This is my first book by this author and she drew me in. From the first page.
World war ll historical fiction.
A book i truly enjoyed.
Thank you Eve For this amazing story.
A story about so much history.
A Story about things that happened in the past but you can only Imagine. This is the perfect historical fiction World War 2 book..
Beatrix Patterson,
She is a pursuer .there's mystery murder and a few other things. When one claims to be something they're not. Beatrix Is almost like a detective. But she's really a pursuer. She will find the answers for everyone. Proving who's in the right and who's in the wrong.
The story takes you from california to louisiana. and few other places. Not only is Beatrix pursuer, She's a wife.. With a wonderful husband. And she would love to be a mother. But will that happen well time will only tell on that.
This is book three. I truly enjoyed this story.
I plan on reading the first two books.
I felt like this but could be read as a standalone..
And I must say, I'm looking forward to the next book in the installment.. -
This is the third installment in this historical mystery series. The setting is post World War II Santa Barbara, California.
Beatrix(Bea) Patterson has a doctorate in psychology but due to her incredible memory and keen eye for detail she finds herself helping solve multiple mysteries.
In THE PURSUER, Bea is trying to find a missing hospital worker, the truth about a rabbi and a doctor as well as where missing indigenous artifacts have gone.
She has help from her husband, Thomas, who is a scientist at the local university. Along with new mysteries and characters, there are old friends from the previous two books such as Bea’s best friend, Jo, and friends from her time in New Orleans.
I enjoyed this mystery as much as the two previous ones. Eva does a nice job of making the mysteries pertinent to the time period.
I also like there is a subplot of Bea and Thomas trying to start a family.
You can read this as a stand alone, but I recommend reading the other two books to really get a feel for Bea’s character development.
As always, I anticipate what mysteries Bea will solve next. -
The Pursuer is Book 3 in the Beatrix Patterson mystery series by Eva Shaw.
This book can be read as a standalone, but I think more reading enjoyment will be found knowing some of the characters backstory.
World War II is over, but society has changed and there are so many horrifying things taking place.
Eva and her husband Thomas are trying to put the horrors of war behind them and focus on the future and their family.
Unfortunately, things are heating up for Eva. She is asked to expose war crimes and the people that killed so many people. Not only that there is a plot to rob Indigenous people from their relics.
There is Voodoo practice, which I found really interesting. There is so much mystery and action in this book, that I really enjoyed.
There are so many secrets and twists and turns which I really enjoyed.
The characters are well written, researched and fleshed out.
The mystery is so fantastic. It is obvious to me the research the author has put into this book and the entire series.
Highly recommend! -
I love an amateur sleuth; how about you? Beatrix Patterson is one of my favorites. She is a licensed psychologist with a brilliant memory and acute perception, but she’s funny and is not afraid to put herself in precarious situations.
Beatrix is off on her next mystery when, in 1947, she sets out to help a Polish woman who had been imprisoned during the war find a man. But it leads to a much broader scope than Beatrix could have imagined. Soon, she is pursuing war criminals and searching for the valued objects plundered during the war.
Although the story does take us back into WWII territory, elements such as voodoo, indigenous artifacts, and all the great characters keep it from becoming too weighty. Now married to Thomas Ling, Beatrix is longing to become a mother, so that adds depth to the story as well.

This is the third in the Beatrix Patterson series. Each can be read as a stand alone but the writing is wonderful so they’re all worth reading in my opinion. Beatrix is such a unique character - - strong, compassionate and her rare condition of hyperthymesia (never forgetting anything she has read) comes in very handy with her sleuthing. Bea’s husband Thomas is a great character as well and I love that they were exploring opportunities to grow their family in this book. All the twists and turns made this a real page turner. Love that this book benefits Days for Girls International!

This author has very quickly become one of my favorite authors. This latest Beatrice Patterson mystery takes place two years after the war and Beatrix seeks to expose war criminals. This has a thick plot of mystery and suspense, ingenious relics, even some Voodoo. I loved the multi-layers of this story. I do recommend you read the previous books as this is book 3 in the series but it can be read as a standalone. I love Beatrix and her husband Thomas. What a great series this is. Definitely check it out.

Eva Shaw does it again. She pens a beautifully written mystery surrounding Beatrix Patterson and her husband Thomas Ling. They work together to solve the crimes brought to them, and those discovered along the way, with intelligence and self-effacing humor. Cleverly plotted with lots of twisty turns and impeccable research done on the subject, this book kept me entertained and up way too late to finish it.
I received a gifted copy in exchange for an honest review. -

Beatrix and Thomas are one of my favorite characters. I love how well they work together in solving mysteries and also I love their relationship. Another Five Star read for me!
-
Another fantastic book in the Beatrix Patterson mystery series. I loved this page turner and I am looking forward to the next adventure.

Thomas and Beatrix are such a cute couple. I love that I can feel how much they love one another and how well they work as a team. Not only was Beatrix following up on a suspicious death, but they were also trying to plan for a family. I really enjoyed how much of their personal life we got to see in this book, and it was woven into the investigation well. Beatrix has a fantastic memory and I liked how it was used to input some historical facts important to the plot. I was a little surprised that she did not pick up the unease that Thomas had about a certain matter because of her ability to read people. The lapse in communication between them was resolved in a good way. Beatrix’s way of solving people’s problems give me cozy mystery vibes and I love it.
