It’s 1868 and many people are relying on the skills of scout Drake Sagewater.

Drake is helping settlers on their way to California. The Andrews family, riding in a canvas wagon, has been attacked by a shrewd renegade from the Apache Nation, named Jace.

With a rag-tagged band of fellow renegades, Jace is making life miserable, and sometimes deadly, for settlers. That is the case with the migrating Andrews family, who loses their patriarch, Jed Andrews, in a raid. While seeking justice, Jed’s daughter, Lydia, takes a shine to the handsome young Drake Sagewater.

Drake’s challenge is daunting. Jace is trying to hatch a diabolical plan to have settlers and Apaches at each other’s throats for decades. The only thing in Jace’s way is Drake and a fellow scout, Bold Rover, a Navajo and U.S. Army scout.

It won’t be easy for the scouts, as Drake and his companion go toe-to-toe against Jace and try to avenge Jed’s senseless and violent death.

Another classic western with respectful romance and women as strong frontier folk from author William Black.

Each book in the American Post-Civil War Westerns series is a standalone story that can be read out of order.

Scouts (American Post-Civil War Westerns) Reviews

    Good Storyline

Great western showing the life struggles of settlers going to California, the wagon masters, the army tasked with protecting them and the scouts who guided them. It also showed the evil of the men robbing, kidnapping, and killing people. Loved that the story included the Navaho scouts who fought to help the army. Glad there was some romance intertwined in story without it being rude and crude. Look forward to reading more books by this author.

    Ok

This story really begins to get interesting about half through. Two scouts, a Navajo and white man, team up to help the army rid the territory of comancheros and renegade apaches. The plot is long, has a few twists, and some romance. The scouts escort a wagon train bound for California.

    Good read.

An action packed western. Army, Indians, and Commancheros make for an exciting story. Throw in a love story or two.
