Grantland Quarterly no. 7 Reviews

  • Ricky Carrigan

More really good stuff from Grantland, just unparalleled sports, and pop culture writing.

First off, the cover is a winner.

And the Grantland proofreaders were picking up their game. In fact they were killing it...but someone got a case of the yips. They were getting close to the 7th inning stretch and then they started to stumble. On pg. 291 we get an email exchange about David Bowie not dying by Chuck Klosterman and...wait for it...Chuck Klosterman (in reality Alex Pappademas played the part of one of the Chucks). A few more typos dropped before the end of Grantland 7, but basically, I'm still waiting for the perfect game, the typo-less volume.

This volume covered January to March 2013, which meant that the print version did not collect Michael Weinreb's stunning tribute to
Donald Westlake. You should go check it out.

There are a lot of high points in this set of articles including "Out of Africa," "God Needs a Hobby," "How Soccer Explains Israel," "Glenn Beck vs. WWE," "30 Rock Landed on Us," and "Back to School." There is also the rundown of the Fast and Furious 6 trailer that echoes in a much different way with the recent death of Paul Walker.
