Jesus came to deacon (Mark 10:45; Rom. 15:8). And the greatest among us will be deacons (Mark 10:43). It’s not a bad label to wear, apparently. There should be nothing unspiritual about a deacon. What about your church? Do you officially recognize anyone as a deacon? Doing so publicly holds forth models of Christian love and service.
In this issue of the 9Marks Journal, Jamie Dunlop and Benjamin Merkle explore the biblical foundations of the office, and Matt Schmucker, Phil Newton, and John Ingold discuss how we can help deacons in our churches live up to their biblical calling.

All 9Marks Journals are worth reading. This one was no different. I love that when I have a topic I am interested in I am pretty sure 9Marks has done a journal on it. This is amazing! I was blessed by this journal

This was “required reading” as we kicked off a new season of ministry as church officers back in September. Nothing particularly ground-breaking for me but a useful series of articles to work through together. Sets out the clear Biblical roles and responsibilities for the office of deacon.
