The Vampire Diaries #4 Reviews
-
I'm currently reading the Vampire Diaries comic series and this is the fourth installment. Through a Glass, Darkly is a one shot with cartoonish drawings, unlike the rest.
To be fair this cartoon style was't a very good look for Damon and Elena, but the story-line was really good, although it had nothing to do with them.
The story is about a dead girl Damon and Elena find while playing around in the Salvatore Boarding House basement. Then hey proceed reading her journal, an account of her life-story, how she ended up there left to die and her final hours.
THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK
- New style totally different form the first 3.
- Not very accurate on the characters behavior. I couldn't believe that Elena wasn't concerned about that girl.
- I liked the 'diary' idea.
- But the ending of the mirror was very Damon-like. -

I enjoyed the story quite a lot, it was different and it involved a playful Elena and Damon moment but I didn't like the art so much. I liked the style of the other issues art better, this one was too cartoonish they don't look like Elena and Damon. Although the cover art was love at first sight, but I will continue with the series because the story line was good and that's why I gave it this rating.

I liked Elena and Damon's relationship in here, even though at times the art showed them a little different.

Loved the story. Hated the art. It went from cool art depicting the actual characters to silly childish scribble.

Great story but the artwork was subpar
Despite my dislike of the pricing, I found that the stories are interesting and pull you in. It became apparent that there are different artists working on different volumes of these comics. I prefer the artist for volumes 1 through 3 verses this one. The characters look nothing like themselves, they look too cartoonish and goofy. The story itself seemed a little unrealistic and immature. Elena and Damon playing hiding go seek? And then the discovery they made while running around like two little Doofy kids? Very unrealistic and out of character. Nevertheless it was enjoyable. Since I already bought the complete sets-volumes two through four I will continue reading.
