Thus begins the fourth breathtaking adventure in the Ghostwriter Mystery series by top-selling cozy author C.A. Larmer. In this instalment, Roxy is hired by the dead man’s baffled daughter to find a missing photograph. At first glance, the portrait of six friends looks innocent enough but behind the beaming smiles hides a secret so chilling, even Roxy Parker will be swept off her high-heeled feet.
As our merlot-swilling heroine races to find the photo before the burglar beats her to it, she uncovers more than a simple happy snap—two of the people in the photo have been murdered and there are more corpses to come. But why? What secret does the image hold? And why is someone trying to silence everyone involved?
In Roxy’s most confounding mystery to date, it’s not just about murder, it’s about greed, betrayal and cold-blooded revenge.
There are plenty of laughs, though, along the way as we reunite with Roxy's gregarious mates, including cool cop Gilda and hunky boyfriend Max. He's trying hard to support Roxy's death fetish but has a bombshell of his own to drop. Does this spell disaster for their burgeoning relationship? And should she have paid a little more attention to her meddling mom?
Buckle your seatbelts for another gripping Ghostwriter Mystery ride ...

When Roxy Parker was approached by an anxious, frail looking woman by the name of Sondra, she had no idea her request for Roxy to find an old photograph which her father had owned would change her life in a not so nice way. Roxy was a ghostwriter and had recently finished a biography for Sir Wolfgang – it seemed he had been a friend of Sondra’s father. The mystery was intensified by the fact that it was Roxy’s name that was muttered as her father died…
The faded black and white photograph from a Survey Congress in Indonesia in 1975 showed six friends – nothing startling about that. But the fact that one by one these people were dying, and mostly by suspicious means, meant Roxy and her best friend, Gilda who was a cop, had a killer on their hands. Danger had never bothered Roxy, but now she was courting it. As long held secrets were uncovered she knew there was no way the killer would leave witnesses alive. Could she stop more deaths? Would she herself be safe? It seemed the life of a ghostwriter was never easy.
Dying Words (Ghostwriter Mystery #4) by Aussie author C.A. Larmer is a great cosy mystery with an excellent plot. Set in Sydney, the pace was fast, the tension electric, and there were lighthearted and amusing anecdotes as well. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and as my first by this author, I will definitely be going back to #1 and starting the series in order. Highly recommended. -
This is the first book by
C.A. Larmer I've read and it was certainly entertaining and mysterious. Roxy is a ghostwriter and she has recently finished up with a photo to insert in the more or less textbook/memoir she has been working on for billionaire Sir Wolfgang Bergman. Surprisingly, the photo almost takes on a life of its own. What can possibly be so important or so damaging in that photo to be such a contentious issue. Sure, everyone seems to be looking at something or someone else, but why?
Is the photo revealing something that Bernie is so desperately trying to convey to the family with his dying words with "Roxy...has...it"?
Roxy has her hands full with trying to help Bernie's daughter Sondra who certainly is very focused on what she imagines must be a fortune. Finding a copy of the photo and studying it tells them nothing of importance, and therein lies the mystery. This is a mystery that no one wants to talk about, a mystery that seems to turn around every time Roxy gets close, but Bernie's daughter is definitely not going to give up, not at all! Even as the people in the photo begin dying off or are killed off. Roxy, with her good friend Gilda, a policewoman, make no headway. They figure Sir Wolfgang has the answer, and maybe he does, at least part of it. The mysteries will take you down the garden path, so to speak, but so much happened in Indonesia with the survey group that nothing seems clear. Clearly, everyone knew something about this mystery, but with all the deaths and murders, no one seems to know it all. This was a good mystery, one that didn't want to be solved, and I really enjoyed the book. -
Dying Words, Ghostwriter Mystery #4
by C.A. Larmer
Roxy Parker and her crew are back. This time out, Roxy is asked by the daughter of a man she interviewed to find whatever it was he referred to on his deathbed. Why Roxy? Because his last words were that "Roxy Parker has it." As this man was only interviewed as a sidelight to the ghosted autobiography she wrote for a well known entrepreneur, Roxy has no idea what "it" is or how to go about finding it. This leads her on a chase to locate the people in a photography from a surveying convention that took place 37 years before. This proves quite the task, with two of the people in the photo dying prior to the man Roxy interviewed, and when she does find one of them, he dies a mysterious death the very next day. What secret lies behind that old photograph? Roxy is determined to know the truth!
Like the others in this series, the book is well paced, has a nice, twisty plot, with lots of characters who might or might not be the villain. Editing and proofing are done well, so, for me, a non-Australian, the only stumbling blocks were the differences in the English language between Australia and the United States. To be truthful, I look forward to recognizing those idioms I've seen before and to figuring out what any new terms might mean.
Quick, fun read. -

Twisty Mystery
Enjoyed the plot and the characters. The plot took many twists and turns, very enjoyable. I highly recommend this book to all who enjoy a good mystery. -
This is the fourth book in the Ghostwriter Mystery series. These books are dependable, quality reads that consistently follow a formula that is easy to like and quick to read. I've enjoyed the whole series so far. The author has never really forced the protagonist into any romances, which is a breath of fresh air for me. I enjoy the interesting subjects the ghostwriter writes for. It's an interesting take on the cozy mystery genre.
The writing is crisp, the characters are well drawn, and the plot stays on course, yet gives enough twists that keeps entertaining the reader through the end. Never is there a feeling to jump ahead in the story or have a need to wander off topic. Not too flashy, but definitely not boring. Just a nice, dependable story here.
An enjoyable read.

Enjoyable read in the Roxy Parker series. Roxy is hired to track down a photograph given to her for a recent ghostwriting job. Lots of twists and turns in this mystery. We finally get to see Roxy and Max together, who have been dating 11 months at this point, but things aren't quite as rosy as expected on that front. Oliver takes a back seat in this installment. Overall a fun read, I look forward to the next Roxy Parker adventure.

I was totally caught by surprise when I started this book. The best mysteries are those that have enough suspects that it is harder to figure out who did it. I got a good mystery and did not figure it out before the reveal, not something that happens often. Roxy Parker is a great character who has bad taste in wine, I hate Merlot. This was a fun read with a fun detective/ghostwriter who gets things done even if it is not her regular job. I will be giving the rest of the series a chance.

Fantastic!! This is the best of this series so far!! Well written and fast paced while still being an easy read. Full of intrigue and red herrings to keep you guessing whodunit right up to the very end! Can't wait to read the next book to see what Roxie gets mixed up in!
