Laila knew in her heart that marriage should be for love, not for duty. Her union with Sheik Jabril would help improve and maintain political stability in her country, as well as bring the people of her province honor and pride. And Jabril was certainly easy on the eyes. He was tall, built like an Olympian, and exuded power and masculinity. But the man was a player of the worst sort, with mistresses all over the world! She realizes that she cannot say no to the Sheik of Surisia, so she respectfully requests that they treat their marriage like the business arrangement that it is. His response? He kisses her! Through that kiss, he demonstrates that he will not accept anything less than her full acquiescence, but she also discovers that his passion and physical presence stir something within her that she cannot control.

Their first public event together convinces Jabril that he made an excellent choice for a wife. She is not only stunningly beautiful, but smart and socially adept. She will be a worthy partner to rule his kingdom, and to share his bed! Her trembling response to his touch excites him, but her suggestion that they essentially live separate lives confounds and amuses him. There is no way he will allow that. The intensity of their first kiss lingers in his memory and he will not relent until he has experienced all she can give. He wants her in his bed, every night. And he will have her!

"The Sheik's Defiant Fiancée" is the story of Laila and Jabril.

This book should have been named "The tolerant Sheikh's super annoying fiance who should be sent to the Bermuda Triangle". Grr.
The short story is about an engaged couple- the H is a Sheikh and engaged to our h- the seemingly efficient and perfect to be Sheikha. The truth is that she does not want to marry him, has 100 misconceptions about the man, and instead of being logical and clearing the issue with him, all she does is the opposite. Literally every second sentence out of her mouth is "No, don't touch me" or "Don't do that". Bitch S P E A K your mind instead of whining and running away and giving in to hysterics. If I was the H, I'd have pushed her off my royal camel.

    Nope.
    Safe
1/5, and wishing for the h to land into camel dump

Admittedly I read this in a class where this was available for free. The title seemed cringeworthy enough (for fluff, so I wasn't expecting much) . However this book has a rape scene where the sheik (who is the male lead) rapes the protagonist who is continually telling him that she doesn't want sex. I find that it is messed up that books like these glorifies that sex is ok, or even desirable, if you consciously don't want it, but find the man physically irresistible. If this is the standard we set, then it belittles any meaning in a woman's verbal consent to sex, which ultimately means that it is ok to rape as long as the perpetrator thinks that the victim is "turned on". This is ridiculous and potentially dangerous,

The Sheik's Defiant Fiancée is a nice short romance story about Laila and her soon-to-be husband Sheik Jabril. The story was fun, with steamy moments and i liked the fact that even though it was short(only 66 pages!) it felt completed. It didn't make me feel like the story needed something more-that it was missing something like some other short stories made me feel.

But i would like to see a little more world building, i'm sure it would be entertaining to learn more things about 'Surisia' the country the characters live in and the customs they have.

The way the point of view in the story changes sometimes even in the same paragraph is very nice, the transitions from one character to another have a smooth flow and we get to read about what each of them is thinking.

I really enjoyed this story and i hope i'll get to read more of them.

I enjoyed the other two stories loosely connected with this one so I thought I'd give it a try. I found that out of the three that I wasn't as enamored with this one.

Mostly it was the heroine. At first I liked her and respected her stance about her upcoming arranged marriage. She heard rumors that her soon to be husband, the country's ruler, was a philanderer and didn't want to go beyond a business like arrangement since he wouldn't be faithful. But then when she confronts him and he tells her that she has the wrong end of the stick and has him mixed up with his cousin, she refuses to believe it and spends almost the rest of the book in denial. Denial of attraction and feelings even lying about it while pushing the guy away. I get it on a certain level and understand that she's just scared, but it still got old and made no sense because it was one of those 'I'll deny with words, but my expressions and actions don't match and I'm fooling no one' type things. In the end, when it takes a crisis to get her in gear, I was like 'finally'.

I liked the couple together and the overall plot was good so it turned out mostly enjoyable.

I'm not sure if this book is an introduction to a series, if so then they did a piss poor job of introducing those characters and if its a stand alone, it still wasn't very good. I didn't have any problems at all with Jabril's character, he was sweet, sexy and honest. Unlike Laila! Damn her character was annoying! I would totally understand where she was coming from, being essentially forced into an arranged marriage, if she didn't actually want it, but she did.
I really dislike female leads who want something but pretend they don't, only to give in and then get all upset, high and mighty and spout nonsense about it all. Laila was just like that, pretending she hated Jabril but gave in to everything, quite easily and fast I might add. She wasn't DEFIANT in any sense of the word, she was just in DENIAL!

  • Kate Swartz

Crrrrap. Seriously. The only thing hat even makes this sheik related is the actual word and maybe the main character names. Other than that, nope. There are just way too many things to list about why this was utter nonsense. Bah. Glad it was less then 70 pages of my valuable time.

    The Sheik’s Defiant Fiancée

Once again you have delivered a awesome novel, the story line keeps you on the edge of your seat, not really wanting to stop reading until the novel is finish. This novel take you on a journey of different cultures and exotic sweltering desert nights. I think to truly appreciate Elizabeth’s work you need to be open minded and take an wholistic view of the life and people in the desert.
Thank you Elizabeth Lennox you have once again absolutely excelled as a brilliant Author.

    Must read short story

Even though the book is a short story it is one of those that you have to read. It is about Laila who is suppose to marry someone who she only met once, who she doesn’t love or trust and than there is Jabil who is a Sheik and once he spends more time with Laila he can’t wait to marry her and must convince her to marry him....will he able to convince her that he loves her and to give them a chance

    Cute

I've read this one before years ago, so I decided to read it again to remember what it was about. It's a short romance story between Jabril and Laila. On how she didn't want to get hurt by a known womanizer, but he doesn't have other women waiting for him in other countries. All Jabril wants is Laila as his wife and to share his life.

    Too short

Is book was too damned short. Just when I started to get into the story, it ended. I also had an issue with how quickly the female lead capitulated to her feelings for the male lead.

Laila was promised unwillingly to Jabril. How could she marry a man she didn't even know? Heck, didn't even like.

    Too Short

A Sheik determined to earn his defiant fiancee love and trust. This sexy story is just too short but still hot and entertaining. Fun reading.

I really enjoy Elizabeth Lennox's writing - the storyline flows so easily throughout the book, it is hard to put down. I highly recommend!!

  • KissedbytheShadows

I could hardly get my hands on this book and I have to say, the time and effort I put into finding this just wasn't worth it. The blurb sounded so appealing with the alpha hero and fierce girl. But this...
I didn't understand the characters. The sheik basically forced himself on the heroine and she just gave in. Just like that. No real fight.
If I have to use one word to describe this book, I would use disappointing.

Laila knew what she was getting herself into with marring Sheik Jabril. This is a business deal for her father, not love for her. She is a college grad for starters, and she knows what she wants in life, and even though she is marring the man she doesn’t want anything to do with the past playboy that probably has two to three woman on the side hidden from her.

What she didn’t expect was how much he turned her into a puddle of mush. Head strong and determined she voiced what she needed and wanted, only he didn’t agree with her. He had picked her based on her background, but it was the way her eyes looked up at him that made him more determined to win her over.

With his hansom seductive voice of his he convinces her that she wants him too. She stayed cool on the outside keeping prim and proper in front of everyone else, but her trembling arm, her shaky hand, and the way she kissed him back gave him clear indication that she wanted him just as bad as he wanted her. The only difference between them he was willing to show her what it would be like for them if they gave into those needs.

Being her first and only he’s compelled to keep her his, and only his. Her thoughts of others for him had been completely wrong but only confirmed that as he took her into the pleasures of love.

Shot by snipers can Laila confess her true need, desire, and love to him?

    Read the story!

So this is the third story I've read in this series but it's the first chronologically.
Again, this author's books remind me of fluffy harlequins romances so I'm not expecting too much, I am glad they've all been free. Zero development of the characters and hardly any description of anything. I came away not really knowing what they were supposed to look like, except she had dark hair and is shorter than him and he is tall with dark eyes.

Laila is to marry a sheik she has only met once, she's determined not like him because she believes he is a womanizer. She actually proposes that they view their marriage as a business arrangement and have children through in-vitro with no sex. She's supposed to be educated but she acts like a ninny most the time. I wouldn't have been surprised if she stamped her foot.

I don't know why he finds her so alluring but that is the premise. He seduces her and she falls all over him but still doesn't trust him. It all gets tied up in a bow in the end.

So, it was ok and mildly entertaining.

Laila was not happy about being a participant in a production. She walked down the runway. Royal Highness, Prince Jabril El Amin Yarin, Sheik of Surisia was in attendance. He thought she was stunning. Sheik Jabril asked Laila to dance. He had quite a reputation with the woman.

Would the Prince ask her to be his wife?

Cool book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written ethnic cultural prince/princess love story (book). It was very easy to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. No grammar errors, repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could make a great fairy tale romantic movie, animated cartoon or mini TV series. A very easy rating of 5 stars for this short story (book).
Thank you for the free short story (book)

    Mini-Review

I started this book in between reading Ready Player One, mainly, because I just added it to my tablet. It was a very short story. It felt as if it was a novella, and I’m not sure if that was the intention. There wasn’t any character development and hardly an characterization. Throughout the story, I had a hard time understanding why Laila was pushing Jabril away. I mean I know the initial reason was because she believed he was a player, but once he tells her the truth, she doesn’t really give much reason to keep pushing. It also felt as if the story wasn’t developed enough. I ended up not caring about what happened to the characters because they’re not memorable. Others may like The Sheik’s Defiant Fiancée, but it wasn’t for me.

I read this book finding it was connected to at least two other books. I made the error of reading
The Tycoon's Make-Believe Fiancée, the third book in this series first and didn't realise it was a book in a trilogy or series until I read
The Prince's Resistant Lover, the second installment in this series. Each can be a stand alone, however you get more insight to the characters and the storyline if you read them in order.

This book and the other two are tender little love stories, however they were just too short for my liking, so they only earned a 4.5 rating.

  • Caro

This was an ok/good freebie. I liked the story but the characters were a little off somehow. I didn't quite connect with them very well but I enjoyed reading the book. Most of the time I was just aggravated and wanted to smack 'em and tell them to get their stuff together. There were some steamy scenes, a little suspense towards the end, a lot of anxiety feelings, but a good ending. I don't really think I'll read this again but it was an ok read and not a waste of time. Good for something to read but it didn't drag me in at all. Good luck

Laila has a quiet strength that found appealing. Jabril is a total alpha who has never had anyone stand up to him. She believes that he is a playboy of the worst sort and I liked how she takes a stand against him with such determination. It took him way too long to explain himself to her. Even after she told him what was the problem, he allowed her to believe the worst. The ending was sweet and satisfying.

Well, very short read. Only took me 30 minutes to finish it.

Laila is very stubborn she become a pain the bottom. I mean, she keeps struggling and denying Jabril, saying that she doesn't like him and stuff like that yet when he kiss her, she 'melted'. I was like, get a grip!

Jabril is sweet but again, the story is so darn short I can't feel the chemistry between them. A bit disappointing. Overall, sweet book.

The story was a good one. Of course, it could have been longer but for a free book what do you expect. It is clear to me that the publishers didn't read and/or correct this book before it was published. There were plenty of grammatical errors that were very distracting. For example "...he pulled him against his ..." instead of he pulled her. Other than that it was a good storyline and a good read.

I bought this book for free on amazon and I'm sooo glad I did. It was hot, and sexy, I just wish it was longer. I would have liked to have a bigger story with Jabril and Laila, would have liked their love story to be prolonged but I guess that's what we get with novellas. Anyway it was SMOKIN and INTENSE, but also really wonderful.

I have download this book on Amazon freebee. It was a very short read for me. I was a little confused by the storyline namely if you are going to marry someone and you find that person attractive why building up the wall around yourself? It appears to be simple solution as married you have sexual relationship with a husband. simple
