Kept me interested
I would have liked a little less suspense and more steam. There was very little time with them all together as a couple. I needed to see more growth from them, especially amber. She was very immature die her age. -
The first thing that I think about when I think about this book—and said to myself while reading it—was that it all was “too nice”. The second is that it was not the book for me.
Something maybe intrinsically wrong with me for thinking this, but I did think it was all too nice. It seemed to me even the conflict/murder case went too nice. The men were so very pleasant and the whole story went along agreeably—though I think it sorta dragged a bit. It was refreshing to read a story were the MCs didn’t hop right into bed after meeting, but the guys were so very nice … did I say that already?
I think I maybe too used to jerks….
If it weren’t for the warning tags for the book I would have thought that this was going to be a sweet sort of romance or something. The erotic—at least for me—was only present in the wording that was used in the really short—at least for me again—love scenes. I did like some of the wording and descriptions the author used during the story. Then again, some phrases made me want to cringe.
One of the men actually said “sweet nectar.” Do guys say that outside of flowery historical romances? I maybe jaded, but I totally would have whiskey-tango-fox-trotted @ that if it happened.
I am not too very against the use of pet names for girlfriends, if they are not over done and the girl’s actual name is used once in a while…. Stone called her “baby” while Cade called her “sugar” (waaay too much imo) and I can’t recall them using her name much if at all. Which just kept making me think about something where I read that when a guy doesn’t use your name it is a good sign he is cheating since he can’t keep name straight and it is safer than accidently calling “Sara” by the name “Martha.” They are too nice and busy for that though!
The suspense/murder mysterish part of the plot went too easy for me and there wasn’t really much suspense besides the bit at the end. This would definitely be a book for someone who likes nicer/romancy books without too much suspense and a sweet love story with an added bit of kink in the form of a ménage relationship.
This book was too nice for me, but most likely nice enough for someone else. -
I love free books. Especially books that are the start of a series, because I don't know whether I'll like the books or the author if it's someone I'm reading for the first time.
Pretty sure I got this one free, so that was a bonus.
This book was confusing at the beginning. Maybe because I was reading it while on the bike machine thing at the gym (I can multi task).
Why would a nurse be asking a paramedic medical questions only a doctor had the answers to? I'm sure as a nurse Amber had the basis of her brother's injury, so why the need to ask Stone?
Also, it suddenly was like they were best friends, talking about everything. Then again, Amber is alone with dealing with her brother and sometimes you just need to talk. But talking about your entire life with a practical stranger is odd to me.
The quilting thing was killin' me, though. I didn't know this book would be so corny in places, I really didn't. Their actions were corny, the dialogue was even worse sometimes.
Whee!
How could this be corny and have a serious menage relationship? But it was. At times it wasn't too bad so I thought it would get better. It didn't.
Oh and what is up with menage relationships in Montana?! All the authors that write on this topic all seem to have it based in Montana. Is there something there I should know about?
Did I like this book? Sure. It was ok, but not amazing. -

Having read other books by this author I have to say I was a bit disappointed. I liked the storyline mystery of an Angle of Death but thought the main characters were a little too removed from the events that were occurring ,especially since Amber's brother was killed. Stone and Cade's courtship was rather unorthodox considering the situation and Amber overcoming her brothers death in a matter of days just did not seem realistic. The ending was kind of anticlimactic and I really did not see the characters or the reader getting any real closure from the traumatic events that occurred. The story did not seem to flow smoothly and the characters menage relationship seemed to come together really fast with out a lot of group interactions. Even though I had issues with this storyline, I did enjoy reading it. However it was not up to the quality I have come to associate with this author.

not as bad as I was expecting. the mystery and the murder were far more interesting than the love story. honestly this book would have been way better with 50 pages less since most of it was unnecessary info and boring dialogues. the sex scenes were endless and IMHO boring too.
so... anyway... luckily the writing was simple and made it an easy read. and as I said above, the mystery was interesting. -
Learning to trust
A very good menage. There is a strong plot to story that is being developed through subplots and character progression. I look forward to read more of the series. -
I'm fairly surprised that I even finished this one. Boy did it have a lot of negatives going for it, but I just kept holding out hope that things would get better. Unfortunately, it never did get better. Beyond the too numerous to count editing issues, I think the thing that bugged me the most was that the relationship between these three never felt like it was going to work. Now I'm not going to spend much more time on this review, as I have already invested too much in simply finishing the book, but let's just suffice to say this isn't one I'm going to be recommending to anyone.
-
Book was ok. Nothing overly great...just felt long and wordy. I think if Cade called her Sugar one more time I would have lost it. Just read to end to see who was the angel of mercy. Finally finished and it felt like the characters were not real...even the reactions felt off. Not one I would read again and the rest of the series I will have to pass on.

Liked the murder case. I loved the male main characters, specially Cade. He is delicious.
Personally, I believe some parts were super long and unnecesary.
The sex scenes were hot. I envy Amber lol. -
This read like a 3rd or 4th draft, not a final finished piece.
The so called ‘steamy’ parts were either boring, gross or over explained that it made it easier to skip. In fact skipping these massive story chunks made no difference in the story itself. Which is a massive red flag for storytelling.
If you can cut something and it still makes perfect sense then what was cut is useless fluff. Only add in what’s needed to tell the story, and the sex was not needed mostly because none the the characters had any chemistry. In fact they lacked any compatibility and it made it painful to read.
ALL of the characters were flat and boring making me wonder why I should care at all for them, which again is a bad tell of poor story telling. The relationships were also boring, flat and incapable of actually functioning. Literally all we saw them do was talk in a way NO HUMAN BEING would (the therapy session at the end was especially painful every other question she asked was “and how did that make you feel?” Therapists don’t actually ask that, they get you to open up by talking casually but professionally Amber’s answers were equally robotic and cringe), including weird questions asked during the ‘dates’ you could tell the author only tried to shoehorn in in order to attempt to make the characters appear more nuanced than they actually were, and have gross-me-out sex.
Really to me it felt like this was two completely different stories smashed together to make one and it did NOT work on any level.
The ending especially seemed rushed like the author didn’t actually have a plan or even cared that the main plot in the story didn’t flow or make much sense. The perpetrator was easy to guess and was fairly well foreshadowed, but there was little in the way of complex storytelling. It was all a rush just to get to the relationship part of the story. This made the imbalance and Frankenstein nature of the story VERY obvious.
And there was the issue of certain plot points being completely dropped like dealing with the brothers death and her cold mother issues though these were quickly resolved at the end in a very weird way. They were mentioned enough but seemed to be a moot point after a while like they weren’t integral to the plot… which they actually kind of were, *sarcastically* but hey it would be weird and awkward to have a woman still grieving her brothers MURDER to fall into bed with the paramedic that found him and the cop investigating his death so why not just distance yourself from it so they can all have sex. *end sarcasm*
People also seemed to just get over their trauma at the drop of a hat and injuries seemed to be so much less severe than they would otherwise be. I mean being released from the hospital the very next day after having a bullet wound in your arm? I think not, unless America is WAY more lax then everywhere else? And the fact that Amber went home at all when her house was a CRIME SCENE the day before…? What!?
And the tack on at the end with the mother? Again Huh?
Amber was an overly whiney wimp which seemed weird considering her health care role, a role in which she would see people dying everyday and is always in need of a cool head and problem solving skills. Not to mention people skills. She seemed to have very little in the way of charm that most nurses have with people. She also seemed to breakdown every other scene and was always in need to a shoulder to cry on. The girl needed therapy not two hot studs to fuck.
And Cade and Stone’s overly hyper masculine descriptions annoyed the hell out of me. “They were real manly men” is a toxic way to still be describing male main characters. It makes them 2-dimensional faceless drones the reader can just graft whatever hot person they like onto. They also both had massive hero complexes and always seemed to flip flop between hyper masculine, sensitive poet and over sexed Dom. It was confusing and annoying, again leaning into the patch worked feel of the book.
I know this is designed to be a fantasy, but it read like an identity crisis that had boring characters I honestly would never root for because they were too ‘perfect’ or too cliched. -
I wonder if this is the lowest I’ve ever rated a book I’ve actually finished. 1.5 stars that I’m rounding up to be nice.
Look, it’s spicy. If you’re into it purely for spice, it’s not bad. But all the parts around the spice are bad. Amber, who is an oncology nurse (a specialized field that requires a certain ambition as well as toughness), is the biggest victim ever. Bless her heart, but every tiny thing is just destroying her, even though at the end she’s perfectly fine with it bc she has love. She does not process any of it, and admits that she hasn’t, but she’s fine bc her men.
(Side note: I was reminded with blessing her - I really don’t know anyone from outside of the southern US ask for sweet tea everywhere. A lot of northern states don’t even make sweet tea - they think it’s just regular iced tea that you then add sugar too once it’s cooled. That one tiny detail kept taking me out of the book.)
The guys were hot - even though they’re discussing investigations and patients with others, and again it kept taking me out of the book.
As for the spice, I didn’t know DP was a requirement for MFM relationships, and if I didn’t know, why should a girl who’s never been in one know it?
I hate the ending. I HATE it. Having the best friend play psychologist would never happen. The whole mom scene was unnecessary. I like that Amber found closure I guess, but at the same time, her regrets flashes before her in a near death situation, and she’s still whining and petty with her mom? I get it - mom is toxic and she doesn’t need that. But she also doesn’t need to be a bitch about it for the sake of a HEA ending. It was just weird. It easily could have ended without the party part.
ETA: I read some of the other reviews and was reminded of one of the weirdest things about this book: guys referring to their genitals as “him” WHILE engaging in sexual activities (such as telling girl to “suck him”). Just…cringe. I literally shuddered. -
As an erotica, there were not enough smutt scenes for my tastes, especially not involving all members of this menage at the same time. As a romance with a dash of eroticism and a bit of crime/thriller added to the mix, the story is actually quite enjoyable.
There were a few things that buggered me a bit. The level of language that sometimes clashed which made my Linguist/translator persona cringe. I'm far from being prude and have read my fair share of erotica, some drowning in smutt so racy vocabulary does not make me cock an eyebrow (see what I did there? lol) but when it's paired with "making love with" form the get go, the level of language used does not mesh with the racy words used.
Buuuut, that's just me being a wee bit a pain in the patella.
I truly did enjoy the story though at the beginning, Amber made me grind my teeth in a "oh no, not one of those hapless females" but she came a bit more into her own as the story progressed.
I loved the fact that it was hard for the three of them to get together. It added a bit of realism when one considered the sort of jobs they all held. Though, realistically, there is no way in freezing Hell I would have ever gotten buck naked in a woodsy area/park near a lake. I live in a a forest so I know all about human-blood craving insects. Yeah, those would ruin any sort of romance going on.
One thing for sure, I do wish to know where all these people live where menage relationships are not so unusual 'cause I'm really not living in the right part of the map! -
Amber Delacroix's brother had a terrible accident, and while his injuries weren't fatal, he ends up dead at the hospital and she's the number on suspect. She finds comfort with Stone who was the paramedic who was first on the scene. Stone can't get enough of her, but he shares everything with his roommate Cade. And Cade is the detective investigating Amber's brother's murder. Her attraction to both men only complicates matters more. Can they solve the case before more patients at the hospital are murdered and Amber ends up behind bars?
This is the first book in the steamy Montana Promises series, but it is a stand alone book too. Everything wraps up in the end, so you don't have to fear a cliffhanger here. Nothing seems to be going right for oncology nurse Amber, and she immediately grabs your sympathy by being so sweet and kind. I very much enjoyed the mystery aspect and trying to figure out who the killer was. I guessed a couple of people before I got it right! The romance was sweet and the intimate scenes were scorching. Lots of great sizzling parts that include scenes with Amber and both of the men. Stone and Cade are hard-working Alpha men but also very nice and tender in terms of Amber. While they are what Amber needs, neither of them change or grow through the story. Overall a good read, especially if you're looking for a romance with hot scenes. -
Great story. This is a MFM story and let me tell you it can get steamy.
Amber who was an oncology nurse seen death everyday. The one death she probably never prepared herself for was her brother. My heart broke for her when she was faced with her brother’s death. He was the only family member she was truly close to.
Stone was this sexy paramedic. I love the compassion he shown to Amber. Stone really had a good heart. I also love that he was a straight shooter and did not care to tell it like it was.
Cade had a hard job. He was the detective that was investigated these death’s in the hospital that Amber was working at. He was also best friends and roommates with Stone.
I can only imagine the discord and conflict between Cade and Stone when Cade had to investigate Amber over her brother’s murder. Cade had a job to do and Stone was determined to stand by Amber.
I loved reading about these three getting together. Things heat up fast. Now this is also a murder mystery and will keep you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out who the real murder is. I truly loved this story and glad I took out time to read the book. -
This is the first erotic romantic suspense novel I have ever read. It has a little bit of everything.
Amber Delacroix, an oncology nurse, is a suspect in a murder. She's also dealing with Chris's accident. He's in a coma and may not survive, and then he dies (and again, she's under suspicion of his murder).
The paramedic, Stone, who worked on Chris, is a caring man and finds he's interested in Amber. His roommate Cade is the police detective in charge of these murders, but once he realizes Amber isn't the mercy killer, his feelings for her change. Which one will become the love of Amber's life? Is it Stone, who is sweet and caring? Or is it Cade, who is more forceful? Or will it be something more?
Who is the murderer? Will Cade catch the murderer before he or she kills again?
A few What-the-tuck trends (winks, green-eyed character, smirks) and some graphic sexual scenes (the town is called Rock Hard after all) so be forewarned if this bothers you, but overall, not too many typos...so I'd read the author's works again.
-
I disliked just about everything in this book. The summary seemed really promising, but in the end this book was just incredibly boring. The murder plot seemed more like an afterthought, with an anticlimactic ending. Seriously they tell you who did it halfway into the book. I kept expecting a twist and it being someone else after all.
The characters were bland. The guys were so sweet, they were too sweet and unrealistic. And seriously were they incapable of using her name to her face? The nicknames were too annoying. The dialogue overall was cringe worthy and immature. I was so bored I even started skimming over the sex scenes.
And seriously guys don’t refer to your penis as he or him while having sex it’s a major turn off. Also the city in this book is called “Rock Hard”... really? The only way the writer could be more on the nose would be to call it Boner...
Got both this book and the second one for free on IBooks but I doubt I’ll even bother reading the second one. -
This romance/mystery is follows the lives of an oncology nurse and paramedic and police detective roommates during the time of a mercy killing investigation in a town in Montana. The roommates often share women in a town that is known for having ménage relationships. Although the plot follows along with the investigation and the healing after, the heart of the story is the romance between the three main characters.
This story takes in to account not only where their lives are now, but also about their childhoods and how that has shaped them as individuals as well as how they deal with relationships in the present.
There are a lot of romance novels out there and is appreciated to find one that adds a second plot in to the story line that helps tie together some of the threads that come in to play with the characters. Not everyone is a fan of ménage romances, but this was an easy read that captured my attention and had me finishing it in one sitting. -
Amber Delacroix is an Oncology nurse whose brother Chris runs a red light on his motorbike and is hospitalized and paralyzed. Within a few days he dies and shortly thereafter it is discovered that he was administered Ativan and murdered. Stone Benson, the paramedic who treated Chris had stopped by to check on him and throughout it all was extremely supportive to Amber. Stone's roommate and best friend Cade Carter is a police officer investigating two mercy killings at the hospital and is suddenly interviewing Amber as a suspect. There is no hard core evidence so the investigation moves on. In the meantime, Amber learns that Cade and Stone share their women in a town, Rock Hard Montana where menages are quite common. Amber overcomes her dislike for Cade and the menage begins. A good story, likeable characters and I am packing to move to Hard Rock, Montana.

fast love story
I purchased this via Amazon and am leaving my review voluntarily. It is book 1 in the Montana Promises series.
Triggers:
mfm, violence, mystery, murder
Spoilers:
Amber, a nurse at a local hospital.
Cade, a police detective. Likes being in control.
Stone, paramedic and best friend with Cade.
Amber meets Stone after he treated her brother who was injured. Cade had already met Amber while investigating a suspicious death at the hospital. When Ambers brother suddenly passes, Cade has no choice but to look at her as a possible suspect.
Stone is interested in Amber and when he realizes Cade is as well, they work together to make Amber theirs.
Who is the Angel of Mercy? Sexy time. HEA -
Didn’t like the fact she’s a main suspect in a mercy killing series and the Cade still goes on a date with her before the case is solved. Plus if Stone was the guy she started with, then why is Cade the only one getting the one on one sex sessions and he got her first? The only sex with Stone is during the threesome. Either he realizes it’s bad timing or their time is interrupted.
It starts off as Amber and Stone and then after Cade realizes she’s innocent it’s all about them and Stone is left out.
Ben’s break? Yeah didn’t buy that part and how it went down.
Don’t think I’ll continue this series. -
The only part I really liked about this story was the suspense. I just couldn't believe the thruple as they were written. Amber was your typical 'what do I do with 2 men?' and it shocked me that she slept with Cade right after she went out with Stone. Cade and Stone are always too busy for Amber. Between the three of them, their schedules might mess once a month. The bedroom scenes were 'eh' compared to other menages especially since most of them were one-on-one with the guys instead of as a thruple. They get engaged after a month and she has major Mommy issues that could've been dealt with better. Overall, a story like this should've been better.
-
Story was okay though the character development was uneven. I felt we got to know some of the characters more than others. The story arc was also uneven...some parts seemed to drag while others went too quick without sufficient detail. It was obvious fairly quickly who the villain was. The crisis moment was oddly done and didn’t jive with the lead up. It also made no sense the way the sting operation unfolded.
Overall the book had potential but there were too many holes for me to keep me head in the story and that is always a major negative for me. -
this is Amber, Cade, and Stone’s story. The unexpected relationships founded on kind acts..
Amber is a on duty cancer nurse at a small northern hospital when her supervisor pulls her aside to tell her the ambulance just brought her younger brother into the ER and she is needed. This is where she meets paramedic Stone who had brought Chris in. A few days later she meets Detective Cade, Stones roommate, as he is trying to find out who murdered Chris, and has been mercy killing patients in the hospital. -
Could 2 be better than 1, or will it just be double the heartbreak???
Amber hasn't had love treat her right in the past, so she's pretty set on not giving it another try again. But love is a mysterious thing that shows up when you aren't prepared for it, and for Amber it shows up in the form of double possibilities or double the heartbreak.
This book is filled with mystery, drama, and enough action to keep you turning the pages.
Happy reading : )
