How To CrochetA Guide For Newbies (Crafty Creations Book 1) Reviews

    unrated // read June 2022

This was free on Kindle and so I decided to skim this. It wasn’t helpful to me, since I was already familiar with all of the stitches, but could be a nice aid to someone who’s just getting started in crochet. I would recommend watching videos in conjunction with reading it, as some stitches are hard to learn without seeing someone do it.

    Really easy to read

I got this for my brother. I am introducing him to the world of crochet.
This will definitely help his quest.

    Cool and Easy

Many years ago I had borrowed a library book in the children’s section to learn how to crochet. Since that time and three kids later I wanted to get back to it but I couldn’t find the book. Alas, I came across this book and I’m so glad I did. The directions are very easy to follow in simple language that anyone can follow. I’ve made several hats that have been confiscated by my kids and a few other things. A big thank you to the author for this.

    Glad it was free

I am an avid crocheter, but am looking for good resources to share with someone who wants to learn. This is not it. My first issue is that there is a lack of correct vocabulary. This may seem picky, but if you teach yourself to crochet from this book and then try to crochet something from another source, you will probably struggle when you don’t understand “slip knot” and “yarn over”. You need to know the commonly used terms in order to understand normal patterns or directions. My other main issue is that it doesn’t seem to address the various parts of the stitches or where, specifically, to insert your hook. A clear description (and illustrations) that teach where the front loop, back loop, post, etc are on various stitches and where in these parts a hook is inserted at various times is, in my opinion, mandatory information for a beginner. I found this especially troublesome when skimming the patterns and saw one instructed to use one loop only. There are other areas that could be improved but I could overlook if it weren’t for these 2 main issues.

Really good help for a newbie.

I am a visual learner and because of that I find most "how to" books of any kind really hard to understand. If I see a pattern being done by someone I can remember it for life and can use it, but if all I get is verbal institutions I can't understand it at all. Luckily my mom taught me to granny square so I had rudimentary knowledge of crochet. The illustrations in this book are so clear that I got it finally after trying to learn for 20 years. I can now read a pattern and make anything because I have clear instructions and drawings to guide me. Thanks Sarah, great book!

    For beginners.

I would recommend this book for beginners. This tutorial is brief but trustworthy. It offers a few simple projects to work on. As an experienced crochet guru, I found this easy to follow and understand. Too boring and short for the experienced though. The illustrations are adequate and appear in a diagram format. This booklet also offers a guide to crochet hook sizes, tensions and abbreviations.

Here's what I love about this book - Taylor doesn't bog it down with details of the history of crochet or how she started (though i'm sure that is an important story for her). This is truly a straight forward, succinct instruction on how to crochet. While I have not yet been able to finish the projects included in the book, this is a reasonable book to return to and reread for reminders and additional practice.

    Good for beginners

Gives very basic instructions for beginners. The slipper pattern is interesting. I may make them. I've been crocheting for many years but I'm sure I'll pick up a few tips.

    Awesome book for beginners..

Loved this book from start to finish, though the stitch guides might have been better with more instruction images. I will be keeping this on my kindle as reference.

I really tried, it was not helpful for me, I. So used to knitting, that my hands go stupid when I try to crochet. Maybe I need in-person lessons.

A very nice guide for beginning crocheters - from hooks, yarn, all the basic stitches with a few beginner patterns. All is well written with easy to follow instructions.
