It took me a while to write this very short review because honestly I don't want to give anything away and I also wanted to make sure that I was in the correct mind frame.

Sometimes you get so excited for a book to come out and when it does it can hurt your book feelings. With that being said...

The moment they knew that Trace was in danger they should have put her butt into training on how and what to do to protect herself. Not treat her like a porcelain doll. It was annoying to read this "principessa" albeit farm raised not be who she needs to be; not only for herself but for everyone involved (Nixon, Chase, her grandfather).

I love Chase and Nixon and hope to goodness that book 3 brings HEA all the way around.

    review to come

    12/10: currently readin! sooo excitred!

    _-------------------
December feels like it's so far away.

    Teaser from her Blog:

    ELECT (Eagle Elite 2)

“Nevermind.” Chase got up from the couch, “Look I need to go—“ He pointed to the door, “Take a break from security detail, I’ll come back and get her for her last class and you and I can chat okay?”

“Fine.” I watched him leave. Nervousness making a damn hole in my stomach. I walked Trace over to the couch.

Her eyes were glued to my bare stomach.

“Not my face, Trace.” I tilted her chin up. She blushed and then closed her eyes.

    “That was embarrassing.”

“Not for me.” I grinned, “Now, stop objectifying, and tell me what happened in class.”

For the next five minutes I was given a play by play of the entire scenario between Chase and Trace.

It took me exactly five seconds to decide that I was going to murder him on the spot for putting her in that position. Ten seconds after that, I was feeling such insane jealousy that his body was pressed against hers, I almost grabbed my gun and took off after him.

“So….” Trace shrugged, “Chase gave me some tough love, said to buck up, and I did it. I actually pinned him to the ground.”

I snorted. “I’m sure he loved that.”

“What?” Trace tilted her head. Was she really that clueless?

“Do you really have no idea?” I tucked some of her dark hair behind her ear and sighed, “No idea at all?”

“Idea? Help me out Nixon, I don’t speak crazy.”

Cursing, I pulled her into my lap and wrapped her legs around my waist so her body was pressed against mine. “You. Are. Gorgeous.”

I braced her hips with my hands and slowly moved them up as I looked at her perfect body as it fit like a missing piece to my puzzle. “Any guy would be an idiot not to be having a problem keeping it in his pants around you, Trace. And that’s the truth.”

“You don’t seem to have a problem with it?” She winked.

I growled and jerked her head towards mine, crushing my lips against hers. I slipped my tongue past the barrier of her lips and promised myself she’d forget Chase even touched her today. “Right,” I growled low in the back of my throat, “No problem whatsoever, I’m basically a saint.” I brought her hands down the front of my chest and lower to my jeans. “You need to know one thing, sweetheart.”

“What?” Her hands froze on my abs.

“I would kill my own cousin.”

“What?” Her expression turned horrified as her eyes widned and mouth dropped open.

“I would.” I shrugged, “Because he knows you aren’t his to touch, you aren’t his to want.”

“And I’m yours?” Oh great now I’ve pissed her off.

I gripped her face between my hands and kissed her mouth softly, “Yes. Whether you like it or not, we belong to each other. I’m as much yours as you are mine—I don’t share. I want to freaking murder anyone who even as much as looks in your direction, or at your shoes, and damn if I don’t hate those boots that Chase got you. I want to consume you. I want to be the one that puts a smile on your face. I want to be the one that teaches you pleasure—me. Not anyone else. Sharing you—even by way of my cousin who I trust more than anyone in the world—has to be one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.”

I don't think I've ever changed books on my Kindle as fast as I went from Elite to this one. The second I read the last sentence of that I was racing to get to this book and find out what RVD was going to do next.

I had heard there was going to be a love triangle involved in the story, and then I figured that out on my own from reading Elite, so I was nervous to see how exactly that would play out. Triangles are far from my favorite thing and there has been multiple books I've avoided because of that, but with these characters is was actually okay. I never got annoyed with them, and there wasn't even really a lot of drama that surrounded them because of the relationship, which I was very thankful for.

I still really enjoyed getting more from these characters, though even by the end of this book I still can't say that I like Trace. But her story and her relationship with Nixon was definitely intriguing and had me sucked into their book. I will definitely not be waiting to read the rest of the series but will probably take a little break from it just because this seems like a good place to stop and catch up on some arc's.

So I'm the type of reader that hates love triangles, because someone is always bound to get hurt. There's no question about whether or not this book is a love triangle. We have two heroes who are both in love with the heroine and a heroine who's not so sure who she love more than the other. I despised Trace in this book for absolutely no reason, because I felt she should be loyal to Nixon. But the events that happened in this book made for an extremely difficult situation. So while I felt Trace should be with Nixon, Chase was probably the best choice. But... I felt like Chase and Trace weren't meant for each other, even though I prefer Chase to Nixon.

This is why I don't read love triangles, people!

    My favourite character

About the story, along with some thoughts and quotes
    ____________________________________________

So Elect is the continuation of Nixon, Trace and Chase's story from Elite. Nixon and Trace are hopelessly in love, but there are threats that could be fatal for Trace. The Sicilians, the original mafia family have received some very important information, that could lead to the death and destruction of the Abandonato's. Because of this Trace's life is at risk by association. To protect her, Chase comes up with a plan, he'll pose as her boyfriend so that she doesn't get hurt. I honestly don't think Chase did this so he could have a chance to be with Trace. But I do believe that he realised his advantage afterward.

Nixon and Trace cannot be seen together, so for all intents and purposes Chase and Trace have to act like they are in love. Nixon is selfless in this book, because he lets go of Trace to protect her even though it kills him.

"I'm as much yours as you are mine-I don't share. I want to freaking murder anyone who even so much as looks in your direction, or at your shoes, and damn if I don't hate those boots that Chase got you. I want to consume you. I want to be the one that puts a smile on your face. I want to be the one that teaches you pleasure-me.

And even though Trace is loathe to do it, she agrees. She'll play the part of Chase's girlfriend even if it kills her. Her love and trust in Nixon is strong, but Chase is a great guy and she'll be spending more time with him. Chase is Trace's best friend, and he loves her. This was a recipe for heartbreak!

"Nixon." She placed her hands against my chest. "I need you to do me a favor."
"Anything." My voice was hoarse with emotion.
"Trust me. Trust in us. No matter what I say, no matter what I do-and I'll do some terrible things-know that I love you. No matter what.

And things got really difficult, I mean dangerous. This was quite frankly the best YA Mafia Romance that I've read in a while. Nixon came to a point where he realised he might just have to let go for good, but he wouldn't be Nixon if he did.

Maybe if I was a stronger man, I'd leave her and suffer alone. maybe if I was the type of guy who put others first I would walk away from her.
But she was my weakness. I'd make it two steps before turning around and begging her on my knees for her to take me back. Which meant I had to trust in us. I had to trust in her.

Nice save. Elite was borderline awful but Elect was fantastic. My feels were all over the place, and I love it when that happens!

This is book two out of Rachel Van Dyken's series, and my attention is caught! The first book was an ok read for me; but Elect captured me, and I am now a huge fan of this series! There were so many secrets that began to surface in this story, and so many questions that I had. A love triangle did develop, and I can honestly that usually I do not enjoy any story with a love triangle in it; but with everything going on, it was impossible not like the book anyway. Seeing as this is an ongoing series, there isn't a lot of details I want to say, as I would hate to ruin any part of the storyline for readers. The most that I will say is that this is a must read series. If you are interested in mafia storyline's, then this is a series you need to read.

I will expand my review at a later date; but I am definitely continuing on to the next book in the series!

The story kills off perfectly from Elite, but somewhere all the way I don't know where to fit the prologue in... Hmmm

Nixon comes to face to face all this challenges and is near in answering all the questions he needed an answer. But he has to make a sacrifice by underplaying his love.

Well, there is Chase, of course, who loves Tracey too and acts as her bodyguard!!!

    How can they survive this?

Chase and Nixon, both you of are so charming!!!

Tracey, on the hand, needed a kick!!! I just felt she made her love cheap and shakes head......no words from me! I feel like shouting 'use your brains not hormones"!

Let's forget Tracey, this book was such a brilliant read!! The action and the answers we need are answered! The things that people do to keep their family safe!

1 - I HATE LOVE TRIANGLES WITH THE FIRE OF 1000 SUNS - Stars

An accurate gif of me after finishing this book:

I went into this book knowing there was a love triangle - meaning I knew that Chase, the cousin and best friend, had feelings for Trace. What I did not know is that by the end of the book, she would also have feelings for Chase and would in fact, CHOOSE CHASE OVER NIXON, PUTTING HIM FIRST. Yes, yes, she thought Nixon was dead but this was 2 FUCKING DAYS LATER!!!!!!!! She's all lovey dovey with Chase, kissing on him, etc., 2 days after the love of her life died? No. I don't think so.

Basically, Nixon has to have Chase pretend to be Trace's boyfriend to protect her from the Sicilians, thinking they will kill her if they know she belongs to Nixon. Chase, meanwhile is in love with Trace and wishes she was his. Trace, at this point is clueless about Chase's feelings (but oh, once he admits the truth to her, she miraculously feels the same (this is after Nixon's "death" but Chase knew he was still alive. (RAGE, RAGE, RAGE)

I hate love triangles with a passion and as stated I knew this was one going in but I honestly thought it was all one sided. Nope.

I may have been able to get past all of it (probably not though) if this line hadn't been said. This killed it for me. Nope. Nope. Nope.

“Chase.” She pulled away and wiped a tear from her eye. “You have my heart, but Nixon… he owns my soul.”

I'm sorry what? How does one own her heart and the other owns her soul? Nope, don't buy it. Won't buy it. Won't accept it.

In all honesty, Nixon was the best person in this book. He was a major asshole in the last book but this one, in this one, he was nothing like his character from Elite. He loved Trace with everything in him and was even willing to give her up to Chase, if that is what she wanted. (While Chase on the other hand wanted Trace to pick him, wanted her for himself).

I walked out of the room and didn’t look back. I couldn’t. I knew if I did I would either fall to my knees and apologize for being so harsh, or cry for the first time since I was twelve. I’d just singlehandedly given the love of my life to my best friend—on a silver platter, with a shiny bow attached. And I didn’t care if I died, but if Trace died? Because of me? Because of my pride and inability to get over myself? I would pray for death. So if it meant I had to give up the only thing that I was living for? It would be worth it. If she was safe. It would be worth it. I repeated that to myself for the rest of the night, and when Trace came home and said nothing over dinner. I said it again, and again, and when I opened that bottle of whiskey and sat in my room, I said it again. Until I passed out.

I truly believed that the greatest sacrifice someone could make in life was putting someone else’s needs before your own wants and desires. Loving someone with such a passion that you’d suffer the rest of your life just so you could see them smile. You’d go to hell and back—if only it meant keeping them safe.

It’s her, it’s always been her, it’s about her. Hell if I’m going to sit here and throw a fit for wanting something that doesn’t want me back. She loves you? Fine. Because, Chase. It’s never been about my wants or my needs. I can’t live if she’s unhappy. I can’t breathe if she’s upset. If being with you brings her that peace, then I want you to have her. I’ll be your best man at the wedding. I’ll babysit your kids when you want date night. Chase—” I swallowed the emotion in my throat and shook my head. “It’s about her.”

    Trace doesn't deserve Nixon.

From all the reviews, it looks like people really loved this book but I hated it. Which sucks because I like Rachel Van Dyken. I loved The Matchmaker's Playbook. That had a bit of a "love-triangle" but it went nowhere.

Right now I can't even think bout reading Chase's book, which is right after this one. This book had his POV as well and it was always about Trace and how she was the love of his life, yada, yada, yada. Then all of a sudden he's going to fall in love with Mil? His first? OK. I'll wait.

For people who have read this series, are there any more love triangles in the rest of the books because if there are HARD. PASS.

Now excuse me while I go find a book that pukes rainbows and unicorns. I need something to get this hell out of my mind.

ETA: She does choose Nixon in the end but again, like I said, she didn't deserve him. But, oh he owns her soul. Ugh.

    "Every Saint has a past,
    every sinner has a future..."
    ******************

And that was the reason that it took me three years to finally read the second book of the "Eagle Elite" series!!!! I knew that this would happen and i didn't like it!!!! Nopeeeeee.....
But damn it, Mrs. Van Dyken is giving us more and more books of these people and i want to learn everyone's story so badly...
So, i put my big girl's pants and i dove in.... and it was both heaven and hell!!!! Bahahaha...

Rachel Van Dyken knows how to write wonderful stories full of action and suspense... The pace in here was so quick that sometimes, i was trying hard to catch up with the plot, but i loved it!!!!
So why the low rating???? The romance frustrated the hell out of me...
I really love all the characters in here and i want them all to find their HEA, but what happened here sucked!!!!

    “Right. I'm fine, you're fine, everything's fine.
Oh, look, I think a rainbow's sprouting out of your ass.”

Well, as we know from the first book, after Tracy lived a hell by the elite, she find the love of her life in the face of their captain, who happened to be the mafia boss, Nixon Abandonato!!!!
(God, i love this guy!!!! Anyway...)
But now, after everything they went through in the first book, Nixon realizes that because of him, Tracy will be a target too, so because of that, he is deciding to push her away and into the hands of his best friend, Chase!!!!
(Damn it!!! I love Chase, but no... this is not right!!!)
So, as you can understand, the situation was a mess.... and i was angry about that!!!!

    “I'd just single handedly given the love of my life to my best friend - on a silver platter, with a shiny bow attached.” {Nixon}

    “We'd sit. we'd eat. And I'd pretend that I wasn't in irreversible love with his girlfriend. No.Big.Deal.” {Chase}

Neither of them deserved what they went through.... because they were good persons....
My heart was breaking for Nixon, because he had to take a hard decision, but what he did wasn't right!!!! Yep, he was selfless and he was thinking only Trace, but he didn't hurt only himself with his decisions, but also Chase....
Chase from the other hand was too in love with Grace.... Hello, why are you doing this to yourself???
And even though that in his heart he really knows what is really happening, he is hurting himself more and he is becoming very selfish....
The truth is that I'm dying to see Chase with Mil!!!! I loved this girl!!!
And then Tracey made a big mess!!!! Yep, she was loving so much Nixon, but damn, she forgot so easily!!!! It wasn't right!!!! Big mistake to get confused....
    Phew!!!! See??? Big frustration here!!!!

    “I wouldn’t take away one moment with you. I wouldn’t take away my decision to leave you, because in the end, it was the right thing to do. I will always save you. You need to know that… I will always choose you over me. Even if that means walking away, even if that means letting you and Chase be together. Trace, if it means that for the rest of my life all I have to live off of are the memories of your kiss? I would do it. Because it’s never been about me, but you and what I can do for you.” {Nixon}

    “I hurt all the damn time because my stupid heart has decided for one reason or another that it can't survive without being next to yours.” {Chase}

Anyway.... This book was written by three male POVs.... Nixon's, Chase's and Phoenix's....
And i have to say that even i hated Phoenix in the first book, I kinda liked him in here and i want his story so badly...
I'm also very curious about the end here.... It didn't actually happened, right???
No, i won't tell you what i mean, but if you have already read this book, you will definitely understand....
And now, slowly, but steady, i will continue with the nexts books, because i'm too curious for my own good!!!! LOL

"When facing death -every human being needed something that, if the worst happened- would pull them through.
And maybe that's why i was beginning to feel more terrified than anything -because I knew- I had nobody worth pulling for, and it hurt like hell."
    {Phoenix}

    *******************************
    “I feel lost.”
    “Let me find you.”
    “I feel sick.”
    “Let me heal you.”
    I kissed her head.
    “I feel sad.”
    “Let me be your happiness.”

5 "Star-Crossed Lovers" stars for the story and 4 stars for the narration!

This mafia new adult series, which will also appeal to YA romance lovers, keeps getting better and better! So many secrets, so many intersecting past connections and the need to fulfill the most basest of human nature needs--to find true love and acceptance--among the chaos of this dangerous, power hungry, mafia world. Amid all this danger, who will succeed in finding their HEA?

When you're the head of your mafia family, anyone you love becomes a primary target. Nixon Abandonato has learned this the hard way: by finally capitulating to his feelings for Tracey Rooks, the granddaughter of the boss of his family's biggest mafia rival. Tracey too has made her decision, and it's Nixon who she wants to be with.

We don't always get what we want however, and mafia members, in particular, are raised to do their duty even when they would rather not to. In this case, it means Nixon and Tracey are required to conceal their true feelings for one another. Perhaps, even worse, Tracey is forced into the more than welcoming arms of Chase, Nixon's cousin and the closest thing he has to a true brother. Chase too has feelings for Tracey, and he finally has his chance to make her his. Who will Tracey ultimately decide her heart belongs to, and irrespective of her heart's desires, will she have the luxury of determining who she wants to spend the rest of her life with?

Moreover, the Eagle Elite series is about more than just romance. Mixed in with this emotional love triangle is a tale of betrayal and family secrets that lead to an action-packed, suspense-filled journey. In fact, in Elect we learn a lot about a whole cast of other characters, who will no doubt form the basis for plenty of exciting Eagle Elite tales to come!

This was my first experience with Douglas Berger, who provides the narration for Elect. Mr. Berger does a good job of accurately conveying the fast-paced action, and plentiful emotions in Elect. Additionally, his voice is well suited for the Young Adult/New Adult sound of many of the characters who play important roles in Elect.

Mr. Berger excels in the characterization of the male roles. Perhaps my favorite part of his performance is Nixon. You accurately get the sense of Nixon's position of authority and privileged upbringing from his depiction. Additionally the angst of Nixon's conflict between wanting to protect Tracey, even if it means that she is safer without him, and wanting to keep her for himself, drips convincingly from his voice.

Perhaps my only observation with respect to the narration is that I wish there had been a greater differentiation among the characters, particularly the females. Although it did take me a while to warm up to the differences in Mr. Berger's inflection between the parts that he narrated for Nixon, Chase and the whole host of other male characters, I did eventually get accustomed to it and did not need to generally rely on dialogue tags. I did, however, have a little more trouble differentiating the parts played by the women in this book. All that said, this effect generally didn't affect the performance too much as there were very few parts in which more than one female character was involved in the same dialogue.

All in all, I think Elect is an engaging, entertaining mafia romance that will appeal to lovers of young adult and new adult romantic suspense titles. Moreover, the audiobook sports a slightly above narration, making this a decent choice to select in audiobook format.

I can't wait to listen to more of this fascinating epic, mafia saga in Book 3, Entice!

I loved Elite, so I couldn’t wait to jump in with Elect, but the moment I read the prologue, (which I soon found out it was a chapter towards the end of the book) I became very upset.

Here’s the thing with me, I do not like reading the ending at the beginning of the book. I wish authors would put a warning and say “HEY GUYS! I put the ending right here, to get you hooked and maybe indirectly piss you off”

Then I wouldn’t be so upset every time I come across that. So I got upset and put it off for a few days. I read a few books in between and finally I got my mind back on track and said to myself, “Oh Jacqueline, put on some big girl pants and just read the book”

And I did and it wasn’t what I expected.

Another thing about me, I do not like love triangles, BUT I am warming up to them. I use to not read them unless I didn’t know about it, but I knew there would be a love triangle going into this. Another another thing, I do not like love triangles between two great guys. It just kills me that two great guys love one girl, is this even realistic? I don’t know, I’ve never been in the situation where I loved two men at once, but what do I know.

So Elect starts off where Elite ended. We know that Chase and Nixon love Tracey. We know there’s plenty of stuff going on with the families. What I LOVED most about this second book is all the SECRETS! I actually understood and loved unraveling all the mysteries. I usually don’t like the side plot (basically anything that doesn’t deal with the romance side of the book), but I really really really enjoyed learning the family histories and seeing how everyone was intertwined.

There are a few chapters with Phoenix’s POV and I would be upset with this b/c really? However, it was interesting to see how he became how he is today. Also, the chapters were so short, I didn’t really mind.

I enjoyed how it was just a Chase and Nixon (mainly) POV read. I love Chase and Nixon both in their own ways. If Tracey got with either of them, I would have been happy (usually I root for one person, but really you will love both).

Oh the PAIN CHASE FEELS! Gah, it was crushing, sometimes when I was reading a scene I thought to myself, oh man, can’t this guy love me?! I mean, seriously, how sweet he can be, how insane this requited love is! Then there’s Nixon, Mr. Mob boss who has so much to deal with!!! I really liked the story line. It puts Tracey in a difficult situation and you really understand the depths of how much these two boys love her.

Then we get to the ENDING. THIS IS A HUGE OPEN CLIFFY. Some may disagree and say it’s closed, I will say, nope. I can’t believe it ended like that and I need the next book! GAH, it’s killing me.

Elect is very different than Elite, it’s more dark, it’s more interrelated and it has more Chase. It’s nothing to complain about really.

Ok so here goes. It picks up where we left off after Elite.
The Sicilians are coming! Scary Sicilians. The mystery still exists who killed Trace's parents and what the hell are they going to do.

This book is in 3 peoples point of view, Nixon, Chase, and Phoenix. Yes I said Phoenix. You think you know his whole thing, but you don't and I came to love his voice.

So, You still have the story line of two guys in love with the same girl

stefan and elena photo: Stefan, Elena, and Damon StefanElenaandDamon.jpg

But Nixon and Trace are together. Romeo and Juliet. They are scared but they have each other. Until threats against her are made and Chase makes a decision and blurts out that Trace and He are together. So they have to pretend to be a couple to save everyone's lives and give time for Nixon and company to figure out who killed her parent's.

Chase is all like, "Oh no I can't I would never betray him by actually taking his girl"
Then he is all like "I love her, I want her to choose me, I need her."

    Then Tragedy

stefan and elena photo: Elena and Stefan ewwew.jpg

Or so you would think.. I called this a mile away.. But I won't spoil it.

Trace did get on my nerves, she needed to believe in Nixon, but Chase was always there for her so in her sorrow she starts to feel more towards Chase.

    damon and elena photo: kiss2.gif

Things come to light, hidden plans at work, After everything has been resolved the choice is finally made.

    BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE!

The love triangle thing is done, Not that Trace knew but it was a matter of ME, ME, ME, VS You,YOU, YOU. but all the boss's have to clean up the mess a certain family has caused so there will be more, and a two more character's I think will have there own little love story too.

I liked it alot, Nixon was the sweetest man on the planet. Purely Selfless, I fell in love with him

Chase, you got on my nerves.

Trace, Meh, I wouldn't have done all you did, or felt the way you prob felt but you did good.

Best quote "When I wake up in the morning.. I don't think, wow, how can i make her love me more? How can i have my way with her? I, I, I? Not in my vocabulary. In fact. I'm a big fan of the letter U. I eat, I think of you. I drink, I drink to you. I cry, so you don't have to. I die, for you to live. And i'd survive with a broken heart only if it meant mending yours." -Nixon..

    Seriously I love that man!

Ah damn, this book! I love Nixon, love-hate Chase, and hate Trace. That order, lol.

The Unofficial Addiction Book Fan Club's Review:

    Review:

Rachel Van Dyken made me love Eagle Elite in the first book, but in this second book I totally adore it!
Elect is even funnier, hotter, messier, more romantic and with more mafia style than the first book, and what makes it even more irresistible is the love triangle going on between Nixon, Tracey and Chase in order to keep Tracey safe. I had high hopes when I started reading this book, and Rachel Van Dyken did not disappoint me.
Elect picks up right where Elite finished. The war between families that started in the first book is still ongoing and now they also have the visit of what we could call the original mafia family. Also, in this story, Nixon sacrifices everything for the love of his life: Tracey. And in order to keep her safe, he leaves her with his cousin, the other boy that is in love with Tracey.
It was the best, hottest and most difficult love triangle I ever read about. Nixon seems to be the perfect fit for Tracey. He's bossy, only follows his own rules and would be the perfect definition of bad and dangerous boy. While Chase, is more softer than Nixon. He can be categorized in the good boy section. All taking into account that we are in the middle of a mafia war and the boys are part of a mafia family.
But how can you not fall for the bad boy who's risking everything, even his own life, in order to save you? And how can you not fall for the boy who's been there all the time and that seems that he would die for you, too, even if he knows that your heart belongs to his cousin?
Yes, it was difficult to decide between these two badass boys. But I think that I love a little bit more Chase. Rachel made me want him even more! Nixon sacrifices all, but Chase, too. In a different way since he's not the boss, but he'd also die for Tracey even when he knows she belongs to Nixon. Is all so heartbreaking!
The plot was simply amazing. Well built and leaving nothing behind, there's more action in this story than in the first one and we get to see new characters, too. And, as I said before, the love triangle between Nixon, Tracey and Chase thickens.
This story made me smile, cry, gasp and I simply couldn't stop reading. Full of unexpected turns and dangerous situations, a Shakespearean touch of impossible love, lots of hot, badass boys, redemption, suspense, drama, romance and betrayal. All with a mafia touch that made me love this book from the very first page until the end. It simply captivated me and made me crave for more! So I'm definitely waiting, anxiously, for the next two books: Entice and Elicit.

Love-triangle or not but there’s more to them. Let me say that this was one that I could tolerate and I liked it. I love how each POV consists of Chase and Nixon's feelings for Trace. Overall the story is good definitely worth a read.

Book 2! Flew right through this one too.. I will type up a review as soon as I'm not henpecking on this blasted little screen. LOL; still quite enjoying it!!!

Her body slumped against mine. “I feel lost.”
“Let me find you.”“I feel sick.”
“Let me heal you.” I kissed her head.
    “I feel sad.”
    “Let me be your happiness.”

“When I wake up in the morning… I don’t think, wow, how can I make her love
me more? How can I have my way with her? I, I, I? Not in my vocabulary. In fact,
I’m a big fan of the letter u. I eat, I think of you. I drink, I drink to you. I cry, so you
don’t have to. I’d die, for you to live. And I’d survive with a broken heart only if it
    meant mending yours.”

    "Besides, romance isn’t
something you work at—not when you find the right girl. When you fall in love,
when you take that leap, it’s as natural as breathing; it’s as simple as that. I’m romantic
because my heart demands I be nothing less than one hundred percent, for you, day
    and night.”

loved first book but didnt even like this one. :(

Book 1 in this series was a 5 star read for me. I'm saddened to say I feel generous giving book 2 a two star rating. I just found it to be overly repetitious and dull at times. I was bored with this read and it lacked the intensity and passion previous book in series had. The love triangle was extremely tiresome. This story just didn't work for me personally. It felt very juvenile and I will not continue this series.

  • Quinn's Quippy Quotes

    1. Called it
    2. I really could've gone without all the back and forth between Nixon and Chance dilemma
    3. The whole 'secret' was just a little underwhelming.

With that said, RVD creates such addicting storylines. There's so many more things I want to know now, starting with Chase and Mil!!!!

    The series binge continues.

  • Dark Faerie Tales

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales

Quick & Dirty: Fantastic sequel with even more action, mystery, and steamy romance. This is one of my favorite new adult series.

Opening Sentence: I hid in the shadows hoping he wouldn’t see me as he hit Ma again.

    The Review:

Nixon Abandonato has had to sacrifice a lot to honor his family. He has made a lot of enemies throughout the years and everyone he cares about is a liability. Tracey is the girl of his dreams, but being with him is dangerous. If the wrong people find out how he feels, they will use her to hurt him. He loves her more than anything, so he will do whatever he has to do to keep her safe, even if that means saying goodbye.

Chase is supposed to be Tracey’s bodyguard. Nixon is not only his cousin but his best friend in the whole world. They grew up together and have been inseparable since they were kids, and he would do anything for Nixon. So of course he will protect the girl Nix loves, but there is one big problem — Chase is falling in love with her too. Then Tracey’s life is threatened, and the only way to protect her is to pretend that she is Chase’s girlfriend. Chase was already hanging by a thread, and now he’s not sure how he’s going to stop himself from completely falling.

The story alternated between Nixon and Chase’s POV. Because you get to be inside Nixon’s head you get to know him so much better. He had a rough childhood, but he was born to be a leader. Even at such a young age his presence demands respect and he has earned it. He has always been selfless and did what was best for his family. You really get to see how far he will go to protect the people he loves. Honestly, I fell even more in love with Nixon. His strength and honor made me admire him. Also, the fact that he is drop dead gorgeous helps too. He is an amazing character and has become one of my favorite book boys.

Getting to know Chase better was also fun. He is a laid back kind of guy and much less serious than Nixon. He really knows how to lighten the mood and make you laugh. But he also is dangerous and not someone you want to mess with. He has a great sense of loyalty and it is sad to see him so torn up about how he feels about Trace. He really cared about Tracey and in some ways he is actually a much better match for her. I really loved Chase, and honestly I can’t wait to see what happens next for him the next book.

Elect was very different from its predecessor. There was more violence and being inside the guys head made the tone of the book much more masculine. I did miss Tracey’s voice at times, but I loved seeing everything through the guys eyes. I find the setting and idea for this story so fascinating and unique. In a way you are cheering for modern day villains since the hero’s are all part of the mafia, but I totally loved that. Dyken really knows how to surprise you and captivate you with her writing. I would think I had the whole thing figured out, then she would throw in a twist that would make me rethink everything. I love everything about this series and it has become one of my favorite new adult series ever. There is a slight cliffhanger at the end, so I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book. I would highly recommend this to anyone that is looking for a great new adult book, it will not disappoint.

    Notable Scene:

It was Trace’s favorite tattoo, even though I had several down my left arm and a few on my stomach and back. Her favorite had always been that one, on the left side of my chest. She said it gave her comfort. I guess she was using it for comfort right now.

“Okay,” she whispered, “I’ll do it.”

I was waiting to feel relieved, but all I felt was tense. My muscles literally tightened underneath her touch the minute the word “okay” had fallen from her perfectly pouted lips.

“I’m going to apologize in advance, though.” Tracey sniffed as a tear ran down her cheek.

    “Why are you apologizing?”

Her eyes met mine. “Because I’m going to break your heart.”

FTC Advisory: Forever/Grand Central Publishing/Hachette Book Group provided me with a copy of Elect. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

    FTB WARNING

It’s been almost 2 years. I’m still bitter. I lowered my rating lol (side note- I wrote this review almost 2 years ago. Not bad Sonia lol).

So this book continues from book 1 where we met the gang and basically start seeing a love triangle form between Trace, Chase and Nixon. Can I say how much I love these men??? This book is told in alternating male points of view, which is great because we didn’t see that in book 1. The caveat here is that we don’t get to see/hear/feel what’s going on in Trace’s mind and emotions concerning both of them.

In order to keep Trace safe, she and Chase need to pretend to be a couple while Nixon pretends to not have any feelings for her. Phoenix makes an appearance and basically knows something that is incredibly important but can’t reveal what it is. There are so many intricate plot points that need to unfold in order to figure out details of all of their pasts as well as the direction of their futures. We see a few new characters and they end up being imperative to what needs to happen.

I have to say, the moments where Chase and Trace were physical (not sex) were just as chemistry-filled as the scenes with Trace and Nixon. I felt a little bit (ugh just a little because honestly I was totally feeling Chase ) guilty that I was kind of into Chase and Trace 😬😳. I mean, Rachel does an amazing job at writing them together! I felt Chase’s conflicts, his sense of betrayal, just as I felt Nixon’s as well because he pushed for this to happen in order to keep Trace safe. That’s why I loved the male perspective in the book! We even got to see what was going on in Phoenix’s mind- who was a character I hated in book 1.

Now spoiler alert (don’t read this if you don’t want to know why I took half a point away)- I was so mad that we didn’t get to see Trace and Nixon be intimate!!! I mean, come on! We’ve been waiting for over a book to see it FINALLY happen, we are completely invested in these characters, and then it happens, but we see NOTHING. I kept hoping, and praying, that MAYBE we would get it later in the book as part of like a flashback... but NO! We didn’t 😡. I was so disappointed. I know I shouldn’t be so harsh and take half a point off the book, but I couldn’t help to be that vexed at not seeing this surmountable moment in not only Trace’s life, but Nixon’s too. He’s loved her HIS ENTIRE LIFE! Ugh.... end of my kind-of spoiler....

Overall, such a great book... I honestly can’t wait until I get into book 3. I hope I get to see what is REALLY going on with Chase and Mil... I can’t wait!

    Elect
    Eagle Elite Book 2

Warning: This book evokes extreme emotions. Readers have been known to scream, laugh, and cry. It is recommended to read with a stress ball and tissues, probably a bottle of wine too.

I was privileged enough to receive an ARC of Elect, in return for an honest review.

When I read Elect, there were four words that came to mind.

Hot. This book was amazingly hot, Rachel Van Dyken Turned. Up. The Steam. With the love chemistry, the Mafia, the tension, the angst you will need a fan to keep cool & calm. Trace and Nixon, and Chase are back for round two but this time the Sicilians are joining in the fight and the consequences will cost blood. To save a life, lives must be sacrificed. The need to gain answers to the questions of Elite, and some new ones is urgent.

Urgent. You URGENTLY need to buy this book, and read it. It is a mad dash for survival to get the answers to questions, solve the mystery, and get the Sicilians out of there before everyone is dead. You will be flipping pages as fast as possible, on the edge of your seat every second, wondering how it is even possible that Rachel Van Dyken has turned you into a total nut job with her amazing talent of writing and they scramble to hide their weakness to survive.

Weakness. You aren’t even sure who to root for. Teams be damned when you read Elect. Chase, Nixon, Tex, Trace, Mo, and even some people you’d never thought you’d pray for are back. Their weakness can cost them their life, or worse, that of the one they love. It takes everyone together to conceal the truths and make it to the end. Rachel Van Dyken, lets you in on their weakness enough that you feel the desperation and vulnerability.

Desperation. This book will have you on your knees praying for the characters you know and love. Clinging to every ounce of hope as everyone is just trying to make it out of this alive. Betrayal. Death. Love. Everything is on the line in this fast-paced, action packet, gut wrenching read.

Rachel Van Dyken. BRAVO! Five Stars doesn’t even begin to cover the EPICNESS of this novel! My jaw was on the floor through most, I think I have a bald spot from pulling my hair out, I went through a box of tissues, and am probably on a psych team watch list!

If you haven’t picked up Elite yet, grab it now because Dec 10, 2013 your life will CHANGE with Elect!

I was super excited when I saw this on netgalley! Honestly can Nixon be more perfect? Yeah no! Omg he was amazing! I really really enjoyed Chase , but I felt like there was something missing with him. I enjoyed the rivalry between them but let me be honest and say at times it kinda got annoying. I loved both books but I have to be honest. Trace, was funny, shy, and most of all so in love with Nixon. Nixon, was amazing, caring, hot, sexy, thoughtful, selfless, lovable, alpha and amazing (yes I love him) sometimes I did feel like Chase took over and Nixon was in the background more.. Overall this series has been amazing for me. When I first read Elite was not a big fan of Nixon. I was more of a Chase fan.. But in Elect I'm all Team Nixon!

"When I wake up in the morning...I don't think, wow, how can I make her love me more? How can I have way with her? I, I, I? Not in my vocabulary. In fact, I'm a big fan of the letter u. I eat, I think of you. I drink, I drink to you. I cry, so you don't have to. I'd die for you to live. And I'd survive a broken heart only of it meant mending yours."

"And how does she look at Chase?"
Like he's her savior," Phoenix said softly. "And me?"
    "Like your her oxygen."

The 2nd full size novel of the Eagle Elite series - this is basically the 2nd half of Nixon and Trace's story. And like all good big series' you get a full dose of all the other characters as well, slowly setting them up for future books!!

Elect was actually quite heavy on the mystery, it had my full attention trying to figure out who did what, who betrayed? who was with them or against them? This was still quite a mix of Young adults mixed with adult type scenarios, I can't wait for these guys to actually mature just a bit. The romance part, or the love triangle I should say - is my least favorite kind of story line EVER. The "I have to give her up to someone else to save her" story line. BUT, even though it was not my favorite way to date, I actually still really enjoyed this book - so on to the next!!!

Do not read this book unless you have read "Elite (Eagle Elite #1)." This is a continuing story therefore "Elect" cannot be read as a standalone.

Well, it was all going on in this story. Secrets were uncovered, lies were told, a love triangle began and it wouldn't be a Mafia story without a huge amount of violence. "Elect" began with a prologue that almost brought on a panic attack. I was then transported back in time to discover what had happened after "Elite" had finished. This book was mainly focused on Tracey and Nixon's continued relationship which in turn set off a whole heap of problems involving the Mafia families. As you can imagine this story was non-stop action and I was biting my nails throughout the majority of the story, wondering what was going to happen and at the same trying to make sense of what had happened in the prologue. I was feeling so worried for Nixon and Tracey's future.

My life would never be safe. Our existence together would never be a for-sure thing. Death was my daily reality; it was my burden, not hers and not chase's. Maybe if I was a stronger man, I'd leave her.
As well as all of the trouble that was going on, there was also the love triangle that was developing between Trace, Nixon and Chase. I was not at all surprised to see that this was happening. I suspected the story was heading this way after reading "Elite". Lucky Trace, two alpha Mafia men falling head over heels in love with her! Actually, Trace was anything but lucky with all of the drama that surrounded her. Things were getting more and more frightening as the story went on. Now, going back to the love triangle, I was a little angry with how Trace dealt with the two men, especially Chase. Trace appeared to be so sweet and innocent, but surely she wasn't so naive as to realise what she was doing and what her actions were doing to both Nixon and Chase. I felt so sorry for Chase, but at the same time I was also rooting for Nixon to get the girl. I was Team Nixon all of the way!
"Just because you're blood doesn't mean I would hesitate to pull this trigger, my love for Tracey trumps my love for you-always."

As this book was written from either Nixon, Chase or Phoenix's POV I felt that I got to know these characters really well. During the story a lot of the attention was on Pheonix so I discovered his true thoughts and feelings as I read about his past and how he came to make the decisions that he had made. I felt so sad with how his life had turned out and I found myself wishing that Phoenix would be given a happy ending. My heart truly went out to him.
"Every human being needed something that, if the worst happened-would pull them through. And maybe that's why I was beginning to feel more terrified than anything-because I knew-I had nobody worth pulling for, and it hurt like hell."

I'm enjoying getting to know the many members of the Mafia family as the series progresses, although sometimes I had to stop and think who was related to who! LOL. I am a big fan of Mafia books so I am definitely going to continue with this series. Now that I have been introduced to so many characters, I want to know what the future holds for each and every one of them.

"Elect (Eagle Elite #2)" gets ❤️❤️❤️❤️ from me!

  • Roxanne

Honestly? This book was a big disappointment. After a strong book like Elite was, I expected a hell of a lot more from Elect and the last thing I wanted was a lame teenage love triangle.

The dual POV made it hard to like Chase when you knew how Nixon was suffering on the side. Also can we talk about this? Why make a book that was suppose to be Nixon/Tracey but felt a whole lot like the author wanted us to ship Chase/Tracey? I couldn't give a crap about them together! This old cliché of the guy falling for his bestfriend's girlfriend and having to protect her because the bestfriend couldn't, it's very effing old and very effing irritating.

Also the fact that Tracey seemed pretty much ready to get with Chase DAYS after she learned that Nixon was dead? Yeah, that didn't make me like her much. They were constantly kissing and being touchy-feely while her boyfriend just died DAYS BEFORE so excuse me if I really don't that poor Tracey felt heartbroken when she found out that daaaaaaamn the dead boyfriend? Wasn't actually dead! She acted like she was angry that he was alive and felt guilty that the heartbroken widow acted was drop very quickly after the funeral.

And don't even start me on how she decided to chose Chase but then the second Nixon pulled a Jesus and come back she wants him. She dropped Chase on his ass, make a very Bella Swan tantrum and then randomly started smooching Nixon and flirting.

Nixon was a dumbass. I know I know that he pushed them together but I would be damn piss if my partner was so easily willing to play pretend and so easily accepted my death and told my bestfriend that they chose them over me not even a week after my funeral.

That frustrating and juvenile plot aside, the book had moments that felt way too long and only fillings and that made me skip pages. I skipped a few Chase's chapters because they were just empty aside the whole Chase/Tracey farce.
After this? I couldn't care less about Chase's book or even novella about Nixon/Tracey cause after this ridiculous and frustrating love triangle? I don't believe in their relationship at all. Getting Chase is girl won't make the main couple seem believable to me. To me, what Tracey did was cheating. She deeply emotionally cheated on Nixon and blamed him for it and for that? I couldn't care less about her and her feelings or Chase and his second choice girlfriend or Nixon and his hero complex.
This book had a lot of killing but the worse of it was the death of a great couple for the sack of a cheap love triangle.

    Stories & Swag
The semester at Eagle Elite continues in book two. Put on your uniform skirt and pull on your WIN boots because the bell has rung and class has begun. The Elect are back at one of the most prestigious universities and Nixon is still in charge. Trace is being torn between love and loyalty. Chase is put into the hardest assignment of his life. Tex and Mo are in love and having a blast. Poor Phoenix is battling not only is inner demons but fighting for his life.
I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this series for a review but I was happily surprised to find a true story line that wasn’t all about sex. There is sexual tension within the story but not the driving force. It is more about four buddies that have grown up together in a Mafia family and swear to each other they will be life long friends. Through the years lies and deceit have caught up to them and now they must deal with the consequences. It all steams up when another childhood friend returns and falls in love with Nixon, the head of the family. Nixon must do all he can to save Trace and if that means handing her over to his best friend Chase, then that is what he willing to endure. The friendships are put through tests that no one would have ever imagined. Find out who stays loyal and who will betray without batting an eye. Just for informational purposes there will be a book three and I am already intrigued by the cliffhanger.
In these times of books be pumped out for all the graphic sex scenes to sell a few more copies it is refreshing to find an author who can write a great story without resorting to the gratuitous sex scenes. Read carefully chapters do switch on and off between character POV. This seems to work well for the author to give a well rounded story. At times you do have to reread a line to keep all the players straight, but hang tight it will make sense by the end.
A strong 4 out of 5 stars for storyline.

I was lucky enough to get the ARC of Elect in return for my honest review, so here it goes!

Well, maybe here it goes. I honestly don’t even know where to begin with this review. Yes, I am that book hung-over with 'Elect' and trust me you will be too.  Run to your TBR (To Be Read) list and add it, and if you haven’t read 'Elite' add them both, you will. Not. Be. Sorry!!

I should start with saying that after I read the first book in this series 'Elite' I was hooked. I don’t do Mafia type books but Rachel Van Dyken has a way of catching your attention and making you want to read it.   When I finished 'Elite' and started 'Elect’ I was still undecided who I wanted to win Tracey’s heart, whether it be Chase or Nixon. However the further I got into the book I knew my choice. It was Nixon!!! (That’s right I’m finally on TEAM NIXON). If you are TEAM CHASE your loyalty just might be tested, much like the characters in the books loyalties are tested.

This book has all sorts of emotions, love, hurt (in more ways than one), tension, happiness, twists, and so so much more. At some parts in the book you may just end up throwing your reading device across the room and hunting Rachel Van Dyken down.

The Sicilians have traveled a long way to make someone pay for the death of one of the mob bosses. A life for a life, Right?

Nixon mob boss of the Abandonato family doesn’t know who he can trust to help him solve decade old mysteries. Sacrifices will be made, blood will be shed, and in the end someone has to pay! As much as Nixon hates to lose the love of his life Trace, to keep her safe he pushes her towards his best friend and right-hand man. To keep her safe he has to prove to the world she means nothing to him.

As with all of her books, I just can't wait for the next book in this series to come out!!

  • K.A. Graham

WOW…I don’t even know where to begin with the awesomeness that is Rachel Van Dyken! She’s a truly caring human being, and blows my mind with her ability to suck you into her stories continually. Yes, she will tell you that’s because she has a psychology degree…HA! Elect blew me out of the water, and if you haven’t read Elite, the first book in this series…run to your computer and one click that baby! I was gifted an ARC in return for an honest review of Elect. So this book was beyond emotional for me, I can’t even explain all the crazy thoughts that were running through my head as I was reading, and trying not to throw my kindle across the dang room.

The Eagle Elite gang is back with a vengeance, and what an action packed round this one’s going to be. Love, heartbreak, murder, blood and more blood! We get answers to questions we’ve been seeking since Elite (book one) and then literally get dropped with a nuclear bomb…just when we think things are calming down.

The mob families will have you frenzied, and searching for what’s real and what’s not, is going to drive you crazy out of your mind! Who’s the ultimate family in charge, who should be boss, who should be to blame for the chaos that ensues…OMFG! It’s a total tailspin, and will have you flipping through the pages like a complete lunatic!

For those of you that truly know me, I’ve been a huge Chase fan from the beginning, but after reading Elite, I have some major respect for Nixon and shockingly enough, Phoenix (who betrayed his best friends in a huge way in book one). Trace, our lovely leading lady, is going to have some epic decisions to be made. Will she choose her heart and soul (Nixon), or will she choose the man who’s been there to protect and love her through some tragic situations (Chase)? What’s a girl to do!

I give Elect 5+++ stars for it’s Mob awesomeness!

    4.5 Amazing Stars!

    This sequel did not disappoint!

Trace, I understand her bond with Chase, he is her saviour, and she loves him, just not the same way she feels for Nixon. . One is her saviour, and the other is the air she breathes. And whether heart was shattered, I cried with her...

BUT I didn't quite get how she could get passionate with Chase so fast... how fast she could decide and choose ... That part I didn't like. I guess that was her way of dealing? I really wouldn't know cause the story is based on Chase and Nixon's POV.

Nixon, he is awesome. He would do anything and everything to save the person he loves, he'd die for her. My heart hurst for him. He is not selfish and he is all heart! I know he kept saying it was all his fault that he pushed Chase and Trace together, but he trusts them both and in the kind of life they live, he chose her happiness above his. He is amazing and I love him.

Chase, I was not very happy with him, to ask your best friend's girl to choose him! But I love him still cause though his love is selfish when it comes to Trace, he is honest and loyal to his friends and family. So. I hurt for him too.

Though I knew what was going on, I still cried with them.

I know my review is a bit cryptic, I didn't wanna destroy the plot for you.

    The suspense...
    the action...
    the emotions...
    and the turnaround....

I loved it!!! A definite MUST READ! And I can't wait for the next book!!!!!

WOAH! I mean, really?! I am so impressed with this book. putting it down to be a productive member of society was out of the question. I sat in the same spot from start to finish. The great thing about Rachels books is that you don't see the story unfolding how it does. Many books today you can predict the ending and all the character building by the time you get to chapter 5. Just when you think you may know what is going to happen, something gets thrown in and you have no clue what is about to happen...and I LOVED it.
The first book left us all in a "what the..." panic. The second installment picks right up and you feel as though you never had a pause between the two. I am very content with the ending. I love who Trace ended up with. I felt it was so right. I know many people may disagree, but it ended beautifully. there is no possible way to explain most of this book without giving away spoilers, so I am being very careful in my choice of words because one wrong one and it may be ruined for you.
You will be introduced to some new characters in this book as well as falling even more in love with old ones. those who you may have disliked in the first may quite possibly redeem themselves in elect.
let me know what you thought!
