Learning to Stand (Alex the Fey thriller series Book 2) Reviews

  • Deborah

In "The Fey", Alex Hargreaves Drayson was trying to find the man who murdered her team and was psychologically terrorizing her. In "Learning to Stand", Alex is now trying to figure out what and who she wants in her future, but the past is not done with her yet. Whoever wanted her dead hasn't given up, and Alex has one more vulnerability her enemies can exploit. The tragedy is that she doesn't realize what it is until someone uses it against her.

Alex was a brilliant hot shot in the first book, but now she has to prove that she is worthy of the accolades and responsibility and can really lead. The problem is that she has to prove this to herself.

The action is even more intense than it was in "The Fey", and so is the emotional import. I sniffled in a few places as The Fey struggled with her losses, but I was ultimately inspired by this never-say die heroine.

Their is so much that happens to the "Fey" team and Alex you just want to keep reading more about them. Just to see what happens to them. Then when you finish the book you want the next book to know what happens.

I am amazed at the relationships Alex has with all the characters. She has known a lot of them for years and they have strong relationship. Some of my favorite parts in the book are when Alex is talking to Jesse. Jesse is a dead fey team mate that is always their for her when needed. Even dead Jesse is still protecting her as much as he can.

I would recommend this book to any one that loves a thriller/ military novels.

I Did not really know what to expect as this book was on my kindle as a free e-book, the story evolves around a female intellegence officer in the US special forces and the people in her life and the people she is fighting. For me this book was unputdownable and was so high paced something big and important to the plot was always happening. I went on the start reading the rest of the series which are all very good too!

Story was good but the typos and grammatical errors were really distracting.

  • Kathryn

So, if you continued reading past the first story, you will get a glimpse of Alex learning to stand on her own. Using her own unique blend of friendship, love, and magic she will move on, battle down former team member and move through more loss. This story was intensely set on the feminine power we each have within ourselves to move through grief and loss. I liked getting to know the people working towards becoming a new team, learning about some of Alex’s old mentors, and enjoying the missions. This series is very underrated, especially in our current climate of women losing their voice and power. If you like stories about finding your own voice, struggles, a bit of lovely romance, and some more military intrigue, please read this series.

This book was really great; with just enough paranormal, romance, suspense, and action. Unfortunately, if you are unable to overlook typos, grammatical errors, and such this isn't the book for you. Also, at times the story can be difficult to follow and a little confusing. I think with a better editor and a little polishing on consistency or the flow this author and series could have been mind blowing. Even with all the mistakes and confusion; it will still make it to my favorites list. I think that says it all. Something about this series really captures me (pun intended). Again, if you are a stickler for grammar, the flow, etc... you will have a hard time appreciating this series.

Another great Alex the Fey book! I was lucky enough to score an autographed edition, because the author, Claudia Hall Christian rocks! I didn't think it was possible, but Claudia's writing just gets better and better. She can visually take you to the scene in the book, and make you feel the mood as if you are really there. I look forward to learning more about each character in the story, keep writing them Claudia!!!

Good story line, but really needs a new editor. I counted 19 spots where words were completely missing. You can still figure out what's going on but it's annoying. None-the-less I can't wait to start book three!
