Thank God We Kept the Flag Flying: The Siege and Relief of Ladysmith, 1899-1900 Reviews
-
A well researched and written history of a now forgotten siege of Ladysmith that once was the biggest news in the British Empire. It occurred early in the Second Boer War. The book is enhanced by a large collection of maps and photographs and is filled with quotes from letters, private diaries and official documents. This book was written in the 1970's so it includes interviews with surviving soldiers of both sides of the conflict. The author also proves to be a narrator gifted in sardonic wit.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in well written history or British military history.
