All that glitters is not gold.

When something precious is stolen from sixteen-year-old Mina Grime, she will do anything in her power to get it back, even if it means traveling to the dangerous Fae plane and battling one of the strongest fairy-tale villains yet.

However, nothing can prepare Mina for the dangerous obstacles she will face in the Fae world, or the choices she must make when love and life are on the line.

I can’t decide how I feel about this book. I am a hot mess, my emotions and moods bouncing back and forth worse than Mina’s.

    description

In the beginning, I could not stop myself from rolling my eyes…repeatedly. The horrid Brody Carmichael pining was back. I could not deal with her miserable, love sick self. I mean come on you swoon at a funeral. Swoon! All the while your supposed best friend is dating him. This goes back to what I said about the last book, Mina is literally the worst friend on the planet.

    description

The middle of the book was a bit slow, quite a lot of plot building. But oh ho ho there was plenty of time for day dreaming about Brody. This was the area that slowly sucked me in and had me invested in the story instead of wanting to punch her for the most part. Oh all the drama though!

    description

The ending. I will save most of what I think about the ending for my profanity laced, spoiler filled rant. Right now, it can be summed up in one word.

    description

No seriously. Normal, totally acceptable story then it hits the fan.

    description

Overall, for a third book this one was pretty good. Usually, the third novel in a series either is amazing or sucks royally. This was one of the few in a no mans land middle ground. The book begins with Mina on a roof, wallowing in self-pity about how rough of a life she has and how she has just ignored the story for an entire summer. Yes, you read that correctly. She. Ignored. The. Story. You know, the one thing that is trying to kill her? Genius move, I know. Anyway, she was thinking about how she wanted to be normal when a fire started. She lives, but barely (as usual). However, this fire causes quite a dramatic beginning and creates the new quest for Mina to embark on. After a bit of drama, the introduction of the Stilksin family (you know, Rumplestilksin? Apparently it is a family name). A bit more drama, then she crosses over into the Fae realm. This leads to another new character, Nix. Now I must say, I am pretty fond of this nixie. I honestly thought for a bit he was going to be a new love interest and suddenly there would be a love square. But alas, this was not to be. Mina FINALLY acquires the skill of having a platonic male friend. It’s a miracle!

    description

Well more drama ensues in the Fae realm in the form of sea witches, trolls, and Sirens. Oh and Teague. He and his lovely self makes a dramatic appearance as per the norm. Lots of fighting, lots of near deaths, and lots of life-saving-suck-kisses. That leads us to the ending. Simply put, it is supposed to be a plot twist though I guessed it early on (and hoped that it would not happen). Mina lives (shocker) and makes it back to the human plane. There the mother of all shock bombs is dropped on her and that is essentially how the story ends.

    description

Now it is time for my spoiler, profanity laced rant. You have been warned.

So to conclude, this book will make you go from annoyed to interested to amused to ecstatic to hating life in 200 pages.

No release date?? NO RELEASE DATE?? *takes a deep breath* What was that quote? 'Patience is a virtue.'
When this book comes out it'll be worth it. Yep... Worth it.

    August 30-Review:
All that glitters is not gold. I wasn't expecting the fairy tale in the book this time to be involving Rumpelstilskin. But whether I knew it or not, and Chanda pulled it off. Her fairy tale retellings are the best retellings I've ever read so far.
At the beginning of the book, Mina has seemingly ignored the quests for months, and had ignored Jared since he's Fae. So far, her plan to ignore anything Fae related has worked. Until a fire breaks out on her apartment while Mina is on the rooftop. Her brother Charlie wasn't found and is pronounced dead, even though there's no body.
Mina meets with Temple, who is in the Rumpelstilskin family and he tells her that she can have Charlie back and that he's not dead but she has to give him the Grimoire's twin. That's all I'll say.
This was the best book in the series so far. I couldn't put the device down. I laughed, screamed, panicked, and wanted to throw a brick at Teague all during the story. If this book was a person, it would break my heart then bring it back to pieces all over again.
I loved Jared and Mina. I loved Jared's humor and Mina's cleverness. They're one of my favorite main characters ever. When(hopefully if) the series ends, it'll be a shame to not read any more of them.
On a different note, why does each book have to have a cliffhanger?! Ths book's ending was shattering to me. If you're gonna read this, be prepared for the ending. Yeah, the cliffhanger gets solved in the next book but another cliffhanger can come after that and it goes on and on. It bothers me because I have to wait for the next book. If I can survive the wait for the third book, I can survive the wait for the fourth... Hopefully :D

HOLY CRAP!!! Jared Nooooo! I cried so much towards the end! I have loved the unfortunate fairy tales series and read all three books quite quickly not being able to put them down! BUT I HATED THIS ENDING ONLY BECUASE I LOVED JARED WITH ALL MY HEART!!!!! I was also a little diassapointed how she is sooo close to the end! I mean I wanted to read another million books in this series haha but I guess I also don't like it cause I don't want her to do her new last quest! She can't do that! Not to Jared! Anyway I love how this series can make you change your feelings towards characters in a heart beat! I loved Brody and Mina but now I can't stand them! And I hate the Jared and Mina were finally together than BAMMMM! Not ok! Like I said I cried a lot towards the end..... I've been reading other reviews and people are saying maybe there could be something stirring up in the love category with nix and Mina! But I just don't see it but I also don't want to haha! 5 out of 5 stars from me! GOOOO READ IT NOW IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY!!!!!!!!

This series has hooked me from the start and I'm loving it!! I can't put my phone down and find myself reading it any spare moment I can!!!

  • Katie

This book has broken my heart. That ending has made me question all my life choices. I actually can't think straight right now because my emotions are all over the place. I love Jared so much so that ending hit me hard. I can't see this series ending well at all and that scares me. I swear to god if the ending of this series breaks my heart like this book I will be in a slump for roughly the rest of my life.

  • Steph Dormihal

After reading the first two books in this series, I'm jumping out of my seat in excitement for this one. I really can't wait till it releases. I hope it's soon because I'm pretty sure I can't wait much longer.:)

  • Allison

I dont really like Brody and Nan together... It feels forced. But what I do want is Jared and Mina to be together!!!! Even though Jared is probably hundreds of years old and is Fae...

  • Erica Ravenclaw

So, eh... just so you know this entire review is a spoiler. Stop reading. Turn back now.

    I'M NOT KIDDING.

I finished this book three days ago and I lack the energy and desire to write a review. My disappointment I have mustered for this book is consuming me. You see, the first two installments, albeit with a young MC and all things related were good! The entire take on the Grimm stories and fairy tales was enchanting and fresh, I wanted this to be so much more than a sappy 16 year olds love story. Chanda, YOU ARE SO MUCH MORE THAN THIS BOOK.

    Things that caused rage:

    1. MC's swooning when her crush Brody, who happens to be dating her best friend shows up to her kid brothers funeral. Yes. You read that correctly, her 9 year old brother burned to death in a house fire while she was supposed to be watching him. Her crush hugs her, you know to be supportive and crap and she fucking swoons. I hate her. There is some part of me that tried very hard to see things from a hormonal 16 year old girls POV... would I have swooned? The truth is, I don't think so. I stand by my original statement.

    2. The fact that there is even a character named Brody.

    3. Mina's wishy washy stance on EVERYTHING. I'm not doing it. I am doing it. I'm not doing it. I'm doing it. I must save my brother. I can't save my brother. I love Brody. I'm actually really in love with Jared. I might be flirting with Teague.

    4. The fact that this HUGE (obvious) plot twist took her this entire book to figure out. I figured this out early in book two.

The only thing that brings me comfort is I finished this book like I said I would and I won't have to continue to read this series. I can let it go into oblivion. I think all authors (with very few exceptions) flirt the line with the 3rd book, it's how they recover in book 4 that I normally judge them off of. I can't do that after this book.

“I would rather go through the front door and tackle the giants than have to life-saving-suck-kiss you for five minutes.”–Mina

Chanda Hahn’s latest in the Unfortunate Fairy Tale series does not disappoint. Mina is as feisty as ever and like in the previous books, the secondary characters and their scenes with her make a very entertaining tale. In Fable, like with Fairest, we’re once again dealing with the shocking ending from the previous book. This time, we start off a few months later, passing over summer vacation as our heroine starts her junior year of high school. Unlike Fairest, which started with a bang as Mina faces her curse head on, Fable starts with a very disinterested Mina doing what she can to avoid wandering into a quest. Unfortunately, her disinterest leads to a shocking start to the book!

Now, not only does Mina have to deal with a life-threatening curse, she has to deal with a gut-wrenching loss, losing almost everything she owns, Jared’s mysteriousness, Ever and Savannah White’s loathing, a really bad bargain with a really bad Fae, and the love of her life being a knight-in-shining-armor…to someone else! Luckily, she’s got Jared’s loyalty, her best friend Nan, a new water-friendly ally, and Fae Godmothers (all inclusive–not just fairies anymore!) to make sure Mina still has her sanity… oh, and stays alive!

Like the previous two books, this is a great read. It has humor (Mina and Jared’s scenes are hilarious), action, and a great story line with shocking twists! Fable reveals more about the history of the Grimm curse, and we get to peek into the Fae plane! We also get to see why the Fae are so interested in our world. Mina is such a great heroine, and there isn’t a moment where I’m not rooting for her to break the curse. Her situation is so crazy, and I love how she deals with it because she loves her family.

The twist in the end was a huge surprise to me, and at the end, all the rules suddenly get rewritten as Mina has to face the unthinkable! I can’t imagine where future books are going to go from here, but I can’t wait to pick up the next book to find out! Like before, there is enough backstory that you can pick this up without reading the first two, but I definitely recommend reading them first (the first book ebook version is free, so there should be nothing stopping you from picking that up). While the ending is awesome and makes you want to read the next one immediately, it’s not really a cliffhanger. Like the first two, I highly recommend this book to all ages, especially those that love faery tales! This is an absolute 5 out of 5 for me!

Okay. So at this rate I don’t give that this review has spoilers.
    So here is my rant.
-I HATE YOU TEAGUE. You just had to go and stab Jared?! I never had much against him but now if due to some crazy thing that he actually exists…he better run for his life because I got a list of tortures with his name written all over it.
    - Epppppp!!!!! They kiss!!!!!! Finally!!!! My heart just went to heaven. I had such a huge fan girl attack. Then Jared was about to say I love you!!! Then he got stabbed -_-…… I admit with no hesitation that I cried. And even now every time I think about what happened I almost have a mental breakdown.
    - I have a few problems. 1) Brody is still in the story. 2) Teague is a jerk. 3) Mina might have to kill Jared.
-I am dying to read the next book. Chanda Hahn you better have a happy ending for JaredXMina or else…..
I honestly loved the book though.

    ........................................................

DANG. YOU. TEAGUE. I. HATE. YOUR. STUPID.GUTS.

    JARED. I. LOVE. YOU.

I was really looking forward to this book! For the most part it was really enjoyable (although there were some editing errors). I was a little disappointed with the ending, but the more I thought about it, Chanda has set herself up for a great beauty and the beast tale. I can't wait for book 4!

  • Pia

i cant wait till this book comes out . the cover is a picture of jared . i love jared and i was glad when brody ended up with nan . can wait . auther said it will come out either june or july!!!!:)

  • Jessica

It really hurts to give this book 2 stars but I have to be honest that it was simply ok. I liked the first two books in this series so much and I had high expectations for this book but the plot in this one came from left field. It felt like Fable didn't even belong in the series. Nan was M.I.A for three quarters of the book and the feel was just all wrong. I found myself skimming the pages to get the gist but not really caring all that much. Way too many new characters to introduce all at once while leaving key characters from the other books hanging in the wind! Heck even Jared played a smaller role.

I know the ending will cause angst among many reader's but in my mind it is the only thing even remotely interesting that happened in the entire book and saved this one from getting just 1 star!

  • Tiffany

    This book......

This series started out with everything I could have on a wish list.
    Witty best friend
    Strong family ties
    Bad boy love interest

But as the series progressed we saw each item on my wish list removed. Until the end of this one where Mina has none.

Now that my favorite character is dead. Or rather never existed, I think that will be all for me.

  • Abigail

I am a mess with my emotions right now. The beginning of the book I was about to pull out my hair, because Mina keep on swooning and day dreaming about Brody. Get it through your head Mina, that you are meant to be with Jared not Brody! Well that's what I thought this book. The last two books I really did not like Jared and I really loved Brody. I thought Jared was a jerk, but then at the end of the second book I was like "Woah, team Jared!" In the beginning of the book, here was a fire in which her brother "died" in. Well that's what she thought. Until Temple showed up and told her that she had to get something in return for her little brother. The middle was a little slow because it was building up towards the plot, but then she went over to the Fae Plane and that's when all the excitement happened. When I first met Nix I was worried that we would be entering a love square, but thank goodness we did not. After a battle with a few sea witches, Nix and Mina had to battle Temple in the castle. Then the best thing happened Jared was there and after the battle him and Mina kissed!!!!!!!!! Yeah, they finally kissed!!!!!! My OTP of this series is finally happening! Now here is where the spoilers come in.
After they kissed, Jared was about to tell Mina that he loved her when Teague stabbed him!! Stabbed him!! After that she had to combined the two in order to save Jared's life. Then the main plot twist came and it ended up being that Teague had been spilt in halves. His good side was separated from his bad side and now we are stuck with Teague and no Jared!! What has this world come to!! After Mina and Charlie got back to their plane, Mrs. Colbert talked to Mina and said that in order to defeat the curse she would have to kill Teague!! Really, Really!!!!!!! Why??!! I really hope that there's a plot twist that Jared comes back or when she kills Teague that the good side of him/Jared won't die and then they can have a happily ever after, but I doubt that that't going to happen. I a kinda scared to read the last two books in this series but I have to, to figure out how it ends. Ugh!! The agony of plot twists!!

  • Elly

    *Spoiler alert*

So it's really good. Mins has to travel to the fae world to get her brother back. Who was apparently killed in a house fire. She ventures into this world where she meets Nix who is a nixie and he helps her get to the palace. There she meets with Teague and he makes her kill a stiltskin then Jared runs in and they kiss (after she killed the stiltskin) then in the middle of Jared confessing her love to him Teague stabs him. This causing him to fall to the floor and slowly start to die. Teague then convinces her that the fae book will heal Jared if she points it at him and she does so which causes him and Jared to join together as one person but Jared wakes up just before this happens and starts shouting no and this is when she realises that Teague had lied. Then she goes back to the human world and the fae tell her that she needs to kill Teague to end the curse.

At this point I broke down crying and have been crying for the past half an hour.

  • Kaydance

So ready for this book I loved this series and the iron butterfly series waiting for both to come out ........,.anxious!!!!!

  • Virginia Henderson

Can not get enough of this series!!! The only thing that kinda bugged me was that there really wasn't a particular fairy-tale theme that continued to build up for the entire book. I know that Stiltskin (sorry if I spelled that wrong) was the main fairy-tale character, but, I don't know. It's probably just me. Anyway, I really enjoyed it and am already onto book 4!

  • Megan Griffin

Wow!! Wow!! Wow!! This book was INCREDIBLE! These books just keep getting better and better! Again I wish there were six stars because it deserves at least six. The ending was just Wow. I have no other words to describe it. My emotions are all over the place. I can't wait to find out what happens!

  • Dezra Bennett

The third book in this series had a lot of a turns and twists. Some worked and at other times it didn't. Either way I still plan to continue on.

  • Elizabeth (Elzburg)

This is a two-for-one book review! The first review is from my first time reading this a couple years ago, and the second review is from today, September 10th.

(This review was written more than a year after reading this book.)

I was so excited to get this book. I pre-ordered it and everything. But when I read it... This book was just a huge disappointment to me. Chanda's writing was absolutely terrible and it ruined the book for me. Maybe the writing was like this the entire series and I never noticed because I was a book novice when I started the series. I'm still pre-ordering the next book because I love Jared and the story itself is very intriguing. Plus I have very good memories of loving the first two books, so I don't want to stop reading this series. Yet? We'll see. 3/5 stars.

    ~~~~~
    Spoiler (not really) I stopped reading the series. But I restarted it so here's my reread review!
    ~~~~~

I feel it's safe to say that the second time reading this was a lot better than the first. The first time I was just wayy too hyped and excited about it. 4/5 stars for round two.

I feel like a lot happened. For most of the book it was pretty contemporary. Just kinda life stuff with evil metal monsters sprinkled here and there. And then shit really goes down and Mina (I feel like you know this is going to happen one way or another the whole book so it's not a spoiler) finally goes to the Fae plane and we meet a new friend! Heheheheh.

There was a twist here and there that when they happened just made me feel so stupid. This is my SECOND time reading this and I still got really shocked.

There were lots of parts of Brody being jealous and annoying.

Brody walked out the door and saw the placement of Jared's hands on her [back]. He scowled.

Like, can you not? You're dating Nan, you jerk.

But Brody wasn't the only problematic teenage boy. Jared was pretty pissy like, the whole book. Now, y'all KNOW how much I love Jared, but... ehhhh.

But there was one character that actually got better: Ever. I just kind of hated her because I remember I hated her the first time I read these. But she was actually pretty cool this time around.

"NO!" Mina and Brody cried in unison, while Ever pumped her fist and yelled, "YES!"

This was when I started realizing that Ever's not as bad as I thought.

Ever looked furious, Ever looked glorious.

    Iconic.

Bonus Comments on Quotes Cuz You Know I Annotated the Shit out of my Book:

Mina couldn't help but feel slightly disheveled in her discount jeans and cute rainbow tank top, blue hoodie, and converse shoes.

Mina was casually cosplaying Rainbow Dash and she didn't even know it.

"...She [Mina] likes to read, but not that smutty stuff--classics, and books that have depth to them."

    Ironic.

Chanda Hahn is one of my favorite authors. She's never written anything I didn't like. And I really liked Fable.

The book starts off, and Chanda Hahn captured my attention right from the first scene. She doesn't waste any time getting right to the heart of the story! I was honestly a bit shocked when I started reading, because it starts off on a sad note. (You think....)

The plot had me on the edge of my seat at all times. It had so many twists and turns at just the right times, and I loved it! I loved that this was a retelling of Rumplestiltskin. (Honestly, I would probably love it no matter what fairy tale it was, but Rumplestiltskin is one that isn't over-retold.)

I love this series for many reasons, and one of them is Jared. Let's be honest, Brody is just a silly distraction. I liked him best in the beginning of the first book, but Jared really has captured my heart as the series has went on. Well, Jared fans, I'm going to warn you; you might hate this book. Let's just say I was in shock. In hindsight, it was a pretty ingenious plot twist on Chanda Hahn's part, but it's not how I wasnted it to work out.

We also have a new character, Nix. He's ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I loved him! He has a heart of gold, that Nix. I hope he becomes a regular in the series. If the whole Jared and Mina thing doesn't work out, then I'm fine with Nix and Mina starting a romance. (We can just skip on Brody.)

Honestly, Mina isn't really a character I can gush about. She isn't terrible, but she isn't my favorite. And I'm really tired of her flirting with Brody. (But you probably already guessed that, didn't you?)

The reason that I am not going to give this book five stars is because it still suffers from some editing problems, and the dialogue could be stilted at times. I will say this; I usually couldn't stand it if the dialogue didn't sound natural, but I was able to tolerate it here, which is extremely unusual for me.

I liked Fable and I can't wait to get my hands on Book Four! (I wish it came out sooner!)

  • Gaelle R

Ok, so I was very excited when iTunes informed me that this was available as I have been waiting ages to read it. The first two grabbed my attention so well and I loved where the direction of the story was headed and especially when Mina declares war on Teague. It was an amazing moment for Mina.

However, the third book has left me wanting. Not only do I feel absolutely disappointed in the fact that .

Beside this spoiler point, I found the writing and pace of this book a bit slower compared to her other ones. I found myself skipping through paragraphs just to get it going again, which is not something I tend to do often.

Mina crossing over to the Fae land had me excited - and while she was able to bring up a beautiful world, I can't help but feel that she was dragging out a few scenes, as well as adding information or certain scenes which didn't seem relevant in any way. Although I did very much enjoy the addition to new character and look forward to seeing where this new friendship will go.

Overall, I did still enjoy the book. I got answers I was searching for and I was still entertained most of the way through. There were just a few low points which were much to low to ignore.

  • Kuga

This book, is probably my favourite in the series, but seriously, how the bloody hell am I supposed to choose a 'favorite' between these AWESOME AS books! Okay now back to the topic, for peops who have never read this before, this book is the third book of the series and it is also when the heat and romances rises. o(^_^)o getting excited already!! It is actually one of the saddest books as well because #######*!!!!!!!!!!!!!spoiler alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!**** nan and Brody go out together, she is love struck and can't get over Brody. That's when things get juicy, does Brody still have feelings for her?? Do the Brody +nan couple break up? Who is Jared, I mean we all know who Jared is but what is his SECRET??? Is Jared really Teague's brother? Why do they hate each other so much? And what happens when Mina's brother DIES!???????! Or does he? Or maybe he comes back to life? Or maybe none of that happens and I'm just bluffing? LOL. Anyways, in this book she finally realises her true goal, the true goal to kill Teague, but along with Teague she must kill another person! Duh DUH DUUUUUUHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! Okay well in this book Mina also realises who she is actually meant for, like - finally girl! She can be so slow at times.... But I cannot wait for the next booookkkkk!!!!! ☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆♪───O(≧∇≦)O────♪ yyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaãåàáäYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Oh and I almost forgot to mention that I have to thank my friend, I don't wanna say her name on the Internet but I call her piggybum, for actually recommending this book to me and for buying it for me! *\(^o^)/* thanx and luv ya piggybum! —as a friend.

  • Brittney

I can't decide how I feel about this book. My emotions are bouncing back & forth so much.

For starters, once I got past all the Brody pining (at your brothers funeral? Get serious Mina.), I was pretty wrapped up in what was going on. I love Nix. He's awesome. I loved the banter with Teague. I enjoyed it all. My heart did a serious fan girl leap for joy when I realized that Jared had come when she asked for help, it's a definite possibility that I squealed out loud. And that kiss & Jared telling Mina how he feels made it a billion times better, I was trying to make myself read faster so I could see what else was coming.... And then Teague. He had to stab him. I was furious, I might have tossed my phone across the room. After checking to make sure that it was okay I closed out my Nook app and swore I wasn't going to read anymore. 3 days later.... I finished the book. It makes sense that Teague & Jared are 2 halves of the same person, but my heart broke with Mina's when she realized what she had done. I am very interested to see how this aspect of the story plays out.

All in all, this book drug me threw a big range of emotions & I loved it. I think that's a talent makes a good book (& of course author). Now, please excuse me while I go read Reign
