Meanwhile, Sofia is being held hostage by the hunters. They are determined to rid her of her infatuation with the vampire. She submits to the strict routine and training they impose on her, but the only fuel that keeps her going is the thought of reuniting with Derek - something Reuben is fighting with every fiber of his being to ensure will never happen.
...Until one day, out of the blue, Reuben appears to have a change of heart and comes to Sofia with a proposal; a solution that she never dreamed possible. A solution that would fulfil her heart's deepest desires and secure her and Derek's future together, forever.
But can she really trust this man who is so renowned for his hatred of vampires? Does she even have a choice?

3 Separation during the majority of the book stars
A Shadow of Light is the forth book in the A Shade of Vampire series. I will have to say, this was not my favorite book in the series. Yet again, Derek and Sofia separate and this time, it’s much longer than last time. Also, we get several POV’s in this book and it gave me major whip lash. I sometimes forgot which POV was reading and I had to go back to the original chapter and read again.
I have a major pet peeve when it comes to Heroine and Heroes separating in a series. I understand it happens, but twice! That is kind of much.
Also, I wasn’t a fan of Derek and when I got to the ending I was REALLY not a fan of Derek. Throughout the whole book he struggled with his cravings towards Sofia and he just knew he couldn’t be with her and by leaving her was the right thing to do. Here’s my two cents on this. What’s the big deal if he drinks from her? Plenty of books have the Hero drink from the Heroine, but that’s just me. I just don’t get it.
Sofia does everything she can to get back to Derek but her father makes it difficult. I’m so over Sofia’s dad and I really didn’t care for his POV. REALLY? Do I want to read about the Heroine’s father’s POV? This is what I call a filler chapter. Not only that, we get Sofia’s mom’s POV as well and she’s no peach to like either.
My major issue with this series is probably because it’s the most angst out of all the series and I’m not a fan of angst. I was really frustrated and annoyed a majority of the book and when I wasn’t, I was bored and skimming the pages until the good part.
THEN we get to the ending and Derek WTF?! Right?
I may take a little break from this series. Until I cool my jets at least

A Shadow of Light is told from several POV's, each chapter switching to a different person. For much of the book, I found this somewhat distracting. It just seemed like the book was disjointed, didn't flow. But, towards the end, all the characters come together and it worked a lot better by that point. But, with that said, I was glad to be back with Sofia and Derek. It starts out with Sofia being held at the Hunter's headquarters. Derek has left her there. He has convinced himself that it is best for her own safety because he craves her blood so much. I felt like Derek did a lot of whining during this book. He keeps convincing himself that he's not good for her, forgetting the prophecy that they need each other to achieve true sanctuary. Claudia, Vivienne and Ingrid are all also there being held. Derek finds his way back to The Shade and everything is falling apart. His own father has waged war with him, wanting to win back the throne from Derek. The humans are rebelling. At every turn, as soon as Derek calms one storm, another erupts. He finally realizes that he needs Sofia. She keeps him from giving in to the darkness. Can Derek save The Shade? Can Derek and Sofia's love truly be enough for them to overcome all their obstacles? I can't wait for the next book to find out.

Bella Forrest has done it again. This book can easily be read in a day and only took me longer because of being pregnant and having a family to take care of lol. I guess they need to eat and have clean clothes lol! I really do love Sophia and Derek and am really pulling for them. Derek has been taken to the hunter headquarters and the shade is falling apart and is in udder chaos. His alligances are being questioned and war is about to break out. Sophia is being held captive with the hunters and her father the leader is someone she is not sure she should trust with his hatred for the vampires. I thought the book was great and I can't wait for the next one! Hope we don't have to wait too long!

Not bad for the fourth book.
OMG, guys, I am so excited with this ending. Two of the people I hated, died. Yup, that's excitement right there! Other than that, Sofia and Derek were a bit frustrating in this book. It's like they continue to make dumb ass decisions when they aren't together... and it just makes me roll my eyes.
Then there's Ingrid, ugh, and Claudia. Now Claudia definitely got on my good side in this book. As for Ingrid, I can't wait for that bitch to die. She's a terrible mother to Sofia and a terrible "wife" to Aiden. I seriously have no idea how their parents ever fell for each other because they both suck in the parenting world.
A Shadow of Light sort of gave us more information about this mysterious darkness that's on it's way to doom the vampire coven. No one really understands this darkness or how the vampires somehow get under it's wing.. but it's a thing. Of course, towards the end of this book.. we sort of get a glimpse of what it actually is. The darkness may/may not deal with the OG of the vampire world. I wonder who this is and I can't wait to find out.
Also, I'm totally getting vampire diaries vibes right now.. or I guess the originals? Either way, the vibe is there.
Other than that, there's this talk about a "cure" and all.. but it seems fake. I just want to know what the hell is happening between Derek and Sofia. Why are they so drawn to each other? Will they get their happily ever after? How is she immuned? Will she ever become a vampire?
I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS GUYS! I need answers. -
Of all the books in this series this book is the least of my favorite. Derek came across so whiny and acting like a little female instead of the Alpha that he is/was in the first 3 books. I get that his love for Aophia is supposed to change him and make him better but this dude was acting like a straight wuss. Very rarely does a male character get on my nerves but Derek got on my LAST nerves. I wanted to smack him upside the head so many times. I also didnt like how long Sophia and Derek were apart for the fist half of the book. I wanted more of the couple together and not torn apart from each other. Ingrid aka Camilla was a heartless women and I hated reading her parts in the book. I understand why it was needed to add the POVs of the supporting characters but I didnt want to read about the villians. I wanted Sophia and Derek dang it. LOL!
Despite being my least favorite, I still love this series. -
Okay, I'm going to say this as plainly as I can. If you don't mind grammatical errors, and depth of character isn't necessary for you, then you might enjoy this book. If you like a fast read, and don't like getting bogged down in details and descriptions, again, this book might be up your alley. If you like super-sweet-syrupy romance, again, you might be staring at a winner. And if you have a thing for vampires, and merely want to be entertained, without too much thinking, I implore you to read this book.
I don't want to trash the author because she is a human being after all, and she should be commended for writing this story. It's not easy being a writer. If it was, I'd have written a book by now!
Bella Forrest has the imagination, but her skills at storytelling and character development, need a lot of work. And she needs a new editor, or to employ one.
So why did I pick up this book, and continue reading the others? They were free on my Kindle. And they are, like previously said, quick and entertaining, but also very frustrating. And so very predictable.
I tell myself that I'm reading them because I'm hoping the two main characters die, but I doubt I'll get that lucky. I mean, why would you ever kill off the lovers? You just know they are going to live happily ever after. And if they don't, well color me surprised!
This sums up the entire series of this storyline, for me, barring books five & six, because I haven't read them, but I doubt they are going to change my tune. -
Starting to feel a little “meh” towards the series...
Taking a break from it to see if that makes a difference! -
Out of the oven and into the frying pan!! That seems to be the best that Derek and Sofia can hope for at this point in their journey, and with new players factoring in, things are only getting more complex. A Shadow of Light brought to light even more struggles thanks to Sofia's newly discovered immunity and Derek's abandoning of the Shade to go save her from the Oasis. Things weren't looking good right from the start, and with Borys, Ingrid, and Gregor still on the loose, I was really nervous about just how bad things were going to get!
Her words made me sink into a deep despair, knowing full well the weight of what she was telling me. Despite my fears that I could never do what she was asking of me, I nodded. She didn't have to know how weak her father was. She didn't have to know that It might be too late, that the darkness already had too firm a grip of me. ~Gregor, p. 93
With Gregor working against him at the Shade and word of his affiliation with the hunters spreading fast, Derek had some big challenges just getting his own people to trust him when he returned to the island. It seems like he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't most of the time, but he proves again and again that he deserves the role of their king. With Sofia's blood running through his veins and tormenting his thoughts and emotions, he was really struggling here and I was glad that he had allies to help see him through! And talk about your twisted families!! I knew we'd be getting a closer glimpse at Sofia's parents with this installment, but I wasn't prepared for just how low Ingrid and Aiden would stoop in order to get what they wanted. In the contest of who has the worst parents, it's a close race between Derek and Sofia, but Ingrid really made my blood boil yet again. I can only hope she gets what's coming to her in the near future!!
With Sofia's discovery that she is immune to vampirism, she and Derek's relationship seemed doomed; that is, until the idea of a cure for vampirism gives them the hope that they'd been looking for. I kept thinking to myself that this couldn't be a good idea with so many strong vampires just waiting for a chance to take Derek down, but I was just as desperate as they were for them to find a way to be together once all of the dust had settled!!
That night, for the first time since I had left her, I tried to imagine Sofia's face and found that I could no longer picture her face as clearly as I had done before. I shut my eyes, holding on to whatever figments of her were left inside me. No. I need to find you, Sofia. I can't let you slip away. Not ever. ~Derek, p. 68
Once again, just as it seemed like it was okay to take a deep calming breath, Bella Forrest throws a whopper at us that left my jaw dropped and my heart heavy. I'm so nervous for what is yet to come for Derek and Sofia, but I haven't lost hope that they will come out the other side hand in hand!! A Shadow of Light was another awesome leg of this journey, and I can't wait for the next!! -
This fourth installment takes us into the family of Sophia. Her father, a hunter wants to keep her away from Derek, but is hesitant because he's sees the attachment she has formed, the trusting bond with Derek. Her mother, want's nothing more than to rid her life of Sophia, she has felt threatened by her since the day she had been born, her husband showing his love for Sophia more than to his wife.
Derek is conflicted. Since he first took his taste of her blood, he has become addicted. He never meant to feed on Sophia, but she had offered it up to keep him well.
While being held at the hunter's lair, Sophia's father offers to let Derek go, under one stipulation that he stay away from his daughter. Derek is confused, but loves Sophia enough to know him staying away from her would be the best thing. She deserves a better life, than him. Sadly, he leaves without a goodbye to her.
No matter how much Sophia's father tries to convince her that Derek left on his own, she doesn't believe it. She has every intention on escaping from the hunter's lair and returning to the Shade. But her father has her locked up tight? How can she get away? -
This was another action packed and informative installment in the Shade of Vampire series! Aside from all of the turmoil going on at The Shade we got quite a bit of historical information on some of the supporting characters which I found very interesting. We got a very deep look into the relationship between Sofia’s parents, how it started, how it ended and what happens once they are back under the same roof now that Ingrid is being held prisoner by the hunters. Talk about a demented relationship! Sofia’s mom was straight up crazy and they kept hinting at some terrible past before she met Sofia’s dad and I wonder if we’ll ever learn what that was because without that there are no redeeming qualities to that woman! I felt bad for Aiden because he clearly loved Camilla/Ingrid and had no idea of her insecurities towards Sofia but when it came to his behavior with Sofia I did not agree with his methods. I was in the same mindset as Sofia, he may be her father and love her, but he gave up his right to tell her what to do when he abandoned her 9 years ago. Not to mention she’s technically an adult now and is more than capable of making her own decisions. The biggest surprise for me was how I felt about Claudia in this book, I really liked her back story and my heart totally went out to her. I look forward to see what’s in store for her in future books.
I wasn’t thrilled that Sofia and Derek spent much of this book apart but I was glad to see that Sofia never gave up trying to get back to him. Derek wanted to be with Sofia but he had his hands full with everything going on at The Shade. I think the author did a good job of portraying his internal struggles as he tried to deal with everything that kept getting thrown at him, all while trying to hold off the darkness that was always in the background waiting to draw him back in. I liked how everyone rallied around him and supported him. I also liked that not all of the progress that was made in the politics of The Shade in the last book weren’t totally undone in this one.
When Derek is finally reunited with Sofia he has to deal with the insatiable bloodlust and I could totally feel his desperation as he fought to resist what he so craved. Sofia, being the awesome character that she is, handled the situation beautifully and I loved the revelations Derek had at this point. It’s clear that they are stronger together. And with all of the turmoil still surrounding The Shade and their own problems of how they can possibly have a relationship together still hanging over their heads they are going to have to remember that fact in order to face what is surely to come! I can’t wait to see where the series is going to take me next! -
Favourite Line(s) “She was Derek’s choice. She was the light that he chose over the darkness.”
“I guess I was hoping that by being here, he could see what we saw here at The Shade.” Ashley stopped in her tracks. “And what exactly do we see here?” “Hope.”
“I’m with you, Derek. I’m right here with you.” “Always?” “For as long as I have breath.”
This goes with out saying but, BELLA FORREST HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!
Sophie has had it (me too) with the men in her life always doing what THEY think is best for her!
First Derrick leaves her because he THINKS he will hurt her and now her father is keeping her at hunter head quarters because he THINKS she is safest there! Sophie is done so after trying to escape and being betrayed by her so called mother (again). She decides to tell her father she is the cure, her blood could cure all vampires. So they try it on Ingrid (Camilla) and it works!! Sophie's heart is filled with hope!! As was mine! She convinces her father to let her go back to the Shade with home of course.
Derrick can't believe she's back!! His heart, his soulmate, his fiancée, his love, and light is back!!
As always something or someone messes everything up!! The original (first vampire) is behind everything!! Man I want to tell you everything but, I have said to much! Now why is this book amazing?
The love between Sophie and Derrick is something.... AMAZING!!! She is the light he needs and craves. He is EVERYTHING FOR HER!! Seeing that love is enough to bring a tear to anyone's eye!
The drama in this book is not like normal drama this book has drama but, it comes from totally surprising places!
It has everything needed to make an amazing story! In true Bella style the ending makes you CRAVE THE NEXT book! It may be book 4 but, man there is still so much to happen, to find out, to enjoy, to cry about, to crave, and man I can't wait to see what happens next!
If you have not read this series you are missing out on something AMAZING!!
I was given this book from author in exchange for honest review
FIVE LIGHT FAIRIES -
Gosh this series is so freaking awesome!!
I will say that I am happy that they decided to give some background abut Ingrid and Aiden. It was good to see that even though she acted like she was just an unfeeling woman , Ingrid was still deeply in love with Aien and Aiden still in love with her.
In this installment, Sofia and Derek are away from each other. Sofia is with the Hunters and her mother and father. Her father who is training her to fight the vampires no matter how much she tells him that she is in love with Derek and that she wants to go back to the shade. Her mother who is using both of them who tells there that she still loves her father and that she will help her escape only because she wants her to be able to be captured by Borys. They figure out that Sofia is an immune and they get a cure from her blood, or better yet they get a what Sofia thinks is a cure from her blood.
Derek is on the island pretty much fighting a whole revolution that is lead by his father and the few that are loyal to him. He knows that he must protect the humans because it is the humans that are pretty much the reason that they are able to live on the shade in the matter that they are able to. He is able to capture his father and kill Felix but the loss is a deathly blow for his father and he ends up killing himself.
Finally Sofia and Derek are reunited and so is Vivienne who was being held hostage at the Hunters camp. With the power of seduction both Vivienne and Sofia were able to distract Borys enough to kill him, but now that they know that the cure does not really work they can not see how Derek and Sofia will be able to be together.
Also there is this Emilia chic that disappears that seems to have a connection with Derek, if he cheats I SWEAR ON MY LIFE I will go inside this book and stake him myself. I SWEAR! -

Like I said the last time, when I reviewed A Castle of Sand, one of my favorite thing here is that the author knew exactly when to stop the story in one book and when to continue with the next one. All books in this series have some minor (so to say) problems they deal with, while the whole series has bigger issues that are presented in all books.
In last book we caught a glimpse of all sides in this complicated world. It's way bigger than only vampires vs people thing. There are big differences between different vampire clans but they all aim for one thing safety and power. The we also have hunters, who try to protect our world from these beasts. War is about to start.
For many here it's hard to recognize good and bad and to decide which side they belong to because things change so often and it's hard to trust anyone. With all that Sofia must struggle and fight hard not to break, which is hard when a person she should trust unconditionally offers her a way out, a solution to all her troubles. Only that means the end of everything Derek fights for.
Luckily it's not Ben I have problems here any longer. While at one hand I do understand Sofia and her determination to find a solution I couldn't but be angry at her when she was so stubborn. I felt sorry for Derek here.
But all in all, I cannot wait to see how things develop in A Blaze of Sun. -

I have thoroughly enjoyed the first three books in this series but this one suddenly added a multitude of POVs. We are now following not only Sophia and Derek's story but also Aiden's , Ingrid's, Claudia's, Vivienne's... The list goes on and they all have recurring chapters! Good heaven's, it's frustrating! Could we just get back to the main story with secondary characters staying secondary?!? Gah!

Theses books r just pure addiction at it's best. I cannot stop reading them.

I can’t get enough of The Shade! A Shadow of Light was yet another amazing installment in A Shade of Vampire series. The stakes were even higher; the conflict was even more impossible. There is never a dull moment, a lull, or a moment of predictability. Bella Forrest is on a roll with her books and this one does not disappoint!
The story began where A Castle of Sand ended. Sofia’s reunion with her mother and father in hunter territory was less than traditional, but having her mother, Ingrid, and her father, Aiden, at the headquarters gave Sofia much needed to time to understand both of them. Each book in the series contains more points of view than the last, which I enjoy. I like getting into the heads of the characters and figure out what their motives are. In A Shadow of Light, added points of view were Ingrid Maslen, Aiden Claremont, Claudia, and even Gregor Novak.
Derek and Sofia were separated yet again in A Shadow of Light. Derek’s conflicts at the Shade were growing exponentially and I had no idea how Sofia would get back to the Shade without Derek’s help. Sofia’s situation at the Hunter Headquarters felt just as hopeless as she tried to convince her father that she wasn’t brainwashed and how her relationship with Derek is real. How would the two of them fight preconceived notions and work together? I thought everything at the end of A Castle of Sand was a mess, but A Shadow of Light proved me wrong. Though the conflicts had no easy resolution, I felt like they were plausible and the story doesn’t just throw them out of nowhere.
As always, I’m incredibly invested in the story and the characters. I never thought I would care about the motivations of Ingrid or Claudia, but their added points of view gave me tons of perspective. I’m always rooting for Sofia and Derek and hoping that the two of them can use what they have to convince others that there’s a balance and a way for there to be peace. How will Derek provide true sanctuary when everything seems hopeless? How will Sofia and Derek find their balance and figure out how to be together? Is there a solution? Is Sofia the key? I have so many questions, even though I got a ton of answers to other ones in this installment.
The series is full of everything I love. The characters become ones I care about, even when I previously hated them. Death, horror, blood, violence are all a part of the story, but there’s also understanding, peace, passion, love, and friendship. Derek frustratingly joked in A Shadow of Light that every time one conflict was resolved, another one popped up even worse than the one before it and that’s basically how the story goes. There’s no black and white solution to the conflicts in the series, which I love. So many YA paranormal romances have me banging my head and screaming at the characters to just get over themselves because the solution is obvious, but that’s now how I feel with The Shade series. I am just as in awe, confused, and motivated to figure out a way to solve all of the problems.
I cannot gush enough about book 4 or the series as a whole and I highly recommend it. It’s fun, passionate, dark, and amazing. A Shade of Vampire series is my guilty pleasure and remains a great example of why I love vampire paranormal romances and the plots within them.
The number of books in the series and that fact that it isn't finished isn't a problem and should stop anyone from starting the series. I started the series in February of this year when only book 1 was released and book 4 is already out. The books come out quickly, but the speed of which they release doesn't mean they are rushed or full of errors.

Ahhhhhhhhh this series is killing me!!!!!!! I really love it. Each book is just more intense and dark and emotional and mind-blowing than the last. So much happens in this book and by the end, you've already pulled all your hair out and lost a bunch of teeth from the stress and battle you've had with yourself. I'm so glad I didn't take it out on my kindle, but Christ! What fucking more can these two poor characters go through?
I think I'm gonna take a short break before staring the next book. So much darkness and sadness and bloodshed and death, I need something a little more cheerful for my mind at the moment. But rest assured, I will be back for more of Derek and Sofia's journey. I just need to brace myself for the worst. -
The plot is excruciatingly boring, what little there appeared to be anyway... This book needs better editing as well. It reads like fanfiction and I really don't need to hear how much so-and-so loves so-and-so on every page. I get it, Derek loves Sophia and vice versa. But is a reminder every 2 minutes necessary? The multiple POVs were extremely annoying in this respect too. Half a dozen POVs is annoying as it gets, but to top it off, practically everyone who gets a POV loves someone and you'd better believe we have to hear about it as if we're supposed to give a damn. The previous novels didn't feel nearly as bad. Maybe I'll come back for the final book, MAYBE, but I have no interest on the road to get there at this point. I'll likely just read a summary.

Derek saved Sophia from the explosion at the Oasis, same place where Sophia set eyes on her estranged father Reuben and mother after so many years. Derek plans to never part ways from Sophia again so he follows her to the hunter headquarters where her father is in charge.
Many things happen and Derek finds himself return to the Shade without Sophia. Meanwhile, Sophia is blaming her father knowing well Derek would never leave on his own accord. Returning to the Shade seems slim to none but she sets on a plan. Will her mother, a woman who resents her help her escape Hunter headquarters? hmm...
Good book! Gets better -
Finished this in one day. Could not put it down.
A riot among the humans. A siege at the port. A kingdom on the brink of civil war while still facing the threat of an attack from outside forces at any moment. -
It's a great book but not as great as the first three books.
-
Each book is better than the last.
-
This was my least favorite of the series so far. Everyone acted like they were in high school. Not enough romance between the two main characters.
-
Interesting premise but the schizophrenic characters are giving me whiplash and taking away from the story. I’m done with this series.

Here we are, back at The Shade. Well not exactly, but you know what I mean. I can definitely say that this is my least favorite book in the series so far, but not by much. As you can see from my 4.5 heart rating (instead of the normal 5), I still loved the book!
The story opens with a back story from Camilla, who is Sofia’s mother. To be honest, we desperately needed this back story. But the story continues to be in large part about Camilla, who is a conniving witch of a woman. I think that’s why I didn’t enjoy this story as much because I was just so done with Camilla. Once I found out that Camilla hated her daughter because her husband loved Sofia more, I just couldn’t take anymore of her. I mean how twisted is that?
The absolute best thing that came out of this story was the return of a character that we all thought for sure was dead. I seriously wanted to scream for joy when this was revealed! With the return of this beloved character came a change of heart for another character. But unfortunately it was too late and proved to not matter.
In the beginning of this story, I was EXTREMELY disappointed in Derek and basically wanted to strangle him with my bare hands. He still has some making up to do in my eyes, so hopefully he will in the next book!
I was so happy when Sofia made it out of Hawk Territory even though she had to bring Reuben with her. That was extremely frustrating and I’m still not sure exactly how that’s going to play out for Sofia and The Shade.
When we finally literally return to The Shade, we return to a cluster mess of pure chaos and I was extremely worried there for a little while. I couldn’t believe the standoff between Derek and his father Gregor. I’m glad Derek grew some balls and proved why he was King of The Shade. Gregor had chosen to side with Darkness, which apparently is a tangible force that Derek is going to have to face, so when Gregor tried to choose the Light it cost him his life. Which was kind of sad even after everything he put Sofia and Derek through.
It was also really reassuring to see how much influence Sofia has at The Shade, especially with the Naturals. It was also nice to see that Derek and Sofia were seen as a unit and not two separate entities.
With the end of the book came the demise of another character. I was so glad when this finally happened because I couldn’t stand another minute of this person torturing Sofia. I literally breathed a sigh of relief, even though it completely shattered Sofia and her accomplice.
Also with the ending we get a nerve racking VISION and I cannot with what was seen!
Other than Camilla playing such a large part in this novel, I really don’t like “the cure” and “the immune” aspects of this series. I really wish they would get over one and change the other. But we will see if that happens, I really hope so!
I CANNOT wait to see what the next book holds! -
I said this for the last book but it’s true again; SO much happened in this book & I don’t know where to start. This review is going to be a bit of a ramble.
Ingrid is messed up. Like really messed up & I really enjoyed getting some narration from the bad guys for a change, you don’t often see that. With Claudia it gave us some insight into why she acts the way she does but with Ingrid it just adds to the mystery that is Ingrid, there is no sanity with that one.
Now Claudia, WOW. Who knew Claudia’s story would be the one to really pack the feels. The history with her & Yuri was just heartbreaking.
Urgh, Aiden. Not that I liked you that much anyway but what were you doing? Thinking with your dick is what you were doing. So disappointing until BOOM, he went all vengeful.
I loved seeing the shift in Sofia, more assertive & outspoken, she seemed a little too soft up until now.
It felt like one of the revelations at the end was thrown in quite suddenly, perhaps as a lead up to the next book but it didn’t feel entirely natural & I didn’t like one element of that revelation at all, so we’ll see how that goes. -
This was another good book in the series. This series is a lot more than I expected it to be and honestly it's a lot more books than I thought it would be too 50+ books in this series.
The main characters are ever more growing in this book; Sofia, Derek and more but for the minute I'd like to focus on these two. Sofia is trapped at hunter camp with her dad and with her mum trapped there also. It gives her a great bonding opportunity with both of them but it is her dad who is the one who stands up. Meanwhile Derek is back at the Shade and is fighting people on all fronts, the vampires siding with his father, the humans struggling to make their voice heard without Sofia and a brewing war with the other vampire covens. He is in way over his head and struggling to stay afloat without Sofia.
There are a lot of secondary characters and I expect they will get more of the spotlight in the later books in the series.
The storyline is getting better and more in depth with each book but I suspect it will run out sooner than 50 books. I will probably have to take a break anyway after maybe a few more. The pacing is good and I have already started the next book in the series.

Hard to believe
Its a bit hard to believe that Sophia's parents would do such horrible things to her. She was found to be immune to vampirism and the idea is she is the key to a cure. She has been given hope but her father has hurt her with his abandonment so she doesn't trust him. Then she has Derek running away from her and his need for her blood. It is hard to believe that she is okay when he is taking blood a couple times a day. Derek needs to man up and take care of Sophia and his kingdom. -

I decided I'm done with this series. I definitely overgrew this kind of storyline, but it's not only about that, because I still like some YA paranormal books, when they're well written.
The story is getting just too old for me, it's getting flat and there's really no emotion coming from it. It just gets a lot of things thrown in the mix for drama effect and I got tired of it.
The main characters, Derek and Sofia, are frustrating and all the plot twists instead of adding to the story, just make it more confusing.
