Young readers would definitely enjoy this book because a lot of kids dream of becoming famous and to appear on TV. It teaches that behind the fame and glamour, one needs to sacrifice certain things such as privacy and tranquility.

I never expected to go into this book in hopes of a five-star worthy read, but I thought I would like it sufficiently enough, so I bought it.
If you are reading this review, just keep in mind that I am about 1-2 years above the intended audience age, so I'm a teenager reading a tween book. But still.
Okay, let's start out with something that really bothered me- basically the entire plot line. This may be a very minor spoiler, but you find it out at the very beginning basically, so it won't be too big of a shock- Nikki gets her own reality show somehow, even though she's in an amateur band that got signed after they played one song at a school talent show or something along those lines. Very realistic. If you couldn't tell, I was being sarcastic. Nikki and her band became insta-famous I guess, because they hadn't even released ONE SONG YET and this girl got her own reality show. Ugh.
Still, it wasn't all bad. There were some cute and funny moments and no matter how unrealistic the plot seems, it was still pretty creative.
But Mackenzie is always out to get Nikki, and you're never wondering who pulled off the evil prank or who is to blame for every problem. Nikki needs a new villainess- one of her friends perhaps? I know, it's intense, but doesn't it sound way more I intriguing?
Okay, that aside, the grammatical choice and "overused" punctuation was extremely annoying. A common example, "SQUEE!!!!!!!". And exactly like that, too. No joke.
And then there was the dreaded cray-cray. I have no idea if its just me, but abbreviated words that don't need abbreviated (take totes as the shortened form of totally, for example) make me shiver. Especially when the abbreviation actually MAKES IT LONGER. Who invented this, and why? I don't even know.
I counted the cray-crays. There were about three. That's approximately one per every hundred pages. That is three too many.
Oh, and I spotted a hashtag-something-or-other in there too. I mentally (and probably physically) cringed.
Less noticeable was what accompanied the similes. It would say, "Brianna was blowing kisses and posing like she was a pageant princess from Toddlers and Tiaras", but then it would add "or something". It would have flowed much smoother without that, especially for all the creative similes throughout the book.
I didn't expect to not like this installment as much as the others. I think it might have been all the added exclamation marks and such, because as I looked through my other books from this series those seemed to be much less prominent. I was a little harsh on this review, but these books are always cute for when you want a light read with nice illustrations, and I like this series enough that I will probably still buy the next book.

Things are turning great for Nikki - even greater than she would ever hope! Her group is recording their first cd and a mini-reality show is filmed by the local tv station, based on her life. But... how her nemesis Macenzie would react to such great news? How will it affect Brandon, her secret-love interest? Also, why has her whole family started to react so strangely during filming?

Things are not always perfect in heaven, but a dork girl always has an ace to play!!!

This book is a great book to read,as it is part cliff hanger, part funny! As in it the main character is nearly arrested for pretending to be someone she is not, and when this happens you are shocked and you want to keep reading to find out what happens next.....

  • Tasha

OMG I'm so excited to read it!

Summary: One morning Nikki Maxwell woke up and received a phone call. She thought it was her major crush Brandon who she had just went to the dance with the night before. When she looked at caller ID it was a famous singer Trevor Chase! He had asked if the Nikki and her friends Chloe and Zoey wanted to sing back up at his concert. Nikki agreed and then called her friends immediately.
They all went to the concert the next night and saw one of their worst enemies Mackenzie Hollister. Mackenzie was bragging that she got front row seats then suddenly Nicki waved her tickets which were back stage passes right in her face. Mackenzie dumped her water bottle on Chloe and as Nikki and Zoey were trying to clean Chloe up Mackenzie stole Nikki’s backstage passes! Nikki and her friends tried to tell the security guard but he was too grumpy so he would not listen. Nikki and her friends decided to jump on a moving rack full of clothes to see where it would take them. Luckily enough it took them backstage. When the clothes designer saw them he felt terrible for the way thy looked so he dressed them up in his latest fashion which looked like Diva Dancers.
They were walking down the hall when the plan failed. Zoey slipped and the security guard caught them because Zoey’s wig fell off. They were taking to a room to decide if they should go to jail or not when suddenly a security guard brought McKenzie to. They were all fighting when suddenly Trevor Chase walked in. He noticed Chloe, Nikki, and Zoey and decided to not take them to jail. He also brought good news he asked Nikki and her friends if their band wanted to make a record and they said yes. They all agreed to meet at Queesy Cheesy on a Monday to talk about it. While they were discussing Trevor Chase asked Nikki if she wanted to be on a reality TV show and she said yes. Even though her TV show took most of her time she had a great time and would like to do it more! Through the book, it shows the struggles of her trying to balance her busy schedule, and helping her crush Brandon get a scholarship. In the end she ends up getting a kiss from her crush, and gets him the scholarsh

I love this book it's fun and interesting to read. It was my favorite book of the dork diaries books. I recommend this book to 4th and 5th graders who like drama. If you like diary of the wimpy kid you might like dork diaries. This book is so good I totally LOVE it! In the beginning they made a song called dorks rule. They were going to meet up with a famous guy named Trevor Chase. Then Mackenzie stole their backstage passes. They tried to sneak in but they got caught then they dressed up like 3 famous actresses. They got back stage with out getting caught. Then Mackenzie and Nikki got in a fight because Mackenzie stole there back stage passes and was pretending to be her and BFF's with her BFF's.Finally after there bickering they all got caught and all most went to jail but then they called there parents and there parents brought them home. Towards the end they finally were famous and Trevor Chase threw a party for them. And their "Dorks Rule" cd came out.

This review contains some important events in the story: Dork Diaries: Tales From a Not-So Glam TV Star

I can't believe I am saying this but I think this is the worst book of the whole dork diaries in this series. I mean yeah I get this one goes with the third fabulous book in this series but c'mon, who would really get a TV show! I just thought Rachel focused herself on the TV show and I thought it should of been more on the school and test. I just thought the whole book was foul used on how the main character (Nikki) is tired all the time and she kept forgetting about Brandon (her crush) I honestly felt bad for the guy!

What I did like about the book is Ms. Rachel moved Nikki and Brandon forward in their relationship. I think they are the cutest couple ever! And I did like the evilness in Mackenzie this time, too (you have to read the book to find out who Mackenzie is!) All I would suggest is next time focused more on the characters and the main setting. Not the other side events! (I have to disagree with. Yield though because getting your own TV show is NOT a side event)

"Dork Diaries Tales From a Not-So-Glam TV Star" was an easy read. The book had an exciting plot and I enjoyed it a lot. This book isn't very serious, but it was fun to read. It is about Nicki Maxwell, a young teenager and her band mates. A producer has offered them a record deal and has offered Nicki her own reality TV show. Nicki has a hard time managing school, friends, a love life, and her new career. Can Nicki make her busy schedule work? Read to find out!

  • Chloe Resendez

This book was AMAZING!!!! I can't believe what happens in the end! If you're just curious to know what happens in the end, read the book!!! This is sort of like the 6th book but even better. Nikki finally becomes a pop star with all the camera crew following her. But later on it doesn't end too well. I am more than happy to read the 8th one!!!!!!!!

    Best book yet

I love the Dork Diaries series. They do have a lot of drama in them but they also show some meanings of friendship inthem.

Let's just say I am a bit disappointed in this book/series.

I was truly looking forward to it, but sadly it was not meant to be.

    Reasons why:
    1. Mackenzie, Mackenzie and more Mackenzie, it is one of the things that keeps coming back, rinse and repeating the same stuff over and over.
    2. Insecurity over Brandon, I wish she would just be honest with him, tell him how she feels. I am sure she can find a time for it (like when she chased away the camera crew). It just gets a bit annoying that every time it is about the same thing, Oh My Brandon, Does Brandon like me? Etc. etc.
    3. Her whole family stuff. Brianna, her dad, her mom. It is just again the same thing, rinse and repeat.

The only thing that changes in the books is the story. This time she gets a reality show based on her. I really liked that and it was done really well.

Also I won't spoil anything but that thing that happened between our main girl and Brandon. Ah, finally!

All in all though, I am thinking of putting this series on-hold or drop it. It will all depend on the next book.

Nikki and her band are recording their song to release as a single. And Nikki has her own reality show! Besides that, she is doing recording sessions, dance lessons and still going to school every day. Nikki is going to have a busy month and as always Mackenzie is there to try to ruin things for Nikki.

I don't think this book was quite as funny as previous entries, but it was still really enjoyable. Mackenzie seems to get worse with every entry in this series though. She never stops trying to ruin things for Nikki.

I think one of my favorite parts is with the karate instructor. I'm not going to spoil anything, but it was pretty funny.

I think this was another great entry in this series. Can't wait for book 8!

  • Elaine

Silly and cutesy just as one expects from this series. Poor Nikki is never sure what's really what but ends up well in the end. Great series for gr 3-6 girls (or grown ups like me who really aren't grown ups).

  • Whovian27

    Blah!!!

OBY SOMEWHAT SPOILER: u basically already know it from the title. It's what the wholee story is obviously about:
The series totally went downhill. Before, it was somewhat relatable and average, but then suddenly she has her own TV show?!?!

  • BookCupid

When the Dork Diaries series began, Nikki was always afraid to defend herself, accepting Mackenzie's bully remarks, while scorning her inside her head. Now (book7) Nikki replies instantly, no longer scared to put Mackenzie back in her place.... Go Nikki!

  • Jody

I love it! I may be a teenager but that doesn't mean I can't love these adorably awesome books! I think this is my new favorite! SO worth the wait!
