What Is Love Has No Boundaries?

The Goodreads M/M Romance Group invited members to choose a photo and pen a letter asking for a short M/M romance story inspired by the image; authors from the group were then encouraged to select a letter and write an original tale. The result was an outpouring of creativity that shone a spotlight on the special bond between M/M romance writers and the people who love what they produce.

Nearly 190 stories were submitted and have now been published as a twelve volume set with two additional bonus volumes, titled Love Has No Boundaries. This edition is Volume 6.

The stories in this collection may contain sexually explicit content and are intended for adult readers. They may also contain content that is disagreeable or distressing to some readers. Tinman
    by Dani R.R. Hermit -

    Brandon's Laughter
by Ellen Holiday 4 stars - **Sigh** That about sums it up. Lovely story. The only difficulty is that it takes place during the Vietnam War so while I want them to be open I'm always hesitant with my MC's being out in historicals because I worry about the practicality of living life like that in that time... but, **sigh** Just a beautiful and sweet story about young love.

    Lucky Panties
    by MC Houle -

    To Steal the Tithe
by Laylah Hunter 4 stars - I really enjoyed this, and actually debated giving it 4.5 stars. It's not quite there, but was perfect as a short. Good character and world development without being so complex it felt crammed into a short story. Believable relationship building and the progression wasn't pushed too-much too-fast. Great little fantasy with some smexy sex thrown in for good measure.

    Finding Bigfoot
    by Kate Islay -

    Daddy's Boy
    by Isla James -

    Nothing's Missing Now
by Westbrooke Jameson 3 stars - Pardon if I ramble, but this pic makes me a little gooey in the brain. This was a really sweet story, it gave enough attention to Liam's issues with the loss of his limb, without letting it overshadow the story. The reason I gave this 3 stars and not more is because its like the perfect little teaser to Liam and Ray's life. More now please!

    BTW I Love You
by Nico Jaye 3 stars - So besides this scene taking place on a boardwalk instead of a tall-grassy field, the story stays true to the picture given, which I always appreciate. This was a sweet, angst-free story. As much as I bitch sometimes about drama, the lack of angst may have left me from getting too emotionally involved.

I have to admit I was pretty disappointed when they skipped over the cyber sex scenes. I think this definitely could have been made into a full length, the climax/halfway point being when they meet in IRL, with some great and sexy scenes in both halves. But we did get to see some real-life smexin, so I can't complain. And I think what the author was going for in the short length was for us to really feel the progression of their relationship IRL and therefor the lack of witnessed sex prior contributed to that connection.

    by Jenna Jones -

    A Fragile Love
    by Les Joseph -

    Double Exposure
by Sam Kadence 3.25 stars - I hate it when boys have prettier hair than I do, but this pic is gorgeous. So, I'm torn on this rating. I loved the pic, the prompt, the story... But then I saw "THE END" after about ten minutes of reading and thought "whaaaaat?!" This is a true short, it almost felt more like a teaser to a full-length novel and I really hope the author continues with these two because there is SO much potential.

    A.S.H.E.R.
by Kallysten 3.5 stars - Awesome pic! This was a really wonderful short, and I'm always a fan of these robot-becomes-sentient/human plots. However, most of the story is Asher beginning to evolve and Wyatt in various stages of grumpy. This was a great beginning, and the ending was OK, but I really think it could have been great if we'd gotten to follow the guys a little longer after they got together.

    Right Hand Red
    by Danni Keane -

    Carry On
    by Cam Kennedy -

Las Palabras De Amor - Words of Love
    by K-lee Klein -

    So Hot With Love
    by J.H. Knight -

    Love You So Hard
by Tara Lain 4 stars - I thought this was sweet and I enjoyed reading it. Yes, Craig's insecurity and self-pity was annoying at times. Yes, Jessie's bedroom talk was occassionally cheesy and porn-tastic. Yes, they jumped the gun at the end but overall I liked it.

I was a little surpeised initially at their negotiations and the whole tutoring thing, I really just wanted Craig to ask Jessie out. But I get the attempt to make the plot more fun and interesting, and it worked out since the guys weren't awkward or weird about it and laughed a lot.

Life is like a box of chocolates. Sometimes they ok, sometimes they gross.

My favourite story was Brandon's Laughter by Ellen Holiday, an easy 4.5 stars. I also enjoyed Finding Big Foot by Kate Islay, though it did end rather abruptly. Double Exposure by Sam Kadence was another good one.
I am in awe really of anyone that had a story published in any DRiTC series and the amount of voluntary work behind the scenes that was put in to put such editions and stories together. Thanks to all that made this possible.

This was a tough one . . . The first story really made me want to put it down and run for the hills. But there were some good ones and some that just didn't hit right for me. 2 of the best stories are Brandon's Laughter and Nothing's Missing Now. Both were by authors I had never read before, but loved the writing.

  • Amanda

As always, a lot of hits and misses, but there were some real gems in this one. I think the best was Brandon's Laughter, with Finding Bigfoot a close second!

  • Jenny

There were a few great story in this volume, but most of them I didn't enjoy.

  • Kiki Pom Pom

In general, I felt pretty meh about the stories in this one. Most would probably rate mid- to high- 3 Stars. But as a collection, it was decent. Rounding up to 4 Stars.

I didn't feel this volume of Love Has No Boundaries was as strong as some of the others, though there were definitely some good stories in here. "To Steal the Tithe" by Laylah Hunter had an interesting fantasy setting with elves and demons and a human mage. I don't usually enjoy BDSM stories, but "Daddy's Boy" by Isla James had me wanting to read more. The idea of a vampire and an android in Kallysten's "A.S.H.E.R." was a wonderfully original concept, and I just wished the ending had been a bit longer and more explicit. I adored Bob, the class snail, in "Right Hand Red" by Danni Keane, which involved a friends-to-lovers contemporary story. And while I can't give an unbiased review of Tara Lain's "Love You So Hard," I can say that Tara's fans already know the consistent quality of her work.

There was a story or two that wasn't really my cup of tea but overall, I loved this compilation and the way it was created by the m/m romance group (proper link forthcoming). Reading a series of short stories based on a photograph and someone's "letter to the author" is something I've never done before and I admired the talent of the authors, the creativity of those who chose the pictures and their story requests, not to mention the hard work of everyone involved with putting these collections together. And, they are all FREE! Amazing! I am going to read this entire series and every other compilation they've published in due time.

I read all the stories - some I like better than others (of course) but the entire event is amazing and so are the people who donate their talents & their time for it.

  • Becca

A few stories I don't like but overall good

  • Lila Hunter

Skipped most of the stories. May come back to this volume later.
