Perfect Mate (Blind Wolf #2) Reviews

I have such a big heart for this series.

It is not just that the characters are not these super sexy, perfect examples of paranormal beings. It is the fact that the story is original. It isn't the cardboard cut out version of a paranormal romance. It is sweet, it breaks some rules, it sucks you into people that have real issues and real insecurities. Sometimes it gets tedious when the heroine in a paranormal series (described like a Victoria Secret model) feels insecure about the big broody hunky stud she's about to mate with.

It just isn't 'real'. Yes, I enjoy them but its nice to see a woman sought after that is curvy, vulnerable, not some balls to the walls fighter--yet, she is a very precious commodity to the shifter race.

In the real world people are chubby, people are insecure, couples do fall in love that are opposites. It is just nice to see a story told with misfits and not beautiful people as the lead. You care, you route for, and you need these people to WIN!

This story I believe was intended to be the conclusion but I know there are more books in the series. There was yummy scenes, the flow was fast paced and easy to follow, the world-building continued, the villain was actually scary, and I honestly thought this was a great installment to the series.

I hate to say that I didn't read the first book of this series but I will be going back to read it to see what I missed.

Julia is the mate to Damien who is a wolf. That isn't all that makes it so special, Damien is also blind. He can since emotions and it has helped him hone in on his scent of smell and hearing. I know I am missing some great things that happened in the first book so I just got it on the tail end of Damien fighting another wolf. I know that Julia isn't comfortable with herself or Damien's love for her.

As I read this book I noticed that not everything is what it seems. There is still some secrets that need to come out. You don't know until the very end who is on which side. I was pulling for these two until the very end. I just about had a heart attack when I heard Dee say that they had to leave and Julia had to stop seeing Damien. I loved the ending and couldn't have imagined a different one.

Perfect Mate was a nice and short story, following the first book 'Blind Wolf'. At first I thought it could be read as a standalone but well if you haven't read the first part, then you'll be lost like I was at first. It took me a little time to understand that Damien was blind and was the leader of his pack composed of shifters who's been cast out from their original pack (shame on me I know, but I was tired so...).

The end was better but I still wouldn't put up more than 3 stars even if I was touched by the characters such as Damien, Dee (she's pretty strong for a grand-ma ;)) or even Jordan who put a light touch to the book. I love the cover and the summary buy my expectations were higher (maybe a little too high?) so I was a little disappointed.

    3.5 stars

Perfect mate is 200% better than Blinded Wolf. The wolf who was captured and was unconscious now has woken up and has secrets to reveal that will change everything. But he isn't the only one who is keeping things for our characters. Grandma Dee is not who she seems to be, someone from the pack is going to betray them and the happily ever after for Damien and Julia is not for sure.

If there is another book in the series I want it to be about Jordan and not J&D. I feel sad for those who read and disliked the first book and won't read this.

Ok I will start by saying I was lost from the first section of this book. Netgalley said it was a stand alone but I think reading the first part would make it a lot easier to understand. I eventually managed to catch up and get the idea of the story.
The story itself was quite good but it was very obvious I had missed a lot of stuff int he first book, and with it being a short read I felt it was just jumping in half way through. Saying that it was written well and I did enjoy the story...I just wish I hadn't missed the first part before venturing in!

d book is just as d name suggests it.

  • Airwreckah

    Ok.

  • Kenya Wright

Not as good as the first, but a great continuing of the story. I liked that there was more info on the world and Julia especially.

On a minor note, I wished others found her goodlooking too. Last book the hero's pack member thought her looks were beneath the hero's. This book the villain commented on how fat she was.

    It is what it is.

Other than that, I will def check out the next book in the series. Great story.

  • Vicki

Damien is a blind pack leader. Julia is his true mate. Someone is trying to capture her why? What secrets does her grandmother know and why did the wolf who tried to kidnap her say "They didn't know what she is?" Love this series.

Having not read the previous book in the series, I didn’t have a history with the two main characters, Julia and Damien. This novella must pick up immediately where that book ends, because it is definitely in the middle of something. The story was action-packed, romantic, and even a little dark. There were a lot of revelations in this story that came up quickly one after another, leading to a quick paced read.

Julia and Damian are a human and werewolf in love. They appear to be destined for each other in some way that this story calls the “Calling”. I’m not sure what age Julia is supposed to be, but if she’s not very young, she comes across pretty sheltered. She certainly is brave, though, in all the fight scenes and craziness that surrounds her. The devotion she has for Damien is also clear, as she quickly overlooks any sort of negatives associated with him eventually turning into a wolf.

The story was interesting enough for me to want to check out any follow-up stories in this series. There were a lot of unique characters thrown in that could be used as a jumping off point for more books in the future (that I would totally read).

    2.5-3 stars

I'm struggling how to rate this. I think the main reason for me not getting engaged with this novel is because NetGalley touted it as a stand-alone within a series. I trusted that statement, but as I started reading, it was pretty clear that there had been a lot of character development in earlier books and presumably, I'd understand better how the main couple got together had I taken the time to read. So, can I fault the author? No, I don't think that's fair, but at this point it's hard to make a fair rating because I don't have the benefit of having read the first book.

My enjoyment of this novel went up and down. At first, I wasn't sure about the werewolf thing, but then I reminded myself that Kristen Ashley wrote a werewolf novel and I was okay with that--so I continued with a better attitude. There was a lot of action, some sexy moments and some revelations. Pretty good for such a short read.

Paranormal is not really my reading preference, but it's good to go outside your boundaries now and again. As far as wiring goes, Aubrey Rose did a pretty good job of it and I would happily give her writing another try.

A Perfect Mate was #2 in the series. Story just jumps in with a scene with Julia and Damien like we know who they are, but I caught up quickly. I have not read #1 Blind Wolf by Aubrey Rose, so the characters had to grow on me.

Damien and his pack are considered misfits. He's found a human woman for a mate. All is not what it seems, and a rival pack means trouble.

Damien lost his sight in a fight. His other senses have taken over, so he's still a fierce protector for Julia. He's learned that another Alpha is pursing his mate and he cannot understand why. Since I felt like the start of the book dropped me into the middle of a scene, I hate to assume that the first book ends on a bit of cliff hanger.

Julia and her Grandmother are key to the mystery. Action, suspense, and romance make this a complete stand alone book. It has HEA so I can so not cliff hanger here.

I have not read this series, but have a few of the BBW books in my TBR pile.

Perfect Mate was a cute short story, that seems like a conclusion to the first book maybe an epilogue. I don't think it worked well in the novella format. It cannot be read as a standalone. I was pretty much lost through most of it. I think Perfect Mate would make more sense to me if I had read the first book in the series before jumping into it.

Perfect Mate is packed with action, hot romance, and the paranormal. I did enjoy it but cannot give it more than 3 stars because it was hard to get into since I was lost due to there was no explanation of who the characters are to each other. It just picks up right where the other book left off I think. I'm not sure, I'd have to go back and read the series in order.

A wonderful conclusion to Blind Wolf...maybe?

Perfect Mate, much like Blind Wolf, was a HOT, yet endearing, story of a realistic, aka not-so-model-thin, woman and a (literally) blind man. Well, blind werewolf.

Although Perfect Mate tied up most loose ends that were revealed in Blind Wolf, Aubrey definitely made me want to read the next book in this series (which she MUST write, because I can't get enough of these books), because so many more possible loose ends were created!

Aubrey did a truly amazing job describing what the world seemed like to the blind Damien, and how he had to compensate not only to survive, but to excel and actively protect his mate. Aubrey obviously did a lot of research on the topic, and it shows in her writing.

I cannot wait to read more!!!

  • Samantha

This can be read as a stand alone but I would recommend reading Blind Wolf first to know how Julia and Damien met and got to where they were today. We join them in this story as Julia accepts the shifters and learns there is another pack who wants her. She's more than she seems. But what is she?

Damien will do anything to protect her but realizes there are things he can't do on his own. Grandma Dee is carrying her own secrets and will stop at nothing to keep them apart. But why? I really enjoyed reading this and finding out all the little betrayals, twists, and turns. I wish there was more!

2.5 Hearts This is the second in the novella series and I have to say it was just ok for me. The writing of the character was a bit immature. The story is sort of interesting but not much different than many others except Damien in blind. It is a short story so I won’t make this long but I do think you need to read the first novella before reading this one if you do chose to read it. There is not much to the BBW part and not much to the erotica part but if you like shifters you could possibly enjoy it.

I read that this boom was a stand alone. I think the fact that I hadn't read the first one just made this story awkward for me. I didnt understand the main characters relationships and I just felt the whole story was off. the main female character was made to seem like a young girl, but she sure didn't act like it. unfortunately it wasn't something that was for me. my recommendation for others would be to definately read the first book.

I had unfortunately not read the first book in this series so I came in slightly behind the curve with no background on Julia and Damien. That being said I enjoyed the book and will be grabbing book 1 soon, and I am interested in reading the follow up books to the series in the future. The story was fast paced, with action and romance and a little darkness. Panther story by Ms Rose that I have enjoyed very much!

I don't know why the author put this as a standalone book, when I feel you definitely had to read the first book in order to fully understand what was happening. It took me a few chapters to get the concept of it.
It did have some yummy scenes in it.
I also enjoyed the characters and might consider reading the first.

  • Becca ~BS BOOK REVIEWERS~

Perfect Mate is the second book in the Werewolf BBW Shifter Romance by Aubrey Rose. It says it is a stand alone but the stand alone quality is poor. I would highly suggest to read the first in this series first, Blind Wolf.

Starting out, I would have liked more back story on Julia and Damien for this to be a stand alone.

This novella was part of a box set (since I've already read a few of the books as stand-alones, I will rate each of the books separately also). This was a continuation of the first book, Blind Wolf, so this is like the second in a serial novel, rather than a true novella. The blind wolf is intriguing, but I felt a lot was left out, or given over-simplified dialog without any real character conflict. A good read but it is a continuation of Blind Wolf-- not a huge fan of the serial novel.

    UPDATE

Totally loved the conclusion if Damien and Julia's story. My only complaint is that it was way too short.

To be fair, I think this probably deserves another star - it played so well into my love of insecure, chubby heroines. And there was some really good angst. I think it just wasn't quite what I was looking to read right now. I will probably come back and re-read it, and give the review a bump. (2.5 stars)

I must admit beforhand that I did not read the first instalment of this series, so I'm basing my review only on what I read on Perfect Mate.
It was boring. A fast reading, because there was not a lot to tell. I didn't like the characters, but it was because there was not much to like. They are hollow.
So no, I did not enjoy it.

    Perfect mate

Shifters mating under the moon when they find the right soul to bond with- who doesn't want romance like that!!!! This book is part 2 that shows the love between Damien and Julia and a surprise fight between two packs over Julia, a human. Gotta read it to find out as I don't want to ruin the ending but it is a wowser....

Awww cute soul mate but I do wish Damien would have been able to see Julia when he turn to wolf. Regardless the story was really enjoyable and cute granny Dee is a firecracker and not to be mess with and hope Jordan find his soul mate too, I want more.
