To honor the 70th anniversary of D-Day, this superlatively photographed book tells the story of the landings through more than 200 key objects carried by the men who launched the campaign. Selected for their importance to the outcome, and often arranged exactly as the participants' kits were, the artifacts include uniforms and personal mementos of such Generals as Eisenhower and Patton; blueprints of the Mulberry harbors; personal mementos of the US Rangers on Omaha Beach and British Airborne troops at Pegasus Bridge; K-rations and cigarettes, and even rare German Army and Waffen SS material collected from the Normandy battlefields. International in scope, the book covers the US, UK, Canadian, Polish, Free French, and French Resistance, along with Axis soldiers.

The D-Day Kit-Bag: The Ultimate Guide to the Allied Assault on Europe Reviews

Beautifully put together pictorial history book. Amazing pics of everything D-Day related with very nice write-ups. Recommended

A nice short overview of the battle, with very good photographs of items carried or worn at Normandy, from both sides, including historical artifacts associated with actual participants. Novices and experts would both enjoy this volume. My grandfather was slated to be among the participants in this great battle, but was reassigned at almost the last moment to be an artillery instructor. He resented the fact for the rest of his life that he didn't get to go with his buddies.

This book provides an overview of the D-Day landings and also shows images of the kit used by the various forces involved.

I found the scale / logistics described almost impossible to comprehend and the illustrations gave the book a very human (if cold) feel.

  • Mark Luongo

Very simple book with exceptional photographs and descriptions of Allied and German equipment. Good maps and first hand accounts as well.
