WARNING CLIFFHANGER
When Lightning Strikes is the second book in the Credence Curse series. I knew this was going to be Lightning (Light) and Ryker’s book from reading Breaking the Storm (Credence Curse #1). I LOVED Knox and Storm in Breaking the Storm and could wait to dive into Light and Ryker since you felt the strong sexual attraction in the first novel and learn more about the powers Light struggled to deal with on a daily basis. Maybe it was because I loved Breaking the Storm so much, but When Lightning Strikes just didn’t live up to my expectations.
When Lightning Strikes picks up exactly where Breaking the Storm ended. Light is an empath for humans and feels all their emotions when around her. She used to be able to drown out their emotions with alcohol, but lately that remedy hasn’t been working for her anymore. She is shocked and annoyed to learn the only thing that will clear her head and ease her pain is pack Alpha Ryker Alfero. Light doesn’t like the feeling Ryker provokes in her and has unsuccessfully been trying to avoid the arrogant Alpha. But she is not the only one affected by their intense connection. Ryker can’t deny the pull Light has over him and knows that she is his mate and is willing to do anything to show the extremely stubborn Light that they are meant to be together.
I hated the way Light treated Ryker. He was a bit of an ass but only because she would push him too far. He was constantly laying his heart out to her for her to throw it back in his face and then she would get pissed when he walked away. What did she expect??? A person can only take so much and I never blamed him after each time he walked away from her. Finally Light realized how dumb she has been and decides to fight for Ryker to prove that she is ready for forever with him. Just when Ryker and Light figure all their shit out and are happy together a threat tears them apart. Ryker is will to do anything to keep Light safe, but neither is prepared for the opponent they are up against.
I went in thinking that WLS would semi conclude Ryker and Light’s story, like BTS did with Knox and Storm, and we could be given a new couple in the third Credence Curse series, but given the way WLS ended and the cliffhanger I’m hoping the third book continues in Ryker and Light’s POV.

This is my favorite series that Sedona writes and THIS IS MY FAVORITE BOOK OUT OF THE SERIES!! You could literally feel the sexual tension between Light and Ryker, "baby, your dirty little mouth is making me hot," he growled. He sauntered toward me with fire in his eyes. I refused to get up. His eyes locked on me, as he trapped me against the chair with his beefy arms. His lips grazed the shell of my ear when he grumbled, "I would love to see what else your dirty little mouth can do." I think that Ryker confuses the hell out of Light, "what you see is what you effing get, Ryker. I'm wild, blunt, love alcohol and sex - lots of it." I cupped his crotch, feeling the hardness. Damn, he was even big there. I let go quickly. "Which for some reason you're not down to partake in." I paused. "and I'm not afraid to go after what I want." Ryker doesn't like anyone sniffing around his woman, "I looked at Ryker worriedly. "Alluring? Alluring, as in shifters following me around trying to sniff my a**?" I snapped. Rip edged closer to me. Ryker's head snapped in his direction, growling warningly." Light that girl can sometimes shift her attention so fast, it makes your head spin, "I'm not done with you." I dug my fork into the omelet, giving Jackal the evil eye. The first bite melted in my mouth. "Oh. My. God. This is the tastiest thing I've ever eaten." Ryker growled playfully." And yes people there is a cliffhanger, but I kinda braced because Sedona is known for those damn things.

First up, the bit at the front of the book says its best to read Breaking The Storm, which is the first book in this series. However, I have not, but did not feel that I was missing any back story, and picked up all I needed to know from this one, the second book.
Now, I really REALLY liked this book! The story starts off, and moves along at a shocking but *correct??* pace, its right for this story. Some books run away with themselves and its not right for that story, but this one?? Perfect. The reaction Light has to Ryker is intense, and hot off the page! How they manage to fight it I'll never know, cos its nearly 80% the way through before they FINALLY get to it!
The plot involving the Credence Curse turns out not to be, and there are darker forces at stake. Light gets a family reunion, a reunion with a dead (iI know, right??) friend, and then.....a CLIFF HANGER!!! Now, I was aware this would have a cliffhanger since I read some reviews beforehand, but I was so engrossed in the story, I didnt see the end coming!
What let it down was two things...Its written from Light and Ryker's point of view. This wouldn't normally put a book down, since I am a big fan of multi POV's, BUT Light is written in the first person, and Ryker, the third. WHY???? It flips from chapter to chapter, sometimes WITHIN the same chapter, its all very annoying! And secondly, the language in this book is raw, and gritty and lots of F88k words, so, when it comes to talking about parts of the male anatomy, I was expecting it to be equally gritty and raw, BUT NO!! She grabs his penis. thats the word used, penis! Not right, as far as I'm concerned, keep it in the tone of the book, go one way or the other, not both.
I will be looking out for Book Three, since there will be one, but I don't know when that will be. I have also added Book One to my wish list, as I would like to know more about Storm and Knox, and how they came to be together.

oh! one more thing! although most of the males in this book are wolf-shifters, there is no actual shifting. Not once. So, maybe, in the first book, it explains why these men fight the wolf, keeping it caged inside. -
PHAT!!!!! Pretty, hot, and tempting. This read is a pack of dynamite exploding off the pages.
There is an oil and water vibe going on between Light and Ryker, but through it all you can feel the love growing stronger. I found this to be a build to a beauty between an empath and shifter. She is an emotional wounded empath and he is the moody shifter. They are both fated to be with each other and there is nothing they can do to change that.
Venez place a connection between the two characters even placing obstacles in their way. When it comes to protection, Ryker proves to be all she needs.

Sexy, hot, fun, exciting read! Once the bugs that I encountered in the beginning were worked out this book just escalated to awesome. Yes, it may be considered a cliff hanger, but nothing serious that leaves me throwing my kindle across the room. Absolutely anxious for the next book!!

Intense!
Really intense, turning pages cuz you need to know what happens next, kind of book! I absolutely LOVE this series! I love all the different characters in the series (well not the bad guys, they give me the chills). This one has a Smoking hot Alpha with a crazya$$ fae/witch. Has some pretty hot scenes in it too. This is the 2nd book and you HAVE to read the 1st one before this one. Don't know how the author does it, one moment your smiling at the banter between the two main characters and then suddenly your thinkin- Wait! What? Noooooo! Really is that good. Read the series, it worth it, you won't be disappointed. Warning book has a - What the heck just happened? - ending. -
I had not read the first book before reading this book. It jumps right in with an introduction to all the main characters. The chemistry between them is strong and you know it is just a matter of when, not if. She is a strong person who feel weakened by her empath abilities. She drinks to control herself but it is not working anymore. He has a major fight on his hands as leader of the Others and doesn't need complications. She is not ready for commitment but he has different plans. Secrets then threaten their relationship before it can even start. Lots of action keep the story exciting. It ends with a major cliffhanger and I can't wait for the rest of the story.

Cliffhanger warning!
I thought the first book was a cliffhanger because it was part of an anthology but now this one is too. I want to know how it all gets resolved but I don't want to pay 4.99 for each additional book to get the resolution of the previous book. The story was great and up until the last page I would have completely recommended it but now I am just aggravated. The description says stand alone... It's not. I gave it 4 stars because again up until the last page it was one of the best magic/shifter books I have read in a very long time. -
Lightning is a half-witch, half-fae empath. She has a lot of struggles. When she meets Ryker the leader of the New York Wolf Shifters. Ryker knows that she is the one. Lightning has spent her whole life avoiding committed relationships. This was the second book in this series. I enjoyed these two dancing around each other, for almost the whole book. It was a slower burn romance than the previous book. I will plan on continuing this series since this one ended on a cliffhanger. I can't wait to read more.

Read it...
This story continues where Storm and Knos's ended. The plot thickens! There are so many twists in this book it made me dizzy! Light's empath issues are getting worse, and her normal paths of relief are not working.
Ryker is running into more problems with the Others peace treaty. Someone is trying to undermine everything he has accomplished, and seems to be managing it.
Great addition to what is turning out to be an exciting series! -
Readers beware
The book ends on a MAJOR cliffhanger that doesn’t look to be resolved in the next book. It’s also listed as the first book instead of the second which is why you there’s so much information you’re just supposed to know. The writing needed a better editor as well, so If I had to pay for this book I would’ve immediately asked for a refund. -

I absolutely loved this book! It’s way all the things I want in a book with enemies to lovers, paranormal, sexy flitting and a plot that had me constantly on the edge of my set! Can’t wait to read the next book to find out what happens for Light and continue these sexy Others stories! -

Cliffhanger
I don't write reviews often, but I wasn't expecting to be a cliffhanger. I prefer the resolution at the end of each book in the series, but interconnected storylines. Good story, but lost me at the cliffhanger. -
This book was fun and entertaining but I finished it feeling really misled because the info on the book specifically states that it doesn't end in a cliffhanger. This ending was the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers with the story totally not wrapping up. Readers beware.

First of all, I read the first book of the Credence Curse series age ago. So, I don't really remember what happened in the first book, but the main storyline does continue from book one. It would be best to read the first book before reading When Lightning Strikes.
Lighting is half-witch, half-fae with the power of empathy, because her power she has trouble keeping close relationships with people. When she was younger, her power actually gotten her in serious trouble. Not only that being a Credence, she is also cursed. Thus, she has no plan to established a intimate relationship with another man.
So the story continue with the missing client's list, a dead reporter, a dead employee, and dead clients on the rise. Something is not quite right here, which is an underestimate. While trying to find the person responsible for stealing the client's list, someone is out there killing the Others and stealing their organs. Meanwhile, Ryker is trying to find the people responsible for the murdering, before the peace treaty become too late to save.
->in this book we learn the truth behind the Credence curse, and the identity of Lighting's father.
Reading about Lighting and Ryker can be frustrated sometime, I have to be honest I did have a hard time to connect with L&R. Ryker tend to run hot and cold, at the beginning he flirt and clearly express his attraction for Lighting, but the next thing you know he is acting all cold and distant for no good reasons at all. At the same time Ryker gets all possessive when his packmates show interest in Lighting. While Lighting is moody throughout the book, she is also quite arrogant and to be blunt she can be bitchy sometime.
Although L&R's chemistry are out of control, but if you want to read about the sexy time, you will have to wait till the very end of the book.
->we learn the truth about Credence curse, what Lighting's power really means (just briefly ), and the Shadow's intend for to use Lighting to control the Others (also briefly).
->anyone else think is weird that Lighting's cousin's name is Reason??
->I want to learn more about Ryker's power and such!

I loved the first part of this series, and was looking forward to this novel. Somehow though it didn't grab me as much as book one, its still a good read, don't get me wrong, but there were quite a few niggles for me. I still don't like the girls mum/aunt – irritating personalities, and they seem to turn Storm and Light from ladies into truculent teenagers when they are with them, and it just feels so wrong.
Anyway, this continues the murder and break-in investigations...Light finds out more about her background, and she's in danger so local hottie wolfshifter Ryker agrees to protect her. He's Alpha of the local pack and Lord of Souls...something like that – it means he rules over all the shifters, and he's currently got his hands full broking for peace within all the different types of Others. He's got the hots for Light, but only does casual, nothing permanent for him, and his usual taste is for Submissive ladies and Light is anything but! Still, she's got it bad for him too, but hates his arrogance. Somehow though they find a way to get together and after all the hot, erotic sex talk they create lots of steam...
Knox and Storm from the last book are here too, along with half vampire lawyer Reason and a few other shifters. It's a decent read, good basic story leading on and deeper from book one, allied to a good sexy romance, but I still got irritated by the aunt and mum, Light's constant sharpness, even when people were helping her she was snarky and unappeciative and Rykers constant arrogant attitude. I understood their problems but think Light was overly rude at times. Ryker – I liked him, even though he had that Alpha arrogance, he'd been put into a position of heavy responsibility which he never wanted, but accepted as it was the right thing to do. The ending...arghh...dammit, the dreaded cliffhanger – I so HATE those...by time book three is out I've got past the momentum of the drama and it falls flat. I feel i've only got half a story, nothing is yet concluded and I feel I've just been left in limbo, hence the lower stars. Still, that's just me, others don't mind them.
Overall its a fun, sexy read, story cointiues well from book one, it has a damn cliffhanger though...

Light is a powerful empath doing her best to deal with her abilities. Along with her cousin Storm, she is the last in a line of fae witches. But Light doesn't want her gift...the ability to feel all human emotions is too much for her at times driving Light to find ways to cope. For the longest time only two things have worked, Storm and liquor...that is until Ryker, a powerful wolf pack alpha touches her. Now, Ryker is the last thing Light wants and the exact thing she needs.
Ryker has never come across a woman like Light...although he knows almost from the start she is his mate, Light denies him at every turn but Ryker doesn't worry....an alpha loves a challenge.
This book was great!! If you haven't read the first book in this series, stop reading this now and go read that one first. This is not meant to be a stand alone and you will he hopelessly lost if you try.
Now, onto Light and Ryker. These two are amazing together...great chemistry and the bantering back and forth was great. They are perfect for each other although Light fights it almost the entire book. And when they finally do give in after all that teasing....hot!

Quick hook or slow starter? 5 (I was hooked from the first chapter)
Character development: 4.5
Level of Romance between characters: 4.5
Passion/Heat level: 4.5 (chemistry is instant but a lot of teasing back and forth before they finally give in.)
Angst/Heartbreak: 4 (Ryker is trying to make peace while Light is trying to deal with her abilities, there is a lot going on.)
Cliffhanger?: O.M.G... I feel like I totally just fell of this cliff...I need the next book now!!!
Overall, I loved it but the cliffhangers in this series are killing me and keeping me from rating these books higher. I really enjoy Sedona's writing style and can't wait to read what she has in store for these characters next.

The second book in the Credence Curse series is a riveting romance that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Ryker Alfero is everything Lightning craves but shouldn’t want, but as the danger around them escalates and war threatens, she finds it hard to resist the tattooed and dangerous wolf shifter.
This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers intrigued and tense with anticipation with action, suspense, drama, humor and romance. The author brings the story to life with well written scenes and details that capture the imagination and the tension builds throughout the story as Ryker and Light try to determine just who is causing all the deaths and trying to start a war between the others. The characters are strong, compelling, easily related to and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.
The chemistry between Light and Ryker radiates lots of heat from every page and the sexual tension builds into a fiery inferno of passion, but the relationship is what has fireworks exploding throughout the story. Light has not only been extremely hurt in the past, but her abilities causes her lots of issues that make trusting anyone difficult and Ryker wants her total submission. The reader can’t help but get caught up in the drama and sometimes humorous romance as these two have a battle of wills not only with each other, but with themselves as well.
The bad guys have a ruthless agenda that causes a lot of excitement and intrigue and the author keeps the readers guessing with lots of twists and turns. This book was more forthcoming with information and to me had a lot more depth to the story than the first one. Don’t get me wrong the first one was good, but this one is better although, I am upset about the major cliffhanger ending and that I have to wait for the next book. -
This is the first time I've read anything from this author, but it certainly won't be the last!
Lightning Credence certainly lives up to her name. She is a hybrid fae-witch and she believes she has the Credence curse and lives her life shielding herself in alcohol. She is the only one of her kind that has this particular ability. Is this ability a curse, or is it a gift? She drowns herself in alcohol so she doesn't have to feel them, then along comes this obnoxious, sexy Alpha and suddenly she doesn't need the alcohol to stop the bad feelings anymore.
Ryker Alfero is Alpha to the most powerful pack in NYC and more powerful than all the Others, but when he first sees Lightning he is taken aback. He can have any woman he wants, but he wants no other just Lightning. Only she is a hellcat and he is going to have to work very hard to win her over.. He's never had a woman say no to him before, but he is up for the challenge and boy is she ever a challenge.
Will they be able to stop the evil that wants Lightning and what is so special about her that he is willing to start an all out war among the Others to get her.
I have to admit that at the beginning of the story I was confused and thought, "oh no it's going to be one of those", but as I read on it all became very clear and from there on I could not put the my kindle down.
I really enjoyed the love, hate relationship between Lightning and Ryker, it is totally consuming and sparks fly when they come together. Will Ryker be able to tame his hellcat and will Lightning be able to control the beast?
I am anxious to continue their story. Thank you Ms. Venez for the great story and I look forward to the next.

Light is an empath, wounded by the malicious and controlling love life with her ex Nolan. Light uses massive amounts of alcohol to soften the effects of her empathic abilities. She moves through guys like water through a stream. She isn’t looking for anything permanent and only sleeps with guys she can control with just a look. She has her work cut out for her when fate decides that Ryker is her mate.
Ryker is a moody alpha werewolf. He knows the affect that Light has on him and his affect on her, but will not bring a woman who won’t show her true self into his bed. He knows she’s meant to be his mate, but until she can come to terms with her abilities and inner demons, he won’t be another notch on her bedpost. When Light is sent to him for protection from an evil group wanting to capture her, Ryker will do anything he can to keep her and her hell on wheels hell cat ways safe.
HOLY sex on a stick…this book is amazing! The sexual tension between Light and Ryker is nearly melted the pages off my Nook. I have never had a short book (140 pages) grab my attention more than an hour. This book was so good it took me nearly 3.5 hours to devour its every steamy word. I would like to THANK netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this novel. Sedona Venez’s characters and steamy scenes has managed to knock some of my regular book boyfriends down a few positions. This series needs to move to the VERY top of your reading list!!! -
Light is an empath who can get overwhelmed by human emotions. She uses to drink and sleep with people to stop it but now with the help of Storm shes able to rein in the feelings. When Storm isnt that Light comes to find that Ryker is able to help dull those intense feelings. Only thing is the both are like Oil and water and seem to fight each other but want each other. Ryker is going through stress trying to fix with family ruined as a alpha and he seems to have finally found his mate, a women who seems to infuriate and attract him. Problem is a war is starting to brew and Ryker can't seem to tame Light and keep her from trouble.
Fast paced, steamy, and action packed, just the way I like it. I loved that there was enough drama, twists and turns to keep the readers wanting more. I loved that Light was witty, clever, at times sure of whats she wants and is able to fight for herself. I loved the undeniable attraction between Ryker and Light. I loved that there was so much going on that there was never a dull moment. I loved how unique this book as well as the previous book was. Another thing that I loved about this book was that I got the point of view from both Ryker and Light so I got to see each character
The only thing that sucks is that cliffhanger and knowing I'll have to wait to get the next book. 5 of 5 stars!
