Tim Sale delivers on the premise. I've really only read his Batman books - and there's some Batman stories here too. But I especially like the stuff that's in the hard-boiled Parker style.

Essential for fans of Tim Sale.

Tim Sale is one of my favourite comic book artists. I guess he is *my favourite* artist. For example, I would have never wanted to read any Marvel comics if Tim Sale & Jeph Loeb haven't created the "colour series". Tim Sale's art has quickly grown on me after the first few panels from Batman: The Long Halloween. He has a fancy weird way of drawing Batman. His extremely distinctive style compulsed me to follow his work, and search for this Solo issue.

The book is a collection of very short stories written by different writers (including Sale himself and of course his buddy Jeph Loeb). The writing was okay and the art was very good as usual, but the story titled "Low Card in the Hole" - written by Frank Azzarello - was a fantastic piece of noir art. It was like a piece of Sin City but with the magical touch of my favorite artist ever: Time Sale.

Tim Sale is possibly my favourite comics artist, so it's certainly a good way to start the anthology. As the stories are written by different authors they vary greatly. It was with Christina that I realised the series wasn't going to be limited to DC characters, but just a chance for short stories to be told in the comics medium. Two themes run through this issue though, love and crime giving the whole issue a film noir feel which just fits Sale so well.

3* - Read only the Supergirl story as it finishes the cliffhanger ending of Daring New Adventures of Supergirl Vol. 2.
