3.5 Stars!
This was my first Devyn Dawson book. I liked it, but I didn't LOVE it. It was pretty well written although I found that the further I got in to the story, the cheesier the dialogue got. From Caide, the hero, especially. The story is told in alternating POVs....between Caide and River.
Caide loses his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his daughter to a drug overdose. The story begins at her funeral. Caide is a local celebrity chef of sorts with his own cooking show. At the time of Heather's (the ex) death, she and their daughter Lucy were living with Heather's parents. After Heather's death they attempt to get full custody of Lucy.
Caide fights for custody of Lucy. He's ordered by the court to take Al Anon and parenting classes. He meets River at Al Anon, she's the sponsor. River had an alcoholic mom and was in an abusive relationship that she disappeared from. An unfortunate incident at a club brings Caide and River even closer together. The more time that they spend together the more they realize they like each other.
But when accidents start happening around them.....to River's house and business....they start to question what is going on. Is it someone from River's past? Is it connected to the incident at the club?? Will it bring River and Caide closer together or tear them apart?? Will it affect Caide getting Lucy back???
Like I said....it was good, not great. It was a standalone with a HEA. It was a sweet story, with not a lot of angst and a few sexy scenes. It was a quick, short read. -
Cry Me a River by Devyn Dawson
Rating 5*****
This book was provided from the author in exchange for honest literary review.
Caide thought that burying his first real love was the worst possible day of his life. He was wrong. The worst possible day of his life was he day after the funeral when he was served with custody papers from her parents trying to keep him from his daughter.
Caide kept his life simple. He loved the ladies and the ladies loved him. He loved the beach life and parties as well. Once the judge laid down the law for him to be able to see his little girl, his whole life turned upside down. He was ordered to Alanon classes, parenting classes, and intense scrutiny of his life.
One step into Alanon, and Caide runs into River. Damaged from a life with an alcoholic mother and abusive ex boyfriend, River is at the very least suspicious and often cynical. From the very first it seems she has Caide's number.
This is such an awesome story. I couldn't help but love River. With all she has been through, she keeps on going forward which is amazing. She is strong, but in a silent and endearing way. Caide is yummy as well. Nothing sexier than a bad boy who cooks to relieve stress cooking. The fact he is fighting so hard to be a father is a definite add to the awww swoon factor.
This is a great contemporary romance. It flows well and has all the great ingredients for a steamy recipe. The characters have great depth and loveable personalities. It ie one of those books you sit down with and finish in the same sitting. I couldn't put it down. It just kept getting better and better
This is am awesome adult contemporary romance. A must read for readers 18+ and one you can read over and over and love it the same.

This was a very well written story, really easy to follow.
Caide comes across as a bit of a jerk at first, just interested in getting drunk & having sex. However after his ex girlfriend dies of an accidental overdose, he is caught up in a custody battle for his daughter with his girlfriends parents.
This is when Caide grows up. He has to attend parenting classes & Al Anon meetings. He meets River Murphy at the Al Anon, where she becomes his sponsor and friend.
The chemistry between them is electric. They work so well together.
This could of been a very depressing story, due to the background, but it turns into a great story with lots of twists and turns.
Really enjoyable read. I'd like to know more abut how Caide & River get on. -
This story kept me up until I finished in the early morning. The writing style sucked me in wanting to learn more and watch these characters develop. Caide is swoon worthy and a strong man for what he is going through at a young age. He has become protective of River and what is happening to her. Is it because if what he dealt with in his past? Regardless, this story is about loss, pain, hope and moving forward. Thank you for a great read!

Caide finds out the hard way he'snot done his best at being a father when his childs mother od's. Caide is sent to al anon meetings, taught by River, who sweeps him off his feet. I enjoyed the romance and action that was placed throughout the book. You knew the ending from the beginning, but the author suprised me with who was behind the action scenes. All around good, quick read!

Cry Me A River was a fabulous read. River and Cade's story captivates you from start to finished. I like how the characters are strong enough and fight for the things that matters to them and never gives up. Just wonderful!!!!

Steamy. But this is not just a novel about sex--there are some real adult conflicts going on. How nice to have a sexy (did I mention steamy?!) novel with a real storyline and not just guy digs girl, guy lands girl theme.
A more detailed review will be up soon... -
I might have teared up at the end =)

Caide is definitely a 5 star man. He is faithful, loving, and supportive. He cooks too! Has some tattoos and sounds hot. I read for happy endings so thanks Devyn for the read. Enjoyed!

Nice, quick read.
I really liked this book. It was a little predictable but overall a good read. It was good enough that I was anxious to read it each day to find out what was going to happen with Cause and River.
