What's a Girl to Do? (Indecent Proposals # 1) Reviews

Loads of woman don't do one night stands, it seems either too dirty or too slutty. Some even think it too dangerous simply because she might just actually fall for the guy after one night and that is beyond her control and will simply just never, ever do!

One such woman is Shey Lopez, but her worst nightmare has just made his appearance or should I say her sexiest, hottest, hunkiest and most delicious dream come to life. Now what is a girl to do, jump the guy and the feelings of possible attachment be dammed? Or walk away and never know if you just made the mistake of your life?

One thing is for sure if this author's character of Calvin Jones was the number one temptation standing in front of me I would be begging to be his number object of affection.

The character of Shey was terrific as the author really touched a lot of real life aspects through her, the same aspects as most woman of today face the" do I or don't I, best sex ever or new man and possibly bad sex " Along with this the character of Shey's emotions were so vivid I could completely feel in touch with her up's and down's, it felt as if I could touch her uncertainties. I loved that she tries so hard to stay true to herself even whilst knowing she is losing the battle.

The character of Calvin was HAWT! But also very complex with emotions of uncertainty, and of course classic hot guy not wanting to be tied down feelings, but realising very soon that he cannot live without Shey. I loved that he not just a hot body, he is one of those hero's that digs to get to the inside of the heroine's mind and her feelings, even going so far as to try and set a bad personal relationship back on the right path.

The backdrop settings and dialogue was all passion, sexy hot, sensual and oh so very kinky! I loved every single minute of this read. I am taking away a message of letting go and for once trying to go after what you need and want is sometimes the best you can do, yes you could get hurt along the way but you might also find the one person that makes you stronger. Also that if you cannot live without someone, then don't, if it is within your reach to get them back, don't waste time go get them!

If you do not like erotica I am going to urge you to read this book anyway, yes it does have swear words, yes there is kink and a lot of it and yes if you are not use to it you might feel a little uncomfortable, but if you focus on the level of intensity the author uses to bring across her characters, the plot and the outcome you will instantly not only fall in love with her writing but with Shey and Calvin , they will stay in your memory for a long time as a couple that will certainly make it and have loads of fun along their path of romance. I am not saying you will switch over to erotica full time after reading this book, but this read will definitely make you wonder what you have been missing.

Join the naughty girls club with this author you will be more than pleasantly turned on, I mean surprised ! Bring on number two Aimee, I want more. Awesome read!

This novella was great. I really liked the chemistry between Shey and Calvin. To say it was hot, would be an understatement. I wasn't expecting much from this novella...I thought it would be like so many other erotica novellas...but it had depth to it. Shey and Calvin were so sure of what they wanted from each other...sex...for 2 weeks..and then they'd walk away...what they didn't count on was the extremely dangerous connection they felt to each other. I was sure it would be predictable but i'm happy with how it ended...I would have liked to see how Shey and Felicity's relationship changes towards the end...other than that, I'd love to read more of the series...

What's a Girl to Do? (Indecent Proposals #1) by Aimée Duffy

After reading and loving 'Sinfully Summer' I couldn't wait to see what Ms Duffy could do with an erotic romance and I wasn't disappointed.

What's a Girl to Do? is a scalding hot read. What makes it memorable is the romance.

Unwanted by her supermodel mother Shey's attitude to men, sex and relationships is tainted. The need to control every variable means Shey's romantic encounters lack spontaneity.

Player Calvin hides a fragile heart. Devastated by his ex wife. He vows he will never lose his heart, reputation or wealth to a woman again.

The scene is set the control freak meets the ice man.

Their first encounter will make you shiver and remember. The humour and sexual tension are beautifully written.

Despite her tangible fear Shey loses control in the most intimate way possible. Shey agrees to a relationship but only with rules. Calvin forgoes his dating embargo. He can't risk losing her. He wants her subservient but soon finds the tables turned on him. Love the taxi ride.

Their romance is driven by emotion not lust shown by the sacrifices they both make.

As a novella this story is a teaser but reaches a satisfying conclusion. Perfect for a little late night reading or on the way to work. Just remember sighing on public transport may draw some funny looks. :-)

I received an ARC from HarperCollins UK, HarperImpulse via NetGalley for an honest review.

Another superb read from author Aimee Duffy! This is pure escapism of the super steamy kind. Yes this short story is erotic and incredibly hot, but teamed with Mz Duffy’s wonderful way with words it’s also a story with depth and emotion.

Shey Lopez is very career driven and a woman who knows exactly what she wants. Her career is a stepping stone to the glitz and the glam – so why not have fun on the way? Teamed with her loyal house-mates Shey likes nothing more than to let her self go. But only so far. Fear and a lack of trust makes her decline the proposition of a sexy stranger. She won’t agree to a one night stand, even though he sets her insides on fire. If he wants her he has to agree to Shey’s rules.

Calvin (make-me-drool) Jones doesn’t do dating, and his past makes him steer clear of committment. But he can’t get Shey out of his mind. He wants her bad. Enough to agree to getting to know each other first. Shey’s uncertainty and Calvin’s persistence make this read sizzling as unavoidable emotion weaves its way into their temporary relationship, making it so much more than off the charts sex.

This book was my first journey into erotica. Yes it made me blush, but that wasn’t the reason why I enjoyed it so much. It was the discovery of what happened when both Shey and Calvin were able to let themselves go and drop down their trust lacking walls.

  • Melinda

I think maybe I was expecting something different. I have zero issues with erotica, but I was expecting more of a plot with it. The sex scenes were well done and had heat to them. I saw flashes of a good plot in the scenes with Shey's mom but those flashes were too brief for me.

A very short novella set in the world of women's magazines.

The reader follows the adventures of Shey undergoing the crap of her superior while doing a good job. At least that is how LB is described, because in reality, he only gives some quite short deadlines to his assistant... No situation is really overwhelming. Maybe it was just to make the reader sympathize with the heroin...  Personally, I was not moved!

One day at work, Shey spot a gorgeous player: Calvin. He is hot as sin but has some bagage. He just get divorce from a wife who left him on the straw. From this experience, he fears to trust a woman again and prefer to have one night stand with no strings.
As for Shey, she was conceived by mistake after a bit of nooky unprotected. So, she is afraid to get attach to avoid looking like her bitchy mother.

Nothing memorable in this story, or in the characters. The story is quite short, the two heroes fall in love too quickly and solve all their problems in a snap. I'm certainly unfair, because the story is not bad, but the heroes have some heavy personal baggage that miraculously evaporate after a few days in the company of each other. I know that love can overcome all the issues...what's the hell ?

No time either to get attached on the characters that the story is already over. So I would say this is a perfect story for a subway ride during which the reader want to be entertained without thinking too much.

What's a girl to do is a fast-paced, sexy and sophisticated read. It follows the undeniably pent up and sexually frustrated pair that are glamorous fashion mag intern Shey Lopez who is frightened to death of relationships and turning into her mother. And, property tycoon Calvin Jones who's got the body and face of a god, but a heart that has been torn apart and trampled on. Together we watch an explosive and extremely sexy spark ignited between them both putting us on the edge of our seats impatiently waiting to see how on earth these two are going to release their frustrations and their demons.

I seriously no word of a lie read this book in just over an hour. It is a book that straight away drags you into the pages and closes the book around you so you can't escape. It's a wild and spontaneous, erotic and naughty romance story that I absolutely loved. It's not at all crude or non believable it is a really well written erotica/chick lit book that I recommend highly to you all. I cannot wait to get my hands-on book number two in the indecent proposal series. I don't even want to wait I want HarperImpulse to just send me them now because if they're anything like this one, then I know we're all in for a treat.

Girls get your wine out your PJ's on and get stuck into this sexy little minx.

4 1/2 star sizzler of a novella! Great Start to a New Romance Trilogy!

WHAT’S A GIRL TO DO?, book one of the Indecent Proposals Trilogy by Aimée Duffy is an adventure in falling in love. From the first moments their eyes meet, to their surprise that they are falling in love, learning to trust, and willing to sacrifice for each other, straight to the end with declarations of love, Shey and Calvin suck us in and keep us turning the pages. This trilogy is labeled erotic romance and yes, it’s sexy, steamy, and might not be for everyone but mild in comparison to some that make you sweat while reading.

WHAT’S A GIRL TO DO? by Aimée Duffy is a romance built on mutual desire born from an agreement to have sex for sex’s sake and nothing more, but where the body desires, so sometimes does the heart. It’s erotic but not over the top, it’s romantic and definitely over the top, and a delightful read that will have you begging for more. I highly recommend reading this fabulous start to a new series coming to us from a talented author in the UK.

Sex in the City meets well, sex. Actually his name is Calvin and he’s an alpha male of the well to do variety (this is Manhattan and erotic romance after all). Shey Lopez isn’t looking for love, in fact she avoids it at all costs, good thing too because Calvin isn’t either. But there’s always an exception to the rule.

What’s a Girl to Do is a fast paced, erotic romance. It is part of a series, although it can be read as a standalone. However it feels like it will be more of an anthology, since it introduces Shey and her two roommates. I liked that the heroine, Shey gives as good as she gets. The bedroom/boardroom/limo scenes are hot, hot, hot. Calvin is a strong hero that is a little gun shy. Their relationship starts off as a trial run that develops rather quickly given their apprehension. I didn’t really get the instant attraction. I love, love at first sight stories too, but it seems like there was a missing piece to the story when they first meet. Some of the pillow talk was a little awkward, (“once he cleared the juices”) but that is a minor takeaway. What’s a Girl to Do? Read this book for one; it’s a hot, quick read.

Shey doesn't want to make the same mistake that her mother made, she doesn't do one night stands and only will be in a relationship that she can control. Calvin had one marriage go bad and doesn't do relationships, what happens when the two of them can't resist each other and an indecent proposal turns into something more? This novella was a quickie, bad pun but a good read. Normally with novellas I don't get really attached to the characters, there short and you don't get that back story to connect, but there was something about this one that grabbed me. I was impressed with how the author packed so much into the story without it being overwhelming. It had the perfect balance of hot sex with a little kink, emotional turmoil and great characters that make this novella a great read.

I've loved all of Aimee Duffy's books to date and this was no exception.
A story that starts with tequila has to be good! And with a Brad Pitt look alike and Prada stilettos I was hooked. This is a great quick read, the sparks were flying between sexy Calvin and Shey right from the start and they never stopped (well not for long). I read this in one sitting and am looking forward to book 2.

A quick fun read, and I liked the girls' friendship.

Not to mention, now that she's working, her boss piles his supposed-work on her table and let her work on it. She was over-worked, underpay and have no time for any relationship, most especially one night stands.

Calvin Jones doesn't want a relationship either, nor he wants monogamy. He had done it with relationships after his messy divorce. It was some hell that he didn't want to go through again. All he wanted was one hard f***. No strings. No commitments. Now if he can only convince Shey.

It took one touch for the whole thick tension to blow into their faces. It was totally HOT! Good thing Calvin is very persuasive and doesn't take no for an answer - he doesn't even force her. I understood why Shey is insecure and has her doubts, but I like her still. She was a nice person and tried her best to stand her ground. But Calvin - he was just irresistible. If looking at him makes heart flutter, him touching, tasting her nearly brought her heart attack.

The sex just gets better, Calvin gets closer, her mother came into the picture and her boss is being an a**. Her plate is full, her emotions are in turmoil, and she was not sure what to do with Calvin.

Question is, until when? Can she be able to separate her feelings from sex? Will what they have ever be enough?

It's short, sexy, sweet and a whole lot of hotness. The steamy scenes will have your heart racing and panties melting. What's a Girl to Do? Isn't just about sex. This is a story about a girl who finally found the courage to live life, take risk and fall in love. If the first book is this nice, I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Shey is a hot, curvaceous woman who doesn't do one night stands, thanks to her mother's teachings she had first hand knowledge. Calvin is a rich, playboy who is wary of commitment since his ex-wife took him to the cleaners in their divorce.

Shey first meets Calvin at her work; Shey is instantly attracted to Calvin but knows he is a player and she knows he is not for her.Calvin can't believe she is unaffected by his charm, so he makes it his mission to get her in his bed.

Shey finally agrees to a 2 week affair with Calvin in the hopes that they will get each other out of their systems. But,like all good intentions this backfires and Shey realizes she was never able to keep her emotions out of their affair.

In the end, Calvin has to decide whether he can trust Shey and allow himself to love her, or if he should let her go and stomach the thought of her with someone else.

Overall this book was a short, steamy read. Shey and Calvin had great chemistry and both characters were likable. Shey has a hard time trusting men because she was the result of her mothers unwanted pregnancy. While, Calvin is gun shy when it comes to relationships because his ex-wife only cared about his money and left him with nothing in the divorce. But together they learn to get over their hang-ups and give the other a chance. This is the first book I have read by Aimée Duffy but it will definitely not be the last. I can't wait to read the next installment in the series.

Oh Aimee....Another hero to LOVE and a heroine who could be my bestie!

I simply adored WHAT'S A GIRL TO DO?, and I can't wait for the rest of the books in the series.

Almost forgot the SMOKIN HOT KINKY TEASING SEX....I likey!!

    Full Review:

I would like to start off by saying....OH MY!! Ms. Duffy...How naughty you are....hee hee. I am kidding, it's only a little kinky...and it's tasteful and sexy all wrapped in a whole lotta sexual tension and lust!

Shey and Calvin are such a hot couple...the sting of awareness hit them both at first sight and for Calvin who is used to getting what he wants...well...let's just say, the fun is in the chase...and it is even more fun when you get what you want...but I think Shey and Calvin both get more than they ever bargained for, and so much more than they ever thought they needed/or wanted.

Not only was this romance HOT and SPICY (but what else can you expect from the Master who is Ms. Duffy), but you get a heartfelt romance, and two lost souls finding one another when neither knew they were looking. I love these kind of romances, where the love builds and then slaps you across the face...and the hero and heroine don't know what to do with all these feelings that aren't supposed to be there. When "JUST A GOOD TIME" turns to "FOREVER KIND OF LOVE"....Swoon....and Cal....he is a True Hero...and a good guy.

I am so excited to see where Aimee takes this series...we will see!! Maybe some Hanky Panky in the House of Mirrors...Huh Aimee....Maybe?? (XOXO)

In this novella that is short yet steamy we learn that sex is never simple and that once the heart becomes involved things get even more complicated. For Shey, who's ignored and judged by her mother and overburdened by her boss, life has become endlessly unsatisfying and has made her long to take control to make it better. This need for control is especially apparent in matters of sex where she wants nothing more than a steamy interlude with no sloppy emotions involved. Once she sees the sexy and charming Calvin though it's hard to keep her feelings out of their time together.

Calvin is still recovering from a messy divorce and wants no emotions to get in the way of his one-night stands. At least that's what he wants until he lays eyes on Shey. He then throws his plans away, convincing her to engage in a friends with benefits relationship, and undertakes a sensual and super steamy journey to win her over and show her how much fun giving up control can mean.

These two are electric together and their sexual interludes are hot and freeing, along with a bit of kink. These two people are emotionally scarred by their pasts and to reach their HEA they must put their pasts behind them. There's a playful and exciting chemistry between them and though the story moves at an almost too brisk pace I still found their evolving relationship satisfying. I enjoyed the overall storyline and how much punch was packed into this short story and look forward to the next installment in this series.

What's a Girl to Do? by Aimee Duffy was a light and fun read with a heavy dose of sexy!

It was quite fun to watch Shey fight her sizzling attraction to Calvin even though it was clear from the start that her resistance wasn't going to last very long. Shey also had a great set of girlfriends, Eloisa & Georgia, as a support system and I'm excited for both of their stories. While reading I thought the story kept a good pacing throughout. Shey and Calvin sounded like realistic characters and were also easily likeable. I really found no fault with them. They had their own issues regarding getting involved in a relationship, but I was glad that they took the plunge and took the risk on each other and acted against their fears.

As for the chemistry I thought it was pretty well written...yet something was missing for me. Although I liked Shey and Calvin, their story just wasn't really grabbing my full interest. Furthermore, while reading some parts felt as if it was reserved on a telling basis, rather than showing and for that it lost me during some parts.

Overall, What's a Girl to Do? was my first introduction to Aimee Duffy's writing and I liked it. With that said, I'll be on the lookout for the other stories in this series.

What's a Girl to Do is the first novella in a new series by Aimee Duffy. This was a quick read and was pretty light on the angst but it was full of hot sexual tension. Shey Lopez has her dream job. She is working for one of the most elite magazines in the city. Shey has it all; beautiful looks, great friends and a job that she has worked hard to get. What she doesn't have is a one night stand. Shey doesn't do one night stands, at all. Her mother ruined her by constantly reminding her that one night stands end up in a lifetime of misery. So when sexy as sin Calvin Jones walks into her life she doesn't know how to handle herself. I can't say that I would either because Calvin is everything you want in a man. He is sexy, sweet, thoughtful, and rich. What more could you ask for?! A relationship, that is what you could ask for, except Calvin has sworn off relationships. He was hurt so bad previously that he refuses to even think about giving it a shot again. Here is where the predicament comes into play. Shey is instantly attracted to Calvin and vice versus except Shey doesn't do one night stands and Calvin doesn't do relationships. I enjoyed seeing how they overcame this issue and and finding out all the secrets that each of them held.

ARC supplied by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

This is a fairly short read - good for saving for when you know you have a couple of hours spare - and at times I felt that maybe the story would have benefited from being a little longer, especially the ending - I wanted to know if they married and if Shey managed to heal the rift with her mother.

Having said that, Aimee Duffey has produced an enjoyable story even if she has followed the rather safe format of very rich man with trust issues meets pretty girl with issues of her own. He basically wants a one night stand (or maybe a little more), she doesn't do sex unless she's in a relationship.

Eventually they agree to a kind of friends with benefits deal with a finite length. Of course as is usually the way with this type of story that was never going to work as planned.

There was some rather sizzling bedroom (and other room) scenes, so this book is definitely not for under 18s or those of a nervous disposition, and these were also well written.

All in all a nice little story that was worth reading and I will be looking out for the next book in the series.

Holy hot! That’s what this short novella is! Wow, Aimee Duffee definitely knows how to make a reader need a cold shower! In What’s A Girl To Do we meet Shey and Calvin. Shey is weary of relationships, and trusting men with her heart after all she’s been put through by her mother, and isn’t interested in a one night stand. Calvin is HOT HOT HOT and has a past that also allows him to not open his heart or be in any type of relationship.

When the two meet, sparks fly, and they can’t deny it, but are either of them willing to give in? Its great reading the struggle between the two, and the feelings they don’t want to have but can’t stop.

I really enjoyed this novella! It was a short quick, and HOT read for the long Labor Day Weekend. I absolutely loved Aimee Duffy’s story telling, and her writing grabbed me from the get-go. I knew going into this book, it was a quick read (novella) but someone I feel as if she told a whole full length story in just a few pages. I was left wanting more, but not disappointing in the story at all!

I am looking forward to book 2 and encourage all of you to pick up this HOT read, you won’t regret it!

This book is a quick read. It will hold your interest all the way through and leave you wanting more.

Shey is focused on her career. She doesn't want a relationship because he has learned to never depend in anyone. She doesn't do casual sex because she doesn't want to end up pregnant and alone like her mom did. So when she meets Calvin, and he wants to hook up so tries to avoid him. He is always around and breaking down her walls. Can they set a limit to their time together and not fall for each other?

Calvin DOES NOT do relationships. He learned from his marriage that you can't trust anyone. He knows the instant he sees Shey, that he should just walk away, but he is attracted to her and wants her. He doesn't take the answer No very well. He continues to bump into her wearing her down till she agrees to have a sexually relationship only. Can they both come out of this commitment unscathed? Or will one or both have broken hearts?

This book is part of a series and ends on a cliff hanger. This book was very enjoyable and I can't wait to find out more on Shey and Calvin!!!

Ready for a little hot read? I have one right here for you. Aimee Duffy pens another fantastic read...and boy is it full of heat, well rounded characters, and dialog that will have you smiling and panting for more. Oh yes, this author definitely has a way with words.

The first in a hot, exciting new series, What's a Girl to Do? is a quick read that I enjoyed very much! Shey, the heroine is sassy and a woman who knows what she wants! Oh and she's definitely ready to take it all on.

Then we have Calvin. He's had enough of the heartbreak. So yeah, he puts up a wall that he doesn't want anyone to get through. Hmm...he's in for it when Shey comes into his life. The attraction is hot! Emotions are heightened. These two might find so much more than they bargained for- which is going to be a whole lot more than the scorching sex. Could it be? A happily ever after in the cards? Why not check this book out to find out for yourself? Oh, and grab a fan :)

Once again, Aimee Duffy lays on the emotion, the wit and the scorching sex. Fantastic read.

I adored this book! Aimee Duffy's first erotic does not disappoint. If you liked Fifty Shades of Grey, you’ll love this. If you hated Fifty Shades, give this one a try. Calvin is the perfect alpha in my opinion, hot, arrogant, cocky, but never rude or cruel. At no point do I want to slap him. In fact, I want quite the opposite. He's quite sexy, and to top it off, he’s wounded. I'm a sucker for a wounded hero. Shey isn't your typical heroine. She's feisty, but real, complete with her own wounds, and she has a figure that’s not perfect. The two of them together? Oh my. Aimee Duffy burns up the pages. These two are hot hot hot, the story pulls you along, and the ending is deeply satisfying. A must read.

His self-assured tone grated on her, but she knew now he could back up the words. ‘I’m not coming over.’

‘Then maybe you could return the favor now.’
    He didn’t mean…

‘Slide your hand beneath your panties and tell me how ready you are for me.’

    Oh my God, he did.

    ‘Shey, do it.’

‘I…’ She fisted her hand before she did what he asked. This was—

‘Stop thinking. Do you want to know where my hand is?’

What’s A Girl To Do? was such a fun, sweet and very quick read. Like most young women, Shey wanted to be out of mother’s shadow and what better place is there to do that than New York City with her girlfriends? Dating woes, conflict at work, and loads of HOT sex makes this quite enjoyable!

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of What’s A Girl To Do? in exchange for an honest review.

This isn't the genre I usually read. However, having read Sinfully Summer by this author and loving it, when I saw this book for free on Amazon I decided to give it a go. What's a Girl to do was a short steamy read. I liked the characterisations, the build up in the relationship and how the characters grew together. It was definitely a hot read and had its moments that made me smile. I definitely wished it was longer but at least there are more novellas in the series for me to buy!

  • C.J. Fallowfield

A short novella, first in a series, revolving around the instant chemistry between Shey and Calvin who meet at Shey's place of employment, a fashion magazine. They decide to embark on a time limited two weeks sexual relationship, but you can see that both are actually wanting more, but issues from their past are holding them back. Nice characters, descriptive but short sex scenes. I'll happily check out book 2 if it's reasonably priced.

    that was a quick book!!
    Calvin and Shey (h)

I liked the maturity of both characters. we also just got to know just enough of The secondary characters for them to be believable - bosses, mother, secretary, friends.

I don't think it was explained why Shey lives with roommates which seemed strange for a girl with her career.

Read in about 5 hours. as I mentioned it is a quick book. there wasn't much time for angst and there was a lot of upfront and honest moments which I'm a fan of. HEA.

I will be taking a look at the next book in the series.
