Besides some dabbling with the Spanda Karikas which sits by my bed and peaks my interest from time to time, this was my first real foray into Shaivism and it was absolutely amazing. I read a chapter outloud each night for a month in order to get the full resonance of what was being said which just added to the simplicity and power of the message. The easiest way for me to boil this one down is that we are all simply a part of Shiva/God and everything we see, feel, do is simply an illusion that was can choose to bring us closer to or further from this realization. Even better (for me anyway) is that knowledge of this does not take becoming an ascestic and disappearing into the woods or to the top of a mountain for a lifetime, we can truly know this in our day to day mundane lives. For anyone on a spiritual path that is interested in a refresher in what it all means, this is a great place to start. Further recommendations always appreciated!

One of the first of the Siddha books I read. It was competing with Krsna books for me, which are excellent but have their bias for devotion to the particular form of Lord Krsna. Baba's Siddhas are impersonalist and worship God without form. Baba's voice was hard to hear next to Prabhupada's devotion but I was interested in this path more than the Krsnas whose opposition to abortion and rules regarding sexuality and drugs (including caffeine) were difficult for me.
There is quite a bit of Shaivist worship and philosophy in the book. I recommend this book to have in hand as a reference when you hear terms from Shaivism like abhasa or malas or any number of Shaivist concepts one may be shallow in understanding.

A very good book. But yoy are better off digging out the sacred scriptures of Kashmir Shaivism, which are available in full translation.

A wonderful compendium on Kashmir Shivaism. I read this as I was first introduced to the yoga and found it ecstatic. And now as I read it again I marvel at Baba’s divine perspective on fundamental concepts. The vision of a Sadguru who is also disciple is blissful.
