Welcome to my world.
What started out as a strange assignment, led to one of the most gruesome murder mysteries of our times. My friends and I are set and determined to find out who is killing off Fae and Witches alike.
Couple of problems in the way – I hate the Fae and the Prince of the Dark Fae is bound and determined that I work for him. He’s a rude, overbearing egotistical ass with a compulsive need to possess, dominate and control me. Oh—did I mention that he is absolutely sex-on-a-stick gorgeous and he makes me feel things that I never ever wanted to feel for a Fae... every time he touches me or looks at me with those dangerous golden eyes he seems to pull me further in under his spell, despite my better judgment.
My friends and I can’t trust anyone and nothing is as it seems on the surface—not even me.

5 Scorching Hot Stars!
Fighting Destiny by Amy Hutchins is the first book in The Fae Chronicles
What an absolutely fun and exciting introduction to a series
The first book packs a serious punch, we're introduced to Syn, as she and her coven take on a very difficult assignment; what starts out as a very challenging assignment turns into something completely different and unexpected.
When Syn and the Dark Prince meet, their relationship is complex... They might not like each other but they have this inexplicable attraction, two sworn enemies who can't keep their hands off each other. Now when I say they couldn't keep their hands off each other I'm was serious, when it comes to these two together, they don't need much to set them off.
Syn is a witch, the only thing she cares about is avenging her parents death and protecting her coven. She hates everything about the Fae especially the Prince of the Dark Fae, Ryder.
When they meet, she's horrified at the attraction she feels for him, and avoids him at all costs. Too bad he won't let her.
Ryder is the prince of the dark fae, he's ruthless and unpredictable. When he sees Syn, he might not like her but that won't stop him from having her. Her resistance makes the chase even better. His past is a mystery and as the story progresses we get clues and insight giving us a tiny picture of why he does the things he does...
Syn and Ryder suffered from a serious case of "I hate you so much that I wanna f#ck you" syndrome. Their anger would always lead to them mauling each other against some surface, and I absolutely loved it!
I'm not a huge fan of Syn (she was little bit too blonde and beautiful) but her personality complimented Ryder's perfectly. Ryder was the perfect alpha male in my opinion, he was over bearing, rude and 100% hot!
If you're looking for a fun and sexy PNR, this is it! The first book in the series was unputdownable! -
Maybe it's the cover but I honestly wasn't expecting this to be very good but it was free so I downloaded it on my kindle to read anyways. The story line kept me engaged the whole time though and the pacing was really good. It's excellent for what it is which is a fantasy/erotica novel and the only thing I found wanting was the writing but again even though it was slightly juvenile it works because it's not really a literature book it works fine in its genre. Definitely want to read the next one in the series.

A new paranormal romance series that thank God, proved to be so much more!
We are living in a new reality where supernatural creatures made their existence known to mankind. Now it's a different world where vampires bump freely into the night, the Guild of Witches keep people safe and Fae rule them all with an iron hand. Dangerous, lethal and seductive they are a dream and a nightmare at the same time and they know how to keep their secrets...
In this world, Synthia is a member of the Guild, an orphan that everyone she gets close to, dies. A badass witch with a grudge against all Fae and determined to see them fall.
Ryder the Dark Prince of the Fae has his own agenda and he is lethal as he is seductive. A man of many secrets, primal and dangerous.
She should run but I'd catch her. I always catch my prey. I take because I can, because no one else can stop me. I am what she fears. I can smell it coming off her in succulent waves and it drives my inner beast insane
Together, they are investigating a string of murders that will rock their worlds, will unbury secrets and unravel mysteries and ultimately will bring them together and threaten to disturb the precarious balance between their realms. An attraction that they can't deny.
She may hate me when it is over - I'll face that when we get there. Until then, I plan to make her mine in body and soul.
Getting each other out of their systems leads surprisingly to more. But they aren't ready yet to just give in and reveal their truths.
-I'll be strong for you Syn... If you need it. You don't always have to be the strong one. I'll be your glue if you want to crumble. I'll hold you together.
-And what if you're what's making me crumble, Ryder?
Excellent worldbuilding, multi-layered, complex characters, intrigue, mystery, sex, heartbreak this book has it all. And I mean ALL!!! Addictive, emotional and.......... f*cking PERFECT! And then there are the last chapters and revelations and pain and that ending!!
It is not every day that you read a paranormal romance and you feel that you can relate to the characters and the situations. It helps that this is a series so we get a lot of insight in the heroes and we watch them struggle and grow. Nothing is really resolved so you are left craving for more and trying to put off the fire in your bedroom.
Can't wait for more and what are you doing and you haven't read these books???

Cyn's great, of course, but Ryder...damn, he's my fucking fantasy.“Never challenge me, I promise that you will lose. Every. Fucking. Time.”

First read review:
Fighting Destiny by Amelia HutchinsSyn is scared. She should be fucking terrified. I want her and nothing will stop me now. Not even her newly risen love, if he gets in the way he will really go to his grave, I own him now. Another fucking pawn, on my growing board. His supposed death broke her, I intend to pick up those pieces and use them to get inside her beautiful fucked up mind.
When Syn, a kick-ass-heroine witch, started working out on a strange assignment, lead to one of the most gruesome murder mysteries of their times. Her friends and the Dark Fae are set and determined to find out who is killing off Fae and Witches alike... While trying to found out who the murderers are, Ryder is pulling Syn further in under his spell, despite her better judgment. Syn and her friends can’t trust anyone and nothing is as it seems on the surface – not even herself. The Dark Prince stood before me, his hair so black that it almost appeared blue in the lights. Golden eyes stared at me, no emotion in their endless depths, at all. He was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.
Ryder usually get's what he wants, but he never expected that he would want a snappy, irritated witch. He didn't expect to get Syn in his plans. He wants Syn like he never wanted anyone before and he hates it. He loves control, he needs it, and so does Syn. Syn hates fairies because of her brutal past. So when she's pressed in to a corner, she has no choice but to agree to work for the Prince of the Dark Fae. She's forced to sign a contract, which she of course is stupid enough not to read before she does...“I’m not a piece of fucking property, I cannot be owned!”
“Quite the opposite, you are mine. As of right now, you belong to me Pet.”
Syn is a witch who takes shit from no one. She's snappy, fast and powerful. She's what you could call a kick-ass-heroine. Syn is strong and has a really good heart, and at the same time she doesn't make herself weak because she has a kind heart. She's been trough hell and back again, and she still is standing, which she deserves a hell of a lot credit for! Syn's the kind of person who really learns from her mistakes and she makes the pain and the anger she feels to become stronger, to fight her fears. Syn's got a biiiiig mouth that she uses a lot, and has her perfect comebacks. She's actually funny as hell.It won’t be enough to sate the hunger I feel inside for her, but it will be enough to brand her skin and mark her as my own. Then no one can question who she belongs to. She’s mine. And I will have her in every fucking way possible, until she becomes a problem. I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it. Until then, I plan to take her until she only knows one name—mine.
Ryder, got damn Ryder, the Prince of the Dark Fae.. Powerful, dangerous, sexy as fuck. He's stubborn and dominate, and hot as hell. He's rich, overbearing egotistical ass of a bastard who gets exactly what he wants. If he plays a game, well... he always wins.. Ryder's the guy your parents would NEVER agree to dating their daughter. But damn, he's irresistible! He's got one hell of a dark side, and a healthy person would stay the hell out of his way. Though he's incredible dangerous, you still get to see soft sides of him, where Ryder's gentle and caring, and you simply can't help but to fall for him. He's protective, and possessive as fuck. Ryder's smart, and knows how to play, and he's an really old fae. Ryder's really mysterious, and doesn't really share his personal life."..Love is more than just feeling something Syn, it’s the connection of two souls that intertwine and cannot be without the other. It’s not just saying you love someone, its showing them with every fucking breath you take, every look. It just is, simple as that. That kind of love doesn’t die. It withers the soul without the other to keep it alive. Eventually, it turns you bitter and cynical.”
Ryder and Syn's story was impressive. I really loved how their relationship developed from hate to 'kinda friendship' to perhaps more...“Be as that as it may, I told the guard you were mine. You stole my car.”
“Borrowed it I did, return it I will.”
Oh bloody fucking hell.
“Okay Yoda, can I have the woman whose body you stole back?”
“My body it is, yours I am not. Dead I speak until drained I am,” I smiled unable to help myself.
I love this book! It's was incredible and well written. Amelia Hutchins really know's how to capture a reader! I was obsessed after the first couple of pages... The book didn't really get boring at all, and something happened all the time. You got the information you needed, and it's never got too much.. Sometimes in other books you get a lot of unnecessary info and it's sometimes makes the book boring and hard to read. But Fighting Destiny gave you exactly what you needed and nothing more. I love how Amelia wrote the characters! I also love that she even wrote in Ryder's POV, which was great, cause then you get the see what's on his dark mind.. In my opinion, I felt like Ryder got softer towards Syn on each POV from him. Which made me love him even more.. Damn him!“I’ll be strong for you Syn, if you need it. You don’t always have to be the strong one, I’ll be your glue if you want to crumble, I’ll hold you together,” he said lifting his eyes and meeting mine.
“And what if you’re what’s making me crumble Ryder, what then?”
His lips lifted into his sexy smirk. “Then I’ll put you back together. I will never tear you down Syn. I will always protect you from anything and everything that would. I’ve yet to find anything in this world or any other who can take me on—keep that in mind,” he said lifting his eyes to meet mine before he started to turn away.
I was startled by his words and what he had said earlier when we were dancing. He didn’t like me, did he? “That’s what I’m afraid of.”
I felt connected with Syn and it was awesome. Like, as soon as I started to read everything disappeared except the book. This book had it all! A dominated alpha male, a kick-ass-heroine, sexy sweet sex, friendship and loyalty, tears and laughter. I can't wait to read the next book. Can't wait for the story about Syn and Ryder to continue!
Rate: 4.5-5 stars. -
God I love this woman's books. Thank you and amen.

This started off SO strong and I was enthralled.
But then you throw in some minor plot holes, some major characterization inconsistencies, some personality vs. action issues, and some semi-flawed world-building and we are left with a bit of a convoluted...mess, honestly.
Regardless, I really did enjoy it and I am intrigued by the questions we are left with at the end of book one. I want to know...WHO exactly is Ryder, WHY exactly is Syn so important, and WHAT exactly is their destiny?
*Side Note: This has been sitting on my kindle for over a year now. I got it for FREE and and it is the first book in my quest to kill my tbr of free/sale books that I have currently overloading my kindle. I'm proud of myself for getting started on it and doubly glad I enjoyed the book.
And PS. Supposedly Ryder is hung like a horse. A fairy horse, if you will.
For serious though, WTF does this dude have in his pants? -

Ok, so this book is about a fairy
and a witch.
No, no, no. Not that type of fairy and witch....More like
this: (Fae: Ryder aka The Dark Prince)
and
this: (Witch: Synthia)
Synthia hates the Fae because they killed her family. She winds up getting screwed and has to work for the Dark Prince of the Fae thanks to the Guild. They do meet under some odd circumstances.
They team together to determine who is after the Light Heir, Arianna. Unfortunately for Synthia, every time she is around Ryder she gets his Fae juju and wants him to do her. Fae have the ability to make you want them so badly you beg to be fucked.
But she hates the Fae and is disgusted with herself for wanting him and pissed at him for making her want to jump his bones.
She has been alone since her love, Adrian, died though and she needs to get laid.
It seems like she goes stupid every time she's around him though and tells him something about her powers and more and more about her coven and the Guild she works for.
She's determined she won't have sex with him
and its almost a love/hate relationship between the two of them...
but then she screws up and signs a contract basically saying she is his for her own protection against other Fae.
Over time we find out a few things we didn't know about Synthia
And then finally.....
But then all of a sudden we get our cliffy ending!!! Were they both set up? Who did that? What just happened?
Onward I go to book 2!
All in all I really enjoyed this storyline. I did wind up skimming through a few parts just because I got a little annoyed with how much this bitch moaned....
I mean she moaned,
and moaned,
and moaned.
ALSO Never, ever EVER refer to a penis as an engorged mushroom cap or bulbous head. And please refrain from any and all womb clenching. It grosses me out. K. Thanks! -
WOW!! I am in Love with Ryder!!
He gets 4.5 "Dirtiest Talker EVER" stars
Ryder was not the kind of man you walked away from. You crawled on hands and knees, trying to remember who you had been before his touch corrupted you.
Ryder, The Fae Dark Prince
So Ladies, I have read a LOT of mixed reviews on this book. Apparently it's a love it or hate it kinda series. If you like your men with Stalkerific tendencies, that stake their claim and tell you that you are their property, and show no emotion while doing it (just an all consuming lust), then Ryder is the man for you.
"You are mine, Synthia. If any other feeds from you he will die. Do you understand what I am telling you?"
"I belong to no one,"
"Wrong. I'm claiming you, Syn. Right now, right here, you are mine."
I just Love that Caveman!! "You are mine and don't dare look at another man or I will kill him!!" Yes, that turns me on. I enjoy it even more when the heroine is a strong woman, that fights against the lust, attraction haze, and denies this claim.
And that is exactly what Syn does through out this book. She lusts for Ryder, but refuses to admit it. This makes for a Nuclear explosion when these two finally do come together!!
The scent of her need makes me want to pull back the delicate petals of her flower and devour it, consume it, fuck it.
Oh and did I mention that Ryder is a dirty talker. He says things to Synthia that makes me blush and wish I were her.
Yes...these two bicker A LOT. But he is a 1000 year old Fae Dark Prince that is use to getting his way, and she is a stubborn headed Witch that hates ALL things Fae!!
Amidst all of this sexual tension, their is an overall plot that will suck you in. There is a serial killer that in not only killing immortal Fae, but also killing witches. I Totally enjoyed this book and will give it a solid 4.5 star because I have a feeling that the series will get better once Ryder admits that his obsession with Syn goes beyond lust, and involves his heart. I believe he loves her and is in denial.
Gosh, I am devouring this series and highly recommend to my friends that love the Caveman mentality. Which means, he is stubborn, in charge. and he claims his female weather she likes it or not. There is No Non-con though. He makes her beg for it eventually. Which is freakin HAWT!!! And Sexes her so well that they both beg for more!! The Emotions come later...I promise!!!
My Fae Chronicles reviews:
Fighting Destiny
Taunting Destiny
Escaping Destiny
Seducing Destiny -
What? Did you expect anything different? Really? It's like you don't know me at all.
From the deplorable writing (I refuse to talk about it), to the awful Alpha-ragebeast nature of Ryder (more on that later), to the head-bangingly annoying Mary-Sueish ness of Synthia (later, later, later).
To be honest, there was nothing redeemable about this. I can understand why many people would like this because Synthia and Ryder had some decent chemistry, but for me, all the negatives outweighed the positives so badly, I barely resisted the urge from flinging my kindle against the wall. The sex scenes weren't very tastefully written, and in my opinion, the 'dirty talk' made me cringe a little bit inside.
But by far, the worst feature about this book is how many spelling, grammar and punctuation mistakes were made throughout the book. At one point, there were so many spelling errors, I almost felt like seeing how it would be on a word document (my, my, look at all those red lines).
Synthia is an Assassin (who *snort* DOESNT EVEN KILL.) witch in an organisation that kills Fae. She is sent on a special suicide mission that requires her to break in a heavy security building and kidnap (or kill, I didn't get it) the Prince of Fae - only realise that it was all just a test of loyalty or some bullshit like that. Of course, at this time, our love-Interest makes a lasting first impression when he starts sexually harassing information out of Synthia.
*pause*
This would have made 0.001% of sense had it been an actual mission and not some twisted test, but even when Ryder was fully aware that this was just a test and not to be taken seriously, he still tried to rape Synthia. That, my friend, is not who I would call Prince Charming (or atleast, the usual Disney kind, since the Grimms Brothers are a completely different story when it comes to Princes).
Moreover, the clothes Synthia wore to the mission- a black tight tank and short shorts- was not appropriate at all. Even I, who is about as subtle as a bull in a china shop, knows that you should wear nondescript, easy-to-shed and easy-to-move clothes while going incognito. And speaking of, I get that Synthia is the hottest thing since iPods and I get that men worship the ground she walks on, but reminding me of this every page is a liiitle too excessive, no?
Ryder is one of the most disgusting love interest I have come across in a long time and almost physically makes me ill. He has 2 or 3 chapters in his POV, and If cavemen lived today, no doubt they would sound like him. Every single conversation between Synthia and him led to him repeating the word 'mine' a least a dozen times.
Synthia: I want to go.
Ryder: No. Mine.
Synthia: But I have a life, I have a job.
Ryder: No you don't. Mine.
Synthia: Boo. I'm an independent woman.
Ryder: Mine.
Synthia: I kill Fae-creatures like you for breakfast.
Ryder: Mine.
Synthia: I am a human bei-
Ryder: Mine.
Synthia: I have my own mi-
Ryder: MINE!
Synthia: *glares* Okay.
Aaand so it goes, on and on and on. At first, the banter was tolerable, but it quickly became recycled and boring. The same arguements, the same retorts and the same recycled outcomes, over and over again.
Dont believe me?I wanted to scream, or rip his eyes out. “I’m not a piece of fucking property, I cannot be owned!” “Quite the opposite, you are mine. As of right now, you belong to me Pet"
Also, you would notice I left the punctuation as I read it, so there is literally no comma before any names or terms of (dubious) endearment in any of the dialogues. Hell, commas are almost nonexistent in the whole book and are used in completely unnecessary places. So much, that even though I'm sure the author is a really nice lady, she has no clue about where to use a freaking comma.
Some of his internal monologues made me scrunch up my face so hard, my cousin brother, who was in the room with me at the time, asked me why I was (and I quote) "looking like 30 wild skunks released gas on my face" and then laughed at his own joke. He thinks he's a real comedian. But joke's on him, since he made the exact same face when I read the line aloud. The scent of her need makes me want to pull back the delicate petals of her flower and devour it, consume it, fuck it.
Delicate petals of her flower, huh? We both laughed so hard 10 seconds after it sunk it, I couldn't even sleep right.
It's a really, really good thing the world in this is very similar to the one in the Fever series, as the world building in this is piss poor.Literally nothing. Nada. Even though nobody would dare compare this poor man's imitation of the rich, sensual world in the Fever series, it's certainly helpful that the concepts and world is 99% the same because then I didn't have to make up assumptions a lot.
And before I end this (already way too long) review, I just have one thing more to ask:"I watched you sleep,” [Ryder] replied unamused or affected by my surprise at his words that showed all over my face.
Edward? Is that you? -

Spoilers
Fighting Destiny is the First book in The Fae Chronicles Series. Witches and Fae are being killed left and right. It's Synthia's job as a witch in the Guild, to enforcing laws that protect humankind from the rest of the Otherworld creatures. Syn is the best at what she does, but she is a rebel with a dark past. Syn doesn't play well with others, and she hates and distrust the Fae. So she couldn't believe it when she was hired to work for the Dark Prince of the Fae, Ryder. She doesn't trust Ryder, he is a rude ass jerk, use to getting what he wants, when he wants it, but she can't help the lust that burns in her for him. Ryder is powerful and he always gets what he wants. He doesn't ask, he takes. So when he wants the sassy witch that challenges everything he says and fighting him at every turn , no one will stop him from having her, not even her!
So this is the second time I have read this book. The first time I had a lot of mixed feelings about it. I liked it the first time, But I liked it more the second time around! There was parts of this book I really liked, but there where some parts of this book that I really didn't like.
Ryder:
Ryder confused the hell out of me one minute I liked him and the next I wanted to choke him. I think Ryder is kinda a dick. Sometimes he was this asshat that did things that I had a hard time seeing how Syn didn't just punch him in the throat. I had a hard time seeing how Syn could fall for him or trust him with the shit he pulled, then at other times he would do something sweet like have her dance on his feet.
It confused me and made me unsure of how I felt about Ryder. Also I have always said there is a difference between a sexy dominant alpha male and a crazy controlling borderline abusive male and I feel like the line was blurred in this book with Ryder. He was just too mean and controlling at times!
"Keep lipping off, and I'll find a use for that tongue." "Keep dreaming, man-whore."
"Never challenge me. I promise that you will lose. Every. Fucking. Time."
She's Challenging me. Even now, her eyes narrow on me, watching me as I watch her back hungrily. Challenge fucking accepted. ~ Ryder
"Then I'll put you back together. I will never tear you down, Syn. I will always protect you from anything and everything that would. I've yet to find anything in this world, or any other, who can take me on- keep that in mind,"
Synthia:
Synthia I liked a lot. I felt sorry for the things she lived through. She was very loyal to her friends who I didn't feel were very good friends to her at times. She was very sassy, and she has mad skills as a witch. At times she confused me too. She was kickass one minute and then she would let Ryder walk on her the next.
"I'm not a piece of fucking property! I cannot be owned!"
"I'm not like Claire, Ryder. I won't be used because you want sex. That's what it would be-right?"
"Fuck destiny. I decide my own destiny, Ryder. Not some fucking preordained bullshit,"
Syn and Ryder's relationship while very hott with sexual tension and some very sexy dirty talk,
"You're too tight. I want to put my cock in you so fucking bad, Syn. I want to drive it in until you scream my name. Do you want it, Witch? Do you want this Fae cock fucking your tight pussy until it comes for me?"
"Fuck me, Ryder-hard. I'm asking you to just give it to me, everything. Stop holding it back."
lacked something for me. They had a Lust/ hate relationship for almost the whole book. I think that it was that I felt Ryder should have tried building her trust and showed her that she could trust fae, that they were not all alike and that not all would steal your will and rape and feed from you until you are a FIZ (Fae-induced zombie), but instead he was very selfish and broke her trust repeatedly. She even tried to give him a chance to earn her trust and to let him in, like their date. What does he do, He takes her to a hunt!!!
The hunt where her choices where to sleep with him or he would let the next hunter have her and the next hunter wouldn't take no for an answer, so the hunter would rape her! Then if she chooses her ex boyfriend, Adrian at the hunt he would kill Adrian. So Syn basically had no choice!!! I am just not ok with that even if he does say:
"You want to be chased. You need the choice taken away from you. You fight your own desires, because you think you cannot handle it Syn. You punish yourself for something that happened long ago, something you couldn't have changed, because destiny decided it before you were even born. I'm just giving us both what we want."
I mean really? And she was ok with that and wanted to sleep with him pfff! Then after he and syn have sex for hours, he gets pulled from their bed to hear news that his people were attacked by witches. He believes they are from Syn's guild. So what does he do he chokes her, doesn't wait to find out what happens just decides Syn slept with him to set up the attack on his people. What a asshat again! I also didn't care for the FIZ mind control thing. I felt really sorry for Syn. She had a bad life and I felt trapped for her by Ryder and all the crap he pulls. Towards the end I think Ryder was confused by his own feelings for Syn and you do get to see him soften a little. I started to like the new sides that Ryder was showing. The ending OMG the ending was crazy making me Freak the freak out!
The story plot is great, the world was different in a good way, and it was written well and had lots of drama and plot twist. I can see that the book has the potential to become a great series depending on how the next book goes so I am on to the next book!

Fighting Destiny by Amelia Hutchins.
My review of this book is me making comments while I'm reading the book. A lot of them are spoiler-ish so I'll spoiler-protect them. Stupid quips: Prince "Who do you work for?" She quipped sarcastically, "Your mother, she wants you to clean your bedroom." All this while she's chained to a wall waiting to die. Okay, my 7 year old neighbor could come up with more sarcasm than that. I don't know how the author's beta readers didn't mention how lame that phrase is.
Finally about 4/5 through the book it started to get good and then ended in a cliffhanger. I wish I could go back in time and not read this book but it was a group's monthly read. I'm not planning on reading this series. *1/2 -
11/15/15 RE-READ!! I loved this just as much the second time around!!! So so sooooo good. Going to read the next three again now then then start the new spin off with The Elite Guards! Yay me!!!.

Now on to book 2! -
“Oh shit,” I whispered, covering my mouth with my hand. The hooded male turned his head as if he’d heard me, and looked right at me—with beautiful, glowing, golden eyes. Well hell! What a way to end this read!!! I have heard about this series ,so I decided to get this book and give it a try.I was hooked first by the cover!! Such a sexy beautiful cover!! This was a awesome read I loved the whole dark fae prince vibe and Ryder is that and so much more,he is a dirty talking dipped in sex Beastie and I'm in love!!! Syn is a bad ass witch with lots of attitude who loves to take JAB's at(fairy boy) Ryder and these two have so much chemistry and their so hot together that when they come together its combustible!!! Great storyline with many twist's and turns . Not only is their fae's but also witches, vampire's too! Can't wait to read the rest of this series!!! 5 wet panty star's!

This is ridiculous.
I just can’t go on with this ridiculous wannabe erotic book. The characters are bland and boring, except the main character Syn. She is bland and extremely annoying. I mean, even the Faes in this book are weird and boring. They feed off human emotions (okay, interesting concept), and what better way to do that than by having sex with them (read: controlling their minds to have sex with them) and leaving them in a zombie state? That’s apparently the best way to feed off emotions: mental and physical rape...
Basically Syn is a badass with a kind of mysterious dark part. I feel like the author has a more complete story in mind but forgot to put in the details when she wrote the book. There are mentions of characters that we never heard of before (as if we were supposed to know who they are) and people just seem to appear whenever it’s convenient for the storyline without any context.
There is also the erotic side of this book... in the first 20% all Syn manages to do was almost get raped by Ryder (the dark Fae prince) four times. But hey it’s okay because he’s insanely hot. She also managed to lose her liberty (because yes somehow he now owns her) but that’s also okay because he’s hot and sexy and deep down she can’t resist him. That’s when it got too much for me.
With the weak plot, the nonexistent world-building, and the awful characters I just don’t understand how this book got such high ratings...

"It's not just saying you love someone—it’s showing them with every fucking breath you take, every look. It just is, simple as that."
Fighting Destiny is the first book in The Fae Chronicles Series. A seductive blend of passion, action, and romance set in a picturesque fantastical world makes Fighting Destiny an explosive start to this paranormal series.
"That kind of love doesn't die. It withers the soul without the other to keep it alive. Eventually, it turns you bitter and cynical.”
In a world where witches and faes exist, the balance between life and death is in a constant battle. Synthia, a witch in the guild, is given an extraordinary assignment in which she is teamed up with one of her enemies Ryder (who happens to be the Dark Prince of the Fae). As Ryder and Synthia begin to bond, everything that Syn has ever been led to believe is put into question. As doubts continue to overtake her, Ryder is there to seduce her and give her affection and security like she has never felt before. But as tensions continue to rise between the witches and the fae, Syn and Ryder have much to overcome in order to find their way together.“I can feel the draw, her body calling to mine as animals do in heat. I'd fuck her like an animal; raw, hot, and fucking hard.”
Fighting Destiny is an absolute must for PRN fans! The sexual tension between Ryder and Syn is simply off the charts. The intricate world is full of intrigue and unique spiritual forces coming in from all directions. I am not going to lie there is ALOT going on in this world. The plot is complex and the characters have intense relationships. When you add in the magic, you will not be able to take your eyes away. There were certain moments during the read that I had an unbelievable desire to smack both Syn and Ryder but by the end, I was surprisingly entranced by this magical world and Ryder and Syn certainly had me coming back for more. Syn is definitely the standout character in this read for me. Her spunky "take no prisoners attitude" made her one of the strongest heroines I have ever met and Ryder is certainly her perfect match.
Overall, I highly recommend Fighting Destiny to any and all PRN fans. Just be forewarned, this one ends in a major cliffy. Before starting this series, I highly recommend you download every single book in the series because once you start this journey, you will not want to stop. You will want your Kindle stocked and ready to go!

Yeah, I don't want to dis an author in any review and try to avoid making it personal but really, this author just has no concept of the bigger picture. At least it seems that way to me. This book seemed to be written off an outline of bullet points and personal fantasy moments that were compiled together into a story. While I'm sure there's a plot in there somewhere (as I DNF'd it at 62%) and I wasn't terribly put off by the main dude being noting better than a rapist, I couldn't get past the cluelessness of the author...
1. Urban Fantasy This is Not: Urban Fantasies are supposed to be urban and cool. The constant name dropping of lame bands (Creed, really???), outdated slutty attire and "maybe really cool in the 90's" cars was just more than I could take. I'm fucking 37 years old and even I know this shit ain't cool. Do I have to mention Creed again? *shakes head* This is more Lame Fantasy. Fiction Writing 101: If you aren't hip to Popular Culture than do not include Popular Culture and let the reader insert their own.
2. Lot's of Skeeved-Out Moments: Okay, so I didn't make it to the alleged rape scene at the Hunt like others did but that's because I got skeeved out more quickly than others. I wasn't cool with the way Dude was treating Chick by forcing her into sexual situations against her wishes but I went with it as I figured there was a good reason for it. But I couldn't get past the scene where the author set up a "dance leading to sexual tension" moment where the two characters are feeling their sexual appetites together while she's standing on his feet while he's dancing and she's reminded about how she did this with her father before he was murdered and then all of a sudden she's still feeling all these sexual feelings. Uh, gross. Why did you have to bring the father into sexy time? The author also did this a couple times before when Fae Dude is mind-seducing her into sex and she thinks of the tragic end of her mother who was similarly forced into sex by other Fae dudes in front of her and her father when she was only 5. Really? Dude, I do not want to think about my parents when having sex. That's not sexy, it's disturbing unless you have fantasies that lean that way. Sexy Scene Writing 101: do not include thy mother or father!!!!
I've read tons of non-con and found them to be really hot in a porn like way but this was just gross and icky. I'm all for Stockholm syndrome when done right but this was all kinds of wrong.
3. Mixed Bag of Regurgitation: Excessive Lip Biting to show vulnerability (from Twilight). "He smelled like Ambrosia" (from every 80's historical bodice ripper romance)- do you even know what ambrosia is? it's citrus fruit and sour cream *gags in mouth* and while tasty in the 19th century, I'm sure, it's a really gross thing to smell like. Snarky Sarcastic Chick (from every Chick lit book in the 2000's)- big fail as every comeback and sarcastic comment was so unfunny as to be lame and if she had said them to me, I would have literally walked away from her with a weird look on my face but without any comment because what would be the point!?! Classical Dance Lessons Scene to the song of "I've Had the Time of My Life"....uh...wha???? Waltzing to the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack? Huh? CORRECTION: apparently they are waltzing to a David Cook song which also leads to only another "huh?" from me and reinforces point #1 as being lame. Sex Scene To The Tune of "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails. Yes, Trent Resnor will always be cool but people have been having sex to this song 20+ years ago including myself. Ya got nothing new or different for us here?
4. Three of the main male characters all had similar names. Aiden, Alden and Adam. Real big imagination, Amelia.
5. Lots of Missing Actions: I see this a lot in poorly written books but this one may take the cake. This is where someone is sitting then all of a sudden it turns out they are standing. Two people are in the room and then all of a sudden a Fourth person is there talking and I say "fourth" because it turns out there was a third person there too all of a sudden. It can be looked over if it happens just a few times in a book but this happened several times per chapter and it just made it so hard to read.
6. Who, What, Huh???-- So this is a paranormal type story and yet, the author wasn't clear on all the different kinds of paranormal. There were Fae which included all kinds of different types and then there were vampires which seemed like they were a subset of Fae at one point and then they were their own class of paranormal and then they weren't???? There were witches. There were ghosts. There were different kinds of witches. There were different kind of ghosts- some who could do nothing but jump and some who could work an iPod. There were Unseelie which were the darkest Fae. And later they are the most powerful Fae and then later still, the darkest Fae but what's an unseelie? Dark, how? Most powerful, how? The Unseelie King has been hiding and or missing? Is he just King of the Unseelie or is his King of all Fae? I thought Dude was King of all Fae? But Fae are Unseelie or is it Unseelie are Fae? I don't get it. Was I supposed to study the paranormal classifications before reading this? Huh. I believe the big reveal was that Dude was the Unseelie King who was supposed to be hidden but was actually in plain sight but I'll never know cause I am not reading any more of this poo.
7. Purely Author's Wish Fulfillment: Multiple Seduction Scenes (back to back, BTW) Via Dance Lessons all in which the Dude never really lets the Chick dance but hauls her leg around his back or something. Clearly a particular fantasy of the author. Also, note #4-- fascination with "A" names along with her own pen name. And not to forget #2-- daddy/mommy issues when it comes to sex.
With all that being said, I was interested in what was going to happen but was continually kept eye rolling and/or grossed out most of the time that I had to stop wasting my time with this heap of shit. There is potential in the story if it could be written well and this one wasn't. -
4.5 sexy, kinky and fairy stars!
Fighting Destiny, totally wasn't what I expected it to be and this misunderstanding made me quickly fell in love with deliciously dark plot and kinky, alpha male Fae. Yep, you got that right, Ryder is dominant, sexy, perverted beast, that is a Fae . And not that kind of with wings and pink glitter. He's the Dark Prince, that likes to own pretty little things and feeds of sex. Weird, huh? I always pictured Fae as little fairies with odd ears and wearing thights. But it's not the case in Amelia Hutchin's book. Here Fae are incredibly sexual and kinky creatures, that can make you orgasm multiply times and change you into sex slave that dies from being fucked.
"It was why they were considered the most deadly of the Otherworld. They could make you like it as they fucked you to death.."
Syn is a kick ass girl. Probably one of the funniest, the most insane heroines I've read about in ages. She is everything I admire in strong women. The power war between her and Ryder was the most entertaining and the sexiest thing I've read about.
I felt glued to the pages, because of their constant banter, snarky comments and teasing. Syn's sassiness was great assest and it made this book extremely pleasurable read. But when she was mixed with the kind she hated the most and the sexiest yet annoying Fae that wanted to own her like a pet? It went from pleasurable to EXPLOSIVE.
“You ordered me here,” I said finally breaking the silence.
“I did,” Ryder said with his lopsided grin that looked more dangerous than friendly.
“I’m here,” I mumbled.
“You are.”
"..."
“Okay, we gonna measure dicks all day Ryder, or are we gonna sign a contract?” I snapped.
“You don’t have a dick Syn, I would have noticed,” Ryder’s smile lifted roguishly.”
Please, don't get me started on the sex parts because they were so, so hot, I melted... Ryder’s need to dominate, and Syn’s need to not feel owned, made the sex looks scorching, fight of dominance. I devoured every sexy snippet and drooled over Ryder magical ‘parts’. And that dirty mouth of his… God! I’m blushing while thinking about his words.
“I don’t make excuses for what I am, or what I do. I play hard. I love hard and I fuck even harder Syn, I am what I am. So if you play games with me, keep in mind I will be more than happy to play them with you—and I always win”
Ryder had also the other - swoonworthy side. Behind the bastard’s facade is hidden loveable man. I wish I could see more of this soft part of his personality. As much as I enjoyed him, being an asshole, I craved this little breakthroughs.
Overall, I was surprised, satisfied and had a blast while reading Fighting Destiny. I desperately needed some paranormal lovin’ and I found it in Amelia Hutchin’s book. It was raw, gritty, kinky and extremely lip biting, throw your clothes of ride I will cherish for a long, long time.
Now, I need more Ryder and his dominant ways. My heart beats faster every time he says he want to own and ravish Syn, so I'm outta here to read next book in the series. Bye ladies xx -
I loved, I loved, I loved this book! Going by how much I loved it, I want to give it five stars but holy horrific grammar, batman! It was honestly one of the most poorly edited books I've come across since the self publishing boom. The ratings are still outstanding, so readers must be overlooking it to a certain extent, but I imagine the over all feel from readers is;
"WHYYYYYYY...did you publish this without getting it edited?!?!?!?!? Why why why?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Every time I'd come across a plural noun made possessive for some reason (happened dozens of times) or misspelled words, misused punctuation, or terrible grammar, I'd just have to cringe because I was LOVING the storyline, the characters, the plot to such an extreme that I actually felt bad for the author, wondering how slammed she would get from some reviewers. It's bad, folks!
I'm only deducting one star for that glaring and ridiculously obvious oversight, because I hate to discourage readers from reading this unless you are a major stickler for bad grammar and/or this is not your usual genre and/or you don't love the pushy, ass hole alphas.
...because seriously, this "hero" takes the grand prize for ass hole. He also stole the show with his steaming sexuality and his larger than life persona. The heroine is strong yet sometimes stupid. I hate to compare it to the Fever series like so many others did, because let's face it...this needs a heavy copy and content editor before we venture into amaze-balls territory like KMM's Fever series. However, I can't deny that there is a certain tone to this story that gives me the same feelings as Fever. It's just really imaginative, what with all the fae and otherworldly creepy-crawlies and such. The love interest(s) and their chemistry is intense but a little slow moving, so lots and lots of build up.
I'm very excited about moving on. I really think that if this could be pulled, fixed up, and republished, that it could make some hella waves. I hope that those reading my review look at my star rating and read through to the end, because I was blown away...by both the awful grammar AND the amazing story :D -
I was a bit disappointed with this book. I don't know....I though it would be more magical, enchanting, dreamy or something like that.
Maybe it is because I have read and reread so many amazing Fae books the previous week like:
A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1)
A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2)
Faefever (Fever, #3)
Lionheart (Moonshadow, #3)
Naturally I thought it would be something similar and equally impressive. Unfortunately the book was more Erotica than Fantasy which normally I wouldn't mind but this time I did mind. Maybe the timing was not correct. Not sure.
Anyway, I still enjoyed the book and that's the reason I gave 4 stars. It certainly had an impressive start. When Synthia met the Dark Prince, aka Ryder I was ecstatic! Such a great scene! Synthia as a very powerful witch manages to bound her mortal soul to the immortal soul of the powerful fae prince. So, the prince could die if she died unless she sets him free.
Later on she finds out that she cannot get rid off Ryder and not because she did not free his soul but because he is obsessed with her. He wants her helping him discover who kills witches and fae and for what reason. And this is the main mystery of the book. The other two mysteries are:
1. What exactly is Synthia? Because after a while it is obvious that she is not just a witch.
2. What exactly is Ryder? Because apparently he is more than Fae.
The backbone story is when and how Synthia and Ryder will fall in love.
I have to say that there were parts of the book that had inconsistencies and felt like the action was stopping and then starting and then everything was flat and I was bored.
The world building did not feel complete in many cases. The description of the vampires was non-existent and the description of Fae and Witches was lacking.
Moreover, I don't know if it had to do with me rereading Fever series by Moning recently, but the description of “FIZ” (aka Fae Induced Zombie, aka sexually dependent slave) reminded me 100% the “priya” from the Fever series.
The behaviour of Synthia also did not make any scene so many times. For example, why did she sign a contract with her blood without even reading it? She is a powerful witch and a very clever person, so why did she bound herself in situations and then regret it?
On the other hand the book also had some powerful scenes like the one at the cemetery when the raised souls are dancing at the cemetery while they listen to Gun’s and Roses’ Don’t Cry and House of Pain’s Jump Around from Synthia's iPod. I loved this scene!
Overall it is not a bad book, but it did not feel very coherent and organised.
Anyway, I am definitely reading the series because not all the questions have been answered :) -
What do you get if you put together the Black Dagger Brotherhood and the Fever series?
Exactly.
I have to admit, it was highly satisfying.
It may be because there is enough sexual energy to blow up a building.
Or maybe because Ryder and Syn go from:
To:
And of course to:
And back to:
And let's not forget:
Oh come on, there is one word that describes this book and that is SUCCULENT.
Definitely go for it. -
listen up cause I shall say this only once!
this goes to my best of the best shelf and it deserves 6 phenomenal-awesome-and-overwhelmed stars
I haven't slept it's early in the morning like 4 am...and I am speechless and stunned
ha, I will post more...later...need to get a hold of myself!
and my thoughts, finally!
I need to clarify that I usually Do NOT read paranormal, NOT because I don't like the genre BUT because I get confused easily with the vivid description in the book when it colides with the vivid imagination in my head while trying to picture the described scene that usually involves magical stuff. And here we are coming to the point of no return cause it all depends on the author's style of writing and wheather he/she uses „heavy“ or „light“ words during the process.
So when I say that I was mesmerised with more than just the main characters' (Ryder – fae) golden eyes
I think you get my drift.
I was thrown into the whirpool of unimaginable world of mistical creatures, fairies, faes, vampires, demons, witches, mags, warlocks and ...humans
but the background was set in a „normal“ human world with mundane settings, like worldy music, clothes and surroundings...
and when you imagine the characters powers playing out through out the book it sets another well of good vibrations and vivid displays that can only work for the one person individualy...
and the fuck it worked for me!!!
Adding to it the scorching smut scenes that really undone me, using not only magical power of the display but the words could set a trigger on me just as quickly as i was turning the pages with one touch of my finger...
So damn good characterisation, phenomenal badass heroine with sassy mouth and stubborness that could only lead to confortation which is phenomenaly presented through the banter of the two MCs:
Ryder - the mistical fae, the Dark Prince was the sexiest and one of the most alluring male heroes my imagination could picture out...I was trembling from the first encounter with this sex on a stick and I think he will be very hard to knock down from the high place in my ranks of BBFs and sexy alphas...
Syn (Synthia) – 21 year old witch in human form (that is actually not BUT she doesn't know it), the enforcer for the Guild that leads and protects her own coven, is one of the best female heroines I came across in a fictin world of fantasy words...
and she's a badass, smart, powerful, bold, loyal, dedicated, sassy and passionate...I loved every minute she would speak out, act out and perform...I imagine her as a mix of Lara Croft and Aeon Flux, only blonde...LOL
I liked everything about this book – the story, the surroundings, the descriptions, the dialogues, the interaction...every fuckin thing and I can honestly and without a doubt say that this was one of the best books I have read not only this year but EVER!!!
What can I say, maybe the stars were aligned in the right path for me, and this book just came into my path and knocked me on my knees...
So, fuck yeah, I am pleased and in need for more... -
So I’m rereading this series again and this will be the third time for me.
It never gets old and is up there with my all-time favourites
Genre wise I would class this as urban fantasy with a big slug of paranormal romance added to the mix.
Syn is the heroine she’s a 21-year-old powerful witch with unknown origins and a backstory of tragedy and pain that has shaped and moulded her present self.
She’s a sassy takes no prisoners type with far to much attitude and pride for her own good.
Then we have Ryder he’s powerful fae royalty he’s also Syn’s new employer and keeper.
He’s as dominant as he’s delicious.
With a raw superiority complex and an appetite for anything sinful, he drips carnality from his very pores.
It’s also the essence he feeds on and he’s definitely got Syn set is his sights for an all you can eat buffet.
So there's a lot going on here and everything seems to track back to Syn herself.
Whatever is happening she’s somehow at the epicentre and both Syn and Ryder are determined to unravel the mystery of her obscure origins.
This one is slow-burn but still, with such amazing chemistry, it actually sizzles off the page with its raw intensity building the anticipation so expertly.
This is told mostly from Syn’s POV though we do get occasional obscure tidbits from Ryder as well.
This was an emotional rollercoaster with so many bumps along the way that you just had to hold on and hang tight for the ride.
It was also incredibly emotional and intense
This first book managed to construct the foundation and world setting things up brilliantly for the next instalment in the series and that finale definitely left me wanting more.

How do I start reviewing this book? In the beginning, I was so intrigued and hooked by this story. Syn is part of a coven and has to retrieve the dark prince's crown by breaking in and stealing it. Then, Syn ends up having to work with the dark prince to figure out who is killing Fae and witches. Sounds great, right? Things quickly turned very convoluted, though, because the author was just trying to throw in too much without completely wrapping up anything that was introduced.
Also, Ryder is Fae and they "feed" through sex. The Fae can influence people to want to desire them and Ryder is constantly threatening Syn that he can influence her to want him and sleep with him, which means he's literally constantly threatening to rape her. That was not attractive to me at all.
I was intrigued by the end about Syn's identity and how she really is, but I'm not sure I can go through this kind of writing and style again. There was just too much and I'm felt like we were constantly dragged along through these scenes that were abruptly stopped and there for really no reason. It felt like the author had all of these ideas and smushed them together instead of plotting out was was important to progress the story. I'm not sure if I'll pick up the next one, but I definitely wanted more from this. -
I'm so glad i stumbled upon this little jewel.
I love reading about fay's, especially when they are so deliciously bad.
So what to tell about Syn and Ryder.... They have this love(lust)/hate relationship, that kind of reminded me of the relationship of Raphael and Elena's from Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh. They should hate each other, but they just wanna boomshakalaka voom....
It's like...
and then...
and then we go back to....
so do i have to tell that the chemistry was sizzling...YES I DO!!!!
I almost forgot there is also a killer in the picture
but seriously now, it's a great story, it contains mystery, murder, passion and fantasy....
Happy reading! -
4.5 ★'s
Syn's a witch who works for The Guild in protecting humans. She has a bad history with the Fae so naturally when she's assigned to protect one of them, she isn't happy. Not only that but she's working closely with the Dark Prince who just pushes all her buttons!
I love books about witches and Fae and this one is no exception. AH has carved out her own little niche in this genre and it's almost like she's taken the best parts and incorporated them in her own story.
I really like Syn. She's always trying to do the right thing but she's fallible. She's suffered some loses in her life so she's always trying to take care of her friends and the people she cares about.
Ryder is a very interesting character. Intense, moody, sexy....and cruel at times. Oh yea, and he loves to talk dirty...often and A LOT! (The Fae in this story feed from emotions and they feed the best from the emotions during sex so go figure!) And bonus, we get a couple pages here and there from his POV...mainly about sex but I'm not complaining! ;)
So yeah, the sex....it's scorching! But it's the sexual tension that'll kill ya! Of course, Syn's going to fight it...like I said she hates the Fae but...there's some things happening that changes the way she thinks.
There are a lot of great secondary characters. Syn has her own coven, however it's small with only her and two others, Adam and Larissa. They are both great and some interesting things going on there. Ryder also has *many* interesting Fae around him that you slowly get to know.
There are some intense moments...not only with some changes that Syn is going through but with some new discoveries. There's also some sad things that happen unfortunately.
I really enjoyed almost everything in the book. Ryder's cruelty was a bit much for me and one of the sad things was, well, really sad. I'm sure that something will come from it but I don't know what it is...yet.
The ending leaves you hanging, not really a cliffhanger per se but it just ends in the middle of something. Thankfully, the next book is already out!

Imma be real with you: If you’re looking for a book that’s well written, well edited, and/or filled with healthy relationships, then this book is NOT the book for you. 🚨‼️❌🆘🚨
Absolutely not. Avoid forever.
So why in the hell did I, an intellectual (lol no, but humor me) feminist, enjoy this book so much?
I DON’T FUCKING KNOW OKAY. It was awesome. I couldn’t put it down. I found myself compelled by the plot and drawn in by the slow burn spicy scenes. I kept flying through pages because I was excited to see what happens next.
It kind of felt like watching Gossip Girl because...
1. The writing is bad.
It can be really unclear at times. For example, there is a scene where there’s an explosion. However, I didn’t even realize the explosion happened until several paragraphs later when there was a line of dialogue that literally used the word “explosion” (which I’ve now typed so many times that it now sounds weird). But then there would be other times where the writing would repeat the same sentence, but put in different words. It was like the writing was trying to summarize itself. I don’t know.
2. The pacing is bad.
This is mainly toward the end. Everything became super rushed. There were new conflicts, new reveals, new villains, and it all happens within the last 10% of the book. Talk about whiplash. But, I just went with it.
3. The character development is bad.
Couldn’t tell you the names of most of them. Everyone outside of the main two MCs are pretty generic.
4. The relationships are bad.
SO toxic. SO manipulative. SO anti-feminist. SO why-the-fuck-are-you-still-reading-this-Lindsey-you-hate-this-type-of-thing.
5. The editing is bad.
I’m aware this book is self-published, but a middle schooler could have fixed a lot of the spelling, grammatical, and syntax errors.
The book is a train wreck and I COULD NOT LOOK AWAY. I will probably end up reading the entire series (JUST LIKE I REWATCH GARBAGE GOSSIP GIRL EVERY YEAR.)
And...I’m not even mad about it. I enjoyed it. Idgaf. Tell a story with ridiculous drama/spice and I'm in. 😈 -
A HOT paranormal series that I would recommend!
The main character Synthia is kick ass as for the cast of characters introduced...
Who is good?
Who is evil? and
Who is just flat out yummy!
I jumped directly into book 2 and wow it did not disappoint.
Fans of fast paced, exciting and drool worthy paranormal characters should definitely give this series a go. -
And I ooop! I actually started this AGAIN because someone recommended it to me and I forgot I'd read it......grrrrrrrr. Thankfully I checked gr.....whew saved myself!
Spoilers ahead(Original review)
Welllllllllll there be fucks ahead so proceed with caution(I crack myself up sometimes)
Curiosity is the bane of my fucking existence when it comes to books. I hadn't planned to read this series because of what happened to him in the last book of the series THEN someone raved about it and I couldn't help myself 🤤right soooooooo
Ryder is the prince of a fraction of Fae, in this one they are akin to succubi where they "feed" of emotions especially during sex. Ryder starts off cold, harsh and controlling. The Fae possess some kind of sexual ability that makes their partners willing thus mind fucking them into.....fucking 🤷. Anyways from the beginning to the end he's threatening her to Fae fuck her into doing what he wants. He needs her to impersonate his "fiancee" to flush out a killer, ppl are being killed every which way and her dead boyfriend comes back as the undead...... literally!
Syn is presented as a badass witch, probably the badassest of the witches. Because she's afraid of harm coming to the 2 members of her coven she agrees to help the Fae but he's hot and even when he's not mind fucking her she wants to fuck him(lots of fucks flying around,)Though it appears she's got some great powers she just came across as immature and hot headed to me. One minute she hates him the next *kissy, kissy, writhe, moan* and such. I was not a fan of hers.
At this point the heat between the 2 of them is fiery, but as she hates the Fae and thinks he's a controlling bastard she refused to give in. Up to this point I'm thinking it's a hate to lovers romance which I dig but see.......there is nooooooooooooo romance here! There is suspense, mystery and angst from their constant hot and cold but no romance.
Ryder's pov is limited and during it he comes across as an arrogant, manwhoring douche who gives us gems such as.........
*******I almost had her, her eyes watching me as I fucked Claire, she wanted to be her, wanted me to use her soft supple body instead to slake my unending hunger on. It took everything I had to keep the beast from going after her as she tore from the room, scared, fucking scent flooding my mind. Claire didn’t even satisfy. She left me cold, unsatisfied, useless flesh that takes any of my men anytime. She’d been convenient before, not anymore.*****
Even with the many, many times I rolled my eyes I was partially digging it though I really don't like Ryder then we get this.......
*****And my jaw dropped to the floor. Ryder had Claire sitting on his desk as he pounded a massive erection into her. I gasped but I couldn’t look away from it, or what he was doing. I watched his body punishing hers and found myself wanting to take her place, wanting to be the one he fucked. I couldn’t look away from them.
My eyes locked to what they were doing and his sleek masculine body as he fucked another woman. I grew wet with need and my mouth watered for his kiss. I shook my head as if it would wake me up with no success.
She was whimpering and crying out as he drove himself inside of her over, and over again. He wasn’t saying anything, her noise the only sounds inside the room. Those eyes of his glowed molten fire, which told me he was feeding from her as he had hadn’t done from me earlier. I bit my lip as heat flooded my core with the need to take her place. I’d left him starving when I’d left him inside his room. I’d seen it in his eyes.
“Either strip or get the fuck out little girl,” he growled with his eyes now leveled on me.
I turned and ran as fast as I could away from him.*******
Oh for fucks sake!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean come on, I read the reviews, I did my due diligence but I didn't see this bs anywhere!!! Ugh, of course the rationale would be that he had to feed but I would've preferred the dumb twit say like the beast "Go ahead and STARVE!!!!!" But of course she doesn't,she understands blah blah blah!
I continued to the end mainly because I hated them both so I was secretly hoping something bad would happen to them 😔
While the plot was ok I didn't drink the same Kool aid thousands of others did and was wowed by this book or maybe I Read something else?
Either way I'm continuing on to the next book because of course my foolish self already owns it but I'm hopeful that at least in that one the romance is present and I can sip liberally of the Kool aid.
If you are not like me and went into this thinking it's more of a hot suspense/fantasy, then by all means the Kool aid may be to your liking......for me it was more ok than WOW.......... Nevertheless moving on!
1.5* rounded up because.......? I have no fucking idea why! 😁
