It was helpful to read this in conjunction with another "reception history" (Westerholm's volume on Romans). I much preferred Riches' approach of dealing with select text units and the various interpretations through the ages (Marcion to today). The result (obviously) is a more textually based survey. Westerholm, by contrast, seems to major on theological issues and systems of thought—but this could also be Romans more than Westerholm. All in all, Riches' volume is a good introduction to major voices on the Galatians text. Not life changing, but worth your time.
