The shrill whistle made him leap from Bronwyn. He’d heard men whistle like that, but never a woman. He smiled at her when she stood. Damn, but this girl had spirit.
“You will not shove me around like an old, unwanted piece of furniture.”
Ryland told her to sit down and shut up and she stepped close enough to him to touch.
“And I am not a dog to be ordered about like one either.” She stomped to the elevator again.
Bronwyn didn’t need this crap and she certainly didn’t need it from a bunch of rich pricks that seemed to be out to make her life worst than it already was. She stepped off the elevator and headed for the door. No way was she working for these idiots.
Ryland tried his best to tell the woman what she was going to do but she thwarted him at every turn. When he found her living in one of his abandoned warehouse set for demolition he nearly went through the roof. Until he saw her in action, using powers that he’d never seen before. Then nothing could keep him from her.
She was his mate, someone he was sworn to protect. But it didn’t work out that way. She was the protector and he was man enough to realize it, and none too soon because the men after her were playing for keeps and Ryland was afraid his streak, his family of weretigers were going to need all the help they could get from her.
Ryland (Golden Streak, #1) Reviews

This could've been amazing. Great ideas and storyline, absolute crap writing. It's like the author had blackouts while writing this. It doesn't transition well, skips about, and confuses. Sad.
-
When Ryland Golden goes through another secretary and yet again seems clueless as to why, his brother saddles him with a new one. Ryland had not expected to find his mate or that her temper flared quickly. When an attack happens and Bronwyn steps in saving his pack and family, any denial Ryland felt that about finding his mate goes out the window.
Now Ryland has to figure out what exactly Bronwyn is and how to keep her from running off. Bronwyn doesn't trust anyone, her hard life has never given her reason too, however with Ryland she is wondering if her instinct is right that he is her mate.
Loved this new book, a bit dark but action packed. Ryland goes from being an arrogant ass to protector and tender mate to Brownwyn. Anxious to read more in this series. -
Jan 2017: Not in the mood to start a new book, so I'm rereading anything I gave 4-5 stars to. I still enjoyed it, mainly because of the ridiculously incompetent and stupid villains. The heroine has some crazy superpowers that are great, but she went from "all men are rapists" to "madly in love hornball" entirely too quickly for me to really like her much. I dunno... honestly, the best part of this story were the mentally deficient villains.
July 2016: Somewhat poorly edited, though not enough to drive you crazy. The villain was hilarious. The sex scenes were pretty great. The characters were all Mary Sues, but I wasn't looking for something with a whole lot of character development right now. I feel like half my GR friends would rage-quit this and the other half would go 'meh', but it worked for me tonight. -
Loved it, Loved it, Loved it!!! My all time favorite paranormal is a shifter, a feline shifter. The Golden Streak Series by Kathi S. Barton has provided me with a new series to love. Ryland Golden, what an ass he can be, in the beginning. Mr. Control, Mr. Bossy made me laugh. Bring in the feisty, complicated Bronwyn and you get to see who is really in charge.
The gist of the story is that Bronwyn had been abused and used for her special abilities to the point that she no longer trusts anyone. Certain circumstances have thrown her onto the Golden's radar, and another into their lives. Can she learn to trust again, is she willing to try? With evil in the world chasing after you, where do you make your stand? Can the Golden Streak convince here that here is where she needs to be?
When Kathi S. Barton writes the first book of a new series, it can be a bit overwhelming. The reader is introduced to many, many characters some seemingly have no bearing on the story, until you get to book 2 or 3, then it's an "Oh, yeah" moment. So if you wonder why something is written the way it was, just stick around, it all becomes clear. -
This book would have been good at least if it was longer but since it wasn't everything was rushed the heroine goes from badass to submissive and ready for marriage at the blink of an eye.
so a little girl sold by her mother. person after person either beats her or lies and uses her as she grows up and after 4 yeas in a lab
where horrible things where done to her, this is someone who grew up fast and hard. which is how she acts.....
until a few interactions with the male mc and she is suddenly a trusting blushing women who no longer acts like she use to (someone with baggage...trust issues mainly). Before she didn't like him touching her but now all of a sudden touching...kissing and sex....are all ok. and even ready to move in with him n marry him not even two pages later.. even worse is that most of the time she has been wounded or sleeping. Wow people every where need to meet this Ryland. If just a few times with him and all her past issues went away like it was nothing. I get this is supernatural but have some believability with it? And this chick is badass n in control but didn't kill her tormentors instead put up with it for 4 yeas? again not believable. -
This was a good story about a tiger shifter and a kick-azz heroine. One of the main plots is the bad guy who wants to experiment on someone with more than human abilities. Everyone pulls together to save the day in a very satisfying way.
Our hero is the leader of the tiger streak (they are called that instead of pride or pack). He is also the head of the family business, is quite rich, and quite gorgeous. What he also is, until he realizes he has to tone it down for his mate, is an arrogant jerk.
The heroine is mouthy, pushy, strong, self-reliant and beautiful. She has been victimized, but it turns out she has learned to protect herself. She also isn't willing to put up with arrogance.
There are some incredibly funny scenes, such as when she first meets her new boss, leaves because of he and his brother's attitude, and they ask the guard to stop her from leaving the building. The dialogue through all this is great. The guard pulls a gun on her--whoever heard of such a thing? The hero and his brother are such idiotic jerks, their mother has to help smooth things over.
This story has it all, tiger shifters, an evil scientist, evil tiger shifters, great friends, great mother, a close family, action, mystery, mysterious powers, fated mates, rescuers, gratitude, loyalty--everything and more.
I really enjoyed it. I recommend this story. -
I found another of Kathi S. Barton's series I hadn't read yet, so I'm off to another adventure with the Golden family. 'Ryland' is the first book in her "Golden Streak" series. Now, if you're like me and didn't know, a streak or ambush is what a group or family of tigers is called. Yep, these are large, I mean very large golden tigers and Ryland is not only the firstborn but the head of their small Streak. He's become so business-oriented since their father died that he truly has lost his people skills and was quickly becoming an alphahole. So much so even his own mother told him he needed to get laid. His brother Alistair, an attorney, represented Bronwyn in court. In order to repay his fee, he told her she could work at his family company temporarily until the debt was paid. He neglected to tell her she would be working for his brother who couldn't seem to keep anyone. The morning she's supposed to start work turns into a complete snafu and we get to see all the personalities come out. This was a great adventure with all the angst, drama, intrigue, and danger that comes with good vs. evil along with all the chemistry and pheromones found in a shifter romance that brings your blood to a boil and heartbeat to quicken. I'm excited to read 'Alistair' next.

Great storyline, unbelievably bad writing.
The books is about a woman that ends up mated to the leader of a streak of tiger shifters. She has a really bad past, filled with abuse and experiments that turned her into something Other. The scientist that tortured her and experimented on her has a bunch of tiger shifters under his command and is hunting her.
I liked the ideas but the writing is so bad it gave me headaches. It's confusing, annoying and tiring. Some parts should be dialogue, you have trouble following the discussion and sometimes the context is missing. I felt like I was reading a story written by a 15-year old that skipped literature class at school. And it's a pity because the story could be great. -
I found this authors reading style hard to follow at times. I wasn't sure who was being talked about and had to reread paragraphs over to figure it out. There were also some places that should have been edited better. Besides that; the story was pretty good & I enjoyed it. I'll read the next book in the series.

Tigers
Dylan's is the head of his family streak of tigers but he's meet his mate and she's special. And because of that people are after her as we are introduced to the Golden family in book one. -
1.5 Stars!

I honestly loved every page of this story. It should probably come as no surprise to anyone who follows my reviews that I am a huge fan of Kathi S Barton
-
Kathi Barton is my go to author. I tend to buy her books first then read the synopsis, and with this one I wasn't disappointed.
Ryland Golden doesn't think he could need more from life. He's got wealth, family, and a job that keeps him happy.
Bronwyn is living my the skin of her teeth. Traveling all over the place to keep ahead of those that hunt her doesn't give her any chance to set roots or make friends.
After a rescue outside of her work Bronwyn now is working in Golden Towers to pay off her debt to Alistair. She never expected to meet a man who would claim to be her mate or even want her. Ryland doesn't know what to do with Bronwyn, she's not like most women, and he never expected somebody as stubborn as him to be his mate. But now Ryland has to prove that he can help protect her and his streak and convince her to settle with him.
One thing that did kind of get on my nerves while reading this story was there was so much talking going on between characters and there were times I didn't know who was talk and to whom. I think a little cleaning up and distinguishing between the character's dialogue would make this go a long way.
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book** -
I tried getting into this book. I really did. However during the first 10% of the book i was constantly confuse, i felt like i was thrown into a middle of the book. The first day h works at the company for example, she went through the day and then suddenly she bleeds. I mean the writer should've at least give a clue that she was in pain. I was really confused, what happens? She was fine a moment ago? She didn't say anything about her wound at all.
I am not usually so pickle about grammar or spelling but this book seriously needs an editor. Like pronto. Most of the time i don't know who said what and it's really disconcerting. I want to read a book, not play a puzzle.
Before this i don't exactly understand the terms "showing instead of telling", the term was practically made for this book. There is this part where the writer literally told us that H asks the h why and then the h answered. Why doesn't the writer just made H asks h instead of telling me he did?
Through the little of the book that i managed to read i couldn't connect to any of the characters at all. I'm sorry but at 22% this is a DNF for me. Not sure if i'm going to read the second book. -
Another Start to an Excellent Series!
This book contains a very strong woman who has many talented gifts, several tiger shifters & a very bad man. This book is also a HEA & standalone but in order to enjoy this series to the fullest I would suggest that you read all of the books in this series. Ryland & Bronwyn's story begin when she has to work in the building that Ryland owns to pay his brother Alistair for representing her at court when she was arrested for saving his life (of course there's more to that story but you will have to read the book to find out what it is). Bronwyn was also shot in that same story & somehow during her 1st work day she reopens her stitches & when Ryland gets a whiff of her scent he then knows that she's his mate. Their relationship is very interesting because at 1st she doesn't want to have anything to do with him or his family; but after a while she comes around to the idea of being his mate in between trying not to get captured by the mad man who wants to experiment on her. This book was excellent & I will be reading book 2 in this series next. -
Favorite Line(s) “I wouldn’t carry a machine gun with a baby. For one, the gun would be too awkward, and secondly, the baby would be a distraction if I had to shoot someone.”
Wow, incredibly sexy tiger shifter oh my! Ryland is well a jerk and Bronwyn well is just awesome. She can not only shift, but she can also do AMAZING things with her mind.
She trust no one so naturally when Rylan announces she's his mate well lets just say its. It smooth sailing from there. This book was a great read. I wish it was longer but, it was a page turner from the beginning. Another great book by an amazing author!
Kathi has done it again! I am so excited to see what this series has in store! I can't wait to see which brother is in the next story!
I was given this book by publisher in exchange for an honest review.

FIVER TIGER FAIRIS -
Great plot idea, terrible writing execution.
Struggled with this world due to the way women are thought of and treated. I really just couldn’t get over these actions.
Plus, this book really needs a serious overhaul.
The writing style is so terrible and it is extremely confusing as to whom is speaking at times.
Ryland is a bit of a condescending pig at first. Doesn’t really improve but becomes tolerable.
Bronwyn is interesting and has some real freaky powers but at times seemed more macho than the males.
The fact that Bronwyn had such a terrible past but just fell for Ryland so quickly didn’t feel believable.
Really needs to be tidied up for all the errors. They get annoying.
Read years ago but do not remember which says it all as I have a good memory for books I enjoy. -
I truly enjoyed this book!!! Tiger shifter's prove to be different than what other's had thought. A young woman who had been a lab experiment for sick man with a plan to create a whole new being. So he can sell them to the highest bidders. The Golden's a tiger streak, have an empire of a business. Rylan Golden is only focused on work and doesn't care about anything else. Bronwyn is down on her luck, trying to pay back her lawyer by working for the Golden's. They never thought that they'd find their mates!! It's an adventure of getting the bad guys and falling in love!! I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this amazing series!!

Ryland is a pretty good story with an interesting plot.
Bronwyn is hired in by Alistair to pay for the fee she owes him. What she didn't expect was to have to deal with his brother, Ryland who is a tiger. Bronwyn has some very interesting talent herself so of course she has bad guys after her.
I didn't feel the relationship between the H/h, its like your my mate and so there, end of story, I just felt that was to easy especially how persistent Bronwyn was against being his mate.
Also the writing was choppy and confusing not smooth or clear. Sometimes I wasn't even sure who was talking and had to reread it.
Overall not bad just needs some work. -
3 1/2

Kathi S. Barton is an excellent author. Once I start reading her books I cannot stop until I am finished and it doesn't matter, what time it is.
Ryland moved along at a great pace from beginning to end and I could not put it down. The characters are amazing and you want to see them overcome everything that is in there way. The story was awesome.
I look forward to reading more from this amazing author in the near future, and have no problem recommending her books to everyone.
Keep it up. -
Wolves, Tiger and Bears Oh My
This book was paranormal at its best. Ryland is a tiger shifter who can't seem to keep his secretaries. Bronwyn is filling in as his secretary because she owe his brother. What ensues from there is a thrilling page turner that you will not want to put down, and if you do it's just to find your mate from reading the combustible sex scenes in this book. I love the fact that Bronwyn is more than I would have thought and funny to boot. This was such a great read I can't wait to see what brother is next. -
Nothing is better then a big cat shifter alpha male with a huge attitude and a mate that is a bigger bad ass then him. Great characters, lots of action, amusing interactions, good plot and interesting storyline. I really love the mother, it is funny to see these grown shifter men bow down and seem to be afraid to make her mad. There is a lot going on in this book and as it is book one, we are introduced to many characters and I look forward to reading their stories as this series continues. A fun read and a great start to a new series.
I was given an ARC for an honest review -
Well, what to say about this one? I have to admit I liked the story itself, however the execution was terrible. Grammar, word order, characters' interactios, etc. it was so confusing and poorly written that I found myself reading some pages over and over just to understand who was saying what. It felt like no one read this book (besides the author) before it was published. Where was a proofreader, or a beta reader, someone, anyone...
There is an interesting story here, I just feel that the author did a terrible job in writing it.
