A new prophecy leads to a dangerous quest.
When Percy receives an urgent distress call from Grover, he immediately prepares for battle. He knows he'll need his powerful demigod allies, Annabeth and Thalia, at his side; his trusty bronze sword, Riptide; and a ride from his mom.
The demigods race to the rescue, only to find that Grover has made an important discovery: two new powerful half-bloods, whose parentage is unknown. But that's not all that awaits them. The Titan lord, Kronos, has set up his most devious trap yet, and the young heroes have just fallen prey.
Now, Percy and his friends are faced with their most dangerous challenge-the chilling prophecy of the Titan's Curse. They must rescue the goddess Artemis by the Winter Solstice, or all will be lost including Annabeth.
Rick Riordan's internationally best-selling "The Titan's Curse" becomes a graphic novel in the hands of comic-book luminaries Robert Venditti, Attila Futaki, and Gregory Guilhaumond.

Let's talk about artwork, shall we?!

    Spoiler Alert!

Thalia is back. The only problem is- she looks like a bro, brah. Now, this is not to say that if she wants to look like a boy that I am opposed to it. By all means, look like a bro, brah. That's not my issue. MY issue is that Percy, Thalia, Nico and sometimes even Grover ALL look like Thalia. There is almost no discernible trait that makes it possible for you to tell them apart.

In fact in one sequence, Thalia, Nico and Percy are all wearing green jackets. So you have close-up shots of each of them and you don't really know who the fuck is actually talking. Which is great when you're trying to follow a storyline. Right? Wrong.

So this one gets 2 shiny stars removed. I know Thalia was described as having short black hair, but come on, brah! You could totally give her some fancier eye lashes or something to make her stand out like a girl. You're a fucking artist. That's literally your one job in life. Brush up on your skills a bit before the release of book 4 please! It really took me out of the story.

Lastly, this one was overwhelmingly wordy to me. A little too drawn out, not nearly as exciting to me as the previous two. I think some big scenes were rushed through while the boring shit was dragged out for all eternity.

I really hope the next one is better because this just wasn't up to the standards I had come to expect after the first two.

these are definitely getting better in quality but -1 star for not including the dam scene

  • isabelle

    Come on.

    description

Did someone rip out pages of my copy? Where is the Dam Scene? Why does Apollo look like a 70 year old man? Who is that tall, dark-haired boy in the beginning AND on the cover? Oh, it's Thalia?

All these questions and more coming to aggravating graphic novels near you.

    ◾︎review
◽︎not review but i'll include anyway

◽︎ Picked this up because it's Percy's birthday.
◽︎ I really love The Titan's Curse and I miss it.
◾︎ The characters are not how I imagined them.
↳They look too old for their age. (Percy looks 30 years old when he's actually just 14 yo here. Apollo looks like a 50 yo dude.)
↳"Who's this guy?" Oh, it's Thalia. Not a dude, then.
↳Rachel looks like a combination of how I imagined Clarisse and Nancy Bobofit.
◾︎ Not as "packed" (juicy? dense? idk the word grrr) as the not-graphic-novel, of course, since this focuses more on the illustrations. Still.
◾︎ Would serve as a good recap tho.
◽︎ I keep on accidentally typing Pervy instead of Percy.
◾︎ The dialogue bubbles are great. The way the artist change colors and bubble shapes when the speaker is not human or not in the room where the discussion is being held is useful for me.
◾︎ The colors are amazing! I had to stop for some time to admire it. That part where we first saw Blackjack on this book. The sky, the sea... I love it.
◽︎ I've never been on a train so I had a different image in my head on that scene after the nemean lion attack, where they rode the train and Percy met incognito Apollo. They LITERALLY rode cars ON train. I thought the "car" meant the rooms on a train. Like on Harry Potter, the train has rooms with walls and doors. Does that make sense?
◾︎ There's the dam, but not the dam joke ಠ╭╮ಠ
◾︎ They didn't include Zoe's last words "I can see the stars again, m'lady."
◾︎ Also deleted, the scene where Percy thought Artemis would invite Annabeth to be a hunter and he didn't want it. I think that part was important.

    Another excellent book!

The third graphic novel in the Percy Jackson series continues the excellence of the first two! A different reading experience than the actual novels but just as fun! 5 stars!

Something I love about the Titans Curse is the emotional connections made throughout the book. Unfortunately, that was either glossed over or left out completely in this graphic novel. I felt like this skipped so much! Maybe it wasn't totally necessary to the plot but it adds context that can really help a story feel complete. Something else that frustrated me was the illustrations of character's faces. It seemed like they kept shifting art styles each page which left me pondering who was who more than once. Overall, I wasn't a huge fan of this GN but I love the story - I just wish we had gotten more of it.

  • ren

I love these graphic novels! They're so fun to read along with the books, and I highly recommend doing so.

i don't like these comics at all. all of the characters look so strange and not how they're supposed to look. especially apollo in this one gave me the creeps

Not my favorite but it's also not my favorite of the original novels so it's not really the books fault; I do feel like this is the story with the first large-scale battle, and it doesn't really come through because of how fast the graphic novels seem to speed through scenes. One that I would've wanted to hold more weight were the scenes of Percy/Annabeth holding up the universe — the art is cool but it feels like we don't really get the feeling that time is passing by more slowly because of how heavy the burden is.

Once again: read this if you've already read the original books, but don't start your PJO journey with this.

Weer zeer mooi vormgegeven.

    Yes, just yes.

    Signing off,

Artworks even better in this one

  • Feyre

  • Yuriyurika

    Yeah...I'll just leave this here

    And not look back

  • Bryan L

Estuvo bastante entretenido.

    Exciting

    Another Percy Jackson winner.

As in other books, the characters were very easy to relate with and cheer for.

    A great read

  • mikey

This is really disappointing since this is my favorite book of the series, but this was just not that good. First, they didn’t have the dam scene, also the art made me very confused on who exactly was who, so many scenes were missing and it was just very hard to follow. It would make no sense to someone who hadn’t read the book, and if you haven’t read the book the only reason you’d really read this was for the art, but even that was subpar in my tastes.

    haha

  • May

I enjoyed this graphic novel also but I really wish they didn't skip the dam scene! Besides that I still enjoyed seeing the illustration.

  • Leon E

    Great book for greek fans.

  • Onisim Pînzariu

I forgot so much from this book, it was a nice recap! It's so funny to see these characters so young and with so little experience.

  • Ashley

I love the cover art! I think I'd love anything that shows Percy looking all impressive and powerful--the true son of a sea god--but this image really stands out to me. You've got the faces of the Big Three, with Poseidon front and centre above his son. Thalia is on his left, holding Aegis, her terrifying shield and summoning lightning in her "daughter of Zeus" move, with Zeus' face above her. On his right is Hades above poor little Nico Di Angelo (someone who I'm really starting to feel sorry for after reading HoH, but also wish Riordan would cut the kid SOME slack on the 'everybody hates me' plotline).

This graphic novel is as action-packed as the other two before it, although my lower rating comes from my disappointment in one particular area. Firstly, is the depiction of Thalia. I spent the first third of the book trying to figure out who the dark-haired boy with Percy was. Thalia is supposed to be a little bad-ass, with short, spiky hair, a leather jacket and combat boots, but I quite literally could not figure her out until Apollo showed up and named her as the daughter of Zeus. There were SOME pages where Thalia is shown very close up with thick lashes and feminine features, but for the most part, she looks like a scrawny, poorly drawn male. I'm disappointed in the artist here, but also in Riordan failing to stop this. We really couldn't make Thalia LOOK like Thalia, when Riordan himself already has her depicted in his book The Demigod Diaries?

I also struggle with the fact that all the faces of the older men in this book look too intense and almost mean, no matter what emotion they are trying to convey. There's one scene where Chiron is comforting Percy, but his expression looks just downright cruel.

I'm sad to critique the art of this graphic novel, but it really does bother me that there's a breakdown in the characters. Subjective interpretation is always a factor in these graphic novel-spin offs, but Thalia is so undefined and poorly represented that I, as an adult reader with an English degree, who has read the Percy Jackson book multiple times, had a lot of difficulty figuring out who the tall, scrawny boy was. Moreover, the expressions of the characters are just as important. The dialogue is almost secondary to the images in a graphic novel, but in many of the scenes to take away the dialogue would be to completely alter the story in the reader's interpretation.

The book does a good job at capturing the story and it follows a trimmed version of he plot of The Titan's Curse but if you're looking for a more faithful adaptation, the first two graphic novels were far better.

Here's to hoping The Battle of the Labyrinth is a bit more on the mark...

E poi Rachel, Nico, Apollo ecc...
Prima i film, poi i Graphic Novel.

  • Jennifer

I wasn't a huge of this.. I did not like the way the characters looked, and so many parts were taken out. This is the last Graphic Novel that was released, i'm sad I wish there was more. This was definitely my least favourite of the three.

  • Devann

Once again this was a pretty fun way to spend a half an hour but I wouldn't recommend reading it before you read the book because it definitely runs through everything pretty quickly. Also I love Thalia and Nico :)))

  • Tabea Vanessa

While I still liked it and it was a lot of fun, this had intense issues of plot being left out of the last two Novels and just expecting you read the books. It’s basically the Harry Potter Movies where you are expected to fill in the holes yourself and that’s just lazy...
