But when a furious man stalks into her office and accuses her business of being a scam, Kate is given the ultimate challenge to prove herself. Slade puts himself in her hands and asks Kate to find him love. A cute and steamy love story with a twist of magic...

I always enjoy when a romance novel adds a slice of the paranormal within its plot. In this case, Kate has the "magic touch" and can determine whether or not couples are soul mates by her physical response to a single touch. She has built a successful matchmaking business surrounding her "skill", but sadly the one person she has trouble finding true love for is herself.

Enter Slade ... The sexy, arrogant, irresistible divorce attorney who will challenge the integrity of her dating company and finally ignite the spark for which she's been longing. The two settle on a compromise: Kate will find Slade his soul mate and prove she's legitimate, and he will drop his pursuit of proving her business fraudulent.

Simple enough? Not quite. Because Slade is convinced that love itself is a hoax, and Kate denies the intense spark she feels around him at every turn...

The majority of this story was fun and unique. I loved the slow build of the relationship and the cutesy cat-and-mouse chase presented. There were moments that ventured out into the silly, particularly at the end of the story, but my interest never faltered. Slade was extremely reluctant to commit and repeatedly yoyo'd Kate's emotions to the point where their relationship felt jammed inside a revolving door — but the final resolve was sweet and satisfying.

The out of the box epilogue was definitely a bit too odd for my taste, although I'm sure some will enjoy. Overall, this was a fun, enjoyable, light read and exactly what I was searching for at the moment.

    Wrong read for me :(

Actually, I had decided not to read this book because the heroine was a virgin and the hero was a divorced man.

Later, I decided to give it a chance because of the paranormal touch in it – I wanted to see if it was going to be interesting.

Also, some friends encouraged me and I was curious. Now, I apologize to my dear friends (who liked it) for my negative review about it. It seems my initial instincts are usually correct because I know myself. I am really sorry to say that this book was so very wrong for me. It doesn’t mean that it is bad, it was just not for me!

    ***********************************************

Let me explain myself and my pet peeves so that I can hopefully help other readers about their decision without misleading them.

Here is how it usually goes for me:

    1. If one or both of the MCs are virgins, it is a %95 possibility that I will hate the book.

Virgin heroine books always have the same problem. As soon as he realizes she is a virgin, he thinks it is a burden and responsibility. He thinks because she waited for such a long time and then decided to give it to him in the end, that means her expectations from him will be great many. He gets scared, he gets angry and he runs away. So very cliché and frustrating!

And more importantly, I always believe that they should be their last lovers, not first lovers. First lovers & forever doesn’t sound convincing/appealing/interesting to me!

(Also, see the note at the very end, pls)

    2. If the romance is more on the cheesy and fairy-tale like side, then, again it is a %90 possibility that I will find it lame, boring and cheesy.

If I had read a non-erotic version of this book when I was a child, say 6-10 years old, I would definitely have liked it. A fairy tale love story with a little bit of magic – what’s not to like? But at this age, it is just not my thing.

Well, because this book had it - I mean, all the things I mentioned in #1 & #2, it lost me in the first quarter.

The whole thing felt so cliché, predictable and boring that I couldn’t continue reading. I just skimmed and scanned after a certain point.

Therefore, this is my review based on my skimming ability 😊

    ***********************************************

This is the story of a matchmaker and a divorce lawyer. Our heroine Kate has a witchy touch which tells her whether or not two people are a good match. Her job is based on good research but she uses her magic ability to make sure it is the right match.

That’s why, when it came to her own match, when the “touch” showed her who her soul mate was, it was stupid of her to resist and try to make herself believe that it must be wrong. Why is it right for everybody but wrong for her? Weird!?

Of course, our hero, who happens to be a divorced lawyer resists the idea of love at first. Then, he falls in love while trying to prove love doesn’t exist. Again, very unoriginal.

    ***********************************************

And what was that about the word “mating”? It was so overused that I wanted to puke…
    He wanted to mate…
A mating urge forced him to do this and that etc…

Yikes! I thought I was among some gorillas.

    ***********************************************

Yeah yeah, I wish I had never tried to read this book because I know myself, I know what I will love or hate so I should have relied on my first instincts.

Well, I swear I won’t read a romance with a virgin in it again! And I promise I won’t bother you with my rant about them…

And I swear I will try to stay away from all paranormal sh*t! I am no good reader for them, either! Very rarely, writers handle this paranormal touch in a sensible way. This one was way too cheesy and childish for me.

    Final thoughts:

Did I hate everything in this book? => No, I loved the dog.

    SAFETY:

When Kate pushes him away because she doesn't trust him, he goes on a few dates with the women Kate and her assistants choose for him and kisses one of those women. Nothing else happens regarding the issue of cheating.

    ***********************************************

    Note:

Virginity is still very important in my country. Most men still expect women to save themselves for marriage. She is worthless if she is a non-virgin.

So seeing how women are valued and respected upon being a virgin or not might be fueling my hatred/anger/resentment for this issue.

I see that in many parts of the world, women are treated equally with men on this subject and I wish it were the same here in my country. Well, of course there are really good men who decide upon a woman's value on more important things but it is still just the minority, unfortunately...

Why did I explain this now?

Well, because I have loads of virginity talk around me in real life, I prefer none in my fiction world, that's why :)

Me encantó. Me encantó. Me encantó. Finally!!!!

A matchmaker and a divorce lawyer. That's got success written all over it.
Kate is a successful business owner of Kinnections matchmaking agency. Her two best friends are the other employees of the company. Kate has a special ability to tell if the person your with is your soul mate.

Slade is the top divorce lawyer in the state. He’s an overprotective big brother and when he finds out his sister is using Kinnections he makes it his mission to prove that the business is a fraud. He signs up to be a client with every intention to show his sister that the place is a sham.

Kate and Slade fight their 'kinnection.' Slade isn't one for happily ever afters.
I’m not looking for forever. But I am looking for someday.

Searching for Someday is like eating candy because it’s like a guilty pleasure. It's a fun cute love story. There's no big plot twist to figure out. The story is told in dual pov except for the epilogue which was told in the dog’s pov. The epilogue was too corny for my taste.

    description

Could a divorce lawyer and a matchmaker ever work out? Well, Kate is about to find that out since she felt the touch for the first time.
Let me explain: Kate has some kind of a magical touch. She feels a spark every time she feels a true connection between two people. So she uses that gift to help people find their true love and create a matchmaking company that is becoming quite successful.
She never felt that touch with herself, until the day Slade, the divorce lawyer becomes one of her clients. The bad thing? He’s just doing it to try to protect his sister and to prove that Kate’s business is nothing but a scam.

But the touch never lies and when business bring them closer, well, love has magic way of intrude itself into people’s lives. Even when they don’t want it.

    Rating: 3,5 Stars.
Storyline: Sweet, romantic and magical. It was a little cheesy at some moments, but definitely one of those books for hen you need something light and sweet.
Writing Style: Third person, dual POV. A pretty charming story.
Character Development: Kate was sweet but kind of naïve and frustrating at some moments. Slade was also nice although sometimes annoying, and somehow I can’t wrap my mind about his name. I’m sorry, but Slade reminds me of a rock-star, a biker or a football player. His name reminds me of a bad boy and definitely not of a responsible divorce lawyer.
The best thing about this book characters? Kate’s mom. She was so freaking awesome!!!
    Steam: Some heated scenes.

Luckily, I found this book at our local bargain bookstore (I love you Booksale! Haha!) and bought it immediately. I've heard nothing but great things about Jennifer Probst's novels and I'm glad to say I really like this book.

Kate Seymour can sense if there's a love connection between two people. It's her gift which benefited as one of the owners of a matchmaking agency called Kinnections. For years, she's been an expert on matchmaking and as for her love life, she's still searching for her soulmate until she met Slade Montgomery.

Slade is a divorce lawyer. When he found out his sister signed up in a matchmaking agency, he was worried. He's protective over his sister and he does not want to relive the moment when she tried to commit suicide for having a broken heart. He wants to make sure that this matchmaking agency is legit and safe or he'll sue them. He doesn't believe in love but Kate says otherwise. So, she asked him to sign up and find the woman he'll love.

The romance between these two was simply adorable. I'm invested how Slade pursues Kate even if she continually denies their connection. It's quite a chase but the push and pull between gradually developed their relationship. It has the right amount of drama but I find the last three chapters a bit boring. The epilogue was great and Robert (Kate's dog) made my night. That dog deserves all the love.

    4.5☆

Kate Seymour is a beautiful, confident woman with blonde hair and blue eyes. Your typical Barbie look alike. She owns a matchmaking company called Kinnections with her two college friends Kennedy and Arilyn. She met Kennedy and Arilyn at NYU along with her other best friend Genevieve MacKenzie. They live in a small town in NY. Kate and the other women in her family all have a gift that is passed down through generations. They are able to sense a romantic connection between two people. They consider this ability to be a gift and refer to it as "the touch". When two people are meant to be together Kate senses a strong energy like a jolt of electricity. Kate uses her gift to help others find love, but never seems to find a lasting relationship for herself. She continues to wait for her true mate, and wants to find the one that she is to be with forever.

Then Slade Montgomery enters her world. Slade is a gorgeous divorce attorney with green eyes, and caramel colored surfer hair. He is very cynical from his profession of constantly dealing with broken relationships. Slade's sister Jane has experienced one romantic disaster after another, and has decided to sign up at Kate's matchmaking company to find love. Slade is an extremely over protective brother and storms into Kate's office and confronts her about her business. He believes it is all just one big scam to make money. Wanting to keep an eye on his sister and learn more about the process his sister will be going through, Slade signs himself up as a client to be matched. He tells Kate he believes true love doesn't exist, and offers her the challenge to prove him wrong. He is positive she will fail in finding him his soul mate.

Kate has pretty much given up on finding her own match after countless failed dates. One day when Slade is near they touch and she gets that instant jolt of recognition. She feels a pull toward him like nothing she has ever felt before, and eventually realizes he was meant for her. Even though she knows he is her match, she continues to lead with her head and not her heart. She sets him up on various dates with other women, and tries to remain professional, since she doesn't date clients. Eventually Kate and Slade stop fighting what is meant to be.

I thought this was a fun, romantic book full of friendship and love! I liked that the couples from the other marriage books make an appearance in this one. My favorite appearance was Wolfe! Wolfe is best friends with Kate's best friend Genevieve, who also happens to be Alexa's sister. I really look forward to more of Wolfe in future books, & already have a lady picked out for him that I hope ends up being his romantic interest. I also liked that the purple book of spells continues to work its magic in this series as well. Another excellent book by Jennifer Probst! Can't wait for more in this series! :)))

2 - Oh so average stars...

The storyline and characters have potential in this series, but unfortunately I found Searching for Someday to be pretty standard.

Lots of the usual tropes have been thrown in for good measure, all of which I am starting to find a bit mind numbing now. I didn't particularly connect with either the H/h, Kate even with her 'magical' touch and quirkiness was all very grey and lacking colour for me.

    Slade had potential -

"I enjoy pleasure. I enjoy sex. I prefer a woman who asks me for what she wants so I can give it to her exactly the way she likes it, because one of the sweetest sounds in life is a woman screaming my name."..."I'm not into BDSM, but I've used blindfolds, scarves, and toys in the pursuit of the ultimate experience. I don't like to be tied up but prefer to do the tying. I don't need a woman on her knees unless she wants to be there."

But then he sort of morphed into a senior citizen, I mean I would never expect a 30 something guy to wear his reading glasses and a tie on a first date (well not in this decade anyway)...Never wearing (or owning) a pair jeans as well, even if he is a hot-shot lawyer all just came across as the wrong generation to me.

I did love Robert the dog though!

  • Anne Boleyn's Ghost

    DNF at 2%.

"The waitress glided over and placed the check discreetly in the middle of the table. Kate held her breath, knowing this was the ultimate test. A man who paid for dinner on the first date had values. It was a make-or-break moment."

Yeah, this book isn't going to work for me. Look, the passage didn't send me into a Hulk rage. When I was dating, the men offered to pay on the first date, and it didn't bother me. But I always offered to pay for myself, too. And if my date accepted, it would never have occurred to me to think that he didn't have values or to make a negative assessment of his character because he actually listened to my suggestion.

There are SO many more important things that indicate a man's values. Like whether he is sexist. Or racist. Or homophobic. Not whether he will go dutch on the first date.

I am a fan of miss Probst work. So when i got the audio book for Searching for Someday, i just have to read it. See her works always have this cute magical love spell. And the banter between her characters are the most fun battle of sexes.

This book have all of those signature from miss Probst. And i think Robert deserves his own book. He is just too cute.

Kate owns Konnections...a business catered to finding love. She's worked hard to grow her business and she's proud of her ability to match people up with their soul mates. Slade is a divorce lawyer with zero expectations that true happily ever afters exist. His ex-wife cheated on him and his career is based on a constant traffic flow of love gone bad. So when his sister signs up for this bogus match making business, he barrels into their office threatening to shut them down. His sister was suicidal after being dumped by the last guy. He's not going to allow this fly-by-night operation mess her up again!

Slade couldn't believe his attraction to Kate that faithful day. How did he end up agreeing to let her find him his true love to prove he's wrong? Oh yah, he's doing it to prove he's right! She can try but he knows he won't fall in love and find his so-called soul mate. Game on!

I enjoyed this book. It had a lot of the tug-of-war angsty stuff we've grown accustomed to. While Kate is feverishly trying to find the girl for Slade, she's falling for him...and he for her. But she refuses to mix business with pleasure. But she's getting "the feeling." What feeling is that? Well, she has a gift that runs in her family. A sixth sense for matching people. She experiences a jolt of recognition when she meets a couple meant to be together.

I think the magical part of the book may make or break it for people. Some may find it cheesy but it didn't annoy me much. What Kate doesn't expect is this jolt to occur when she touches Slade. She fights it....blocks it...until it impedes her power to sense it for other people. Slade can feel it too. He's drawn to her but is dead set against love. Kate wants the happily ever after romance and Slade just can't give her that. There's no such thing as true love. It's just oxytocin. A chemical in the body!

Some parts of the book included other side characters I'm guessing were in there to set us up for future books in the series. Some of these side stories were a diversion and it distracted me from the true story at times. I think they could've shaved down some of that. Still a fun, enjoyable read! I am not a paranormal fan and this was just a tiny bit that but I wouldn't even tag it PNR. It just made it more of a magical cute love story. Rest assured there's steam too!

I love a story where you take a cynical person and make them a believer!

Tan hermoso, mejor no podría haber acabado.

    description

Searching for Someday by Jennifer Probst was just an enjoyable read for me. I enjoyed reading the Marriage to a Billionaire series so I knew this was going to be good. In some ways I enjoyed this book a bit more.

What would you do to find your perfect mate? Do you really believe in true love? Would you put your trust into the hands of people you don’t know to hopefully find the love of your life?

Kate Seymour is one of the owners of Kinnections, which is a matchmaking company in a little town in New York. She runs the company with two other friends. Kennedy runs all the events and she handles the makeovers too. Arilyn is the counselor that helps members with a variety of issues as well as helping them engage fully in the experience. They were brought together at College and they have been close friends ever since.

Kate’s contribution to the company was a bit different, a bit magical I guess you can say. She has a “sixth” sense, or as Kate would sometimes refer to it as the family curse! :) She has the ability to sense a couple’s romantic connection through a type of electrical shock she feels once she touches both people at the same time. Though she would rely on scientific facts and personal factors to make couple matches, she just couldn’t ignore her gift. :)

Enter Slade Montgomery! He was great. He is a handsome, hot and sexy divorce lawyer in Manhattan. He is also the brother of Jane who happens to be one of the newest clients of Kinnections.

Jane has had to overcome some difficult things in her life. Slade and Jane are very close. Because of her past, Slade is very protective of her and her heart. But Jane decides she is going to make some changes in her life. He is not happy about some of the changes she is making and tries hard to convince her otherwise.

Jane decides she is going to try Kinnections. She wants to finally have that special person in her life. You guessed it….Slade is not a believer. Being a bit cynical when it comes to love and very protective of his sister, he decides to find out what Kinnections is all about. He becomes a member too. Yikes...

Kate and Slade go head to head from the beginning. She is a believer and he is not. Their first meeting does not go well at all. But, Kate was shocked (literally)!! When she touches Slade and feels the energy surge through her she panics. Slade feels it too but has no clue what it is.

Reading their story was sweet. Kate does everything she can to ignore the connection. Slade on the other hand realizes it and wants her. Kate is not easy to convince though. How could her "curse" be right. She believes in love and Slade does not. Has she lost the gift?

The buildup was perfectly paced. There was disappointment and happiness. There was indifference and compassion. Then there was resistance and submission. As a reader, you knew they wanted to be together. Their chemistry was obvious. But before they got that HEA they had to work through their different beliefs. How they come together is great!

In addition to the bit of magic that made this story different, Kate’s dog Robert added something special too. For me he represented such a big part of who she was. I just loved the Epilogue too!

Searching for Someday was unique and fresh. It was fun and a bit quirky too! Kate and Slade’s story was that feel good love story that will leave you with a full heart!

    My Rating: ★★★½

GOOD: The characteristics of a 3 star book include: interesting characters, a decent storyline, and unique story elements; there was something about the story that I didn’t completely connect with; the book is a solid read. I would recommend it to a friend.
This book was received from the publisher via Net Galley for an honest review.

    My Thoughts:
Ok, after letting the story settle an entire day, I've come back to write my review about this one.

To begin, I liked the different tract that Probst took with the story. It was a contemporary romance but contained a bit of magic with the addition of "the touch" or curse as Kate thought of it. The story was an easy read and had no major plot holes or glaring "nuh uhn!" moments. Overall,
Searching for Someday was light-hearted and enjoyable.

So then why the three stars you ask?

My lukewarm feelings came from the characters and not the story itself of the story. Kate was sweet and open to love and finding her soul mate. The almost thirty year old virgin aspect threw me off kilter a bit. Her reason for being a virgin just didn't jibe for me. It felt almost contrived to fit within the framework of the story. But, I liked her. I liked how she interacted with her friends and her clients...especially Slade's sister, Jane. I actually liked Slade too. He was overbearing in his, "I am alpha. I am right" kind of way but it worked for the story. He was brooding and protective and totally resistant to the concept of love and happily ever after. He was Kate's polar opposite. And boy did sparks fly because of it.

I know. You're still confused why it's only three and a half stars. Well, let me explain a bit.

As much as I liked Kate and as much as I liked Slade, I did not like them together. They did not pair well at all for me. I might be in the minority on this one and that's perfectly ok. I know that opposites attract was the subtle theme of this story and in theory, that should have totally worked. But, it didn't...at least for me (I have to stress the "for me" part). There was something about Kate and Slade together that slightly put me off. The "will they, won't they" back and forth wore on me after a while. One minute he's pursuing and she's backing off, and the next she is pursuing and he is backing off. And, their reasons for backing off were a rudimentary...especially when their overt attraction proved that they should be together. The process of them actually getting together took a long time. The faux dates and the sorta-kinda-maybe-I-have-a-boyfriend-at-home drama languished.

But I didn't hate the story. I really didn't. I was just expecting more. What that "more" was, I don't know but I didn't feel that it ever happened by the end of the story.

I like the set up for future books in the series. Inevitably, we know that there will be a story about Arilyn, Kennedy, Genevieve and, by extension, Isabella. I am actually interested in reading more about Gen. The possible triangle situation there could make for quite the interesting read.

The best part of the story for me was the epilogue. I actually got a little teary. I loved Robert. Such a sweety.

Love is a funny thing… If we don’t love ourselves first, the emotion can be redirected in harmful ways.

    3.75 – 4 Stars

Searching for Someday is a sweet, comical read Jennifer Probst is known for.

Kate is a match maker and she’s very good at her job, but she isn’t so great with her own love life. Slade is a divorce lawyer and is very jaded. He once believed in love and realized its nothing more but hopeless dreams.

Slade’s sister enlisted Kate’s help in Kate’s match making services to find someone, but Slade isn’t having any of it. Slade is very protective of his sister and decides to enroll in Kate’s match making services to keep an eye out on his sister. But by enrolling he has to give up personal details of his life and indirectly get closer to Kate.

I’ve read plenty of Probst’s reads and she is known for super steamy novels, so first off, I was surprised on two things. One, I thought the steam was very lacking and two, I thought the tension and build up took forever. It was almost the book was written by a whole new person.

I didn’t hate the book, it was overall enjoyable and I did laugh out loud at some of the parts, but I was just having a hard time with the writing style. I thought the beginning was a big long and dragged out. I understand I needed to get to know Kate, but I started to skim. I just didn’t care what was going on in her head and why she was so defensive.

There’s a reason why Kate is good at her job and I thought it was very cute and funny, but Kate frustrated me a bit. Sometimes I want some witty banter between the Hero and Heroine and sometimes I’m just screaming, alright, ENOUGH! Just get together. I was in the latter category.

I also felt like there were some filler scenes and extra descriptive writing. I was just skimming pages of extra nonsense. I didn’t care what her friends thought, I didn’t care for the extra story lines, I just wanted to see chemistry between Slade and Kate. I think too much writing was focused on Kate and Slade pushing each other away, then actually them forming a relationship.

The whole storyline is cute, but it just didn’t quite lead up to what I was expecting. I did enjoy some parts and the dialogue between Slade and Kate was fine, I just wanted a little more I guess.

    2,5
