This Is Happening: Life Through the Lens of Instagram Reviews

This book offers a nicely curated collection of photos that have been published on Instagram. In order to put together these photos, the editor called for submissions, to which many Instagram users responded. I like the square format for photography and it's cool seeing how others have made use of this format in their own photos.
I wish a commentary would've been provided for each photo; perhaps a little about the composition or the story behind the photo, or at least when and where these photos were taken. Since all of these things are lacking and photos are featured on their own, while the credits have been appended, there's little this book offers besides a visual collection of random Instagram photos. Basically, all this book offers is a collection of Instagram photos devoid of terrible photos and screenshots of WhatsApp conversations that sometimes flood Instagram feeds. -
It's exactly what you think it is: an Instagram feed between two covers. A short preface (maybe five quick paragraphs?) and then 200+ self-indulgent user-submitted shots from Instagram subscriber accounts.
This is not to say that the photos aren't pretty; of course they are. But to condense Instagram into a pretty little gift book, in an effort to make it anything more than what it is, is laughable. I'm glad I only got this one through my library; I'd be incredibly annoyed if I'd paid actual dollars for it. As it is, I'd like a refund of the eleven minutes that it took to read (sorry; "read"). -
The book description explains this book perfectly. Some simple stunning photos, some thought provoking, many with not so good exposures but still a photo of a moment in time, which makes them pleasing to look at.
I gave this book 4 stars, not because it is filled with perfect beautiful photos but because this book is exactly what its' title says it is.
I think this book was a simple fun look into our lives. -
A real mixture of photographs from Instagram, some inspiring, however some also very 'ordinary' and it did make me wonder how on earth they were selected to appear in a book sadly. Nevertheless, I found the book a relaxing read, however captions to accompany the photographs would have been really useful.

This book is amazing! I mean someone actually had the guts to go out and produce such a book in hopes someone will buy images that get few views.
-
Beautiful compilation! <3
-
Poorly chosen pictures with unfavorable filters.

This was a good attempt, but it could have been so much more. I enjoyed the artistry of the iPhone and all the things you can do with them via Instagram. But it takes a bunch of REALLY outstanding shots to make a book that people are going to want to look at.

fantastic pictures from instagram
-
Beautiful and sticking images, but unlike Instagram the book does not provide context.
-
It's not much, just pages of images posted on Instagram, but there were some really good pictures there that inspired me.

I got this at the library. It's a collection of photographs posted on Instagram. It's mildly interesting but I wouldn't have spent money to buy this.
-
It's basically a book of Instagram photos but so inspiring! Time to up my phone photography game!
-
terrible design, bad photos. #inspiration to never using a filter ever again

It was a book full of Instagram photos. What can you say?
