Serena has grown up on a simple, peaceful planet. She has always been a little different, having brief spells where she heard voices but couldn't understand the words then blacking out. She has also been enthralled by the sky and wanting to know what was out there. When she notes a falling star and goes to locate it she comes upon a ship and its crew. Her curiosity leads to her capture and departure from her home planet. Darian and his crew have been sent to capture the girl with the strange communicating powers, powers that a few women possess in his world and that are necessary for their space exploration. Serena is soon in training and found to be more powerful than any of the existing women, however, she also questions all of their sexist attitudes and many of their aggressive exploration policies. The relationship to Darian formed before they reach his home is forbidden once she begins training. But as Serena goes on her first interplanetary mission she begins pushing the boundaries. The story also gets more adventurous as an enemy is located and battles ensue. A great science fiction romance story.
