As Avery Miles tends to the hawk’s broken wing, she prays for her sister to find healing as well. Her goal has always been to keep Addisyn safe, but her every attempt to hang onto her sister only drives them farther apart. As the common ground between the sisters continues to shrink, they’re suddenly blindsided by a looming threat from Addisyn’s past. Now, they must discover what it would truly take to find healing—before the broken edges of their stories separate them for good.
The second book in the Climbing Higher series, Where the Wings Rise is a story of the scars that keep us earthbound, the choices that lead to healing, and most importantly, the faith that allows us to always fly free.
Where the Wings Rise (Climbing Higher, #2) Reviews

“Ticking off her mile markers on her journey toward tomorrow.”
It’s not often I’m aware of an author’s growth as I move between books in a series, but this time I was aware of the magnificent writing from the first page!
I also immediately felt a connection to nature. Ohm’s knowledge of the mountains and the animals and flora/fauna allowed her words to sparkle on the page. I felt as if she’d immersed me in the setting. The passages with the hawk were stellar!
Another thing that came across clearly was the push and pull of the interplay between the men in her life, her dream of an Olympic medal, and a desire to reconnect with her sibling. Having to shelve something that has become a big part of our experience is difficult.
Shining like a gossamer thread throughout was the warp and weft of faith. Ohm’s beliefs ground her characters and direct their actions.
Throughout the story, I had a feeling that Addisyn was on a journey and that Colorado was just a pit stop. I can’t wait for book three! -
Endorsement:
“If you need a gentle nudge to remind you that your past mistakes don’t define you and your present fears don’t have to control you, this book is for you. With touching themes and a cast of relatable characters, Where the Wings Rise is a beautiful story of family, love, and restoration.” -Caitlin Miller, author of The Memories We Painted and Our Yellow Tape Letters -
Endorsement: Where the Wings Rise is a beautiful story of surrender and redemption. With delightful prose, Ohm weaves a riveting tale that reminds readers that taking flight has nothing to do with the power of our own wings but the power of the One Who created and sustains us. - Erica Dansereau, author of Come Forth As Gold
4.5 ⭐️A beautiful book! -
“But I believe that any wound can be healed if we are willing to allow ourselves to be held. If we allow Someone higher to lift us and bind the wounds”
One of my favorite reads last year was When the Ice Melts by Ashlyn McKayla Ohm so when she announced she was writing a sequel to be released in 2023 I couldn’t wait to read it!
Let me tell you, Ashlyn DID NOT disappoint!!
Where the Wings Rise picks up after estranged sisters Addisyn and Avery Miles joyful reunion, following the at times messy and complicated journey of healing and mending their relationships with each other- and with God. The story is set in the Colorado Rockies- complete with elk bugles, winter storms, high mountains and a hawk. His journey of flying again after an injury highlights the overall theme of the book.
I can’t recommend this story enough, with its lovable and dynamic cast of characters, and beautiful, immersive setting that will get you lost in the Rocky Mountains. 🏔️🦌🌄
Ashlyn’s love for creation and her creator is evident in her storytelling. I’m so proud of her for producing another great release and can’t wait to read what comes from her next! Thank you Ashlyn for sending me a copy of your book in exchange for an honest review! -
Ashlyn Ohm’s books draw me in right away. This book really resonated with me. The need to let go and let God, even when our instincts as parents is to hang on and take care of our children on our own. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to where this author will take me next. 😊

"The wings will rise.
A spin of sky, for a single snap- translucent blue, shredded clouds swirling, and somehow, around and over and within the clouds, wings whirled. Vertigo whipped at her, and she stumbled.
Peace. The wings will rise."
After years lost, Avery is thrilled to have her sister with her again. Addisyn is mostly ready to start over, but she struggles with letting go of her ice skating career. She can't quite seem to catch on to the new plan. And she misses the man that she left behind. Can Avery and Addisyn find their footing? More importantly, can they each learn to truly trust God?
I loved the connections that were made between helping a bird to recover and helping others to heal from their own wounds. The imagery was beautiful. The title connects so well with the storyline. And Colorado provides the perfect backdrop for this story.
As a parent of teens, I could relate to this book. Holding on when we need to let go can be challenging. Avery had watched her younger sister make disastrous choices. As her surrogate mom, she felt the need to step in. But now she needs to find the courage to let Addisyn find her own path.
Unconditional love is an important theme in this book. So is grace and forgiveness. Romance is a part of the storyline, but in an understated way. There is also a bit of adventure and even suspense. I enjoyed reconnecting with the three main characters from the first book, but I also enjoyed the ones that were introduced in this book. Of course, there is one guy I could do without, but he is who pushed all of them toward finding a new start.
I did receive an advanced copy of this book to read. I really enjoyed the author's first book, When the Ice Melts, and could not wait to read this one. I wanted to review it. All opinions are my own. -
This second book in the Climbing Higher series picks up not too long after
When the Ice Melts, with sisters Addisyn and Avery trying to mend their relationship in the mountains of Colorado. When Avery is tasked with helping rehabilitate an injured hawk, the bird will come to symbolize more than the sisters could ever imagine.
Avery is thrilled to have her sister with her again. There's been a lot of water under the bridge, but it's a fresh start for Addisyn, and Avery is determined it will be a good one.
But figure skating keeps calling to Addisyn, and the lure of the ice is not easily ignored. Even though she senses Avery would not approve, she can't help wondering what if. Especially if her Canadian friend Darius is involved. But when her past rears its head, Addisyn has to weigh the risk between what she loves and the things which trapped her before.
This is a layered story with very real characters. Avery and Addisyn are both flawed but relatable, and their relationship has many landmines that readers are sure to recognize from their own experiences. The plot weaves intrigue, determination, and hope as each character seeks to hold tight to what they long for. But will holding on cost them too much?
I would recommend this book for fans of contemporary fiction and the mountains.
I received my copy of the book from the author. All thoughts in this review are my own.

I enjoyed Where the Wings Rise. Addisyn, a professional skater, allowed herself to get caught up in the tangles of competition with an agent who crossed her. Avery has found her home in the Rocky Mountains. The two of the them are trying to find there way and heal from childhood trauma. Darius wants to help Addisyn, but she pushes him away and Avery doesn't trust anyone with her baby sister. This story brings to light what God can do when you allow Him into your life. I love how Ohm portrays God as all-being and all-knowing master of creation. I also appreciate the nod to Native American culture and the story of the hawk. If you enjoy stories with a natural setting and family stories, you'll enjoy Where the Wings Rise. I was given a free copy with no expectations.

Where the Wings Rise by Ashlyn McKayla Ohm was an absolutely wonderful tale and a great sequel to When the Ice Melts both part of the Climbing Higher Series.
The story is rich in detail and I definitely appreciated how it kept God at the center of it throughout.
Both sisters: Addisyn and Avery were well-written and you felt for them on their journey together in mending their relationship with one another and with God.
It a story of persevering through hardship and of reclaiming one's faith, even when it is a challenge.
The tale really pulls the reader in,
I absolutely would recommend it!

Second in the series, I liked it as much or even more than the first. I can't express enough how much I like this author's writing style. Strong characters, strong messages of faith and relying on God and a storyline that keeps the reader turning pages. I am not ready to say good-by to the sisters in this story. They will live in my memory for a long time.

Not at all what I was expecting but a good read about facing fears and healing from the past. Emotional!
