Classic Collection: The Wizard of Oz Reviews

The Wizard of Oz is a classic story. Almost everyone has at least heard of the story. However, is it actually worth reading? The answer is 100% yes, read the book. You will have so much more love for L. Frank Baum and his literature. (You should also read his other books.) One of the reasons that i absolutely love this book is the fact that the characters are introduced so well. For example, in chapter 2, when we meet the munchkins and the good witch of the north. The good witch of the north talks to Dorothy first and explains the whole witch situation. However, not only does she explain it to Dorothy, she also explains it to us. It is quite brilliant.
Another example of why I love this book, is how it has remained a relevant book after over 100 years. That is absolutely insane. Despite the insanity, it also happens to be a good reason to read the book. Your grandparents probably read this book, and you can too. Classic books are amazing, but this book is so spectacular that it has lasted for over a century. A century, people who were alive when this book was published are dead now. Still not convinced as to why you should read this book? Well, there are many interesting characters that people of any age can get behind. For example, the munchkins. They were enslaved and then freed, for kids thats cool. However, that was referencing slavery in the United States. Consider your mind blown. Now get off of the internet and find a copy of The Wizard of Oz, sit down, and read your heart out. -
In this classic tale, Dorothy and her dog Toto are swept up in a tornado and taken from their home. They awake to find themselves in the magical world called Oz, where monkeys have wings and unlikely creatures can talk. Dorothy is determined to get home, back to her aunt and uncle and their Kansas farm. But to do that, she must find the Wizard of Oz and ask him to take her back home. On her journey, she encounters the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodsman, and the Cowardly Lion, all in search of something that only the Wizard of Oz can give them. The four friends decide to embark on their journeys together, unaware that this journey will change their lives forever.
Opinion:
In this copy of The Wizard of Oz, a graphic novel AND the original story are provided. I really enjoyed reading this book. The artwork in the graphic novel is simple yet really beautiful to look at, and it added another element to the story. Oz is such a beautiful and magical world, and I think that the graphic novel did it justice. I would recommend reading this book at any age – especially for readers who are just beginning to read by themselves, since the majority of the graphic novel is illustrations!

I would give this story a 5 out of 5 stars. This was a great book to read. I have seen the movie many times, but reading the book made it more fun. Since I already knew the storyline before reading the book, I already knew what was happening so it was easier to picture what was happening in the book. I like how it was easy to picture and the story had a great plot. From the many times I have watched and now read this book the storyline never gets boring.
It was very hard to find something I didn't like about this book, but one thing may be the fact that it goes by so quickly. Most of the time I like it when books are fast-paced, but this one goes too fast. I feel like it didn't take that long to read the book because it was such a great story. When I was younger and would watch the movie, I felt like it was really long, but now it feels really fast. Overall this book is one of the greatest I've ever read. -
I had never read this book! Believe it or not! But I read all the chapters with my twin five year old grandboys. And I think it’s a memory we will keep forever… we are celebrating by planting poppy seeds and having some wizard of Oz themed foods. It was a darling story but because of the memories made it for sure gets five stars! The edition we read had 180 pages and I am so proud of them for listening to the whole thing!

The best part is when the good witch of the South told Dorothy that the silver shoes she is wearing has magical powers to make her go back to Kansas because when Dorothy asked the Wizard of Oz to help her go back she was very late in riding the hot air balloon with the Wizard of Oz to find Toto her dog because she doesn't want to leave with out him.

I read this to my five-year-old son and wife, and we all enjoyed it very much. Some parts were very funny, and it is not even comparable to the movie which I love. It was a surprise with every turn. And the Tinmans story is shocking and hilarious.

I read this as part of the Mina Lima collection and fell in love all over again

This adaptation about Dorothy, Toto and all of the other memorable characters from the Wizard of Oz story gives the classic a fun twist. We still go to the Emerald city and are in need of a heart, brain and courage but our characters vary slightly, giving this book a little something different. A book like this gives kids a connection to a story they have already heard before but haven't looked at in this particular way. This gets students interested in exploring the meaning behind the classic stories they know, and how their changing things around may form a different motif for the tale. Looking deeper into the classics opens up a door for kids to realize that things they've been told aren't always written in stone and can be given new meaning by their involvement in them.

A beautiful keepsake of the classic tale, perfect for young readers and older readers who never quite grew up! I especially loved that the bookmark ribbon was yellow, such a special touch.
