This was a feel-good story about a widow who comes home after running and errand to find her house has been broken into. She finds one of the police officers attractive, and he's taken with her as well. She ends up getting a rescue dog and giving him a forever home. Along the way she also finds herself ready to move on from her loss, and builds a slow but steady relationship with her police officer.
While I liked the main characters, I felt that the heroine's career was chosen because it gave her flexibility with her schedule. She is a author who works form home and her work is mentioned at the beginning and end of the book, but in the middle it is not mentioned and she never has any problem spending the day at the last minute doing something else. Apparently she doesn't have deadlines, nor does she ever need to travel to promote her work.
Also, there is a small thread about the young man who broke into her house. While everything is wrapped up (almost too neatly) at the end, I found myself waiting for the other shoe to drop and unable to truly enjoy the developing relationship (which has very few bumps).
All that being said, I really did like to read about adopted pets, as I have adopted my own. Also, the dog is a character throughout the book, not just an early prop. I felt his training went a bit easily, but it started before she got him, so that could explain it. And its very nice that half of the proceeds of the book will be donated to animal rescue/shelter. -
This was unabashedly a 'sweet' story and surprisingly I really enjoyed it. I've made no pretense that I don't really do sweet but this was obviously an exception. I don't know if it was that I just in the right mood for this or the inclusion of a really cute dog and child combination but it truly worked for me.
A nice enjoyable read indeed. -

The author donates royalties to Humane Shelters and there is a rescue dog in this book! I can truly appreciate that :) -
Slow plot, under developed characters and way too much emphasis on sex. I really didn't enjoy it.
