Omg! Why was I laughing like a maniac while reading this book??!!!! It seriously poked fun at Craigslist and got it right all at the same time. I love cats and all of the hilarious fake ads that are in the book. I really loved this book, it was cute and clever.

This one was a 3.5 for me, and I was reading it at just the right time. Several of the classified ads written by cats had me chortling in amusement. Poking a bit of fun at the ubiquitous craigslist and some of its categories and practices, the entire book consists of ads or forum responses from felines across the nation. There are ads in which cats such as Hector are looking for a hook-up, business opportunities, attempts to sell unwanted but much loved items such as toys and socks, information about 12-Step programs, and come-ons, all accompanied by the photograph of a cat or the object in mind as well as the location and an ID number. The ads even include time and date of posting and a place to respond. All in all, 205 pages of catty humor with which to while away a dreary day. After reading this book, I need to remember to close my computer when I'm not using it so that my own cats won't decide to post an ad and try to sell or barter me or some of my possessions while I'm not watching.

“Whiskerslist: the kitty classifieds” by Angie Bailey, gets four paws and a tail up from D’s Bookshelves and Kitty Tales. This book, published by Running Press, is the feline answer to the online classifieds, Craigslist. In it, you can find everything from the Wallinator, who rents himself out as part-time pet in exchange for ham, to an ad for an Advanced Yoga Class for cats. Some of the ads include used toilet paper rolls given away for free, and ads asking for help from cats who have certain hobbies, such as swatting puzzle pieces around the room. Peppered through “Whiskerslist”, are ads from Mittens McMullen, Attorney at Law. He advertises for all kinds of cases, such as disturbance of the peace and invasion of privacy. His slogan is “Extending My Claws…So You Don’t Have To”. Besides ads of all kinds, “Whiskerslist” offers forums where cats can voice their opinions on all subjects related to cats. Of course, the book would not be complete without personal ads, which include cats that are looking for special relationships.
Ms. Bailey is the award-winning writer of the “Catladyland” blog. This blog won the 2011 Pettie Award for the Funniest Pet Blog/Blogger. On Angie’s blog, among other deliriously funny things, you can find Cat Truths, which I am sure, are inspired by Phoebe, Cosmo and Saffy (her smart cats). This writer’s first-hand experience on cat behavior comes shining through in both, “Whiskerslist” and “Catladyland.

I found “Whiskerslist: the kitty classifieds” wildly funny from the first page to the last; and I would not hesitate to suggest this 205-page book of hilarious ads to anyone, especially cat lovers. Next time that you are on your computer, search for whiskerslist.com, if you dare. Don’t be surprised to see an ad with your cat’s picture on it looking for anything from a friend with which to lie in the sun, to a new human with which to replace you.

The definition of a coffee table book according to the Dictionary: it is an oversize, expensive, and usually illustrated book suitable for displaying, as on a coffee table. This term originated in the 1960's, however it is something that is still completely relevant today. I think so many people are guilty of placing books on their coffee table that are an attempt to make them look artsy or well-read...when really they are simply a conversation piece for those visiting.

My family is certainly not ashamed of the books we choose to place on our coffee table, but we are rather quite proud! The definition of a coffee table book sounds like it might be a bad thing (oversized, expensive), but I think it's just the opposite.

In fact, I am really excited to share with you, the latest book that will be added to our coffee table -- whiskerslist: the kitty classifieds by my friend (and author of the Catladyland blog) Angie Bailey.

whiskerslist is real too! Your cats can create their own post on whiskerslist.com! Just make sure they don't put you up for sale!

whiskerslist is a laugh out loud worthy read, that will have you rolling your eyes and thinking, "that is so my cat!"

From listings such as missing sweat sock, new nip dealers to nip interventions, there is a posting for every cat.

My two favorite listings have to be "Hellooo ladies" (pg. 31) and "Polite Jewish South Philly boy looking for likeminded travel partners" (pg. 33).

I highly recommend whiskerslist to all the people looking to add a hysterical and well-done cat comedy book to their coffee table! I for one, am proud to sport whiskerslist on my coffee table and will share it with any cat enthusiasts who visit!
