In this exciting new series, author Susan Fox welcomes you to Caribou Crossing, a small western town made for love and adventure…

For Evan Kincaid, the best thing about his dusty hometown was watching it fade into the distance. Jessica Bly was the only one who didn’t treat him like an outsider, and their friendship ended with one mind-blowing night of young passion. Now they’ve got the lives they planned—Evan in New York, Jess with her beloved horses in Caribou Crossing. But business has brought Evan back to Jess’s Crazy Horse ranch on a mission that could destroy whatever’s left of her trust.

Ten years ago, Jess wanted one perfect night to remember Evan by. What she got was a broken heart and a secret that’s kept them strangers ever since. The boy she knew was sexy and sweet; the man he’s become leaves her breathless. And no matter how much she tells herself that country girl and city boy don’t belong together, in her heart she wants to believe his home has been right here all along…

This book is the second in Susan Fox’s Caribou Crossings series, but readers need not read the first book in order to enjoy this one. It does well as a stand-alone. This is a fairly solid book that might have made it into DIK territory if the author had not resorted to more than one deus ex machina to pull her story through.

Evan Kincaid left his hometown in Canada and never looked back. Well, maybe he looked back a little, but his goal in life was to get out of the small town where he was raised by an abusive father and a drunk and neglectful mother and nothing could stand in the way of that goal. The one bright part of his childhood was Jessica Bly. As a nerd who abhorred rural nature, Evan was prime material for bullying and being ostracized. That he was not could be laid directly at the feet of Jess, his best friend since second grade. That friendship ended when hormones kicked in and Jess and Evan slept together right before he was to leave for college. He panicked and left her in a pretty brutal way and now ten years have passed since that fateful night. Evan is now a big shot investment counselor in New York and his largest client wants him to travel to Canada to check out a riding camp for investment purposes. The fact that this camp is just a few miles from Caribou Crossing makes Evan very antsy and he wants to turn down his client. In the end he does agree to go and is surprised when he arrives to find that Jess is one of the instructors at the camp.

Jessica Bly befriended Evan when she was seven years old. Over the years, her friendship turned into romantic love and she seduces Evan at the lake the summer after their senior year of high school. Evan’s reaction to sleeping with his best friend was to take the car and abandon his best friend at the lake. Then he leaves early for college so he does not have to face Jess. Obviously Jess is both hurt and angry. She also becomes pregnant from their encounter and instead of informing Evan of the pregnancy, she marries another male friend who agrees to raise the child as his own. Jess rationalizes her decision not to tell Evan because he had sworn he never wanted to have children and his lifetime goal was to get out of Caribou Crossing and make something of himself in the big city. She knows that Evan would never get out if he had a child and she thinks that by not telling him she is doing him a favor. Jessica gets on with her life and that includes her dream of opening a riding camp for serious riders (think Horse Whisperer).

Here we have the first of the deus ex machinas for this story. Of all the places in the world that Evan’s primary client would want to send Evan to research an investment opportunity, it had to be his old, very small and very remote hometown, AND of all the people who might be looking for investors, it just happens to be Evan’s old friend Jess Bly. The believability factor here is close to splitting the seams. There are a few other things that stretch credibility (such as a very smart man who grew up in the country not knowing the names of even common plants). These criticisms are mild though and despite these flaws, most of the story works.

I really liked Jess a lot…except for the fact that she kept Evan in the dark about his child. That usually is a deal breaker for me. However, Ms. Fox puts enough qualifications on Jess’s reasoning that I was able to like her in spite of this. She is a good person and happy with her life. Her ex-husband remains her best friend and they are good parents to her daughter. I liked the riding camp setting and it felt as if the author were very knowledgeable about horses. Evan took a little longer for me to warm up to, but I did come to like his character. The riding camp is the instrument for his personal growth and he does grow as a person. Once Jess and Evan are reunited, the friendship they had as children made renewing that friendship believable.

If it were still summer, I would just call this a good beach read. It is a solid story, but not something special to visit again and again. If you are looking for something light, then give this book a try.

A contemporary western romance, set in Canada. What a treat.

Susan Fox has done a fantastic job on writing this book. The relationship between Jess and Evan has spanned over a decade. They were best friends when they were growing up. One night things changed between them. After seeing each other ten years later, will they be able to put the past behind them? This novel is romantic, raw and full of emotions. I could not put this book down once I started reading it.

Small town romance brimming with passion, drama, and heart. Once you meet this pairing you'll have a hard time prying your eyes from their story, it's thoroughly addictive!

Susan Fox has written an intelligent book in Home on The Range. She makes you believe from page one that she knows what she's talking about when it comes to horses, horse people, and non[-horse people. Her made-up town of Caribou Crossing and the Crazy Horse Ranch (spa) is somewhere you'll want to go on your next vacation.

Evan Kincaid is a non-horse person who left Caribou Crossing as soon as he grew into his feet. He wanted no part of living in a "hick" town...even though leaving meant he had to leave someone he cared deeply for behind. Even though that someone had a cookie in the cookie jar (unbeknownst to him, due to an oops moment with a condom gone bad).

Jessica Bly was the woman with the cookie in the jar. But she happened to love Hicksville, so when she discovered she was with cookie, she kept it to herself. Evan never expressed any desire to have kids... or cookies.

Fast forward fifteen years and Evan has built himself a successful life in New York. But when he's thrown back into the world he thought he'd left forever, life in the city doesn't seem so perfect anymore. Seems Jessica still owns a piece of his heart.

Long story short, Home on The Range is a pleasant read. The characters are fun, the story real, albeit a bit sappy, but for me, it's the town of Caribou Crossing and the Crazy Horse Ranch (spa) that make this book. Thanks, Susan, now I want to own horses again.

I am usually not much of a romance reader but I decided to give it a whirl and I am so glad I did.

I really enjoyed getting to know the characters and loved that the author Susan Fox took the time to develop such in depth personalities.

Jessica Bly loves and respects horses and her dream is to open a special resort that lets the participants bond with the horses and get involved in their every day care but she needs financial backing to realise her dream.

Evan Kincaid could not wait to leave his one horse hometown and escape to New York. Now he must go home and face his first love and his past all the while assessing Jess's Ranch dream and deciding if it is a safe business investment for his client.

A great relaxing read, you won't be disappointed

Susan Fox is a classic! Her writing is great! She has the ability to keep you interested.

Home on the range is her first novel in the Caribou Crossing Series.

Two people meet fall in live as friends and then are separated and love try's to find them again. They are two country kids, one wants to become big and successful and one wants to have a horse resort. They meet later in life and realize the love is there.

A great story to read. Susan fox is a great author! You won't be disappointed if you get one of her books.

A Caribou Crossing Romance is a great summer read. Even though life may change, love however does not in this novel. The characters of Jessie and Evan are so opposite, yet the love they have for each other never waines. With secrets and hidden desires these two characters finally acknowledge their past, but will it give them a future? There is a sequel to watch for.

I receved this complementary book from a Good Reads giveaway for my review.

A cute little story, but I'm not going to lie…all of the deceptions made me uncomfortable. I thought Evan was annoying and bitter and the fact that he wasn't willing to accept and move on from any part of his past made me uncomfortable.

  • Lisa

On the lines of a 3- or 2+. There were some really good points to this book, but it was also boring and repetitive at times as well as too predictable. I liked the character's emotional growth, the value of family, love, country living. It just wasn't written in the most engaging of ways.

  • Michelle

Much better than the first book in the series. It was an enjoyable light read.

  • Suzana Signorini

Eu amei esse livro! Jess e Evan tem uma historia no passado, e isso torna tudo entre eles tão vívido e bonito. Dou gloriosas 5 estrelas!

  • Catherine McLean

I've read a lot of books and quit reading this paperback at page 19 because the premise was a trope and way too predictable. The typeface used was too small and very hard to read.
