Jase Kayrs was the fun brother. The warm, charming, easy-going brother of the vampire leaders. Until he was taken and tortured by demons with their evil mind tricks for nearly five years. Upon his return, he’s dark, violent, and not the man they all thought they knew. Not the man he once was. He’s haunted that the only reason the demons would have let him live was to use him as a weapon against his family—but he can’t figure out when or how he’ll explode. Plus, once again the demons are after Jase with a vengeance…or rather, a female demon he rejected is out to destroy him.
Then the king asks Jase for a favor… a big one. To mate with one of their allies in order to save her. She’s everything that’s good and light in the world… while he’s at home with darkness. Yet he agrees… knowing mating may be the only chance to save them both.

“Who are these people?” Damn it. She licked snow off her lips. “The protesters are a group called Citizens Revolting Against Pagurus.” “CRAP?” he barked out. “You have a group called CRAP protesting in Dublin?”-Jase and Brenna
Omg I am in love with this series, and I'm in love with every single Kayrs brother (especially Talen and Jase!!!) I have devoured every book in this series without stopping for sleep. I just can't seem to put them down! This is Jase and Brenna's Story, and it doesn't disappoint! This book Picks up a few years after Jase was brought home from being held and tortured by the Demons. He is in a very bad place eaten up with anger and driven only by his need for revenge! Brenna is dying from being poisoned 10 years ago by a crazy witch that kidnapped her, Her only chance to live is to mate a powerful vampire. Jase agrees to mating with Brenna not only to save her, but so he can regain his powers lost since his torture and gain her powers to help aid him in destroying all demons! He doesn't have to force the mating mark to show up though like he planned because while kissing Brenna it appears proving they are fated to be mates, but he doesn't want love or for her to try to fix him just revenge!
“You two okay with that?” Brenna’s mind spun. They expected her to sit quietly during such a discussion? She lifted her chin. “My lady parts will be available for said mating during the next two weeks.” Jase barked out a laugh. “As will, ah, my gentlemanly parts.” Heat climbed into Brenna’s face. “I believe we have an agreement.” “Wait. You should demand multiple orgasms,” Jase said. Brenna coughed. “Excellent point. I so demand.” -Kane, Brenna, and Jase
“I thought that maybe after last night, you’d—” “What? Fall in love and be cured? Be able to have a normal life so all of you could relax and stop feeling so fucking guilty?”-Conn and Jase
Jase was so damn sexy Omg! So damaged and angry you can't help but wanna save him. As he lets Brenna in his heart and starts to slowly heal you see pieces of the old Jase playful, fun, lighthearted, but still strong, a fighter, and a survivor. You just can't help falling in love with Jase's character he has so much charm. Brenna God I loved Brenna! She is hands down my favorite heroine in the series(I have a feeling when Janie's book comes out she will give Brenna a run for her money!) Brenna is Smart, Funny, Sassy, Brave, Classy, and loyal everything you want in a heroine.
“Vampires aren’t very good with the feelings stuff. If it’s something they can’t fight or kill, then it just pisses them off.” Brenna smiled. “Look at me. I’ve been a vampire mate for less than a day, and I’m full of wisdom.”-Brenna
“I’ll accept begging or whimpering from you, darlin’. But your time for commanding has passed.” With a sharp tug on her nipple, his hand slid down and pressed on her clit. “Oh God,” she moaned. “Praying will do.” -Jase and Brenna
I loved Jase and Brenna together. So much heat and passion my kindle was burning my hands. Brenna was so sweet and Jase so damaged it was touching the way Brenna slowly healed Jase. The way he craved her gentleness. He lowered his walls for her and she brought happiness and laughter back to his life. Jase wanted to change he wanted to be better for Brenna. And it was beautiful! We get to see more of our favorite couples from past books, Someone very important gets kidnapped, Plots thicken and everything is leading up to the Kalin, Zane and Janie showdown! Dayum this book had it all. If you have not read this book or this whole series for that matter you should. One of the best I have ever read!
“You don’t want me?” His eyebrow rose. “Of course I want you.” She rolled her eyes. The man could probably scent her arousal. “But, well, I want more.” There. She’d said it. “So do I,” he said softly, gripping her chin with his thumb and forefinger. Her heart slammed against her ribs. Her childhood crush was actually coming true. “You do?” “Sure.” He kissed her again. “Give me a chance. I could make you happy.” “I want love.” Sometimes a girl just had to spell things out for a vampire. He nodded. “I know. So do I. All I can promise is that I’m open to anything and everything we could make. I have strong feelings for you, Brenna, trust me.”-Jase and Brenna

We'll both be used, sweetheart... But we'll get what we want.
Jase Kayrs: The younger Kayrs brother used to be a funny sweet guy until the Demons took him prisoner and he had suffered for almost 5 years in their hands. He almost mated the evil Willa, the sister to Suri the leader of the demons. Glancing at a beautiful painting on the wall saved him from this stupid decision and Jase -without realizing it- had just connected his life with the life of Brenna.
Brenna Dunne: Moira’ younger sister is an anomaly as the eighth sister of a seventh sister. She is not supposed to exist. Usually the sisters can only be seven and the seventh one is the most powerful. Moira is the most powerful witch and Brenna can cause only destruction.
The reaction of Jase about this information is simple: “That’s all just so damn stupid.”
Jase is suffering. He is poisoned in his head. Although now he looks fine and any physical abused that he has endured by the demons has now disappeared, he is not the same carefree person. He needs revenge and Brenna will help him. When they mate, he will also get her powers and he will be stronger. Demons have no chance when he is ready to fight them.
Brenna is suffering. She is poisoned from the inside with planekite, a substance which is dangerous only to witches. When she mates Jase, she may be able to fight it and she may be able to live.
The acceptance of Jase about this information is straightforward: “I’m your cure.”
Above all these facts, a comet is approaching Earth and there is a strange prophecy that connects the eighth sister of a seventh sister with a number of big events that are about to happen.
Brenna is facing four threats:
1. Half of the witches want to mate her and half of the witches want to murder her.
2. The planekite keeps poisoning her.
3. The Kurjans want to get her to fulfill the dark prophecy
4. The demons i.e. mainly Willa what to have her for revenge.
Jase does not have an easy job protecting her because he mainly has two problems of his own:
1. His brain dysfunction which has caused him to see only blood and revenge.
2. His inability to love. And there is no way Brenna is going to trust him completely, unless he loves her completely.
Jase and Brenna are perfect together. They have both endured so much. They will save each other and they will fall in love. And of course mating one of the Kayrs brothers is always fun to watch.
But I think the person who stole the show in this book is Janie’s younger brother (Talen’s son), Garrett.
I just loved the dialogues between Garrett and Kalin (Kurjan’s leader):
Kalin: “First, I figure out what the big deal is with her powers (Janie), then I use them. Subsequently, we have many, many sons with power . . .”
Garrett : “And you rule the world?” Was this a comic book, or what? “You know that’s crazy, right?”… “Isn’t this the part where you let loose with your evil laugh?” -
5 - ”Kermit the Kurjan.” Stars!
Although this book focuses on the budding relationship between Brenna and Jase, the hands-down, standout character for me is Garrett Kayrs, teenage son of Talyn and Cara. After being abducted and held by the Kurgans, his one-liners and witty comebacks when conversing with their leader Kalin were absolutely hilarious. I do hope that Rebecca gives him his own book at some point, as I have loved his progression from child to boy to man, as much as I have enjoyed witnessing Janie grow up through everybody else’s stories. Rebecca has kept her relevant throughout the series, which you would expect seeing as everything that has come to pass is because of a prophecy announcing that she will change the world.... Enough of that for now, Janie and her story are due in December 2014, and I cannot wait!
Jase has survived 5 years imprisonment and torture from the Demons, now free physically, he is still mentally broken, struggling with anger and rage, and fed up of being treated like he has ‘breasts’ by his brothers. Brenna is sick, poisoned many years ago, her body is finally succumbing.... the only hope of a cure, to mate with a Vampire.
”I’m not leaving you to fight alone” ... “You’ve done enough of that. We’re in this together.”
She ran her hand along the side of his face, her heart breaking when he turned into her palm. As if a gentle touch was too much for him to resist. Tears pricked the back of her eyes. “I won’t hurt you,” she whispered from somewhere deeper than the moment....
“Don’t let me hurt you.” The gentle plea matched his devastated tone.
This book, is sexy, hot, funny and heartbreaking. I loved Jase, I knew his book would be the one to make me cry, and it did, but I also laughed a lot as well. The Kayrs brothers look after their own, even if it means beating the crap out of each other, until you are so battered, broken and bloody that you can’t fight no more!
Hot male. Chilled tiles. Throbbing cock.
Brenna - “There is something I’d like to try” ...
Jase – “What’s that?”
Brenna – “I’ve wondered, how much of you I can take in my mouth.” ...
Forever had teeth, and when it was right, it sank in.
And the above pretty much sums up this series for me! -
I suspected going into this read that Jase’s story was going to be a hard emotional battle. He spent years as a captive of demons, tortured daily and at one point during that time wanted to end it all. No one can come out of that situation without being damaged, even if they’re a vampire and a member of the royal family. I was anxious to see how this author would heal him without getting into clichés. I was extremely pleased with the outcome.
Brenna Dunne is a witch that has been poisoned and is slowly dying. The only hope she has is to mate with a vampire. Jase desires her talents and as her mate he would be able to absorb them and use them in his quest for revenge against the demons. There was no push and pull here as they quickly agree to the mating. That in itself was unusual because most of these heroines are against the mating and all it entails.
Healing did not come quickly to either of these characters. It was a slow progression that felt organic and real. Well, as real as one can get in the world of vampires, witches, demons and shifters. As the story unfolds and both Jase and Brenna face not only their own struggles but that as a newly mated couple, the war continues between the Kurjans and the Realm.
This is a fast paced, high intensity read. Plenty of all the alpha goodness this author is known to provide as well as strong heroines that know how to stand up to all that testosterone. With the burden of Jase’s past and Brenna’s future as a catalyst to the plot it was a pleasant surprise to find humor interspersed. That in itself helped to show some of the changes taking place within Jase. I loved every minute of it.
Prior to the epilogue we are given a quick look into each of the previous couple’s lives and if you’ve read their stories you will experience the feels all over again. While I believe most of the previous books could be read as a standalone, this one I would definitely recommend you reading after Provoked since it highlights Jase’s captivity.

“I’m not leaving you to fight alone ... You’ve done enough of that. We’re in this together.”
5 sensational stars!
OMG, this book is a wild ride, and I absolutely LOVED IT!!! Absolutely packed full of action and PNR awesomeness, Jase and Brenna’s story is heartbreaking but beautiful, and I’m so, so happy they both finally got their HEA.
After five years of being held and tortured by demons, Jase is no longer the fun-loving vampire that he was. The youngest of the Kayrs brothers is back with his family but is haunted by all that he endured and by the loss of his powers, and he is terrified that he is a ticking time bomb that will ultimately destroy his family.
Brenna Dunne is a witch, and the younger sister of Moira (mate of Con). Her unique birth made her a supernatural anomaly and an upcoming celestial event threatens to endow her with more power than anyone could ever have imagined. She has been through her own turmoil and is currently powerless and slowly dying due to being poisoned a decade ago. Her only hope to survive lies in a mating with a powerful vampire who can possibly save her life and help her survive what is to come.
Jase and Brenna have known each other for years, and already have a bit of a connection which makes the whole situation much easier, and Jase proposes the mating with the hope that their joining will return his powers to him – and possibly give him her powers as well - leaving him strong and able to get his vengeance on the demon nation. So, with no time to waste and everything to gain, they willingly enter into their mating contract.“My lady parts will be available for said mating during the next two weeks.”
Jase barked out a laugh “As will, ah, my gentlemanly parts.”
Heat climbed into Brenna's face. “I believe we have an agreement.”
“Wait. You should demand multiple orgasms”" Jase said.
Brenna coughed. “Excellent point. I so demand.”
OMG, the chemistry between these two is sensational, and they soon realise that they were fated to be together, and holy hell, it’s hot. Jase is all anger and passion, and the steamy time is incredibly intense but more than that, things between them are easy and natural, and they care deeply for each other, so they soon agree to give their relationship a true chance.“Ah, baby. Our bed won't be properly christened until you scream my name in it at least three times.” He leaned down and captured her mouth, his tongue sweeping inside.
She broke away. “Three times? Not sure you have that in you, vampire.”
He laughed, the sound freer than it had sounded since they'd mated. “That sounds like a challenge.”
I absolutely LOVE these two together! Jase is so incredibly broken by all that he has been through and as much as he wants to be his old self, he is too driven by his rage, and his anger over his lack of power to climb out of his broodiness, and Brenna’s lightness is a great contrast to that. She doesn’t cower to his mood, instead standing up to him and being the feisty bombshell that she is. They have fun together, she makes him smile again, and their insane chemistry continues to sizzle as they take any and all opportunities for some sexy time. And through it all their emotional connection continues to develop as Jase starts to heal and Brenna works her way through his barriers. Their tender moments together were beautiful to read.
But when Jase is given the opportunity to finally take out his revenge, he will have to choose between his return to the man he once was and the dark, violent part of him that still longs for vengeance.
OMG, it’s all happening in this book! Jase’s need for vengeance is a huge driver for his actions throughout the story. And at the same time it seems everybody in the supernatural world is out to stop Brenna from gaining her powers, putting her in constant danger, Virus 27 is still threatening the females of the population and the Kurgens and the demons are both ramping up the war with kidnappings, torture and multiple attacks all taking place. It’s intense and exciting, and the action is sensational – and there’s so much of it! I was gripping my kindle tightly in my hands, heart pounding while the big scenes all played out like an action movie in my head. And add in the supernatural powers and it becomes even better!
The rest of the family all play a big part with the boys (and some of the girls) all involved in the big battle scenes, and all playing a part in Jase’s healing, and the moments with the brotherly bonding – both emotional and hilarious – were gorgeous. We get to see a lot of Garrett, and he is shaping up to be quite the awesome character! And there are some fantastic developments with the Janie/Zane situation - I am ridiculously excited for their book!
The story builds to its exciting conclusion, and I was thrilled with the way it all played out. And it all finishes with an epilogue featuring a check in with each of the couples so far and a gorgeously happy ending for two characters that so desperately deserve it.“I love you with everything I am, with everything I’ll ever be, and with every hope I could ever dream.”
Rebecca Zanetti gave me everything I wanted from this book, I’m still floating on the high!
I loved it- 5 huge stars.

Shadowed is book #6 of the Dark Protector series by Rebecca Zanetti and I have to admit this is one of my favorites so far. Jase Kayrs is the youngest of the Kayrs brothers and was the fun loving, footloose fancy free out of them all, until he was captured by the Demons and held captive for 5 long tortuous years. Once rescued Jase was never the same. He had so much pent up anger and vengeance and fell into a very dark place wanting one thing and one thing only REVENGE. The three on his personal hit list were Willa, Malco and Suri.
When his brother Dage Kayrs (The King) asked a favor of him to mate Brenna Dunne in hopes of reversing a poison she ingested 10 years prior and is slowly killing her. They’ve not been able to find a cure or a way to stop the poison from taking over. She’s lost her powers and continues to grow weaker as time passes.
Jase agrees to the mating, but strictly for survival. Survival for Brenna is hope that the mating will reverse and remove the poison from her system allowing her to live and regain her powers and for Jase to acquire his mate’s powers and have his returned so he can seek vengeance on the Demons who held him captive and tortured him for 5 years. These things never go as planned. You see Brenna has always had a crush on Jase and would fantasize about him.
All our favorite Kayrs brothers and their mates are in this story. There is plenty of action, kidnappings, rescues and sweet revenge. Brenna harness the Solstice/Comet’s power and truly accomplishes a miracle for Janie. Can’t tell you what happens but it’s amazing, and at the same time Jase recovers his powers in a time of crisis and saves Brenna.
My favorite quote “I love you with everything I am, with everything I’ll ever be, and with every hope I could ever dream.” Towards the end of the book when all the Kayrs brothers and their mates are preparing for a wedding Rebecca gives you a glimpse of each and every one of them having their playful moments and discussions. I loved it. It just felt so real.
I’m still curious to see how the Janie, Kalin and Zane threesome will play. My hope is she’ll end up with Zane but for some reason my heart feels for Kalin and don’t ask me why. I guess he’s troubled and deep down inside there is something good. We’ll see.
This book is a must read and you won’t be disappointed. If you haven’t read the series I strongly suggest reading it before this book releases in October 2013. Rebecca you did it again and I give Shadowed 5*, I’d give it 10* if I could. Kudos -

I was very excited to read Shadowed, Jase Kayrs story. He was held and tortured by demons for five years, he is the damaged and angry brother. I couldn't wait to get inside his head and see him find his happily ever after. What an amazing story it turned out to be!
The war between the supernaturals is accelerating. In the hopes to help align the vampires with the witches, the king of the vampires and Jase's brother agrees to an arranged marriage between Jase and Brenna Dunne. Brenna is suffering from a poisoning and her only hope of survival is mating with a powerful being that can counter act the poison.
Jase sees this as an opportunity to gain enough power to enact his plan for revenge against the demons while Brenna sees this as a shot of saving the man of her dreams as well as a chance at her own survival.
There is a prophecy about a witch born on the solstice and the power she will gain from a comet, it ends up that Brenna is the prophesied witch. Some want to own Brenna for this power, some want to destroy her before she can gain the power, Jace decides for her protection he must move her to the vampire strong hold. A rogue group of depraved vampires called the Kurgans kidnap Jase's nephew, a bounty is placed on Jase's and Brenna's heads by the demons, a fraction of witches called Citizen Revolting Against Pagurus (CRAP, lol) wants Brenna dead before the solstice, the cards are really stacked against them.
It was amazing to see how the Kayrs family rallied around Jase and Brenna. The relationship between the brothers is fabulous to watch. The compassion and acceptance of their spouses was amazing and the complete devotion to each of the family members was heart melting.
The story was packed with action, explosive and steamy romance, plenty of humor, heart touching moments as well as nail biting suspense...add in the paranormal aspect and Rebecca Zanetti created a perfectly superb dark fantasy and a must read.

An action packed engaging read.
I loved the badass witches and alpha heroine. Their familial connection was amazing. The chase and thrill was also good. 1 extra star for hero withstanding willa’s offer to mate amid all the pain and torture. He and heroine was made for each other.

Summary
Brenna, a witch has been suffering from a poison she consumed and has slowly been killing her. Without the cure or a mate, she will die and she only has weeks left. Brenna knows that she is weakening and only one man can save her, Jase Kayrs. Jase was held captive and tortured by the demons for five long years, and he still is recovering. He was once easy-going and jovial, but not is volatile and dangerous. Jase gives Brenna an offer, mate with him and have the chance to live, or she will die. Brenna knows that she doesn’t have a choice but to mate with Jase, a dangerous vampire, but a man she knows that is out for revenge and will do anything to destroy the demons. Soon Brenna and Jase will have to start working together to defeat what is to come…
The Hero
Jase Karys has changed since he was captured and tortured. He is quite powerful, intense, and full of rage and has vows to get revenge on the demon nation, no matter the cost. Jase is the youngest of the Kayrs Family, a “royal” family of the vampire nation. His brother is King, but Jase who was one the most easy-going and carefree of the brothers is not the same man anymore. Jase has his own demons to destroy and he must gain certain gifts through mating Brenna to get what he needs most. Jase is a hero that is one of the strongest of his family because of what he endured. Jase is full of rage and needs to get his revenge, but what was most admirable about Jase was how he didn’t let the demons break him. He may be damaged but is still a fighter and stronger than ever…and what an alpha male he is.
The Heroine
Brenna, is a powerful witch, or was until she was poisoned and she lost her abilities. She has known for quite some time, that she will be dying soon, and she knows that even if she mates with Jase, it may be too late for her. Brenna sees life in a very realistic way, she sees the facts and how life really is, not how she would want it to be. Brenna despite her loss of powers, is still a fighter, and boy can this woman kick ass (I would dearly love to fight like her), she is just as strong in fighting for those she cares about. I loved her dedication to Jase and aiding him. Brenna is a heroine that will charm and win you over. Practical to the core, talented in the martial arts, and emotionally sound.
Plot and Story Line
Shadowed is a story I knew was going to be dang good and boy was I right about this book!! Whew, did I love just about everything about it. Another fabulous addition to the series that Zanetti has created for us here. Shadowed follows the previous book a little bit after, some time has gone by. Jase, has been rescued and been healing since he got back. But he is full of anger and uncontrolled rage. We see how his time with the demons has affected him. In some ways the easy-going brother is gone, and a more powerful vampire has taken his place. A vampire that does what needs to be done, no matter what. Even if that means mating with a woman he doesn’t love. It seems like just about everyone is against their mating, including some of her coven members. Even though it seems like a practical arrangement, it doesn’t turn out that way. And it seems that these two are destined for more. Love the way this author weaved this story and told a tale of redemption and the healing power of love. What made the most impact on me was the change in their relationship despite the chaos surrounding them. It’s a ongoing and steady change, and you slowly see it changing from something practical to a very emotional and powerful bond these two start to build with each other.
The Cover
I actually really enjoy this cover, I love this male model…isn’t he delicious?? I love the mix of colors we have here as well. A bit different from the earlier covers.
Overall View
Shadowed is a stimulating and thrilling ride of passion, edgy suspense, and paranormal adventure…bound to know your socks off!! STUNNING!! -
After being tortured for five years at the hands of the demons, Jase Kayrs is a changed man. What was once a happy, lighthearted soul is replaced with anger and vengeance. Five years after his rescue, he’s asked by the king to mate with Brenna Dunne to help save her from a poison that’s been slowly killing her for the past 10 years. Jase agrees to the mating in order to have access to her powers and the possibility of rekindling his own powers which have been dormant since his torture. Will the mating save them or destroy what’s left?
With the war escalating, demons, witches, and Kurjans attacking from all sides and an unexpected, yet dangerous ally, the Kayrs brothers can’t seem to catch a break. Brenna has her own problems to deal with: dying, losing the ability to form magic, being hunted by all factions, and facing a loveless mating, just to name a few. Brenna always thought she was a freak because she was born as an eighth sister to a seventh sister since there has never been a recorded event of that in all of the history of witches. There’s a lot of speculation around Brenna’s birth that has factions either trying to mate her to balance the immeasurable powers she is prophesized to receive on the winter solstice and another faction, including the Citizens Revolting Against Pagurus (CRAP, hehe), that want Brenna dead. It seems business as usual for the Kayrs.
I have had my fingers crossed for a Jase/Brenna mating ever since Brenna was introduced in Conn’s book! I knew she would be perfect for Jase and I’m glad Rebecca did as well! I hated seeing how Jase’s character changed since his torture. His laughter and easy smile killed by those damn demons. Brenna’s loving and nurturing nature really paired well with Jase’s hard edges. It wasn’t an easy road to journey and there were many times I didn’t think Jase could pull up from the self-destructive blaze of glory he’d resigned himself to.
My favorite part of the book was seeing all the brothers interacting together. When there are so many characters in a book, it’s hard for everyone to have face time. I’m sure glad the Kayrs brothers did, even though they were conversing in fisticuffs the majority of the time.
This book is the most action-packed of the series. There is so much going on, as soon as something else seems tied up, something else happens and the domino effect continues. There’s also lots of explosions, rescue attempts, smokin’ hot chemistry between Jase and Brenna, many fights between brothers, aFifty Shades reference that had me laughing out loud and a hilarious drunken barroom brawl with a couple of shifters.
Zane, Zane, Zane. We finally get to see him in the real world and not just in Janie’s dreams. I totally love him but he is starting to piss me off. He needs to show up, throw Janie over his shoulder and ride off into the sunset; perhaps in the next book? There are many surprises in the story and a scene that really “killed” me to read. I laughed, I cried, I was on the edge of my seat with anxiety and anticipation.
Rebecca is a great author and creates characters with such depth and emotion. Her books are always an auto buy for me because she is masterful in creating these magical worlds to get lost in. I recommend ANY Rebecca Zanetti book to readers who enjoy the same.

4 2/3 "Fighting Deamons" Stars!
I loved this one! Jase had quite a battle with himself on his hands and Brenna was a perfect mate to help him through. She had just enough spicy to go with her sweet. She did not take his crap, but she was nowhere near *itchy. Plus Brenna was a real player in the story, not just Jase's mate. Always a bonus when the female has a real part. And, I do like "a marriage of convenience" story.
I kind of wanted to rate this one 5 stars, but that would have been all emotion. Jase had been through so much and he came so far. But there were just a couple things missing for me to go to 5 stars. I really did like it a lot though. I am so looking forward to the final book! Happy reading!! -

A truly impressive Adult Paranormal/Suspense Romance.
I feasted on this series!!
The world build, the characters, everything about this series is delicious and addicting.
I can not stress just how much I love this series.
I know my reviews on these are short, but that's because I read them one after the other and couldn't be bothered to stop for anything or anyone. They are just that consuming!
This one I probably should give a solid 5, but there were a few things (although minor) that keep me from doing that.
The 2 mc's for this one is Jase & Brenna.
They will break your heart and make you laugh.
Their beginning is more like a business deal that quickly turns into passion and romance.
I loved both characters. So now I have a new favorite in this series.
The suspense & action is compelling.
Great world build and fantastic characters.
I highly recommend these.
I know I can't get enough and don't want to see this series come to end.

After being held and tortured by demons for five years, Jase Kayrs is not the same carefree vampire he once was. Driven by revenge, Jase's only thoughts is to kill every demon out there. Problem is his close knit family wants to fix him and he has plans of his own.
Brenna, a witch, who unfortunately has been tainted with a poison is dying. It couldn't possibly get worse, but it does as she has half of the witches trying to mate her because of a prophecy and the other witches trying to kill her off. When Jase comes to her wanting to mate to gain her power, she sees a possible solution, perhaps he could heal her.
Jase and Brenna have no illusions that this mating is not for love or a happily ever after. Jase is a walking time bomb and Brenna has six months to live at best, if the mating takes she may be able to live. Trouble is brewing and as the mating takes place, the demons want Jase back and will stop at nothing to get him, even taking his mate.

This story was sweet and dark at the same time. It was seeing a hero after 5 years of torture trying to pick up his pieces together. It was seeing a sweet heroine trying to save him from his destructive self, it was seeing them falling in love. It was a nice story and the end was so exciting that I am not even going to read the next novella and will go directly to the last book of the series. I can't wait to discover who Zane really is.
One thing I don't like about this book and the last novella is the fact that she gets the characters ages always right but the time-line all wrong. Saying 10 years has passed when in reality it was 20 or sometimes 15. So, I know it is silly but I like the numbers right hehehe -
Love this series.

Thank you Rebecca Zanetti! I have been waiting oh so patiently (anyone believe that?) For Jase's story and was so excited to get my review copy from Netgalley. Often when we read a much anticipated story we get an anticlimactic feeling and need to read it a second or even third time to really appreciate it. Let me tell you all, that was SO not the case! I loved every heart stopping minute of this fabulous book.
For those of you who have not yet read Zanetti's Dark Protectors Series, I suggest you check it out.
The Kayrs Family are the leaders of the Vampire world. The strongest, the most powerful, the ones who defend against the darkness. Each brother has found his mate, except Jase. Jase, arguably the most powerful of the brothers, had been captured and tortured by the Demons for five long years. The family, finally got him out but it's been another five years and Jase's powers are still wonky and his emotional state is constantly in question. He has a chance to redeem those powers if he mates to Brenna, an 8 daughter of a 7th daughter (or as Ms Zanetti puts it the 8th sister of a 7th sister). With revenge on the brain Jase accepts the terms for the mating (adding just a few of his own) and discovers that there is so much more to this mating than he ever dreamed.
Brenna was an ass-kicking, name-taking witch (I loved that description so much I had to steal BORROW it) until she was forced to consume a poison that has been slowly killing her. Right about the time Jase had initially been taken captive.. hmmmmm.. anyway, now it's ten years later and there is no cure. Brenna is dying and her only chance at life is to mate, preferably with a powerful Vampire (since once mated the Vamps, share their powers with their mates) with the hope of his blood changing hers. That would be enough stress for any witch, but Brenna has an interesting life. While slowly dying, she also gets regular marriage proposals and death threats. One faction believes her birth (accompanied by a power changing comet) will bring power to the witches and save the world and the other faction.. well not so much. And now her family is pushing this mating with a Kayrs.. the one man she has had a secret crush on for centuries.
This book was fabulous!! Not only did Brenna and Jase have to deal with each other and the hope that they could provide what the other needed (life for Brenna, The return of Jase's powers so he could enact his revenge) they had to deal with a crazy leader of "Brenna's Warriors" who wants to marry Brenna (another witch who believes any mating will save her.. who cares if the poison in her blood is dangerous to ALL witches) and the C.R.A.P (yep it's called crap) organization that wants her dead at all costs BEFORE the winter solstice, which of course is when the comet will return.
That's the basics.. BUT wait there's more! Jase's family is still treating him with kid gloves and Jase resents it, his family wants Jase back.. the old Jase. The Kurjans (the bad vamps) have upped their game and are finding new ways to take Janie (the adopted daughter of Talen Kayrs) the prophet that the entire war is based on. The Demons want Jase back.. and now there is a serious bounty on Brenna's head. Some say dead or alive. Some say alive before the solstice dead after and some, say just bring me her head..
With all this going on one would imagine Zanitti dropping a few balls but nope like the master juggler she is, the storylines just keep flying! One great subplot after another! Excitement, danger, family dissension, fear and most of all a couple discovering that there is so much more to them, than revenge and well saving her life!
Honestly, I wish this book was another 100 pages! Why? Because I wanted MORE!! Initially I had been worried that this would be the last of the Dark Protectors series but nope!! Ms Zanetti has much more in store for us! As always she kept me on the edge of my seat and left me wanting MORE!! Great job!!

This one is OUT TODAY! Such a great book!
What a RIDE! I've read the novella that comes before this one, Twisted. It's about the shifter element in Ms. Zanetti's world and Jase was in it. I was immediately intrigued by him and I wanted to know more. Well, this book gives us more Jase and I loved it.
Brenna was poisoned years ago and her time is running out. The only way to save her is by mating with someone strong, and Jase is about as strong of a vampire as they come. She's had a crush on him for years and he's been interested in her, too. Well, he was before he was tortured for years by the Demons. Now there's a group to hate and to want something hideous to happen to and I surely did.
Poor Jase, he's just existing to exact revenge on the Demons and in a mating the couple share their gifts and strengths. He wants Brenna's witchy ways and he wants her to have his strength to fight off the poison. There's also this whole prophecy thing surrounding Brenna. She's the eighth daughter of a seventh sister and a comet is coming...and maybe the world will end...and maybe not. Due to the prophecy, several factions are trying to either protect her, take her out...or mate with her. She really needs Jase to keep her safe.
This is book six in the Dark Warrior Series and many of the characters from earlier books walk through these pages and it's great to see them. Some threads are tied up here and some are left for future books. I stayed up past midnight reading this one. Just couldn't put it down!
Yes, this one is most definitely a
FIVE BOOKMARK read.
This is a paranormal world that one truly wants to dive right into.

I do not get the blurb. It sets up the story incorrectly. How can a blurb get written that is factually incorrect? So strange...
Anyway, I enjoyed the story. Jase was tortured. Brenna was so sweet and good, I felt like I should be listening to a Disney soundtrack.
The story was fast moving and interesting. The CRAP group was a funny plotline. Well the name was funny. And listening to this book, every time the narrator said CRAP, I giggled.
The demoness storyline was strange. Here is the deal...if I meet a demoness that claims to have kissed and fucked my mate (who HATES demons), I would probably ask him about it. I would want to know if he had hooked up with the skanky bitch. But I am not a disney character like Brenna...
Overall, I felt this was one of the stronger books in the series. -
Jase & Brenna's Story:
I was expecting a lot of angst in this one since Jase has had the worst experience with their enemies being tortured for years by the Demons. I braced myself for alot of pushing away from him but it wasn't as bad as I expected. I actually really liked these two together and Jase was very protective right from the start.
This is not a standalone book. This has an ongoing story line that would be confusing if you started with this book. It's a great series so I highly recommend it!
Series Review: Fun, fast paced PNR series. Great storyline, characters and suspense. Insta-love, mates for life, possessive Alphas and grotesque evil foes. There are Vampires, Shifters, witches, Demons and more. This is a continued storyline focusing on a different couple per book. -

Where the Night Kind Roam
Fans of this series have been awaiting this installment of The Dark Protectors Series; Jase has long been a favorite in this series. When he was taken and tortured by the Demons I think a little of all of us broke a bit for him. So I think if Zanetti had screwed this up, I think there would be a lot of disappointed fans out there. Good thing she did not screw this up! This was an action packed roller coaster ride of a novel. We are taken through highs and lows as the danger escalates and Jase is taken on an emotional journey that can change everything.
Shadowed by Rebecca Zanetti is emotional, passionate and an amazingly exciting tale that will have you on the edge of your seat from the beginning to the end of this book. Jase is our tortured hero; he endeared five years of torture at the demons hands, slowly driving him mad. In the five years that he has been home he has been barely living, only his thirst of revenge has been keeping him going. During his captivity, when he was at his lowest he saw something that saved his sanity, a painting. A painting by Brenna, and it reminded him of something good that had been in his life, that painting probably saved his life. Brenna has been slowly dying for the past ten years; a disease has been eating away at her body. With the solstice approaching it is prophesied that she will be at her most powerful, powerful enough to even obliterate the planet. There is little hope that Brenna will make it to the solstice without taking a strong mate. Enter Jase, Jase so graciously offers himself up as a mate to Brenna after all she saved his life at his most desperate of times. Together Jase and Brenna can be stronger; at least that’s the theory. With the solstice approaching more than one faction want Brenna and the power she will harness. On top of the threat to Brenna the demons want Jase back and he is determined to take his vengeance on all of them even at the cost of his mating to Brenna. When Garrett is taken in exchange for Brenna tensions run high and action explodes everywhere. The war is escalating and every faction is out for blood and will do anything to get their hands on both Brenna and Janie. Jase and the other Kayrs will do everything in their considerable power to make sure that does not happen.
Jase takes us on an emotional journey, we already know he is physically strong, but this tale for his is all about fighting his inner demons. He was actually pretty damn sweet in this book. He does everything he can for Brenna, even face those things that he most wants to forget. Don’t worry Jase doesn’t become an emotional mess, he is still the total bad a$$ we have come to know and love. He does plenty of slicing and dicing along the way to save those he loves. Brenna is a total sweetheart, but we already knew that. What we didn’t know is that Brenna can channel her own inner bad a$$. Backed into a corner she will fight, though she is peaceful by nature she can pull pout her own inner bad a$$ and kick some major booty. She does not back down, she is a fighter and she fights for those she loves most. Jase quickly grabs Brenna’s heart and she fights for her man, but she knows what she wants from him and knows what she deserves and will not settle for less. I like a girl that knows she worth and demands it! Both Brenna and Jase are totally easy to love, straight from the beginning.
Overall, I was glued to this book from beginning to end. It had everything I love in a book, action, passion, loveable characters bad a$$ characters, emotional growth and an ending that leaves you wanting more and immediately checking to see when the next installment is out, and utter disappointment when you see it isn’t tomorrow lol. So you know I have to give this one an A! My only issues with this book, is I would have liked some more time with Janie and Zane. The Janie plot line has been more prevalent in some of the other books, but I’m thinking her book is next so I can be patient. And, I’m a total Aries, like to the core. I get bored with the same villain book to book. I know we are building towards something big and on one hand I appreciate that, but then my Aries nature kicks in and wishes we had a new villain to slay. Its one of the reasons I like Kresley Coles Immortals After Dark Series so much, each book there is a new villain to hate instead of the same one six books deep. The individual stories in each book, I adore, the villain, eh, Im ready to move on to a new one. Tho the battles are always interesting, so I cannot complain there. There is always enough action to keep even me entertained.

I had know from the moment Jase Kayrs met Breanne Dunne, that they would have an HEA. They just made sense...but it has been a long time (4 books) to get here.
It's been five years since the Kayrs brothers rescued their baby brother Jase from the demons, and Jase is still messed up. The torture and mind games has left him perpetually angry and unfortunately, powerless.
Jase was the brother who had control over water elements and since his release, his powers do not work.
Breanne Dunne, who had also been been kidnapped by the demons, is dying because they forced her to drink planekite, which is poisonous to witches. She has been given less than six months to live until her aunt Vivian comes with a brilliant plan. Mate with a vampire, and gain the immortality that comes with the mating.
Jase volunteers because mating would allow him to share Breanne's gifts as a witch and he can use it to get revenge against the Demons who held him prisoner for five years.
The only problem is that Breanne wants what her older sister Moira has with Jase's older Brother Conn--LOVE. A classic case of Revenge or Love, which is more important.
I really enjoyed this book as I knew I would. This series gets better and better. Alpha males with strong capable females, definitely lots of fireworks. There was a little movement on the plot, not much, as we approach the final showdown with Kalin, Janie and Zane. At least know we know a little more about Zane. And the vampires and witches have a stronger understanding.
I didn't give this book a 5 because after all that build up about Breanne's power, other than saving Janie, I wasn't that impressed. I kind of expected her to cure world hunger, create world peace etc. She didn't even find the cure to the virus. So I felt let down a tad. Plus, Janie never got the witches book of prophecy and it seemed really important. so what's up with that?
The romance and "healing" both physically and emotionally was so nicely done though. So I was pleased. All the Kayrs men have put their markings on someone. Alright!!!!
I don't know who the next full novel will be on, but I can't wait. I suppose it has to be the Janet Kayrs show as she should be the age of prophecy.
Everyone should give this series a try!

Another great installment in the "Dark Protectors" series. This one featured Jase Kayrs, youngest brother in a royal vampire family, and Brenna Dunne, a witch and sister to Moira. Jase had been a prisoner of the demons for 5 years which has changed him from the fun loving jokester of the family to a dangerous living on the edge powder keg individual. Brenna, is the eighth daughter of a seventh daughter witch who is prophetised to be either a blessing or curse to the witch world, the answer to be revealed on her 21st birthday.... if she lives that long.
Jase has agreed to mate with Brenna for multiple reasons including to protect her, to aide in a potentially life ending illness, but more importantly to share her powers so he can go after the demons who tortured and held him prisoner. Seems simple enough until his heart, which he didn't think worked anymore, began to beat again.
This is an ongoing installment that builds off the previous ones. It's really not a deal breaker to read this one if you haven't read the previous ones but to get the flavor of the back stories and interaction between the central players it's advised. Loved the chemistry that played off between Brenna and Jase and totally enjoyed how Jase and his brothers are united against their common enemy but won't hesitate to kick each others ass to settle their own arguments - broken bones and all. All in all this was a fun yet action/adventure read that continues to keep me reading the series. Fan for life.
I do however have to say: enoughs enough already. Janie/Zane/Kalin. Readers have been teased enough with this relationship. Their time has come and I'm on the edge of dropping this series if that doesn't happen in the next couple of installments. I go on record as saying that I was borderline not going to read this installment and just wait til the Janie/Zane/Kalin one comes out for the simple reason the "war" slant is getting redundant and boring. Bad guy kidnaps good guy or girl. Good guy or girl escapes or is rescued. Love blooms and HEA. That formula doesn't work for me anymore. -

REVIEW:
Jase was always the fun loving brother. But all that changed when he was captured by demons. After five years at the tortuous hands of the demons Jase is finally free of his prison but not the demons. In order to try to get some of his power backs Jase decides it time to take a mate. But this mating will not before love. This mating will be only about regaining power and possible saving Brenna from the poison in her system.
Brenna is at the end of the line. There is nothing more that doctors can do for her. Her only chance is to mate and hope that can save her. But there is no guarantee. And not just any mate will do. Brenna will need a non witch and preferable someone she at least likes a little. The last thing Brenna ever expected was Jase Kayrs offer to mate.
HOLY WOW!!!! I loved this book, love this world, love Jase & Brenna and love Rebecca for writing this series. If you are a fan of Rebecca’s Dark Protectors series you know Jase’s story. You know all that he has been through, how much he has changed and the hope that we all have for him. I can promise that Shadowed will not let you down.
If you are new to the Dark Protectors series I would highly suggest starting from the very beginning. There is so much that happens in each book that is important to the next. But I do think that you could pick up Shadowed and read it as a stand alone if you really wanted too.
I so can’t wait to see what is next!!!!

I was afforded the opportunity to read an ARC of Zanetti’s Shadowed. I am pleased to announce that she never allowed Brenna and Jase’s relationship/romance to be over-Shadowed by the plot. I was anxious to know would Brenna live up to the prophesy and how that would or would not affect the Realm. I was happy to catch up to my Moira, but Brenna never disappeared as I was afraid that she would.
As we knew from previous novels, Jase had been held captive by the demons and was angry, damaged & bitter. Meanwhile Brenna was dying of a rare blood virus. This virus slowly kills immortals and there is no known cure. The only hope is that Brenna (a witch), could/would mate with another immortal that was strong enough to cure her through the mate bond. Jase whose powers had waned due to his captivity needed Brenna to reactivate them and Brenna needed Jase’s blood to live, heal and survive.
A convenient mating, amongst the younger and weaker siblings. Both Jase and Brenna knew this was their last chance, both knew if this didn’t work Brenna would die and Jase was willing to die. I love the cross purposes that Zanetti introduced. Brenna was mating for survival and a cure and Jase was mating for revenge & power. This is usually where the author loses me, but Zanetti always let the respect, friendship, & passion lead in every scene. Which means even as Jase kept making the wrong decisions for vengeance, you always felt that Brenna was important to him.
Jase was protective, passionate and possessive about Brenna, and unapologetically so. He was willing to die for revenge, but not at the cost of Brenna.
