The first in a sparkling Regency-era series with a delightfully modern feel, set against the irresistible backdrop of an annual trip taken by three handsome earls . . .

Even an earl needs his ride-or-dies, and Archibald Fielding-Burton, the Earl of Harcourt, counts himself lucky to have two. Archie (the jock), Simon (the nerd), and Effie (the goth) have been BFFs since their school days, and their annual trip holds a sacred spot in their calendars. This year, Archie is especially eager to get away—until an urgent letter arrives from an old family friend, begging him to help prevent a ruinous scandal. Archie’s childhood pal Olive Morgan must be rescued from an ill-fated elopement—and her sister Clementine must be rescued from rescuing Olive. Suddenly the trip has become earls-plus-girls.

This . . . complicates matters. The fully grown Clementine, while as frank and refreshing as Archie remembers, is also different to the wild, windswept girl he knew. This Clem is complex and surprising—and adamantly opposed to marriage. Which, for reasons Archie dare not examine too closely, he finds increasingly vexing.

Then Clem makes him an indecent and quite delightful proposal, asking him to show her the pleasures of the marriage bed before she settles into spinsterhood. And what kind of gentleman would he be to refuse a lady?

✨I laughed, I cried a number of times. I sweat, I danced. I got a(nother book where the hero gets) shot (by the heroine). I ate and had many epiphanies <3✨

Yeah I just loved this a lot. I had high hopes since I enjoyed the preview I read a while back, and I finally found time to sit down and inhale it in a night.

Watching Archie and Clementine rekindle their childhood friendship and then fall in love was so cuuuuute. Clementine described the moment her mother said she realized she loved her father and then to see that mirrored in the things that Archie did >>> I don’t want to spoil it but I think it would technically be acts of service? Acts of doing things that you may not love for the person you love and now you too love those things because the person you love loves those things?? But I digress.

There is a pretty big content warning for a parent struggling dementia/early onset memory loss on page/discussed. Those moments with Archie’s mother had me crying in the club. There was just so much love in this book!!

The found family and friend group of it all really hit the spot for me. I loved the lack of toxic masculinity and really just the love between the three men. I can’t wait to see these characters again in book two!!! And I know Effie’s book is next but color me very intrigued about Simon 👀 They were all just so sweet.

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 🌶️*/5

*The only thing stopping this from being a perfect 5/5 was the lack of their consummation on page. There were two low-detail sex scenes (non penetration stuff) but man I wanted to at least see their wedding night. It was teased to us twice but we were shut out both times that just didn’t seem in line with what we got in the earlier scenes.

CWs: Parent struggling dementia/early onset memory loss on page/discussed.

Thanks so much to the publisher for an eARC via NetGalley. All opinions are honest and my own.

I really, really loved this low-angst friends-to-lovers Regency romcom!!! Clementine and Olive, sisters, are rescued from ruination by an old family friend and end up crashing a boys' getaway. Archie (aforementioned old family friend) and Clementine were close as children, but the death of her mother and his father led to a gradual distancing between the families. Now, though, thanks to the close proximity of the Earls Trip, Clem and Archie get to spend more time with each other, deepening their friendship and finding new points of connection.

Archie is one of the sweetest MMCs I've ever read: his greatest quality is that he's a truly decent person who loves his friends for exactly who they are. This book is friends-to-lovers and it's a romcom, but Jenny Holiday brings a good helping of heat, as well. I also teared up on at least two occasions. This one hits all my sweet spots and I'm so glad to have read it! Really looking forward to the full series and more historicals from Holiday.

    36-Word Summaries:

Laine: She is a vegetarian and his only hobby is hunting. That's it. That's the conflict. He rescues Clem from her rescue of her sister and doesn't HAVE to marry Clem, but boy does he want to.

Meg: Clementine and Archie haven’t seen each other for years. When they run into each other they’re both surprised to realize the other is … hot? And, like, really, really nice? Maybe even … perfect? Oh, no.

    Earls Trip by Jenny Holiday
    Historical romance.
Three Earls take an annual two week vacation. Archie, Simon and Effie have been friends since childhood. As a way to deal with their stress and everyday burdens, they take turns choosing a vacation spot and escape. This year, a messenger intercepts them on the way out of town, asking for Archie to rescue Olive and Clementine Morgan from a ruinous scandal. He, of course, rescues them, but returning them home would take up most of the two week planned get-away. So instead, the five travel to the remote, crumbling, and borrowed castle on the edge of Scotland, to relax and rejuvenate with strict instructions that the women remain out of the way so as to not bother or ruin the men’s escape.
Needless to say, separate areas of the castle doesn’t end up working and they all find deeper friendships in the end.

Humorous, delightful and adorable. A slow burn blooming friendship, multiple times over between the group, with Archie and Clem turning into a deeper bond of romance. Vegetarian cooking and leaking roofs add depth and color. A story you will love. I hope this is the beginning of a series as I’d love to revisit with these friends.

  • Southern Lady Reads (Crazy Busy-Will Catch Up!)

When it comes to wild women, one doesn't traditionally equate it with women who quite literally look quite so... wild. With leaves in their hair and grass stains upon their dresses, those sorts of girls are estimated for spinsterhood in the Victorian Era.

For Clementine, though, nothing she's ever wanted has been conventional. From her desire to learn to her outlandish requests of her friend and gentleman, Archie, to explain *bedroom matters* before she descends into spinsterhood after a botched engagement... Clementine and Archie are childhood friends about to descend into more than friendship.

If you've ever found yourself feeling at odds with societal norms, and you love historical fiction Earl's Trip is your next read!

    As it stands now, dnf.

    I was bored.
I have NO idea what was going on.
Historical romance? No, not a single feel of that. Could have been anywhere, anytime
    Too much talking, thinking.
No idea who it was about

This fun Regency era novel brings humor and a lively look at a group of male friends on a yearly excursion. It has a modern feel that adds to the romantic charm when two lovely ladies become the focus of their attention. Loved it!

Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC.

    Opinions are mine.

I was sent an invitation to read this book, the author is new to me, and I usually give new authors an easier review, but this author has written other books, so this is not a debut novel. I found the story too politically motivated, a feminist in the mid-1800s, not only is she anti-marriage, she is a vegetarian, not even eating eggs. Her childhood friend, Archie, has grown into the Earl of Harcourt, every year, he and his two friends Simon, and Effie, go on a boys-only trip, this year they decide on a dilapidated castle, as they are off,
Clementine and her sister Olive have become involved with the same man, a vegetarian activist who has written a book and is actively pushing for hunters to stop hunting, and even worse to stop eating the meat. Spoiler Alert: I should have known that the protagonist gets her way, that the man wimps out and gives into her obsession. Needless to say, I did not like the protagonist or the two other males who make up the Earl's Trip! Sorry, even though I eat mostly chicken, I crave a hamburger once in a while, and I enjoy every bite of it, without remorse! I found the protagonist to be self-righteous and irritating, I read for escapism, and to be entertained, not to be lectured on a subject that I heartily disagree with.

First off, I am OBSESSED with this cover. It’s a cartoon cover I can get behind.

Sadly, the cover is the best thing about it. At 31%, I don’t feel like finishing this one. It had its amusing moments, but I was bored and the earls all seemed to have been to a 21st-century therapist, throwing around phrases like “found family.” It felt more like a bromance than a romance tbh. Better books are waiting patiently on my TBR.

This is a charming, touching, and sweet friends-to-lovers romance that I devoured in under 24 hours. The premise: Archie and his friends are going on their annual "Earls Trip" to the country when his country neighbor writes about intercepting his youngest daughter and the man she's run away with. That man happens to have been engaged to his older daughter, Archie's childhood friend, Clementine. The three friends delay the Earls Trip to find the couple. At the same time, Clementine has tracked her sister and former fiancé. All come together at a coaching inn and the three friends take the sisters with them on their trip while the fiancé is coerced to head to America.

While on the trip, Archie and Clementine renew their friendship and develop deeper feelings. There's a secondary relationship between the sister and one of the friends.

The writing is so fun in this - lots of humor, but so many sweet moments between characters. I teared up a bit in a scene with Archie's mother when the trip is over - it was beautifully done.

Thankfully, the epilogue reveals that this is the start of a series.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for an ARC copy of Earls Trip!

For the first ten percent of this book I was iffy on if it was for me. I genuinely contemplated giving up and just trying to read it in between other books since I knew I had to review it in exchange for the ARC.

Once I got through the initial bit of the book and they get to the castle Earls Trip takes a turn. It becomes absolutely amazing! I enjoyed the development of the characters and the slow burn romance. Everyone has their personal motivations and feel like real people by the end. I truly enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading Effie's book next year.

Jenny Holiday strikes again! This is only my second book of hers, but I have a feeling that it's just the beginning.

Similar to Canadian Boyfriend which I read earlier this year and loved, Earls Trip hooked me with it's hilarious premise—what if a bunch of earls (okay, fine, two earls and one viscount) take a yearly vacation together, but this time it's hijacked by two women who just barely escape social ruin? Like, yes, I absolutely need to know what happens here and how it turned out.

It turned out laugh-out-loud funny, without compromising in thoughtfulness and swoon. Despite the outlandish premises, Jenny Holiday never fails to deliver on emotions and romance that feel so real. It almost feels crazier that this is all just on the page, and not real life.

Earls Trip followed Archie and Clementine as they reconnect after having lost touch. Archie wants to spend his holiday with his boys, because he's worried he hasn't amounted much to anything, despite being one of his ailing mother's caretakers. Clementine, desperate to escape society into the wilderness, wants to understand her sister as well as herself. The pair, who were childhood best friends and correspondents until they lost touch, fall in love slowly, then all at once, when they discover that the other is the person they can open up to about all the feelings they have about everything that's vexing them.

Starring also are Effie, Simon, and Olive, who were delightful supporting characters and with Clem and Archie form a lovely found family. I hope we get more of all these characters in the next book, which belongs to Effie. I can't wait to read the resident goth bestie's story of falling in love!

  • Mia Reads Romance

This is a romance with a lot of heart that will make you smile and laugh and swoon. I have really enjoyed Jenny Holiday's contemporary romance so I was really excited to give Earl's Trip a try. It didn't disappoint.

I loved how supportive Archie and his friends were of each other! I really love a romance book with strong male friendships and I really hope we get to see each of the friends get an HEA! I also liked getting to see Archie and Clem reconnect. It was fun to watch them and only them be oblivious to their feelings.

This is definitely a historical with a more modern feel. We see discussion of found family and some loosening of rules and gender norms that it is less common to see in historical romance. I personally really enjoy this style of historical romance but know it isn't for everyone. I do think if you are a contemporary romance reader considering a historical this is a great one to try!

I am really hoping we might get more books about this group of friends! I think Effie, Simon and maybe Olive deserve happily ever afters as well!

3.75 ⭐️ cute read! read solely to align with the season 3 release of Bridgerton but wasn’t disappointed.

When Jenny Holiday hits for me, she really hits. When she misses, she misses big. This feels more like the latter, so I’m calling it now.

Big thanks to Kensington books and netgalley for giving me early access to this title.

I absolutely adored this book. It is so vivid and well paced.

This story follow Archie who is about to embark on his yearly Earl's trip with his two best friends Simon and Effie. As they're leaving town they get flagged down by a messenger with an urgent message from one of Archie's father's friends saying that his daughter, Olive, has eloped and her sister, Clementine, has gone after her. The group of young Earl's decide it is their duty to find these two young women, whom Archie grew up with, and rescue them from scandal. After everyone is safe, Archie decides there's no reason why the Earl's trip shouldn't go on as normal, so they're now a group of five in a decrepit house, trying their best.

This romance has so many things that I love, forced proximity, friends to lovers, secrets, and mess. The characters, outside of Simon, were all really well fleshed out and were full people with wants, desires, and history. The pace of the romance was great, and the reveals of secrets were well timed. I was also really impressed with the depiction of Alzheimer's, as Archie's mother suffers from the disease and plays an important part in the story.

Overall this was a really well written book and a lot of fun. I would recommend it for fans of Bridgertons and the Regency Vows series. I believe that the intention is to turn this book into a series as well, and I really look forward to reading more about these characters. I also think that this would make an excellent film or series.

A hilarious Regency romance that is the perfect blend of Bridgerton & Ted Lasso and sees three best friend Earls have their annual getaway trip taken over by a mission to rescue to estranged sisters. I loved the found family element in this book, the run down castle setting, the two female main characters working on repairing their relationship and the dyslexia rep! Great on audio and perfect for fans of authors like Julia Quinn, Erica Ridley or Cat Sebastian. I'm excited to see what happens in the next instalment of this new trilogy by Canadian romcom queen, Jenny Holiday!

  • Michelle Godard-Richer

This is such a cute and adventurous regency romance with a bit of steam. I absolutely loved the cast of the three friends, Archie, Simon, and Effie who embark on their annual tradition of their Earl's Trip. A pair of sisters, Clementine and Olive, Archie's childhood friends, end up joining the men on their vacation with their own interesting storyline. Told from the perspective of Archie and Clementine, the plot unfolds with humor and intrigue and a ton of personality. I highly recommend this story for fans of historical romance who enjoy Bridgerton.

This was a buddy read that my bestie bought for us for my birthday. We couldn't have picked a sweeter book.

The relationship between the Earls was precious and I loved that they weren't afraid of showing affection to each other, and that they were so gentle and caring with their bond. It really added a lovely depth to the book and to these characters.

Then we have the ladies thrown into the mix! I really enjoyed Clem. And the love that slowly bloomed between her and Archie was adorable.

I really came to care for all of these characters. Also, wow, did I cry at the end of this book. OOF.

🌼 I really did not expect Theodore Bull to quit quite so easily. So what if Archie and Simon roughed him up a little? He still could have used the fact that he slept with Clementine or traveled unchaperoned with Olive as a means to marry one of them for their dowry.
🌼 I did not expect Archie to give up hunting or to go full vegetarian in just a few days because of Clementine (or his love for Clementine). I think they could have pursued a happy compromise between the two of them.
🌼 I am not sure how feasible vegetarianism was at this time without knowledge of certain vitamins and nutrients. Furthermore, I am not sure how Clementine made it work without fish or eggs in her diet.
🌼 The “realization” / “revelation” scenes were poorly written and abrupt.
🌼 Characters’ speeches and diction did not always sound realistic to the time period
🌼 I’m glad Clementine slugged Mr. Bull and also asked Archie to show her pleasure
🌼 Sex scenes could have been better written

Crashing the boy's weekend - regency style.

Archie, Lord Harcourt, looks forward to his annual trip with his dearest friends Effie and Simon. These two weeks mean the world to him; a dedicated son he spends much of the rest of the year in the country, caring for his memory-addled mother. As the boys embark on their journey to a supposed haunted castle in Cumbria, word reaches Archie that his childhood friends, sisters Clementine and Olive Morgan, have become embroiled in a potentially dangerous and certainly scandalous elopement - Olive has run off with a Mr. Bull, formerly known as Clementine's betrothed. Clementine has taken off after her sister, and the boys rush to prevent both the sisters' ruin.

The characters in this novel are so lively. The love between Archie, Simon, and Effie was so vibrant it felt as though it came off the page - though at times the dialogue was a bit on the nose and cheesy, it was in the spirit of the novel. There were a few times when a character gave words to something that I feel were better off being implied than stated outright as it read a bit awkward and again, cheesy. Clementine and Olive both had a unique flair to them that made them stand out as individuals. Clementine and Archie's friends-to-lovers arc was for lack of better words - very cute. Both Archie and Clementine possess a passionate caring nature and that quality was the foundation of their relationship. What stood out to me was the ending, nearly bringing me to tears despite the mostly affable tone of the novel.

Set in the regency period this novel has the same modern feel as Holiday's contemporary works. This was appealing and refreshing for my reading experience, but admittedly may not be everyone's cup of tea.

Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington Books for the copy in exchange for an honest review!

Genre: historical romance with contemporary vibes
    London, 1821

“What happens on Earls Trip, stays on Earls Trip. Usually.” Thus sets the tone of the adventures of Archibald Fielding-Burton (Archie), the Earl of Harcourt and his friends Simon Courteney, Earl of Marsden, and Edward Astley (Effie), Viscount Featherfinch. Every year, the friends take a trip together. There are some rules - no more hunting after Archie accidentally shot Effie when he thought his plumes were a wild animal, for example - but this is largely a responsibility-free getaway. Except this year, Clementine and her sister Olive, old neighbors of Archie’s, have themselves in a spot of trouble. Olive appears to be eloping with Clementine’s fiance, and now both girls may be ruined, and at the request of their father Sir Albert, Archie and his friends are off to the rescue.

What a fun read! I enjoy Jenny Holiday’s contemporaries and was delighted to discover she had a historical rom-com. This book puts the com in comedy: it's entirely modern and tongue in cheek in a late Georgian setting. It starts out with a quote from Ted Lasso, and that sets the tone. Holiday leans into this tone, which works well, because the book never masquerades as something it's not. If you can't handle overly modern language or sentiments in your historicals, stay away, but if you want light hearted fun, fresh characters, and an enjoyable trip, this is for you.

I’ll be excited to see where this series goes, as there are a lot of possibilities for great character development. The friendships in this book are just as strong as the romantic relationship, and I know they’re all going to continue to get up to no good!

Thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley for an eARC for review. Earls Trip is out 4/23/24!

  • Lindsay pinkcowlandreads

I’m always hesitant when authors make the leap between contemporary and historical romance, Jenny Holiday’s contemporary voice blended well to the historical boys road trip story in her latest release, Earl’s Trip.

The Earl of Harcourt needs to get away and the annual Earl’s trip couldn’t have come any sooner … too bad he has to take a detour with his friends to help his wayward former friends and neighbours, Miss Clementine and Olive Morgan from their own adventurous folly!

Harcourt makes quick work of finding and rescuing the Miss Morgans, and it’s decided that their motley crew of three Earls and the two misses will continue on to the Earls trip and allow the scandal to dissipate on the ladies adventure.

Originally trying to segregate themselves from the ladies, the Earls attempt to continue their holiday as planned… But with Miss Clementine on his mind, Harcourt can’t stop thinking about the friendship and camaraderie they used to share and the sparks that have started since their reunion…

I’m not usually a big friends to lovers fan, but I really enjoyed how this one played out and the authentic progression of the lost friendship and connection transitioning into a love match.

A major element of the story was the friendship between the earls and the relationship between the sisters. I appreciated how it wasn’t just a romance. It was about friendships and the connections people have and that makes life better. It was fun to watch the sisters reunite and come back together from a minor estrangement and the Earls continued to gang together to support each other.

I’m excited to see where Jenny Holliday takes the series next as she continues with the Earls and I hope to see more trips and more shenanigans!

This a first time read by Jenny Holiday, new author to this reader. “Earl’s Trip” was quite an enjoyable and colorful story. There is Archie and his friends who set off for their annual trip that ends up getting interrupted when a friend of the family sends a letter seeking his help with rescuing two sisters and not knowing what to expect when they get there. The hero, Archie finds himself involved in plenty of tension with Clementine, the heroine. The main characters a likeable individuals and the other characters are too. I found this story to be a witty and lighthearted romp that had me smiling at times throughout the story. Although the book starts off slow, it does pick up close to midway. I enjoyed the "men time" between the earls and the two sisters becoming closer and making peace with one another. My only drawback is the length of the chapters....thought they were a bit long and the intimacy that was not quite what I like with historical romances. Overall, a delightful and enjoyable read.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an eARC of this book via NetGalley and Kensington Books. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

    Audio

Ted Lasso meets Bridgerton was the tagline for the library copy of this book. Obviously, I could not resist.

Three guys head off on a two week guys trip to the country but are forced to rescue childhood friends from ruination on the way. The five friends let down their guard for the duration of the trip at a ramshackle castle and learn to appreciate the entirety of their quirky personalities.

It’s extremely cute, at times funny, and the comparison to the tv shows is apt. It gives a cozy vibe that reminded me of Legends and Lattes but without the monsters.

Audio was great! It’s a male narrator which is unusual for a romance, I think. There are some heavy topics, mostly to do with dementia and other rocky relationships with parents.

If there's one regency romance you read this year, let it be Earls Trip. This read was refreshing and delightful as it centered around an endearing group of 3 men and their childhood to adulthood friendship. I thought the premise exciting and the writing masterful; several times I would go back to read a line because I loved the turn of phrase.

I loved how the story naturally evolved and how sweet the supporting characters were. Moreover, I loved how two old friends reconnected and the romance of it all, Archie was written to be so caring, and loyal as he aimed to listen and fully understand Clementine. All the characters were well developed and I found their relationships (friendship and familial) meaningful. I'm excited to read the next books in this series!

  • Alina Mistuloff

I hate rating anything below a 3 (especially with such a cute cover!!!), but this one was just not it for me. I was bored for nearly the entire book, up until about 90% in. Unfortunately I would not recommend this to a fellow reader.

  • Ava Griffy

This book was really really cute. Did not disappoint. I really liked that there were no big issues for the couple as the book went on. Totally Bridgerton-esque in the fact that is was NOT historically accurate, but had the viiiiibes of the time, y'know? I would say tho, it was not overly capturing. I liked the characters, but I didn't feel like I was overly invested in their lives.

Would 100% recommend for a shorter, lighthearted read. But not super mentally stimulating. You gotta know what you're in the mood for fr.
