You and Your Marriage Reviews

Book was given to my parents as a wedding gift and I had read peices out of it during my time at college when still single. Has some good down to earth advise for Married and Unmarried alike. Book is out of print, but I was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy. Hugh B. Brown doesn't mince words. Straight forward and to the point. No beating around the bush. In today's cultural climate, some may find his writing offensive or deemed "Old Fashoined." I personally found it to be refreshing, full of wisdom, and eternal truths.

A friend was throwing this out, so I thought I'd give it a read. Extremely dated and old school LDS advice about marriage that I struggled to get through. My memory was a bit hazy, but it certainly didn't shed much light on my shortcomings. It did have a couple good stories that he gave as a Bishop that were reassuring and helpful.

insights into tempers in marriage (and the need for emotional maturity and discussion on WHAT is maturity) were interesting.
chapter on hard knocks for children best part of the book. The rest was NOT worth my time. The whole idea that we as parents are VERY much responsible for the spirits that are sent to our home, for the way they develop, their potential "issues", was interesting. I think there are two sides of the coin, but his treatment of the subject was NOT dated... and was much else about the book.
don't know that i would recommend other than a few quotes and that one chapter. Additionally, it was written in a very "high fluting" style, which I honestly found annoying. -
Full of great information for spouses. I probably should read it again and see what I can glean now that I've been married longer than a year (which is when I read it the first time.)

Well, I read a small pamphlet that says it is "a digest of the book by the same name" so, I didn't actually read the whole book. But, this short little version was pretty good. I like what he says.

practical advice some of it was outdated but other parts were good reads
