A good place to start for the low down on the War. A Simple through line of the major events, short and informative.

The Atlas of Conflicts: The Vietnam War by Reg Grant is a well rounded non-fiction book on the History of the Vietnam War. This book is a narrative about the war from the perspective of the US. Aside from all the information given in writing, it includes media such as historical pictures, maps of the location of different armies and war strategies, poems, and famous quotes. The book was written in a formal style but in an easy-to-understand tone and although it is written from the perspective of the US, I have a feeling that it is more unbiased than many books published in America on this subject. Overall, the book could have been improved in several ways. For example, I think there should be more content regarding the media’s role during the war; because this is the first war that the media had full freedom to report from their perspective, which had a HUGE influence on the Vietnam War. Also, even though I can tell that Reg Grant tries to write this book in a unbiased way, he makes the war sound less harsh than it was. Although in the last page of the book, there was a poem; “The war is never going to be over for me. Any man who fought there is going to his grave with that war”, I might be biased, but I still feel like there needs to be more reflection on the American side; it was originally a Vietnamese civil war, but America became mistakenly and “honorably” involved and in a way invaded the homelands of the Vietnamese. Everything considered, I am going to give this book a 3.5 since overall it is well organized and I realize that I may be biased on this subject since I grew up in another country, but this book will still be a good read for those just wanting to know about the Vietnam War from the surface.
