HIGHWAY: An Apocalyptic Thriller Reviews

  • Jan Martindale

Way to close to the bone possiblle

Excellent character driven story, & I liked how religion is used to show oppressiveness, domination, control, manipulation, against those who chose another way of life, only to once more become under the thumb of those who would destroy America as the “Great Satan”.

  • Deirdre Christine

Reading this book was the literary equivalent of going to see a Steven Seagal movie: lots of jingoistic subtext, one-dimensional characters, and stereotyped foreign enemies - a shallow, action-driven, mildly entertaining way to spend a couple hours. I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic literature, but I'm pretty sure this book was aimed at a different demographic than mine. Three stars for the book because I did read and mostly enjoy it. Only two stars for me as the reader, though, for continuing to read a book that actually made me quite uncomfortable in its portrayal of Islam in a way that feels exploitative at best, and xenophobic at worst.

3.5 Stars. Instead of a survival story of finding food, water and shelter, the survival is fighting terrorists. I enjoyed the first part of the story, when Lexi and Travis were “on the road” looking for their uncle. Once they found their uncle, it’s all about fighting terrorists. Not my type of book.

    wow. a great read

This is a fresh take on the usual emp story. This one is full of twists and turns. Can't wait to read next one!

  • Michael Keller

Stanley Broadmoor grabbed his estranged children and bugged out toward sanctuary in Florida

Too late, the first bombs fell and nuclear fury brought down the power grid across America. Stan's prized Plymouth Fury left the highway and a signpost ended his life. But his kids, Lexi and Travis survived and began their trek across a dark America to find safety with their godfather. Adventure ensues!
An all to possible scenario, EMP blasts taking down the grid, leaving the US in chaos. Excellent characters fleshed in possibilities follow a storyline frought with wrinkles and dangers. This is a great story!
