This was a good book that I read for a challenge. Royce Hunter is a hot sexy bachelor who runs is family's multi-billion dollar company. Kasey York is a security guard who works in his building. When these two hook up it is hot and heavy until they have a little accident that neither one of them at happy about. Kasey who is trying to move on with her life she is also taking care of her dying mother and an aunt with special needs. These two had nothing in common but I really liked both of these character's. This was a good read this was my first time reading this author this book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

So much happened in this book death, abuse, pregnancy, sperm doner fathers popping in. Kasey was such a strong character not just for what she went through but because she worked so hard to pay her mothers bill, by working 3 jobs didn't take shit from no one. Royce ah I loved him towards half way through the book, The first half he was such an asshole I wanted to punch him for not wanting to be there. When he finally got his head out his ass he was okay and supportive but it took him almost losing the baby to realize it. Great book had a mix of everything can't wait for the other brothers.

I'm off on a new adventure by Kathi S. Barton with 'Royce', the first book in her "Hunter" series. I'll freely admit, Royce has an extremely dominant, arrogant personality and his description is melt worthy, but his personality left me thinking someone needed to take him down more than a peg or two. If wanting to see him humbled makes me a sadist, then so be it. Not only did he need it but I was there to witness it and it did my heart good. Kasey was no mealy- mouth. She'd been raised by a single mother to become independent and stand up for what she believed in and by golly, she did just that … several times. These characters are all strong and relatable, flaws and all. Even with all that being said, there's no way not to root for them to have their happy ending. ~sigh~ I just have a feeling all of these Hunter men are going to wind up making fools of themselves before they come to their senses and get it right. It'll be fun to watch.

Royce Hunter is happily living as a wealthy bachelor and doesn't have any plans in settling down anytime soon. When he is stopped from entry into his building by a stunning security guard, Kasey York he finds himself intrigued by the beauty who stands by the rules. Of course he had not realized that it would leave Kasey in a vulnerable position and Royce playing a part in her life.

Royce can't resist Kasey but he isn't ready for what one night together leads to. Royce reacts without thinking and realizes he has a long way to make amends for his attitude towards Kasey.

I wanted to smack Royce, he is a bit spoiled and quickly learns from his own family that he has wronged Kasey. I enjoyed this book quite a bit, I am always a sucker for stories that have an arrogant male and a feisty heroine. Great first read in series.

This was a spectacular read that I could not put down, seriously carried it with me throughout the house.

You could not help but fall in love with the characters, and you wanted them to be happy no matter what they had to endure and what they had to do to get there. The story kept you interested throughout and once it started on the first page it moved along at an awesome pace till the very last word.

I cannot wait to read more from this fabulous author, and plan on starting another one today.

Awesome, Fantastic and the list goes on.

Royce owns the building Kasey works for but Kasey didn't know that till she refused him entrance to his own building until he was cleared, and Royce wasn't annoyed he was impressed and interested. Later that day Royce was notified that Kasey was brutally beaten by her boss who was mad at her for the earlier events. While on the road to recovery Royce has stayed in contact with Kasey and they both find themselves interested but irritated with each other. But one night while Royce is keeping an eye on Kasey in the heat of the moment they find themselves together, and after realize that the consequences is a baby. Kasey and Royce have made it very clear they don't want to be together but Royce isn't sure if she really means it or if she wants his money and name. Kasey has had a hard life a father who didn't want her or her mother, and a mother who is diagnosed with a terminal illness she doesn't need to add to that with Royce. But Royce soon realizes his mistake and now he has to prove it to the most stubborn woman woman he's ever met. This was an ok read but something held me back from really connecting with these charters and growing to care about them as much as I had hoped that being said I really enjoyed the story line. This is book one in The Hunter Series and we get a peak into who book two will be about. I do like that each book will be about new characters this is refreshing when it seems like every book you read now is a series where you don't get the whole story till you read five books.

Royce has to be one of the most unlikeable characters I have come across in a Kathi Barton book, but!!!! I loved Kasey and the way the family handled the problem of workforce abuse. Kasey suffers from so much at the hand of her "boss" that you feel strongly for her from the get go. Royce is simply a grade A jerk. He isn't very likeable, snooty, entitled and arrogant. Frankly - if I ever met someone like him, I would walk away. I did like the programs the family designs to handle the abuse they found out about. The trial outcome blew me away - literally and Royce, finally, becomes more likeable by the end of the book. Well written and a great story line as far as I am concerned.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I wanted to like this more than I did, but Royce just kinda killed it for me. I got tired of him telling Kasey how he wouldn't marry her. He had no reason not to but even so, he was always belligerent about it. I don't understand why he couldn't talk to her ever without his foot in his mouth?? And yet she wanted him? Why? Guy had no sense of humour.
Plus how on earth did they get it on with so much passion when she must've still been in extreme pain. Well she was in extreme pain. It was ridiculous and took me right out of the story. I almost put Royce in my 'unforgiveable asshat' shelf. It was a close call.

Actually enjoyed this book more the second time round.

An intresting book of a new series by Kathi. S Barton.

  • Jamoz23

Loved Kasey, boy didn't she have an emotional rollercoaster.
    Royce deserved a big slap.
Liked how strong and independent Kasey is. Royce is a complete donkeys arse for the first half and whiney for the second half. His change of mind and attitude from Mr, I don't love her and am not marrying her just because she is pregnant, to, I love you and not because you are pregnant, gave me whiplash.
Loved how Royce's brothers supported Kasey.
Royce’s mother, oh boy. She was nice apart from one really stupid thing she said but she owned up to it straight away.
I just couldn’t understand how these two had sex when Kasey was in so much pain after being beaten to hell and back. Just didn’t work in my mind.
The backstory with White was very sad.
Read years ago but review missing. Tidying up my books so replacing missing reviews.

Royce and Kasey will capture your hearts with their inspiring story. Kasey has lived a hard life. She is independent, feisty and takes no mess from anyone. When she stops a man from entering the elevator without a pass, her world changes. All she wants is to be left alone but Royce is having none of that for he is just as stubborn as she is. Will these two bullheaded individuals lock horns or is fate and cupid setting them up for a happily ever after?

Much to everyone's shock, I actually enjoy these kind of stories. Stories with strong, independent heroine, and a sexy alpha male, an unexpected pregnancy and hate-love relationship, however, this isn't a story I enjoyed.

First: As I stay above, I LOVE a strong female lead, however in this case, the female lead was not what I found strong, she was more like stubborn. I have nothing against stubborn woman (people) but I do however, have something against people who act stubborn but just turns out annoying. Kasey was one of those. At least that's my opinion. She crossed that fine line between stubborn and annoying. In fact, she didn't just cross it, she crush it. I hate annoying characters.

Second: I didn't connect with the characters, much less their relationship. I felt like they just met, bam, and they know each other already. Sometimes I felt like Royce was a 14 year old boy in the body of a 30 year old man. Specially with how he acted around his brothers and mother. When Kasey was beaten up, I didn't feel her pain either. All I felt was annoyance for her stubbornness to accept help. I really wanted to strangle her sometimes (okay, most times).

Third: If you know me, you know that I love hate-love relationship. I got the impression that this was supposed to be that kind of relationship, however, I just got the feeling of insta-love with stubbornness.

Forth: I hated the constant mentioning of marriage. Just because you knocked someone up, doesn't mean you have to marry. I mean, come on, we live in the 20th Century for goddsake.

The only thing I actually felt a bit was when I'm saddened by the fact that this book didn't turn out to be what I expected. Perhaps I had too high expectations, who knows?!

Can't believe I haven't read this one before! I thought I'd gotten my hands on everything Kathi has written!

Kasey York is just trying to live her life. She is supporting not only herself, but taking care of her terminally ill mother. As a guard in the Hunter building Kasey has worked herself to the bone and only making part-time. With a slimeball supervisor she can't get benefits of a full time employee unless they come to an agreement ;) (yes he sexual kind)

**"Don't tell me that I don't love you. It's taken me nearly thirty years to figure out that I do and I plan to say it a great deal."**

Royce Hunter never wants to marry. He's happy with his life not being dragged down. But one altercation with Kasey has changed everything for him. Although he tries to fight his growing feelings for her he can't resist. Now with a surprise pregnancy in the mix he has his work cut out to convince Kasey he loves her and not just for the baby.

This book made me laugh, had me choked up, and more importantly falling in love with the characters. Kasey is a very independent woman, she depends on nobody but herself. Royce is stubborn and pig-headed, but when he falls, he falls hard and nothing is going to stop him from getting his woman.

**I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book**

While not my favorite of Ms. Barton's stories it was still an interesting read. I am not really sure what I think of Royce's family, his brothers seemed alright but his mothers treatment of Kasey was really not well done of her. Royce also seemed to be a big Butt head for lack of a better word, he was so vocal on not marrying her or having anything to do with the "stupid mistake" that I found it somewhat funny when he got ticked off if he was not given the information he wanted. Kasey was an intense character, she was strong, tough and knows right from wrong. While I know she came off as a bitch I think it was mostly bluster to keep people from getting close to her. The storyline is similar to the others as we have six privileged brothers, a strong maternal figure and we introduce a women that knocks them off their feet. I really like that the men have to work to get the female character, having wealth and looks usually get them what they want quickly and it is fun to see them actually get told no, go away or to go get over themselves. I look forward to seeing what happens with the next brother, it should be quite a fun experience.

I was given an ARC for an honest review

I originally wrote this review back in 2014 and I can’t remember why or when I pulled it off the blog.

I am not sure this one counts as I had to skip the first two or three chapters. Which is why I am only giving it two stars and to be honest I am not sure if the if I am giving it a fair rating. This book had me conflicted in some stages. I really got into the middle of the book and wanted to cry when Royce broke Kasey’s heart over and over again. The beginning of the book had me ready to delete said book from my library and the end though very climatic just didn’t do it for me.

I know that Kathi Barton is a talented author so I am of a mind that this book just wasn’t my cup tea. I do love her Golden Streak series and plan on reading those books again sometime soon.

Wow. Where do I start? This is my first book by this author. And I really liked it. The characters were very interesting and engaging. The plot was very good and full of depth. It was all very good, despite the rather hard to believe instant sex scenes. But the editing, gah. A good story could have been a great story, with professional editing. Since this is far from the author's first book, I suppose they will all suffer from poor editing. Nevertheless, I will read more of her books.

I wasn't positive that this was a 4 star book, but I couldn't put it down so that's the score. There's the usual H meets h, but the addition of workplace sexual harassment and violence that may be hard for some to read. In addition, there's the usual bickering/arguing between the H and h, as well as misunderstandings and more than one foot-in-mouth problem. There is a HEA for Royce and Kasey and a meddling mother for setting up the next in the series.

  • Moira

DNF at 70%. Talk about an asshole. Jeez! It was a struggle to get this far. I can't stand women who fall for assholes, with no redeeming qualities. He is a narcissist who would make a horrible husband and father. When he took her back to his place after the hospital I was done.
Not for me. I like true alphas not assholes.

  • Linda Rimer-Como

Intriguing story that keeps you interested from beginning to end. Royce and Kasey are two very strong characters that bring out the best in each other. The story moves along nicely, the characters are realistic and the storyline is great. Wonderful start to a series I look forward to reading.

    Received copy for review.

I liked this book. It was well written. It did annoy me with the backwards and forwards I don't want her, but I do, no I don't, oh maybe I do, nope definitely not, ok yeah I love her. And she's just as bad. But overall I ended up loving the whole story.
