Jessamine Stone's brother would marry her off to a covetous boor to salvage an impoverished estate. But Jessamine can love only Christian Haukinge—the handsome lord to whom she was once betrothed. Assured that she may wed her onetime fiancé if he consents to have her, the penniless beauty sets out to win Christian's affections once more— unaware that the rogue has been offered a tidy sum to break Jessamine's heart.
Embittered over past injustices, Christian has good reason to despise the Stone family—and so ruthlessly agrees to the contemptible bargain. But Jessamine's sensuous spirit, her innocent trust, and her melting green- eyed gaze threaten to undermine his resolve for vengeance—and to heal his deep and scarring wounds with the soothing balm of unconditional love.

I received a free copy of the Audible audio edition in exchange for an honest review.
Again, wishing for half stars. I'd like to give this one 3.5, but enjoyed it enough to round up. I enjoyed the narrator's performance which I'm convinced made this a 4 star rather than a 3. I will definitely be willing to listen to others by her. She did a great job with making the male lead sound believably masculine, which IMHO is the most important and probably the hardest thing to do for a female narrator. I am not sure if the accents were correct for the area of England the H/h were from, but that didn't bother me. It sounded right and that's enough for me. However as an American and a southerner, I did catch that the accent spoken by the h's servant in Charleston was all wrong. But, it was maybe all of 5 lines in the entire book.
I love Charleston or Charlestown as it was known at the time. I could definitely get a feel for where things were taking place. It's one of my favorite vacation spots and favorite romance settings. So, that's always good and the story itself was very intriguing. I also loved the heroine.
What lost the book the 1 1/2 star was the hero. I LOVE a good vengeful hero story and was very excited to listen to this. However, the hero has to have a good reason to feel vengeful toward the heroine (even if it's all a pack of lies). I'm still not quite sure what Christian's reason was. He had taken the bribe to break the heroine's heart and he had financially ruined her father. Sounds like Jessamine had all the reasons to be vengeful.
Christian was mad at her because.... Um, I'm not really sure. He thought she may have revealed an embarrassing family secret and she couldn't deny that her brother wanted to marry her off to a man old enough to be her father. He already knew about that! The brother told him he wanted her heart broken so she'd quit being romantic and accept the match he wanted for her. The only explanation for Christian's OTT anger was insecurity, I think. He felt like he wasn't good enough for the h, so when things fell apart, he found it easier to blame her because he fell back into his pity-party 'she thinks she's better than me' attitude. Which was ridiculous, given the heroine's personality. He reminded me of a child who - when faced with an adult who is justifiably angry about his behavior - decides he'll show them and be angry right back, just because.
I also wish Christian had had to do something more to make up for being such a jerk - some groveling or making a sacrifice or something to win back the heroine's trust. The whole being paid to break her heart plotline was kind of glossed over. -

I got this as an Audible from the author and publisher.
I was really surprise with this book because it was nothing like the synopsis. The synopsis was only the beginning of the story and there were so much more after that that I was unaware of and it really got me unhinged.
I was really hooked from the beginning because I absolutely liked Christian and his back-story to why he was willing to ruin Jessamine and take her brother’s money. But I really wanted more from him as the story went on, even if I did get a lot from him as the story moved from England to the Colonies in America I wanted more depth and emotion other than just jealousy and rage. But he does have my point for having this huge bag of love for Jess before everything went down the drain. I really liked that he was in tune to his feelings for her and were very open about it too.
But Jess on the other hand I didn’t like so much. From the very beginning you can tell she was very naive and clumsy, innocent and childish. She didn’t know much about relationships which I understood for her time but can she really be that naive at the age of 22? I’m not sure, she should had known something of the likes or something, but that’s just my opinion. She was interesting I’ll admit especially when she was was in conversation with Christian, I found it witty and fun. But as time went down the drain I just found her annoying and a TSTL heroine for Christian. When did it change? It was really at the beginning of the story when she couldn’t open her dang mouth to speak the truth against her scheming brother and tell Christian she loved him when he had said it to her.
So now Christian thinks her a harlot for playing him because she’s supposedly “engaged” to this 50 year old dude (who stole Jess from Christian 6 years ago when he lost his title to his ash of a brother by proclaiming him a bastard) and so Christian ruins Jess by asking if she “liked” their scandalous liaison under the oak tree a couple of days ago~ She deserved that for not opening her mouth and being stupid! But anyways, he leaves her to the colony and she is sent to live with her uncle, incidentally “also” in the colony.
So here was where the whole story changed and threw me off. I knew Christian was a….privateer of a sort from the beginning and a revolutionist so I knew something was going to be focused around this part of the story but it was just so different. I thought I was reading a totally different story. It went from a revenged filled love story to a pirate smuggler revolutionist story on the run from the law! Plus, Christian was so different from the Christian I was introduced too. Yes, he was heart broken and now back in his Captain role as smuggler and revolutionist but he was just so mean! Yet I liked him because he still had that familiar vibe to him. And Jess deserved his harsh words and treatment.
But Jess was just another story. She just gotten worse. She was even more stupid than I thought she could get. I liked that she got out of her shell now that she’s “ruined” and away from her brother but she’s still so dumb. For example, when she’s arguing with Christian about who gets to sleep on the bed or in the bedroom she would always expect him to do as she says and when he doesn’t, she gets mad and does the opposite of what he has told her and storms off. But then she thinks to herself and says something along the lines of;
“…he should have came after me…he should have given me the bed….he doesn’t care about me at all…“.
Girl, please. You were the one who walked off and was in the wrong and you expect him to be the one to apologize? Sheesh~
But enough about my irritations about Jess, the story just got me brooding through in boredom. I mean Christian was just mean, and mean he was. But he was just trying to teach Jess a lesson in listening to him, he does tell the truth you know, but she just won’t listen because she thought he played her with the bet he did with her brother so he’s not worth trusting.
But a whole lot of stuff went on and yeah, we all knew who the villain was…. But it was just slow going.
Oh should I say this had a fleeting of the bodice-ripper theme in it. Yup, Christian and Jess’s relationship was basically a bodice-ripper read. It was just irritating that she would oppose but loved it and want it all at the same time. I’ll say it was one of those love-hate relationships and every time they “did it” it was just plain and simple anger sex! I felt no love in it sadly, just anger.
But one thing I absolutely hated was that their whole relationship problem was easily solved at once with the fact that Jess finally told Christian she loved him. With those “magical” words everything was pushed aside and fixed automatically between the two! It was just so…unbelievable to me that their whole love-hate relationship could be fixed just like that!
So yes, what did I think of it as a whole? I really didn’t like it. I really just wanted the beginning story of the revenged filled romance and could have done without the other half of the story with the smuggling and stuff. Plus the whole story could have been easily solved with Jess opening her mouth and telling Christian she loved him! That whole misunderstanding between the two wouldn’t have to have happened if she would have just spoken her stupidly mind.
So yeah, I’m not sure what to think but that I’m sorry I didn’t like this as much as I would have liked coming from an author I liked. I hope I will enjoy some of her other works more so I’m not giving up hope on her. -
I have to say that I was quite intrigued during the first portion of the book. And even somewhat into the second portion. Yes, it was fairly typical Regency romance, but there were some interesting little twists. And half of the story takes place in the American colonies. Jessie was a headstrong character, but she was liable enough--quite naive to be sure. I wasn't too keen on Christian, especially during the second half of the book. He seemed to be too proud and sure of himself. I appreciated the humor in the book, and the actual writing of the book was very well done. I think this book had the makings of being a cut above the mediocre Regency romances.
Unfortunately, I found that the second half of the book was somewhat of a disappointment. There was a lot of profanity in the book--I can deal with that to a degree. But the bedroom scenes were way too long and involved, in my opinion. I struggle when the bedroom scenes begin to take over pages and pages of the story. And I felt like Jessie and Christian should have been able to stay out of bed more than they did. They seemed to find themselves wrapped up in each other at the most inopportune times. I found it somewhat unrealistic. Now, I know that is why many love to read these books. I just needed a little more substance, but again, that is only my opinion. Just understand that I am not marking down the book because the elements I listed were in the book. Mainly, I would have preferred a little more action outside of the bedroom, but that is just me.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine. -
Kissed is one of those books that I find annoying and enjoyable at the same time. The annoying part is that the hero and heroine are really bad at communication. So there is constant misunderstanding that leads to hurt feelings and broken hearts for the characters and frustration for the reader. You've all read those kind of books. If that was all that was going on, I would have given this book 2 stars.
However, throwing in a bit more conflict aside outside of the love/hate story as well as the historical setting of the American colonies on the eve of the Revolution, well, that is what makes the story enjoyable. Now we have a real story going and I am at 3 stars.
4 stars - well it is an audiobook! That puts a smile on the whole 'reading' experience. There were a few problems in the audio editing - sentences were repeated in several places. But the narration was enjoyable. If, like me, you enjoy the historical romance/audiobook combination, I can recommend Kissed to you.
Narrator Laurel Schroeder offered a complimentary copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. -
I go back and forth on my star rating decision
This is a standalone, happily ever after love story, second in the Redeemable Rogues series.
The romance between Jessamine and Christian is quite turbulent. I was quite irritated with the internal dialogue of Jessamine and her "loathing" of Christian . Star rating for that would be a 3; The writing and storyline boost it up to a 4. I really like Tanya Anne Crosby's books. -
I truly enjoyed reading this Wonderful Story.
Jessie & Christian were Absolutely Adorable Characters.
Their Journey to HEA was an Adventure. The lies & secrets they held were truly engaging.
A definite reread Book. -
Again an Awsome Read
She never disappoints! Travel from ole England to pre-revolution Americas. First love, ruiened, then love again, thats how this goes. -
Just one word: Intense!
-
Divertente, con una piccola nota di masochismo da parte dei due protagonisti, che preferiscono soffrire, invece di confessare la verità.
-
Enjoyed tremendously!
This was a truly enjoyable romance with two very stubborn people who were meant for each other. Their relationship was filled with misunderstandings and the lies of others that kept them apart for a while but true love always find a way. Definitely a thumbs up for me! -
With its nomination from Romantic Times Magazine as Best Historical, it's not surprising that this book was an enthralling read from start to finish. With a setting not often depicted in books, Kissed sets itself apart from other historical reads and keeps you immersed in its emotional ups and downs and guessing until the final page due to its numerous twists and turns.
Upon first being introduced to Christian it's hard to see him as the hero. There's a request to hire him and have him turn on the woman he's professed to love in the past. From this moment on the road to redemption and a HEA is going to be a rocky one with the line between good and bad a finely drawn one. Christian is a dark character who's been through a lot of emotional turmoil courtesy of a jealous sibling. He's not always done the right thing but upon seeing his lost love Jessie again he wants desperately to be a better man and if anyone can help him do that it's Jessie.
Jessie too has a sibling who will do anything to get what he wants, and what he wants is for her to marry a man of his choosing. She's still in love with Christian though, no matter how hurt she was over their separation she still longs to be with him. She's shed copious amounts of tears over him in the past and will shed more as the story progresses. While I applaud her loyalty there were times I became frustrated by her weepiness and desperately wanted her to get a stronger backbone in regards to the actions done to her. Her undying love and support though is what Christian needs to pull him out of the darkness towards a hard fought but immensely satisfying HEA.
Their times together reek of sexual tension. There's always a sense of foreboding as well, especially with so many and so much going against them which makes their sexual interludes all the more satisfying. Along with a satisfying romance comes numerous twists and turns where no one is as they appear. This keeps you on the edge of your seat guessing until the end while rooting for Christian and Jessie every step of the way. The secondary characters leave a lasting impression as well as their actions add another layer of twists and turns to an already emotionally draining story. From beginning to end Ms. Crosby has created a story with all the elements romance readers have come to expect from her and Kissed is yet another winner in her already long list of successes. -
I absolutely love reading a real good Avon romance! You get the high romance, the willful heroine and the rogue hero who lusts after the woman but finds himself honoring her as well. I love that, and Kissed was perfect example of this. Perfect Historical Romance plot of a virgin, courting gone wrong and a pirate who can't keep his hands of the woman he once lost. Add in the pudgy villain, and we have the perfect scene set for enjoyable Historical Romance!
Gimme a tall, dark and handsome pirate with bad case of lust and love for our heroine! There must be kidnapping of the aforementioned heroine by the sexy pirate. Ah, thank you Ms. Crosby. It's been too long since I read one of these and I was awesome to go back to the bodice rippers. ;) Though if I recall right there wasn't and actual bodice ripped but you get the drift, right?
I loved the title Kissed because it so embodied the book, as we are talking Historical Romance there wasn't premarital sex or even heavy petting so it all starts with a kiss, the romance, the lust, the falling in love. Crosby sure described it perfectly and the kissing kept escalating to more and more intensity until it just had to evolve to touching and that my friends was a hot read!
I truly enjoyed Jessamine's character, she was tough, determined and little bit naive about what happened when it came to lust and a man's reaction to her - which cast Christian to even greater light when he had to bite his lip to not act out of society standards and that made their romance such a fun one to read. Of course when the story developed we got to see Jessamine's scorn of Christian even though she still loved him, she almost slipped so many times with her inability to resist his kiss, priceless. Absolutely love this in a romance novel!
I liked the Kindle cover makeover, it doesn't show much more than something going on in the back alley though, I would have loved a more play with his pirate ways, perhaps a ship and her bit more resistant to her embrace for the cover to really have the book's feel. Or if to go with the couple then there should have a been an estate on the background from the first part of the book for it to click. Gorgeous colors though! -
Oh I do love a tortured hero. I'm not exactly sure why, but I do. And Christian is a shining example of the dark and tortured hero. He's been put through so much, courtesy of his own brother. He used to have the world at his feet, and it was all ripped away from him. Of course he's angry and bitter.
So when the Duke of Westmoor offers him money to break his own sister's heart, who just happens to be Christian's ex-fiancee, Christian jumps at the chance for vengeance.
Christian's plans are scuppered when he meets Jessamine, her innocence and pure heart reach through his defences and he can't hurt her. I loved the time when Christian was 'courting' Jessie, before she find out why he's actually there. They have a very sweet romance developing, it's light with moments of humour, but all the while Christian is battling himself.
Of course, it can't last. Semi-truths, lies and circumstances thrust them apart. A hurt and ruined Jessie is sent to Charlestown, to stay with her Uncle.
It's not long before Jessie and Christian are thrust back together and emotions are high.
They both have rather negative views of the other, but the sexual chemistry between them is as explosive as ever.
I felt Jessie's pain so much, she still loves Christian despite his betrayal. She doesn't want him to know though, and makes sure she uses every opportunity to assure him of her indifference.
I'll try not to give too much away, but events occur that means that Christian and Jessie are in close proximity for an extended period of time. There's danger, and intrigue and the stakes are raised when a jealous rival seeks to ruin Christian.
I loved how Jessie's steadfast love and eventually, her renewed trust had the ability to bring Christian out of his darkness. There were so many obstacles between them, and so many misunderstandings that it was a HEA that was hard fought for. You'll find yourself crying with Jessie, and urging them to their wonderfully rewarding happy ending.
I'm looking forward to reading more from Tanya Anne Crosby!

AudioBook Review:
Stars: Overall 4 Narration 5 Story 3
A Georgian era romance that starts in England and ends up in Charleston that focuses on the on again—off again betrothal between third son Christian and Jessamyn Stone pawn of the brother who holds the title and determines her future. Christian is the third son and far out of the succession. Not independently wealthy, his future fortunes laid in his mother’s bequest, and when that didn’t happen, Jessamyn’s brother, who has arranged a more fortuitous match.
These two are bound to cross purposes almost from the start, and their lack of communication or basic honesty and the anger Christian holds for Jessamyn, even KNOWING that her life and choices are not her own were just over the top. Too often his anger or their inability to pass two honest sentences between them was an oft repeated and far too overplayed element of the story. BOTH of them need to be blind and stupid to not see the attraction between them, or to realize that they are in love. And unfortunately, while Christian does NOT have to make any more statements than I love you for Jessamyn to disregard all of his nasty, demeaning and often duplicitous behavior to come running. But, it was entertaining and enjoyable, with a nice sense of time, place and political agendas of the age.
Narration by Laurel Schroeder made this AudioBook work for me and enhanced the enjoyment of a fairly predictable story. She manages to distinguish different characters with small changes in her delivery and pitch, and she doesn’t seem to strain over the more masculine voices. While there were some odd repeats in the story that were entirely production related: Schroeder’s delivery and performance would encourage me to seek out more of her work.
I received an AudioBook copy of the title via AudioBook Jukebox for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility. -
This is a well written novel about a young girl who fell in love with her betrothed and would never accept another no matter how advantageous the marriage would be. It did not hurt that the man her brother chose was not a very good man to begin with add to that the fact that he was old enough to be her father only made him more an appealing.
Jessie had to fight until the end to get what she wanted. At times I thought surely there is someone more worthy but Jessie stayed true to herself even when Christian made things very difficult. I also thought Jessie was a bit whinny but I suppose it was a part of her character.
Christian was an emotionally damaged young man. He did not trust easily and revenge was his primary goal throughout most of this story. He found it difficult to trust in Jessie's feelings and was to easily swayed against what he knew deep down to be true.
I did not much care for Christian throughout this book and in the end I thought it was to late for redemption. However, this is an historical romance and nothing ever came easy for women back then so it was not so far fetched.
Laurel did a good job of Narrating this book. Her accents were done quite well. The authors voice came through her narration rather smoothly. She switched back and forth between character smoothly.
I recommend this book to Historical romance lovers who can't get enough of damaged heroes and stubborn heroines. If you like Audible books and want to listen then you might consider the Audible version.

I have read all of Ms. Crosby's highland books and LOVED every single one. While waiting for the next Guardian book to come out, I decided to give her back list a try. I found this book via a book bub recommendation.
It just wasn't for me. The writing was good and the plot had promise. But, I found Jessamine aka Jessie to be one of the most annoying heroines I have ever read. She cried, she got angry, she couldn't speak and at times she was too stupid to live. Christian was not much better - but, just when I was ready to toss the book, he admitted that he hadn't been with a woman since he met Jessie - and I decided he was finish the book worthy.
This book seemed like it could have gone several different ways, that I might have found more interesting, but it never seemed to pick a theme ( we had several to choose from - revenge, piracy, big misunderstanding, bad guy who wants the girl, etc. ) But instead of picking one and going with it - we got all of those, but none of them really took the lead. It just felt incomplete.
It honestly pains me to give a book by Ms. Crosby a 3 star rating - but this book was not want I have become accustom to from this author. She can and has written better books, she is gifted story teller and a great writer. I can only assume this is an early work and she hadn't hit her stride yet.
If you haven't read her highland brides or her guardian series - skip this book and read those!! -
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Kissed written by Tanya Anne Crosby and narrated by Laurel Schroeder. The story is well written and one of the best Georgian romances I’ve ever read or listened to (which admittedly are not very many). The story begins in England, where the two main characters are engaged. Jessie loves Christian, but when his father dies leaving him penniless, Jessie’s father breaks off the engagement. After her father dies, Jessie wants to win back Christian’s affections, but her efforts are undermined by her devious brother who wants her sold off to the highest bidder. Rather than continuing with her brother's abuses, Jessie goes to live with her cousin in the American colonies. Along the way, she meets a masked pirate who seduces her, and after arriving in America she runs into Christian. The rest of the story is how they learn to trust each other and they eventually fall in love with once more.
Laurel Schroeder's narration was excellent. She had good distinguishable voices for all the characters, especially for Christian whom she portrayed in a very believable masculine way (he was swoon-worthy!). I enjoyed her narration so much that I’ve rated this book with 4 stars because she made an otherwise average book that much more enjoyable. I received an Audible copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. -

This was an interesting book set just before the outbreak of the Revolutionary War. We begin in England, where Christian is hired by Jessamine's nasty brother to break her heart. The "why" of this turns out to be the real story. Jess and Christian were once betrothed, but when his nasty brother cheats him out of his inheritance, the contract is nullified. Christian agrees to break her heart for revenge, but Jess thinks he is there to save her from marrying the even nastier nan her brother wants her to marry. They fall in love, but a series of half-truths, outright lies and basic mistrust thrust them apart. Enter the Colonies, where all parties but the nasty brothers continue the story.
I enjoyed this book, though parts of it were a little slow for me. There are some editing problems with the audiobook, where the same section are repeated, but the narration is very well done. I was able to differentiate between characters. Laurel Schroeder uses slight inflection changes to differentiate and does not try to turn her female voice into a baritone, which really appreciated.
I have always enjoyed Tanya Crosby novels, and I have discovered a new narrator to watch for. -
Kissed, written by Tanya Anne Crosby, is an enjoyable historical romance primarily set in the American colonies before the American Revolution. The story centers around Jessamine Stone who has never gotten over her onetime fiance Christian Haukinge. She wants to win back Christian, but her efforts are undermined by her devious brother who only views her as property to be sold to the highest bidder. After an ugly showdown with her brother, Jesse goes to live with a cousin in the colonies to mend her broken heart. The rest of the story is about Jesse and Christian slowly coming to realize they are soulmates and can't live without the other.
The story is well written and better than most Regency romances. However, the love scenes were just too graphic for me (it seems to be a trend these days). I also found myself fast forwarding through the bedroom scenes because they were too long and involved. But the story itself was refreshing and unlike other Regency books out there. It was nice not having to suffer through one more ball of the ton!
Laurel Schroeder's narration was enjoyable. She had good inflections and tone, giving distinguishable voices for all the characters. Simply put, I'd listen to another one of her narrations any time. -
This was a delightful romance between two strong-willed and prideful people - Jessamine "Jessie" and Christian "Hawk". You will be swept back in time when true love paid no part in marriage pacts. A time when love blossomed innocently without much coaxing! Where passion couldn't be denied no matter how great the cost! I loved every beautiful descriptive moment of their story! This was the first book I read by Tanya Anne Crosby and it most certainly won't be my last!!
-
I am not a fan of the genre, but having made friends with the lovely and charming Ms. Crosby, I accepted an autographed copy and sat down for the drudgery of reading it.
I was pleasantly surprised. Crisp, flowing writing, well written, if familiar, characters, and a gift for pacing set this award-winning romance novelist apart from the pack (at least as I would imagine the pack). -
Another Great Book by Tanya Anne Crosby.
Tanya wrote a Wonderful Story with Adventure, Danger & Romance which I truly enjoyed reading.
Christian & Jessamine's Story is so Wonderful even with all the conflict & confusion of what has been hidden such as Secrets they try to fight their emotions the entire time. -
Kissed a very good read
I really enjoyed this story. It held my interest and had enough suspense to keep me guessing as to what was coming next. The characters were developed completely and all held your interest.
