Suspense, action, red hot passion, and a kick ass hero! This read was awesome!
The story is about, good looking , I will save you from all danger hero and special agent, Nick.Coming back to his home town for a funeral he does not have any plans to be thrown head first into a encounter with his ex fiancée Libby.
She broke his heart and she and his broken heart needs to stay in the past, it is just better that way. But when Libby 's life is threatened by a serial killer she kind of has no choice but to ask Nick to save her, and the protection comes at a high cost.
Not only did this read have loads of action enough to make Die Hard look like some weak chick flick but it had so much more awesome reading goodness that was definitely way better!
I loved the main characters both really very much. Both strong willed, set in their ways and the fact that Libby had a secret as to just why she left Nick made the tension so very good! And I mean really good, as in ladies you will not be able to put this one down, heck you will be tossing and turning at night with curiosity!
Seriously do not start reading this book late at night , you will end up tired the next day, but ok at least you will be highly impressed, but you will still be sleep deprived, as trust me once you start this one there is no way you will want to stop!
Being a new author to me and not having read any of Natalie's books before I was and still am very honoured to have picked up this read as it is one that will stay with me as one of the best romantic suspense's of our time.
The author really packed her heart and soul into this one, I could feel the emotions pouring out at me as reader, and it left me mind blown!
I highly recommend this read for all those out there that love loads of action with their romance.
5/5 star review
"Seven suspenseful, sexy, sensual , serial killer days of romance" -
The blurb made this book sound good but when it came down to it, I found it to have so much waste potential. H/h apparently were together for YEARS but it didn't really sound like it, if it meant there relationship was so shallow that she couldn't tell him she was infertile or he didn't even think of her when he wanted to move. Honestly, h/H were selfish asses and I didn't feel the love or chemistry between them. H had been in love with her for over twenty years, yup TWENTY and despite how she behaved towards him stays back to protect her. While the h was horrible! She was a total daddy's girl who judged hero for his humble beginnings, allowed her dad to manipulate and set the course of her life and was basically a selfish and mean person. I don't think she deserved the hero.

I really enjoyed this book. It had action, suspense, and romance. Libby and Nick was engaged to get married a few years ago. Libby thought it would be better to let Nick go so he could have the life he deserved. She never told him Why. 3 years later, Libby is a target of a serial killer, and Nick comes back to protect her. He is still carrying around the hurt. Libby can’t bear to tell him why, or that she still loves him. When both Nick, and Libby are put into a life or death situation they both realize the mistakes they made, and they know they both love each other, and can’t live without one another. This is one book I didn’t want to put down. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, and I’m glad they found out who the villain was at the end.

This Suspense novel has an interesting plot. There is a serial killer, who leaves clues each day and on The Seventh Day he kills his Target. As one reads through this novel, you find yourself wondering when the next clue will appear. And will the Hero & Heroine solve the case before the killer strikes again. The story had me guessing for a while. While I was able to figure out who the killer was early in the story, It did not take way from this being a good read. The author did a good job of casting doubt on everyone. Who would you trust? And who would you suspect? The killer has his sights set on Libby Andrews.
Libby Andrews Prosecuting Attorney for the town of Arbor Falls. When Libby learned devastating news about herself, she broke her engagement to Nick, breaking his heart by telling him she didn't love him. She let Nick Foster go, thinking she was doing what was best for him. Hoping he would find someone who could make him happy.
FBI agent Nick Foster first fell in love with Libby Andrews when he met her in Eighth grade. And there has been no other love for him. He has moved on with the FBI and made a career for himself. Three years later he has come back to Arbor Falls to attend a funeral . He is hoping to be in and out of Town before being spotted.
As Nick is preparing to leave town he is contacted by his long time friend and ex partner Police Officer Domingo Vasquez. Dom tells Nick of a murder and that Libby's life is in danger. Nick will not leave Arbor Falls until the killer is caught. He is able to talk Libby into letting him protect her. Thrown back together in this gripping suspenseful novel. Where you are wise to trust no one! And they have just Seven days to save Libby! -
Meet Nick Foster. An abused child from a broken home, he pulled himself up by his shoelaces and made a respectable career in law enforcement. Meet Libby Andrews. A respected judge's daughter, from the elite layer of society. A dedicated lawyer and a fireball in the courtroom. She's out of Nick's league. But she wasn't always. He'd adored her since childhood and they had even been engaged. Until one day Libby told Nick she didn't love him any more.
But right now Libby's facing a crisis of a lifetme. Her father has just died and her sister has given birth to a baby boy, but faces the world alone. And she's being stalked by someone who bares the hallmark of a brutal serial killer. Can Nick protect the woman he love from a stalker who seems to be able to walk through walls and locked doors?
Natalie Charles is the winner of the 2011 Harlequin Mills and Boon New Voices competition. I entered that too and sank without trace. Natalie won and I'm not in the least surprised. She's fantastically talented. I mean, how else do you describe an author who can scare you witless one minute and have you sighing in contentment the next? In the same novel? That's what takes major writing talent.
If you like scary romantic suspense, grab your copy of this but a word of warning. Do not open this if you're alone in the house. -
THE SEVEN-DAY TARGET by Natalie Charles is a Harlequin Romantic Suspense releasing in April 2013.
Elizabeth Andrews had broken off her relationship with Nick and had tried to move on. Yet here he was telling her that she was the target of a serial killer.
Could she accept his help now? After all she had secrets she wanted hidden from Nick. And the chemistry between them still sizzled. The attraction was still there.
THE SEVEN-DAY TARGET’s premise is exciting and the story keeps you involved from the very first page. The danger of a serial killer always a step ahead is very real. And the ticking clock keeps the story fast paced and thrilling.
Natalie Charles brought a steamy tale that sparkles with plenty of sizzle, sensuality, emotions, passion and mesmerizing romance. A gripping tale of second chances, past secrets and unexpected attractions. -
What a fabulous, romantic suspense book!
I can see why Natalie Charles won the 2011 Harlequin Mills and Boon New Voices competition. Natalie has an engaging voice and I was drawn into the lives of these likeable characters right away. I was anxious to find out why Libby broke up with Nick and wanted to see them together. I'm a sucker for a hero who's a self-made success. Nick Foster is everything you want in a hero, and I loved that he wanted to protect her, even though they weren't together anymore.
This book had the perfect mix of suspense and romance. Lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. The suspense was well done and I could only read this during the day, because I'm a wimp!
I definitely look forward to reading more from Natalie Charles! -
Good book with lots of suspense. I ended up liking both Nick and Libby, though I had problems with Libby at first. Nick has returned to his hometown to attend the funeral of Libby's father. He has no plans to see or speak to her. But when his former partner on the police force called to tell him that Libby is the target of a deadly stalker, Nick decides to stick around to protect her.
I preferred Nick to Libby. He came to town to pay his respects to Libby's father, even though they had never gotten along. Three years after their breakup he had started to understand that he had only been doing what he thought was best for his daughter. Even so, Libby had been rather mean in the breakup, so he doesn't understand his compulsion to protect her. I liked the way that he wanted to clear the air between them and even admitted to himself that their problems hadn't been all her fault. I enjoyed the way that they worked together to try to figure out who was trying to kill her. It gave them the opportunity to get to know each other as they are now.
Libby was really hard to like at the beginning. She appeared to be very judgmental and rather snobby. I didn't like the way she was so cold to Nick at their first meeting. Even when he and Dom explained the danger she was in she didn't want to believe it and resisted the idea that she needed protection. Even when she was convinced she tried to keep distance between her and Nick. We finally got so learn why she broke things off with Nick and that she still has feelings for him. I started to like her a little better after that but still feel like she wasn't giving him enough credit.
The suspense itself was excellent. It seemed that no matter what they did the stalker was one step ahead of them. There were a couple really interesting twists in this story that really kept me turning the pages. I thought I knew who did it, then something would happen to make me doubt it, then I was sure again. It definitely kept me turning the pages. I look forward to reading more from this new author. -
Wow! Loved every page!
This is the first Harlequin Romantic Suspense I have read and I have to say DO NOT read it curled up on the couch by yourself in the dark... I was continuously peeking up at every little creak I heard, The Seven-Day Target was THAT good!!!
FBI Special Agent Nick has returned to 'lil 'ole Arbor Falls, his hometown and unfortunately hometown of his one and only true love, Libby. His ex police partner has found a body and wants to talk to Nick. Before he can blink Nick is forced back into Libby's life and charged with keeping her safe from what appears to be the Arbor Falls Strangler. Libby is none too pleased about this strange twist her life has taken and for many reasons needs to stay away from Nick.
My heart accelerated as I sped my way thru the gripping twists and turns I was taken on with The Seven Day Target. I was engaged from page one. Reading it in the dark certainly enhanced my experience. I loved the innovative twist at the end. Nick and Libby are extremely likable and I felt their hidden pain for each other and past wrongs. All the extra characters that were woven into the story were all purposeful and the story flowed flawlessly.
The Seven-Day Target delivered what it promised: Romantic Suspense! My hearty congratulations are also sent Natalie's way... as per the front cover... winner of the 2011 New Voices competition. -

Nick Foster and Libby Andrews seem to have moved on from their broken engagement. Libby is an attorney, and Nick now works as an FBI agent in another town. However, when Nick comes back to attend the funeral of Libby's father, he learns that Libby is the target of a serial killer. Despite their past, Nick will do everything in his power to protect Libby and help discover who is behind the plot.
I don't tend to be an avid reader of this genre, but I decided to give this one a shot because of the mystery/suspense plotline. Although there were a few interesting twists, I ultimately had trouble believing many of the characters and the actions that they took. I do not claim to be an expert on criminal investigations, but I would think that the police would assign better protection for a serial killer's target than allowing her to go into hiding with an ex-fiancé (who isn't technically assigned to the job)- especially after the guy that is supposed to be watching her . Libby isn't even doing a very good job of hiding- she is playing a very active role in the investigation itself. I found that Libby's sister Cassie, and Dom, another officer, weren't very believable characters, as they put their pride far ahead of Libby's safety. Libby's lack of caution didn't exactly help either.
I didn't notice anything particularly innovative about the romantic storyline. Two attractive people with a history together (and unfortunate childhoods- one with cancer and the other with child abuse) find themselves working together in the face of danger and rediscover the chemistry they had. It isn't necessarily a bad thing, I just didn't find it memorable. In addition, the romantic dialogue felt slightly stilted: for instance, lines like "You make me want to be a better man", "I can't live without you", "You're all I've ever wanted", and "I've always loved you" in extremely close proximity made the scene feel a bit cliché.
Random sidenote: I do not understand how the catchphrase relates to this book- "Love Never Dies, But Can It Kill"?
Overall, this was a fast-paced and interesting addition to the Harlequin romances. Personally, I wasn't sold on the story, but if romance is your genre of choice, don't be afraid to give this a try.
I received an ARC of this through the Goodreads First Reads program. This has not influenced my opinions about the book in any way. -

Ehhoo (DAMN IT MARIA! WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?! THIS IS HOW YOU START YOUR FIRST EVER POST?! God damn it you are lucky you are upstairs!
Love Fatman)
The breakdown
About a girl (Libby) and a guy (Nick, who is a special agent).
She dumps him because she can’t have babies.
He comes back to save her from a murderer.
They fall in love again.
The characters were well constructed and I enjoyed how most of their thoughts were in sync, like true soul mates. The raw love they share for each other is both physical and mental. Throughout the book they realize their mistakes and how the influence of other people in there life originally tore them apart.
Besides just the complications of love, there were a few action scenes. They were very welcome but were very quick and not in depth. The plot was very weak if you look at it from the suspense point of view. It was predictable as to the answers to who and what was going on was easy to guess.
There yea go Dad!
(DAMN IT!? MARIA WTF IS THIS TYPE OF A SIGN OFF?! – Love Fatman)
This was sent to us as a Goodreads First Reads Winner! It is signed by Natalie Charles so thanks to her for sending it out. Maria would like to say that she is looking for love scenes (god, I don’t know why or want to.) So if there are any suggestions for someone under 18. Please forward them on. Thanks!

I love suspense books as much as romance, and this book was a perfect blend of the two. I also have a particular interest in reunion stories, and this was a beautifully written book about second chances.
Libby and Nick are reunited when Nick is asked to protect her from a serial killer who sends six clues over six days and kills on the seventh. Forced to spend time together, Nick and Libby's history is slowly brought to light, revealing a painful and touching secret that ultimately tore them apart. The pacing of this book was excellent, and the gripping suspense woven through the love story perfectly underscored the growing tension in their relationship.
This book was the winner of Mills & Boon's New Voices contest and this should come as a surprise to no one. The writing and storytelling is unique, smart, and sharp. An excellent read. -
My wife wrote this book. I obviously have a bias. I loved this book. It is a page turner. Natalie manages to keep the suspense alive from start to finish. The result is a very enjoyable read. I hope you read this book. I hope you enjoy it is much as I did.
