BOOK TWO: The Stolen Bride Series

Surrender never tasted so sweet…

Highland warrior, Blane Sutherland, has one mission: disguise himself as an Englishman, cross the border and retrieve Lady Aliah de Mowbray. Always up for a challenge, he agrees, pursuing his conquest with vigor—and trying to deny the powerful desire that eclipses him each time he touches his charge. A rogue of the highest order and a younger son, he has nothing to offer a lady but a broken heart.

Aliah is skeptical of the English noble who has come to take her to her father and sister in Scotland, but she pushes her doubts aside. Without word in months, she must make certain her family is safe, then she can return to England to join the convent she has sworn to pledge her life. But then her escort reveals his true self—he’s a Highlander and his kisses are more seductive than the sweetest of wines.

What is a Highlander to do when he falls for the daughter of his enemy? And what is a lady to do when she cannot trust her heart?

The Highlander's Conquest (Stolen Bride, #2) Reviews

  • Zoe

I give up. I have the feeling that I need to be 15 years old to enjoy the book.

  • Cherie

Starting to get annoyed with the overuse of the phrase "Where did that thought come from?".

The heroine was intent on becoming a nun because she thought she had no business getting married and having children due to the fact she killed her mother, in childbirth. However, the chit was passionate and horny from the beginning. Which was, of course, his fault for being so manly.

The hero was a nice guy but kept admonishing himself for taking liberties he had no business taking while continuing to take liberties. Actually, the two of them went back and forth between ignoring each other and indulging in liberties to the extent I got seasick reading it. His secret was having watched his parents be killed by a mixed group of English and Scots when he was 14 and since he was unable to save his parents, he considers himself the lowliest of men. Geez.

Could have been a really good story but I caught myself yawning and not caring whether these two got a HEA.

    The Highlander’s Conquest
    By: Eliza Knight

Ever since I read the words “The End” on The Highlander’s Reward, I’ve been waiting for the second book in Eliza Knight’s Stolen Bride series. That is precisely why I bought it the day it was released. I was not disappointed.

Blane Sutherland, younger brother to the Laird of Sutherland, is sent to fetch the Laird’s new wife’s sister from England. Since Blane has been passing himself off as an Englishman for years while he sold the Sutherland wool to England, he is the obvious choice to bring the girl to her sister.

Aliah de Mowbray is no shrinking violet. Even though she’s been protected all her life, and plans to vow her life to the church, when the chips are down, she can handle a bow and arrow, much to Blane’s surprise.

As they continue their dangerous journey from England to Scotland, Blane fears the biggest danger to him is losing his heart, and Aliah begins to second guess her decision to enter the church.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Higlander’s Conquest. Blane and Aliah are a delightful couple, and their pull toward each other kept me turning the pages. Ms. Knight has done it again with vivid details, strong characters, and an engaging story. I strongly recommend The Highlander’s Conquest, and if you haven’t yet read the first book, The Highlander’s Reward, do yourself a favor, and get that one, too.

The Highlander’s Conquest is book two in the Stolen Bride series and once again I have to say that I REALLY enjoyed yet another wonderful Scottish romance by Eliza Knight.

Eliza writes Scottish historical romances just the way I like them. The story line was fast paced and had some exciting action.

At the end of The Highlander’s Reward, Magnus and Arbella send Blane, Magnus’s brother, to England to fetch Aliah, Arbella’s sister, and bring her to join them at Dunrobin, their castle in Scotland. In order to get Aliah to come with him, Blane has to pretend to be English knowing that Aliah would not go with him unless he did. When he arrives he has to convince Aliah that he is there to take her to her sister and father who are in Scotland. Right away we find out that Aliah is no pushover, and she has her bow in hand and is aiming her arrow at Blane’s heart. After a short talk, a forged letter to Aliah asking her to please come quickly with Blane to Scotland from her father, Aliah decides to trust Blane and they depart. This story revolves around the journey they take getting to the Highlands. On their way they face plenty of danger which had the story moving along and interesting. They also become more attracted to each other as the days pass. Soon enough they can’t deny the passion they have for each other and the heat kicks up full throttle. The love scenes were VERY sensual, once again left me all hot and bothered.

I really liked both Blane and Aliah, they were both excellent characters, as were all of the secondary characters that were part of the story. I loved that this book also included Magnus and Arbella and gave a glimpse into how they were doing.

The ending was very good and ended on a happy note.

Overall I’m very glad that I got a chance to read and review the first two books in this series. As a matter of fact, I am SO invested that I already bought the next 4 books and plan to read them when I can fit them in. Some readers have said that you can read these books as stand alone, but I think you really should read them in order. I HIGHLY recommend that if you are a lover of a good steamy Scottish romance that you should give these books a try.

*This book was gifted to me fore an honest review.*

  • The Book Junkie Reads . . .

Ailah and Blane have one deep hurtful common belief . . .
Oh my yes, yes, yesssssssssssssss. I got my hands on another sexy alpha highlander that knew exactly how to make a girl very, very happy. Surrender in his hands may not have tasted any sweeter but the dreams afterwards will stay with me much longer than the sweetness of sugar. Ailah did not really have a chance once Blane set his sights on her. The vivid description allowed for me to follow the journey clearly in my mind with nothing lost in translation. I loved that. The commonality that they have makes for an interesting turn in event as we watch them get to know each other and then fall in love.

I can always anticipate a good read when captivate by one of Eliza Knight’s highland rogues. I get laugh, steamy passion, unbridled heat, and a good set of characters and plotlines. I found that no different with this read. Ailah and Blane were good together and not together.

This one was a sweet and short one (240 pages or so). Not complicated but fun to read. I enjoyed the back and forth banters between the MCs. They complement each other well. An uptight English lass paired with a handsome, warrior Highlander. What more could you ask?
No angst but somehow I liked it.

  • CC

It was ok. I was just bored too often.

  • Jason

A really fun read, both hero and heroine are fun characters.

The Highlander’s Conquest by Eliza Knight is the second in The Stolen Bride series and I enjoyed this one just as much as I did The Highlander’s Reward. Once again I listened to the audiobook narrated by Corrie James who is fast becoming a favorite of mine. She just has such a great voice and perfectly acts out all the different nuances of her characters. While these books are part of a series it’s important to note that they would stand alone quite well.

In The Highlander’s Conquest Blane Sutherland has been tasked with bringing Lady Aliah de Mowbray to Scotland to be with her sister Arbella and their father. He disguises himself as an Englishman and presents Aliah with a missive from her father requesting that she go with him. Needing to know that her sister and father are safe and well she agrees. Needless to say that when Blane reveals himself to be a highlander Aliah is incensed and takes action. Now I’m not going to say what action but I will say it was very funny.

Aliah is a little spitfire like her sister Arbella and can certainly take care of herself despite having been sheltered her whole life. Just give her a bow and arrow and she’ll enlighten you. However she’s vowed to give her life over to God and the church and yet she can’t deny the ever awakening desires of her body. Could it be love? For Blane who is as roguish as they come he feels a powerful attraction to Aliah but his older brother Magnus would kill him for going near her. Blane has never really cared for a woman but somehow Aliah is working her way into his heart. There is nothing to do but push her away as he is most definitely not good enough for such a sweet soul as Aliah. Will they end up together or not?

Who can resist a highlander? Especially the Sutherland men. That’s what I say. Eliza’s books are such a sweet escape for a few hours! They are fun, sweet, sexy, and great to listen to! I thoroughly enjoyed the first two in the series and full intend to enjoy the rest as well! As a note there is a lot of hanky panky going on for my readers who just aren’t into that. If you are though and enjoy a good historical romance check out Eliza Knight’s books and enjoy!

I loved this story--Mainly because you have two very strong leads who are bound to fall deeply in love. Despite the imminent war and animosity between their countries, Scottish Warrior Blane Sutherland and Lady Aliyah De Mowbray find that they are unable to fight against the pull that makes their love inevitable.

Both of these characters are fabulous and intriguing. Blane is a master of disguise. It all starts out as Blane's brother, Laird Magnus Sutherland entrusts him with the mission of bringing Lady Aliyah out of English to the Highlands at the request of his wife Lady Arbella. Lady Arbella is worried about her sister's safety and Magnus will do anything to please his wife. So, since Magnus, a fierce laird and warrior is whooped, well his brother Blane is bound to also become ensnared by the beautiful lady in his charge who Arbella's sister.

The development of the relationship between Blane & Lady Aliyah was great! There were very sweet, steamy & then funny moments between the two. I like how this author creates equally strong male and female leads.

The aspect that I think is cute is how the guys always are respectful toward the ladies and wait until they are ready instead of pushing themselves on them (both Magnus & Blane)..haha. That is what I refer as the "teasing love" part of this book. For the majority of the book Blane and Aliyah are constantly falling into each other's embraces despite the extensive mental effort they make to keep their hands to themselves. Blane & Lady Aliyah's love is such a tease because their bodies can't seem to stay away from each other....lol Yet, they don't consummate their love until close to the end of the book.

I have to say that there are some solutions that come a little too easy, such as the English father accepting both his daughter's marriage to Scottish enemies, but hey...who cares this is fantasy, right?

Great narrator....she is so smooth. Very enjoyable listen on my long commute.

When I saw the second book was about Magnus' brother, Blane, and Arbella's sister,Aliah, I had to read it right away! It was another great Scottish Highlander story!

Blane is sent to England to fetch Aliah to bring her to join them at Dunrobin in Scotland. In order to get Aliah to come with him, Blane has to pretend to be English knowing that Aliah would not go with him otherwise. We find out that Aliah is no pushover as she aims her bow and arrow at Blane’s heart until Blane shows her a forged letter from her father asking her to please come quickly with Blane to Scotland so she decides to trust him. The story revolves around their journey to the Highlands which includes plenty of danger which kept the story interesting and moving along quickly. They also become more attracted to each other as the days pass.

I really liked Blane and Aliah, and all of the secondary characters as well. I loved that Magnus and Arbella were also included so we got caught up on how they were doing.

  • Kari

I really love this author's descriptions, you feel as if you're right there with the characters. It was also nice to catch up with Arbella and Magnus from the first book Highlander's Reward. Look forward to reading more by this author.

  • Carolyn

    Thoroughly enjoyable read. :)

I jumped into this series without reading the first book. I always enjoy romance books from series that can be read separately from one another. In general the book was well-written, I just didn’t feel very connected to the MCs. Besides their main character background that set up chunks of the plot (she felt unnecessarily guilty about “killing” her mother when she was born so she planned to punish herself/repent by becoming a nun while he wanted to get revenge on the men responsible for his parents’ deaths) we didn’t get anything deeper really. Everyone was pretty one dimensional. These life missions/ inflicts, if you will, we’re also very easily resolved at the end, and really didn’t have much impact on the plot until it was convenient. Because of all this, I wasn’t committed to their “relationship”. For such a long book, the characters spoke relatively little, at least about anything of particular substance or insight. Their relationship struck me more as companionship and mild sexual attraction more than love. Though it does drive me a little batty in general that nearly every romance book ends with the characters making a big deal out of being “in love” (or on a stupid cliffhanger which later leads to them falling/declaring their love). It would be nice to read a book that mixes it up a little. I still haven’t come across a romance book where the MCs don’t end up together. If anyone knows of one, please I’m all ears.

This book was pretty meh for me overall. Kinda long, not particularly exciting, but not horrible either.

The Highlander's Conquest (Stolen Bride #2) by Eliza Knight is a fantastic Medieval Scottish Romance set in England and Scotland. While, #2, it can be read as a stand alone. If you've not had a chance to read "The Highlander’s Reward", #1, I'd definitely suggest reading it as well, as this is the story of Blane Sutherland, younger brother to the Laird of Sutherland, who disguises himself as an Englishman to sale the Sutherland's wool in England. So when it became necessary to retrieve his brother's wife's younger sister, of course, Blane was the man to cross the border and retrieve her, bring her to Scotland to reunite with her sister and father, who had been wounded. Lady Aliah de Mowbray, is feisty, doesn't trust the barbarian Scots, beautiful, she’s been protected all her life, and plans to vow her life to the church, but when danger persists, she shows Blane she can handle a bow and arrow, just like her sister. Aliah and Blane are a wonderful couple, one who deserves their HEA, their pull toward each other kept me turning the pages, from the beginning to the end.

I thoroughly enjoyed "The Higlander’s Conquest". Ms. Knight has done it again with her vivid details, her strong characters, and her engaging story. I strongly recommend "The Highlander’s Conquest". What a great read by Eliza Knight!!

In short, it's a copy of "The Highlander's Reward" plot, but with a bit different characters. The next scottish brother and the next english sister.
Blane is more hesitant than Magnus (though as passionate as his brother).
Aliah is a reserved one compared to her sister Arbella.
Both have some demons from the past that haunt them and both overcome it.

    I rate 4* because:

    1) I absolutely loved the previous book and i didn't mind to read smth like that again haha

2)I love the "brothers fall for sisters" trope, because it makes the stories all the more enjoyable! You can see both the similarities in wooing, as well as differences and feel, perhaps, a part of a warm family too. Also, the funny moments where brothers discuss their beloved in their aloof manly fashion, while sisters do the same but feminine)))

    My cup of tea.

Aliah thought she had her life all planned out. Blane is on a quest to revenge his parents' death. Under false pretenses, Blane takes Aliah on a traveling adventure from England to Scotland to reunite with her sister and father. What they didn't expect was the powerful attraction between them and even though both know it's wrong, they can't resist the heated passions that brings them together. Amidst the danger surrounding them, love blossoms and all well laid plans are put aside.

Well written with very charismatic characters and lots of action make this story a very enjoyable read.

The writing was really good BUT Aliah annoyed me at some parts. This would have been 4 stars if she behaved more maturely. I think I'm a bit Magnus biased just because I read him first. Blane was okay, he isn't my type of Hero. I wanted him to claim the heroine directly with no hesitations but he didn't. He was unsure most of the time and I understood that he was thinking about his morals but.... meh. Idk. I'm excited for Daniel's story tho!!!!

This was such an exciting journey. Blane and Aliah were well matched. I loved Aliah's strength. Her inner dialogue showed her fears and hopes. Blane was a strong warrior and a caring lover. The journey held problems at every turn that kept the story interesting. I was finally glad to have them find a home.

  • Natalie

So I had a feeling the second book would be better than the first. The first one seemed very much like a new author getting their footing, and she starts to play more with the tropes of the “highland warrior” book series and it was solidly enjoyable. I am halfway through the next and enjoying it even more, so hopefully the trend continues.
