Hungary is one single wine-growing region − every square kilometre of our country is suitable for wine-growing. The soil, the climate, the number of sunny hours and the quantity of precipitation all contribute to the success of Hungarian winemaking with rich traditions and a wealth of expertise in every corner of the country. Hungarian winemaking has all the prerequisites of being among the best of the world. Wine is more than a simple agricultural produce. It employs people, retains jobs, transforms the landscape, enlivens commerce, yields tourism income and creates affiliations. Therefore we should think of wine as one of the key factors of domestic economy. Wine is just as important as science or art and, at higher levels, works just the same way: it returns gold in exchange for our forints paid in taxes.
The Wonderful Hungarian Wine Reviews

Great pictures. Did I tell you this book has nice photos? I expected a nice commentary about the various wine regions in Hungary with some good history to boot. But I was a bit disappointed. The content did not flow - descriptions of a region were interlaced with editorials on why Hungary's wine has not been able to gain international prestige or why the government has failed to adequately help the industry. The translation to English was also very poor. Like running your fingernails on a chalkboard at times. Just difficult to read. Again, a nice coffee table photo book but not much else.
