The Nine. Scattered across the Indian Territory. US Marshal Caleb Maddox has been warned against going after them.

After a brutal train robbery by the Harvey Gang leaves his best friend dead, Caleb is determined to bring the nine outlaws to justice.

Led by Cutter Ray Harvey, robbing that train was just another day’s work for him and his eight desperados. And leaving the innocent dead? A regular occurrence.

With the sting of his friend’s death still fresh, Caleb hunts the nine outlaws in their hideouts across the Indian Territory and takes them all down. One by one.

But after finding the first of the gang, the US Marshal discovers an unexpected victim.

Hannah Blaine. A runaway bride that isn’t supposed to be on that train. A woman destined for a life of hardship.

With little more than a Colt between the two of them, Caleb and Hannah’s plans start to intertwine. Caleb must now navigate a deadly game in the harsh western landscape without bringing Hannah into further danger.

Can Caleb Maddox find and destroy The Nine? Or will Cutter Ray Harvey get to Caleb and Hannah first?

Another classic western with respectful romance and women as strong frontier folk from author William Black.

Each book in the American Post-Civil War Westerns series is a standalone story that can be read out of order.

The Nine (American Post-Civil War Westerns) Reviews

  • NANCY WADE

    Western morality tale

Interesting characters fight evil in the west, Hannah and Caleb fight outlaws and befriend Indians during their mission to find justice. Good story plot but very formal and stilted dialogue did not sound natural.

This story is action-packed, and that's what kept me going. I wanted to see how the main character, US Marshal Caleb Maddox would accomplish his goal of getting the 9 Outlaws. He did this with the help of a young woman who the outlaws had kidnapped during a train robbery. One of the main things I liked was Caleb's strong moral code. The other was the spunkiness of Hannah Blaine.

But the truth is the story was not well written, language was sometimes confusing, or word usage was wrong. So the manuscript needed to be more closely edited-- for more than typos.

    Good read

A U.S. Marshal is tasked with finding nine outlaws who robbed a train and kidnapped a young woman. He must also return all the stolen loot. The journey is long and bloody but successful.

  • Barb Nifong

    great Western

    I enjoyed reading their adventures.
It was told in a simplistic, forthright manner…..Good vs evil.
The characters were developed quite well.
