Tokyo Babylon, Vol. 5 Reviews

Sigh, I can feel the betrayal approaching.
I can't imagine how exhausting it must be to be on Subaru's place, with all those responsibilities and dealing with that job, all while being an empath.
I love how we get evil Seichiro every time he takes his glasses off lol but I can tell he's dangerous, so I'm mostly just worried. What a cliffhanger. -
Got so much better, but idk I want more info about everything.
-
This some Hannibal/Will levels of ship going on here
-
A solid collection of macabre and melancholy tales and a not-quite cliffhanger ending.
-
I feel like I say it on every volume but this one, this one was incredible.
I bawled my eyes out for the 1st story, got surprised by surprised by the 2nd and finally, broke by the 3rd (for Subaru) because his sister called it.
Subaru would be broken by love, and if we had any doubts before, we know now for sure. Someone protect this fluffy ball of a humain being Subaru is -
My favorite so far. The grandpa story was really sad, the karaoke one surprised me, and the ending is full of promise.
-

Hahahaha.... Hasyeum. Aku pun kalau lagi galau karena cinta ya rasanya semua lagu cinta yang kudengar nyambung aja gitu sama perasaanku. Sungguh drama 😭
Tadinya aku bertanya-tanya, mana bagian supernaturalnya?

More relevant themes!
Don't abuse and neglect the elderly.
Your feelings are valid regardless of whether others 'have it worse'. You are suffering and that is real; don't let anyone invalidate you for how you feel.
Being an organ donor is really important, but it can be hard for relatives to process the idea of their dead loved one's flesh living on in another person. Waiting for a transplant is also hard.
Subaru's empathy has no limits. Whether someone is living or dead, he cares deeply for them and wants to do anything possible to ease their hurt. -squints at Seishiro- hmmm... Seishiro, on the other hand... he SAYS he's not sure what it's like to be kind, but sometimes his actions SEEM kind... -

"Kindness and a pure heart. Two things that couldn't be more alien to me."
yes, Seishiro is one of the most disturbing CLAMP characters (this quote doesn't do his sociopathy justice) and the more I read, the more I cringed. -
The story of the old man is heartbreaking, and it really helps to develop Subaru from this wallflower into more of a badass. I also love how they reveal Subaru's deep love of Seishirou, it's been subtle but also very compelling.

Urgh you can feel the angst coming a mile off at the end of this book. Pure emotional self-flagellation.
*immediately opens the next one* -
E o final desse volume me deixou impactada. -
x.o

Three stories are told in which Sumeragi Subaru plays a major part. In one, the young onmyoji meets an old man who loves animals as much as Subaru himself does, a man who no longer has a place in his daughter’s overcrowded Tokyo apartment. In the second, Seishiro takes Subaru and Hokuto out to a kareoke bar, where Subaru meets a lonely woman who’s been haunting that bar for far too long. Last, Subaru’s trip to the hospital introduces him to a little boy whose health problems and desperate mother are about to change Seishiro and Subaru’s life along with their relationship forever.
The first story was only too painfully realistic, focusing mostly on the old man. Subaru speaks to him like he hasn’t spoken to anyone, except maybe Hokuto and Seishiro, showing a happiness and an enthusiasm for being around animals he’s never displayed before. He also talks about a childhood dog he was attached to. Hokuto and Seishiro are more supporting characters in that tale. The second gives Subaru’s twin and his suitor a much more prominent role, allowing the two of them to tease Subaru in the playful manner which has contributed to the lighter side of this manga. The strange woman Subaru helps has more of a cameo role, but she complains about how reality too often mimics art and song, which is interesting considered the stark reality of the other two tales. The third story returns to the hardship of life in the form of a sick child, who’s still trying to smile and make friends with Subaru. At the same time, one can sense the overall manga arc coming to a crisis in Hokuto’s dire predictions about Subaru, the fatal flaw in his character, which comes to a heartbreaking climax in the final panel. One can see an echo of this flaw in Hokuto, whom for all her cheer and boisterous personality shows how deeply attached to her twin. Amidst all this, Seishiro remains the most enigmatic, in spite of the physical danger he is put in. He continues to drop hints about the menacing truth behind his pleasant mask, yet he continues to be a sympathetic friend to Hokuto while wooing her brother with all due devotion, willing to risk life and limb for the boy he’s courting. Just what is going on in his head? For this mystery, and all of the other qualities, depicted in an exquisite art style which showcases Subaru and Hokuto’s beauty, their striking costumes, Seishiro’s seductive menace, as well as establishing each setting as a distinctive sphere for each major character’s life, I give this five stars. -
This volume considers many aspects of pain, and does so very well. The stories included all differ nicely, but there is also more to see of the depth of our main characters: their kindness; his shyness; each is admirable in their own way.

I can't even write something coherent now because I have homework to finish but review pending. Mini one.
Guys Seishirou mentions organs being transplanted as LIVING ON INSIDE ANOTHER PERSON.
It's almost too much. -
